Love everything about this place. Wife and I stopped in without reservations on a Saturday night and were seated immediately. Calamari was good, but the best was yet to come. The NY strip steak was one of the best I've ever had. The grilled broccoli as a side was also excellent. Wife had gnocchi, which was absolutely delicious. I finished the night with a smoked Manhattan that was great. We'll be back! Update: Went for brunch on a Sunday. Best brunch in town! Dogtown omelette, French toast, salmon & grits.... All AMAZING! read more

We had dinner here last weekend and was not overly impressed. I had been told they are known for their amazing lobster roll. It was ok.... there was a lot of mayo and chopper up cucumber in it. The side of parmesan fries that the server suggested was cold and nothing special. We had 2 appetizers the cashews and pork belly which would have been better with some crunch and the stuffed dates. The dates were pretty good. The best part of dinner was my husband's steak. That has amazing flavor though I will add the brussel sprouts that he was looking forward to were not anything special. Not sure we need to go back. read more

I've never heard of this place but was wanting to try something new, so on the strength of Yelp reviews we had a really lovely dinner there recently. We made reservations for 6 pm and when we arrived we saw only one other table occupied. Our waitress was friendly and professional. We were very hungry, decided what we wanted from the menu quickly, and ordered drinks and dinner at the same time. Our drinks, a Moscow Mule and a Ginger Derby, were tasty and STRONG! We got the burrata (with pork belly croutons! Amazing!) as an appetizer and for entrees, we ordered the Mushroom & Cheese Tagliatelle and the Steak au Poivre. The burrata was a generous portion and it was very good. My large steak, perfectly medium rare, had a delicious peppercorn sauce and came with broccolini and a yummy fried polenta wedge. The tagliatelle looked housemade (although we didn't ask) and its sauce was rich. We felt we deserved dessert and ordered the lava cake with a bourbon caramel sauce--so good!!! We were very pleased that we found a nice neighborhood restaurant with high quality food and great service! read more

Stopped in for dinner. Started with the pork and cashews which was the best part of the dinner. Had the smoked old fashioned-it was an old fashioned with a turtle-nothing too exciting. For dinner we had a burger and lobster roll both were good-again nothing out of this world. I asked for my burger without a bun but it still came with one-which is whatever but wasteful. We had a stack of dirty plates sit on our table for over 10 minutes-which is annoying. The dining room is kinda weird-almost like u finished but finished? Overheard that they charge $45 wine corkage fee-umm what?! That's insane. I would say it's more of a lunch spot than dinner. read more

I went here earlier this week with a friend per her recommendation (she had come for drinks) and holy smokes--one of the best dinners I've ever had. Service was consistent without being hovery, but the food was the star. We shared fried burrata as the starter and it exceeded expectations. It had a great tomato sauce and perfectly toasted and buttered bread. It felt like the fancy version of mozzarella sticks (sorry mozz sticks, still love you). Now for the main attraction...the steak frites. Oh em gee. The fries were hot and crispy and dusted with parm and were amazing dipped in the provided garlic aioli. The Brussels sprouts were simple and a perfect, fresh contrast to the heaviness of everything else, and the steak was PERFECT. A perfect medium cook, a nice crunch on the outside, and incredibly juicy and flavorful on the inside. There was a subtle marinade...maybe something balsamic-y? But I didn't think about it too much because I was in the zone. Not even sure what my friend and I talked about, tbh. The best meal I've had (maybe ever?) for $26? I'll be back soon, and you should too. read more

Awesome bar/restaurant I found in St. Louis while visiting for work. I stumbled upon Stone Turtle while planning a client lunch. The prerequisites were: 1. Convenient for the client 2. Great reviews 3. Ability to make a reservation Stone Turtle hit all three. While I didn't need a reservation for lunch, you never know. We both ordered salads. I had the Harvest Chopped with Salmon and I believe my client had the House Caesar with Chicken. She commented on how good hers was and mine was amazing! The Salmon was cooked to perfection and a generous portion. Two regrets. They had a special with Morel mushrooms that I passed on. The owner had gone to Iowa to get the mushrooms. Should have ordered that. Second regret is that I rarely get to St. Louis to enjoy this fantastic establishment. read more

The food was delicious and service was very good. I'd recommend making a reservation just in case as it is relatively small and popular place. We will definitely return! read more

This place, named after the large stone turtle statues at the Turtle Park along Oakland Ave, is one of my go-to spots for cocktails in St. Louis. Their menu is extensive, but I have not had a bad drink yet from this place. The bartenders (shoutout to Miley) are friendly, fun, and most importantly good at their jobs. The owner, Nick, is a great guy who grew up in St. Louis, left to go to school in So Cal, and then returned to the Lou to follow his roots and open up his own cocktail bar. The man definitely knows his whiskey, but fortunately he's not pretentious about it. The food is also on point so kudos to the chef. I highly recommend the salmon, burger, pork chop, and mac n' cheese. The reason why I've only mentioned those 4 items is because I have not tried other items on the menu; it's so hard to venture away from what I like, but I'm sure the other items are spot on as well. I also hear good things about their brunch but have not been there for it yet. The decor is also intimate and great for date nights. If you're a regular, you may even get to control the music that's played. If you're a regular who is a good musician, you may even convince Nick to allow you to play a live set at their place. Just sayin'. read more

Went there for brunch for my friend's birthday on Sunday a few weeks ago at 1:00. Got the chicken and waffles. One of my chicken pieces was so tough I could barely even cut it with a knife. I asked for a different piece. The server brought me a new one and never returned to ser if that was alright (which it wasn't, almost as bad as the 1st piece). Since the brunch ends at 2:00, maybe they cook a bunch of chicken ahead of time, and they were at the bottom of what was left? My advice is if you want good, fresh chicken and waffles either get there early or go somewhere else. read more

I'm sorry but we've been to Stone Turtle 2x and just don't get it. We recently visited for Brunch and my omelet was overcooked and bland (fries were excellent). My wife ordered chicken and waffles and it was smothered in hot sauce when she asked for it on the side. Literally 1/2 the waffle was soggy / soaked through from all the hot sauce. Friend had a fruit waffle which she said was excellent and it looked like it. Reservations are required for brunch as they were packed. read more

I was able to make it to stone turtle twice on a recent trip to STL. The brunch was so good that I came back for lunch the next day before leaving. I tried quite a few items and was not disappointed with anything. At brunch, I ordered the salmon with grits cake, which also came with two eggs and lightly dressed greens. It was perfect. The salmon was cooked about medium, the grits cake had a slightly crispy exterior with a softer interior. I tried some of the steak from the steak and eggs, which was perfect. My friends tried the chicken and waffles and the daily special, which was a spicy breakfast burrito with steak. They were both very happy with their choices. The Manhattan was excellent. At lunch the next day, the calamari was amazing. The burger and Italian grinda were also incredible. I'll be back for sure read more

Because of the snow this evening, we arrived for our reservation 15 minutes late. Our table of 6 ordered drinks, appetizers, and entrees. We were at our table for 2.5 hours and then before we could finish our last round, we were told we needed to give up our table and finish in the bar. I have NEVER been asked/told to leave a table before we finished. Especially since we spent over $300!!! When we spoke to the owner (see pic) about having to move before finishing, he mentioned that he didn't have to "forcibly remove" us to move, like we should have been thankful for that. We were never told that there was a limit to how long we could seat and eat. Never coming back again! read more

Really good bar setup and atmosphere. The restaurant part needs work on the lighting. Menu needs to be updated. Service is always good.

Our waitress was great and the host was very friendly. However, the food had no real flavor and there were no salt shakers, which was needed DESPERATELY! The waitress recommended the short rib, but the polenta was over peppered, the carrots had no flavor, and the entire dish needed seasoning (salt, garlic...something)! We ordered the fried mushrooms, the jalapeno ranch was delicious... but the mushrooms were bland with really thick, unseasoned breading. Me and my first were super disappointed, especially with a bill of almost $100 for 2 people! read more

Had brunch here and it was amazing. Lavender Spritz, french toast, burrata salad. The atmosphere is lovely and the food is delicious

We've been wanting to check this place out for a while now as it seemed to have everything I enjoy in a restaurant. (We should really get out to the Dogtown area more.) Finally, we ended up venturing out around 6 on a weekday night, so the dining area was all but empty. I'm never sure if this is a desirable trait or not, but honestly sometimes I find it eerie dining in public with just us. Maybe I should start going to dinner at a reasonable hour. The space is small, but very open, and is cut in half by a brick wall that shields off the bar area. I like all the wood. At first the room was a little too bright for dinner, but soon enough thankfully they dimmed the lights. The music was just off. I don't think Top 40 is really a fit with the atmosphere and would have preferred to listen to something more relaxing. I would come back at a busier time, or maybe sit in the bar area next time. We ordered a round of apps, we often like to share and try a sample of the place's offerings. I have to say, the parmesan fries with truffle aioli were a real stand out. Very flavorful. The brussel sprouts salad provided a nice palette cleanser, very crisp and acidic even though the pork lardons were a little hard. We also ordered the cheese curds, which were basically mini mozzarella sticks but still tasty. The mac n' cheese could have had a little more corn flake toppings as far as I am concerned to make it crispier. But there was a generous amount of bacon and in terms of texture, it was not half bad. 40$ for 2 drinks and 4 apps seems fair to me. We were more than full before finishing and these were very generous portions. Really enjoyed our waitress, she was very attentive and had a lot of personality. Sometimes that can make all the difference. We will be back. read more

My new favorite brunch spot. I have enjoyed several dinners or lunches at Stone Turtle since it opened but only got around to visiting for brunch two weeks ago. What an experience-I can't wait to return. Fortunately, the menu only features 8 or so items, but each is so appealing it is hard to pick. I ordered an egg sandwich with fruit which was so delicious. The avocado toast and salmon, looked pretty healthy and was eaten with rave reviews-as were the omelets. We had reservations for a table of 4 -which was ready and waiting when we arrived. The place was quite busy yet, orderly and the service was excellent. Nick, the owner, is very personable and looking to ensure everyone is feeling at home and happy. I highly recommend Stone Turtle. read more

So just had brunch. First off, food is excellent. No complaints on quality. The issue was service. I understand that times are tough and lack of staff during pandemic creates problems. However, having an owner of restaurant purposely screw with you to make you wait over 20 minutes for your check when you have asked repeatedly is unacceptable. Then he has minor meltdown offering me to buy his restaurant as he is obviously overwhelmed. Not good. He conveniently forgot remove OJ from order that I never received. Told me just take it off the tip. It appeared this guy wanted to get me pissed off as he was having a bad day. If you truly we're the owner rethink your decision to own a restaurant as its obviously making you miserable. Also, don't drink alcohol while your working. read more

***RACIST MANAGER/BARTENDER*** I did not feel welcomed. The first time I went to this restaurant it interested me because it was close near my new home and I love trying new local eatery. I love to spend money where there's delicious food! The bartender (whom I had no idea was the owner was very unwelcoming with a disturbing aura ). The food was tasty and the waitress Sharda was nice so I went back the next day after work. I was on FaceTime with my aunt whom I could barely hear because I was sitting next to a speaker with loud music in the corner also there was a group near the bar having their own conversation. The bartender who turned out to be the manager came to the table where I was alone (thinking she is going to ask how the food was tasting) stated ''can you turn your phone down it's making my head hurt and I can hear I the phone by the bar'' I was not loud, I was not laughing out loud I'm classy and well mannered I could barely hear my own conversation yet she heard a conversation by the bar, very ironic. She had been walking past me staring at me making me feel uncomfortable after she turned on the AC. The owner's approach was disturbing and malicious I felt targeted instantly and I lost my appetite. I informed her politely before I left and tipped the the waiter, how un-welcoming she had been from the first encounter yesterday, she began she to state how she has mixed children whom are black as if that has anything to do with her encounter with me. The owners energy is very selective, unfortunately I will never eat here again. God will take care of her hateful, envious, petty actions there's no need for me to. Every review I have every left in my life from traveling city to country has always been excellent, in my own city I have experienced this at first hand. People pick and choose what African American's to be nice to if you're seen as superior or holding yourself to a caliber they will make it a mission to seek otherwise. Staying woke as usual and keeping it cute per usual. Never will I eat here again read more

The atmosphere, service, and drinks were great. I wish I could say the same for the overpriced and under seasoned food. The fondue board is a joke at $23. The fondue was decent, the apple slices were turning brown, the asparagus was just out of the veg pile, blanched for service, no seasoning whatsoever. Some bread cubes and a few pieces of overcooked sausage. The polynesian ribs were barely edible, very dry snd overcooked. The pear and arugula salad under the ribs was better than the ribs. The brussels sprouts were just burnt on the outside, under cooked on the inside, no seasoning just burnt brussels and bacon. The fish and chips were also just some plain fried fish and fries with no seasoning. This place has great potential. They just really need to fire whomever was burning their food last night. I've been a cook for many years. The ribs should have gone into the trash. I would have never served them and whomever did serve them should be ashamed of themself. I didn't send my food back because the bartender was our server, she was very nice and very busy. It wasn't her fault that her kitchen staff sucked. Sadly disappointed in this place. The food gets zero stars. The restaurant is dark so I'm guessing that is why they think that they can send out burnt food. Go for drinks but skip the food. read more

Make reservations if you can, because even if relatively new, this place gets full! Luckily we were kinda early so we were able to get dinner. Their Mac n' Cheese is super good, and so is the brussels sprouts salad. Will definitely go back to try more of the menu! Just discovered this restaurant. Great food. Great service. Interesting Menu. Will definitely be back.

Cute space inside. Liked the turtle in the ice cube. Food was good. Service was good.

This cute brunch spot is the perfect place to fill your belly on a Sunday morning. When you ask for a coffee, you get your own little mini French Press and nothing warms my heart more that a good cup of coffee. Not to mention THE FOOD! Me and a few other guests I was with ordered the breakfast burrito and it was absolutely delicious. My sister, who is a vegetarian, order the Veggies in Bread and she was obsessed with it. Fluffy bread with fresh veggies, you can't go wrong. And Tank... Tank was a great host and made us feel very welcome. He gave us some really great laughs and if you were us recovering from a bachelorette party, he might throw in a complimentary drink to ease the morning LOL We had such a lovely experience and we will be sure to come back when we find ourselves in St. Louis again. A late in the week decision to try Stone Turtle paid off. We we seated at a nice table and greeted right away. We placed drink orders and looked over the menu. The restaurant is not huge and was filling up quickly. There were a few larger parties this evening. We could see managers stepping and fetching. We placed our order for a shared house salad. It was not split and served but we are a couple, we can eat off the same plate. The portabella croutons were delicious, well dressed with a good amount of toppings. My husband ordered the mushroom gnocchi and I ordered the half chicken. Timing was good with a nice space between salad and entrees. My chicken had a homemade bbq sauce that was good. The temperature was nice and hot as it arrived to the table. The gnocchi needed salt. It was well done but not exceptional. The highlight of the meal was our very clever dessert, Serendipity(a local creamery) dipstix. A homemade nutty buddy. It was awesome! We will be back with friends or family. read more
