Completely disappointing. I had big roast beef and chicken fingers. I had no idea how they cook the roast beef. The beef I had was not just cold, it was frozen inside! They may just grab the beef from the fridge, toss on a grill, pat a few times and call it "roast beef". The beef itself is raw,not medium, not medium-rare. It's simply raw and uncooked. It's just horrible. The chicken fingers were over fried. They were extremely dry and even hard to chew on. I still can't image I spent around $25 on these junks. read more

I stopped at Steve's Famous Roast Beef for a quick lunch. The place is pretty cozy and clean, order at the counter with self serve seating for eating in. This place serves up roast beef sandwiches including the Super (on an onion roll), Big (on a sesame seed roll) and Jr (on a hamburger bun), plus other hot & cold sandwiches, focaccia, roll-ups, salads, pasta dinners, steak tips, chicken kabobs, sides, and Pepsi drinks. I decided to get a Big Roast Beef with horseradish & lettuce ($4.85 plus tax), I believe they charge extra for sandwich toppings, which has been the standard at several roast beef places in the region. The big sandwich served on a big toasted sesame seed roll had plenty of meat! The roast beef was shaved (similar to the meat used in steak subs) and not bloody, cooked medium well. However, the sandwich did not have much shredded lettuce and horseradish sauce as I'd like on my sandwich. Other than that, the sandwich was good. read more

I used to order from here periodically and never had a problem. I have given this establishment very positive ratings in the past and have recommended it to many people. I will no longer do that moving forward. I received an incorrect item for my order and was missing another item. The worker and manager were both extremely rude and disrespectful. I was originally told I couldn't be helped because "we are too busy" and then they proceeded to just place the phone down on the counter and ignore me. I hung up and called back to be told the same as before. The manager then got on the phone and continued to talk over me. Terrible customer service. I will not order from them again. read more

Tried them last night upon a friends suggestion. First the delivery driver couldn't find the place and asked if he used his gps, told me no. He legit pulled the pizza off the floor of his car where his ac had been blowing on it, resulting in me getting a very cold pizza. Ordered a pizza roll for myself (the pizza was for my son) and got a spinach roll instead. The roast beef was dry. Called the place and barely got a refund for the pizza roll. Food is still top notch but; this place has really turned into a dump. A good cleaning and a fresh coat of paint would go a long way. Spider webs hanging from the ceiling and dead bugs on the window sills do not make for a pleasant dining in experience. Counter help was less than friendly and barely communicated. But like I said, the food is top notch. Roast Beef and Braided Sub Rolls are unmatched. 5 Stars for food, ZERO for cleanliness and atmosphere. I've eaten here a handful of times, and the food has mostly been mediocre. I've had an upset tummy afterwards more than once, but my most recent delivery order was the last straw. I made a pretty simple order- roast beef, mozzarella sticks, bottle of ginger ale- and was told I'd be waiting 45 or so minutes. No biggie, but I was at work and needed to leave for another client in about 90min. An hour went by, no food. I called and was told the driver should be to me any minute. Another fifteen minutes, no driver. The very rude person on the phone told me the driver had dropped off my food; I'd even been paged, but when nobody showed up, he just left my order at the front desk. Now, the entrance of my work is very specific and I asked specific questions about where the food was dropped off, and the driver had absolutely not come to where I work. He just left the food! I was then told I'd be waiting another 20-30min for a new order. I was in a huge rush now and wound up fighting to get the charge removed from my card, and I had to go get the food rather than having it delivered. Oh, and after fighting to get the charge removed, they still charged my card and I have had to get my bank to refuse the charge. I have ordered regularly for years..I placed a online order..missing the order of mozzarella sticks..when I called to request what I paid for I could hear the woman who answered the phone say " she put them in the bag" repeatedly..I simply said I order from you regularly and have no reason to lie about not getting them. Updating this review. It's still not a bad place, and it has outlasted the Subway right next door. The roast beef is still delicious, but it kills my stomach. However, I think that's my own issue rather than their food. Perhaps a mix of BBQ sauce and mayo is not a good combo for me, but it really does taste great. The rest of the food is hit or miss. Some good, some ok. This is a place that is definitely worth checking out and trying for yourself because you may fall in love with the roast beef, and your stomach will probably handle it better than mine can. read more

The only place in Haverhill that I buy a sandwich from is Steve's. The roast beef sandwiches are always delicious and fresh. I always get the Super with sauce and onion, and by the time I am finished eating it, I wish I had another one. It comes on a big onion roll and loaded with shredded beef and thinly sliced onions and a nice piece of american cheese. Its delicious. I also often get the braided subs as they are good as well. I like the cheeseburger (which is packed full of 3 whole patties...I get it with bacon, grilled onion and lettuce...so good), the chicken bomb and the steak and cheeses. They are all good, and I have never had a bad experience with them. For sides, I like the onion rings as they are thinly sliced and not a ton of breading on them. Similar to an onion ring from Kelly's...not beer battered or extra breaded at all. The service is always fast and usually things are ready in 10 minutes or less. read more

Sadly I write this, I have frequented Steve's for years. Autre food have stopped in the F to eat. I recommend them for their roast beef and pastrami sandwiches to a lot of people. Pastrami has been one of my favorites over the years at Steve's used to be but no more it came on a great onion roll fresh and nice it was full of pastrami,But now it's on a skimpy unflavored roll with a few sesame seeds on it and it taste like cardboard horrible! the french fries are Are soggy and limp ! even though we pick it up right away, onion rings are dreadful it's change so much I will no longer go there to eat I'm right down the street I've enjoyed it for so many years but again one of those classic cases where they raise the prices but the quality of food goes down read more

I went to Steve's roast beef for lunch today and was far from impressed. I ordered a Greek salad and my co-worker ordered a garden salad. Simple enough right? Nope! Both of our salads had brown lettuce in it. We both picked about half of the lettuce out of each salad. The picture I have is of the brown lettuce in just one of the salads. I ordered a super beef dinner they said 30 minutes for delivery I said ok no problem. so the food finally shows up a hour an 10 minutes later. the food was so cold and had water in it also the delivery person show up in a Secuity service car. so I called back and asked to speak to the manager. I talked to the manger and he didn't really care. The manger said save the food they want it back. so I said ok . So the delivery didn't show up for 50 minutes in the security car. My family has ordered from here since it had opened. And, my kids order the SAME THING every single time. I can't get my 10 year old to order anything else beside their meatball sub. He loves it! The staff there have become an extended family to us. Always a friendly atmosphere, even when they are busy. I always get a wave from the owners out back, and the counter staff are kind and personable. Delivery is even better. They recognize our phone number and know the address. The drivers are super prompt and good people. I personally get the buffalo chicken wrap once a week, and unlike most sub shops and pizza places, the quality doesn't vary. It is always good. Heard about Steve's from a friend, so I had to stop by. I ordered the "Big Beef" sandwich with sauce on the side. The beef was served on a seeded bun that was buttered and grilled. Moved down the street 6 months ago and I'm always looking for good take out food. I've dined in once and did take out twice. Beef and cheese of course all 3 times. It's cheaper then Harrison's and to be honest I think I prefer it. The only other thing I have tried here are the chicken fingers and fries and they were very good as well. No delivery charge but they ask if you want to add a tip to your card. Prices are great People seem nice. No complaints. read more

After living in Haverhill for a little over a year i have finally decided on my favorite roast beef place in town and it is steve's. The prices are cheap, the quality is good and the portions fill me up. This place has even managed to get my gf from the south shore hooked (she didnt even know what a roast beef sandwhich was). The dinners all come with fries, onion rings and a salad. Kelly's only dreams of sandwiches like these. Its one of the best in New England. Great fries as well. Two people can share the small fry....fresh and sizzling good. Your better off going to Market Basket if you want a basic wrap or sub. My husband and I both go wraps and they completely fell apart. Not only that customer service is ridiculous, they don't listen when taking your order, and pretty much not worth paying your money here. not bad at all. we got big beef sammiches with sauce and cheese. much larger than your average large beef with plenty of medium rare beef with good flavor. the beef was not sliced too thin (Harrison's i'm lookin' at you) but the fries and rings were below average (mushy onions and an off-flavah in the fries). i saw a meatball sub at another table and it looked really good. they have a Philly Style Cheese Steak on the menu but when i asked what kind of cheese they had they did not include CheezWiz in the list (points off for that). we'll def be back. read more

If you're a beef and rings fan this is the place to go. Growing up in the Boston area Kelly's Roast Beef was considered the best. Steve's easily beats them with the quality and amount of meat your are given. Chicken kabob salad and pizza are very good as well. Usually order delivery which a pleasant experience from the order to the person that brings it to my door.
