My family wanted a local experience to a place that was highly recommended. We walked in and patiently waited to be served approximately 10 minutes to give our drink orders. When the drinks were served we ordered our food. Several other families had entered and ordered their food after we did. We waited 70 minutes before our food was delivered. The other tables that had came and ordered after we did had already received their food, eaten and left before ours was delivered. Some of the food delivered was room temperature and not even hot. It is very rare that I give less than three stars. This is a very quaint little restaurant that was highly recommended by the locals. We have always enjoyed eating at Mom & Pop places, but this one has issues with service. I can see why the locals like it, since the locals received excellent service. There was no to greet customers as they entered or a sign that said seat yourself. It is a seat yourself type place. It wasn't to long after that our order was taken but then the wait began. It appeared, if you order the fried cat fish dish or hamburger plate those come out pretty fast. We got the chicken fried steak and the grilled steak with baked potato. We waited 45 minutes for our food and watched three other tables get their food. In fact, one table that knew the waitress came in about 15 minutes after us, ordered, ate, and left before we got our food. One of their biggest issues is not acknowledging customers who are waiting a longer time than usual. Unfortunately, we won't be back and with all of the new places popping up there are plenty of other choices. read more

This place has the absolute best fried catfish I've ever eaten. It's perfect, not dry, not slimy. The pieces are HUGE. They have great pinto beans and hush puppies. The fried green beans are good. We love eating here for the food. Unfortunately, the service is lacking. They are always understaffed. They usually have two waitresses, Sometimes one. That's a problem because this place is always packed out. I mean every table full and only one or two servers. And they also have to run the cash register. It's always hard to get refills. You practically have to yell to get someone's attention for a refill. I also feel like the wait staff is partial to locals that they know. I always feel our table gets ignored, while the other tables are getting service. Our table gets waited on twice. Once to take our order, and once to bring our food. And this has been every time out of maybe 6 eating there over a couple of years. We continue to go though because the fish just can't be beat. And if you want a big plate, this is the place. Classic Diner. I love breakfast so I ordered quite a spread. The only thing that seemed to be made in house were the pancakes and the biscuits. The biscuit and gravy were cold, the sausage and bacon were ok, and the eggs "over easy" were cold and covered in oil or butter. The pancakes are the reason I even gave 3 stars and that's because my wife's were cooked perfectly. Mine seemed undercooked and still a little gooey in the middle. I would recommend the pancakes for sure, but you better bring an appetite they are pretty big! We both ordered the short stacks (2) and it was plenty of pancake. read more

Disappointing. This was the only place that we could see that served a sit down breakfast. The sausage in the omelette was dry as cardboard. The biscuit and gravy had almost no flavor. The only thing that was great was the pancakes, if you like them big and fluffy. The server was the waitress and cashier and the only one working the floor. While I felt bad that she had no help, she still could've been nicer. When we walked in, we were not greeted in a friendly way. We were excited to visit the restaurant because it showed up as #1 on the list of restaurants in the area. We were met with stares as we walked in. After we were seated and spoke with the waitress about the menu options she informed us that we were 5 minutes too late for the breakfast menu. She told us we could go to a restaurant that was further up the street if we wanted breakfast. Ok, cool, no problem. We decided to go ahead and order lunch instead. Don't get me wrong, the waitress wasn't rude, but she definitely didn't seem enthusiastic about having to serve us. She never checked to see if we needed anything (as a typical waitress would do). Being where I'm from (Louisiana), and my waist size(38), I can talk about good food. On that note, good food doesn't exist at Steven's Gap. What I ate,or struggled to get down, the "Open Face Steak sandwich" tasted like over (very) over-priced Dairy Queen food. I hate to even denigrate Dairy Queen like that. I really hate to leave a review like this being this was the first multi-overnight trip we have taken to Broken Bow, but it is what it is. Went for breakfast at 10:00am. Got coffee and the we ordered food, the waitress never came back. a different lady brought our food, well, all but mine. I kept expecting it to come out any second, kept waiting for the waitress to show up, but then realized as everyone else had finished their breakfast that mine wasn't coming and neither was she. Finally I was able to flag another waitress down. They forgot mine, I don't know how it didn't seem odd to deliver food to 4 other people and leave with one without anything, but they did. I didn't feel like waiting for my food and hold up our 6 hour trip back home. Never got an apology, maybe its just business as usual for them. Must go here. We really liked this place! They had perfect catfish!!! Beans and hush puppies were also great. A little salt & pepper was needed for the beans, but I understand since they were made for all kinds of people. The beans had real meat in them, very flavorful. The "real" hush puppies had peppers in them & fried crispy. Yummy!!! The catfish tasted fresh and it was flakey and cooked good. The okra was crispy and yummy! Onion rings were cooked to order and made there. All I can say is that my 76 year old father loved the left overs (large portions) and he has eaten a lot of catfish in his day.
