We did not plan on having dinner here. We went to the other "hot spot" (think pizza) and the wait was over two hours. Our group pivoted to Steven's Gap and was seated quickly. The server was incredibly kind and attentive. The menu had plenty of variety for our group of adults with 5 kids. Our pickiest eater was pleased with the all day breakfast option. The side salad had very crisp, fresh leafy green lettuce. The beans and hushpuppies meal received high marks. Its a small little place but don't let the outside fool you. Stop into Steven's Gap. Me and my hubby were visiting from Texas for our honeymoon and we were looking for a great burger restaurant and we thank God we found one! Cheeseburgers were absolutely impact-fully great and their chipotle ranch with sweet potato fries were the best! Make sure to try the sauce it'll make your meal even better! Our server was nice which was great but honestly would be a lot more great to see some smiling faces in this place, it would really liven the place up and the atmosphere would feel a lot more welcoming. But would definitely recommend this place, just make sure to smile at your waitress to let her know she's doing a great job and that life is beautiful because God loves us all. read more

We stopped on our way out to go home. I walked in and the staff just looked at me asked if they could help me. I said 2 and they said to go have a seat anywhere. There was no sign that said to seat yourself or wait. One had a tad of an attitude... The food is ok at best. Pretty basic... we got an omelette and it comes with American cheese. No option for cheddar unless you want to pay more. It definitely wasn't worth $7.75. Our biscuits were burnt on the bottoms and just crumbled when we cut into them. The gravy was really good though! The waitress did get nicer... we thought that maybe she got overwhelmed with everyone coming in at once. So the rating has nothing to do with the staff, just the food. read more

We decided to hit up this establishment after seeing they had a 4-star review. I was excited to spot popcorn shrimp and hush puppies on the menu. The hush puppies weren't too bad but the popcorn shrimp and the fries were less than appetizing. I maybe ate half my popcorn shrimp and after trying one French fry I skipped out on eating those. Seems a lot of locals like this place but maybe it's not as great for us tourist folk who maybe have better food to eat where we are from. The food is your basic diner-type offerings, but the service is so lacking, I was leery to go back...but alas, since they are the only early morning place to get food, other than a few coffee houses in the area, we trekked back hoping for better attitudes on day two. You have to eat breakfast here. Home cooked goodness. Reminds me of my favorite place back home in Dallas. You wouldn't guess it was a restaurant from the road unless you looked at the sign. Staff was kind, there's wifi should you need it and they have fresh baked pies. We took a couple slices on the way out for the car ride. The pancakes were a good size, the omelette was perfect and those biscuits and gravy had me licking my lips. We had a good time. If you are staying locally or passing by, YOU MUST GO HERE. Not too many places open on Sunday. This is great for smaller groups or couples. They can accommodate larger parties from what I saw, but it's not a huge place. Check 'em out! read more

This is one of those local places that I really wanted to dig and give a great rating. Regrettably, I can't do it. When the best things I could come up with about Stephens Gap Restaurant are it was clean and beat cooking while you're on vacation (barely), you know there is a real issue. We stopped in one morning for breakfast before heading out of the park and down to Broken Bow to pick up a few things. They have a pretty limited menu of the breakfast basics - eggs, sausage, bacon, home fries, and pancakes. I chose the ultra-exotic item on their menu, the breakfast sandwich. It was a hamburger bun with scrambled egg, american cheese, and a sausage patty (I could have had bacon or ham). It tasted about as pedestrian as it sounds. I had a taste of my son's pancake, too. Similar to my meal, it was unremarkable. The service provided no redemption. The waitress took our order and delivered our meal. Outside of that, she was incognito at our table. Perhaps I should go back and try something off their lunch menu, but I'm in no hurry. read more

Terrible experience! Soda machine was out, and two out of three of us always order Diet Coke with breakfast. Our breakfast took over an hour to be delivered to our table. When it was, it wasn't good. Our table had ordered biscuits and gravy. No biscuits. Brought us dry toast! Cold! My sausage and cheese omelet had been sitting somewhere for awhile before delivery to our table. When the waitress put the food on our table, she said, "Sorry. We have no biscuits. But if they get made while y'all are still here, I'll bring you some." Two out of three of us didn't even get the gravy! I would have given less stars, but the older lady bussing tables really tried hard to clean off tables for the waiting crowd. The fried shrimp and beans were okay, the hush puppies were very overdone. The tarter sauce was basic, mostly mayo, and we didn't care for the cocktail sauce. We rated it a four because the fish was so good and we feel we might have caught the hush puppies on an off day for the cook. We wanted to like this spot based on the online reviews and feedback received from other customers. However, our experience left much to be desired. The catfish was undercooked and gave my spouse food poisoning. My chicken, supposed to be grilled, was originally served as fried tenders. The sides, green beans and pinto beans, were like eating pure salt. Bathroom was not clean and looked like it hadn't been touched since the weekend. Pies-esp chocolate- looked old and were weeping from the meringue, so we skipped them. It's hard to figure out where to eat in a resort town during off season dates. We took a chance and at an early lunch here. Awesome, quaint interior with friendly, quick service. The food was amazing. Everyone in our group loved what they ordered. Salads were amazing! Chicken (grilled and fried strips) were cooked to perfection. My chicken fried steak had a wonderful crust with awesome seasonings. My sweet potato fries were some of the best I've ever had. I can't wait to go back and try more from their menu!
