My friend and I were nearby and wanted some desserts, so I just did a quick yelp search for "desserts," and this popped up. This place is kind of tucked away, not somewhere you'll pass by often, unless you're going to the park then it's right by the entrance. Anyways, we decided to come here. You order from the window and there's seating outside. There are 3 variations of single pies, called swingles, to choose from: the classic dipped in dark chocolate, the raspberry with raspberry and dipped in dark chocolate, and the raspberry blonde which has raspberry and dipped in white chocolate. We were greeted by a friendly staff at the window. Ordering was very quick and easy, since the pies are already individually packed in plastic. I got the raspberry and my friend got the classic. We both enjoyed our key lime pies very much, a perfect balance of sweet and tart. My friend likes the classic better since she finds that it's a bit on the sweet side with the raspberry. Steve's has been a staple year for about 23 years and I can remember coming here about 10 years first time. Their products are just as good as I remember the first time I came ! Great quality ingredients from fresh lemons to Belgium chocolate all combined into awesome end products. I have a friend who take a ride from New City which is an hour ride on a good traffic day to pick up pies for Christmas. They have pies and tarts and if you check out my photos you will see just how many people line up for their famous "Swingle" which is a dipped frozen treats. They are dipped in Belgium chocolate and come in the original key lime pie flavor, the raspberry swingle and the raspberry blondie swingle. The pies come in 8 and 10 inch sizes and you can purchase the mini tarts which are a "mini me" of the pies. It is a treat for many and they ship all over. If you are shipping out of New York City you may have a 3 to 12 day wait time. There was a restaurant a few blocks away called "The Good Fork" who They are served in other restaurants, and they have wholesale and retail outlets. They have outdoor seating and you can take a one minute walk and enjoy the Bay Ridge Flats along with a great view of the Statue Of Liberty and the Lower Manhattan sky line. The only fault I had was there was only 1 person behind the counter. I think they can afford to have one more person on so customers are not rushed. I had heard of this place multiple times but I really got interested in visiting when at a separate restaurant, a friend got super excited seeing their key lime pie on the menu. So I knew it had to be worth a visit. It is in Red Hook near the pier and 10 minutes away from the ferry stop by walking. It does have a great view of the Statue of Liberty behind the establishment. I can see how service and opening hours are weather dependent as the wind from the harbor impacted the only seats they had (which was outdoors). I couldn't imagine braving the rain for a little treat if you are not in the area. When the wind picked up a little, there was nothing protecting you from those elements so you just had to go with the flow I got the classic swingle which is a key lime pie encased in Belgian chocolate on a stick. It is a cold treat which is perfect for a sunny summer day. And let me tell you, as someone who was on a lemon and lime desserts kick, the key lime was perfection. You can tell that they don't use general limes and just say it is "key lime." It has such a distinct aroma and sweetness alongside the bitter citrus notes. It paired well with the chocolate and was an interesting combination. I enjoyed the service from the place. They were efficient and sweet. Plus, They warned me to get napkins and they were right. The heat helped to melt the treat. It wasn't too sticky of a mess by the time I was done but I was quick. Overall, I think visiting here is a great to do if you happen to be in Red Hook. For the warmer months, eating a quick treat would be great but just picking up a pie for home would great as well. read more

They had many pie choices ( Swingle as they call it ) like the classic key lime , raspberry white chocolate and raspberry chocolate and a Chipotle Belgian chocolate . They had to restock right before us which took about 10mins so we were in line for A WHILE. Food: I got the raspberry swingle because it looked so good. I loved the tart and the hint of raspberry and key lime I felt. I'm not sure if I was a huge fan of dark chocolate around it. It was kind of overpowering and I personally felt like there was just too much going on in terms of the flavor and texture. Even those who profess not to like key lime pie will like Steve's. It's hard to turn down these adorable little pie tins, with the perfect ratio of tart and sweet and a buttery graham cracker crust that can't be beat. Don't even get me started on the swingle, which is one of their little key lime pies dipped in Belgian dark chocolate and frozen. They even have a version with raspberry, and another with chipotle pepper for a little kick. Personally I'm a purist, and don't need my pie dressed up in chocolate. Either way, a bite of their pie is pure bliss. Steve's key lime pies are also served at other venues, but it's worth visiting the original Red Hook storefront for the full experience. You order from a little takeout window right on the Red Hook waterfront and in warmer seasons you can take a seat at one of the picnic benches they have out front, each painted in bright pastels. Everyone seems to be in a great mood at Steve's, including the staff. I quite enjoy baking myself and have taken a liking to Alison Roman's key lime pie recipe, which is fantastic. Mmmm. It was on a rainy day we drove over to Red Hook to get this for prior Mother's Day celebration. As I approach the storefront, I notice this nice view of the Statue of Liberty. I can imagine going on a nice summer day. It is nearby a park and a view of the water. Came here on a Sunday, and we ended up parking in the lot right in front (it's not really a legit parking lot though, it's a quick in and out I'd say, otherwise you run the risk of getting towed) We ordered the raspberry swingle, the classic, and a mini cheesecake.. it was really nice because you can take your cheesecake and walk right to the water, where you can see the Statue of Liberty and all!
