From…read morethe two young men at the valet stand to the welcoming hostess at the check-in desk, our evening got off to a wonderful start. Trevor and Mana along with a few other young men on the team, were amid the action. We were a table of two, yet we watched them seamlessly serve other tables including parties of 6, 9, and 10. It was amazing to see them move like a well-oiled machine while delivering such excellent service to everyone. Their teamwork, attentiveness, and professionalism truly stood out. And then there was the food! From the delicious cheese bread and French onion soup to the salad, Beef Wellington, and Delmonico steak, every course was a treat. Dessert was the perfect finale: chocolate flambe, along with a complimentary flourless chocolate cake. Hands down, it was a memorable dining experience from beginning to end. Thank you to the entire Hy's team for making our 36th anniversary so special. A special thank-you to Trevor for offering us a complimentary photo to commemorate our celebration. It was such a thoughtful gesture and a wonderful keepsake from our special evening. Your hospitality, outstanding service, and delicious food made this anniversary one to remember. This place hit neither. Dress code enforced posted on their website and they remind you when they call about your reservation. That's fine bc we like to dress up for dinner while on vacation anyways. We each ordered filet mignon and you would have to pay me to eat that again. It was AWFUL. I mean look at the pictures does that even look like a filet mignon to you ?! It was thick and the texture was terrible. It tasted like a steak from Dennys. The baked potato was amazing and our (not) server, helper packed it with butter balls and sour cream which was really appreciated. Our server sat us and took our order and then the cool helper dude is the one who checked on us, brought our food, etc. he was way better than the server. I don't really understand the dynamic between the two. Anyways we left this place severely disappointed after spending hundreds of dollars. We sought out to redeem ourselves the next night on Oahu and found Aloha steakhouse on yelp. It was a million x better and one of the best steaks I've ever had. Do yourselves a favor, skip Hys and just go to Aloha. You might think at Hys you're "paying for the experience" but it will only be a disappointing experience at best.

The portions and value were seriously so good. The baked potato was SOOO GOOD and ended up being one of my favorite things we ordered. The French onion soup was also delicious and super comforting. The only things that were just okay for us were the other potato, gratin which was a little bland, and the mac and cheese, which was a bit too salty for my taste. BUT everything else was so good!! I also got the lychee yuzu vodka and it was really sweet couldn't even taste the alcohol! They put more than I thought they did . For me, the must haves are their potato salad that comes with this curry seasoning (although go easy on how much seasoning you get with each bite as it's salty) and the oxtail ramen. The oxtail ramen is honestly one of the best ramens I've had - so flavorful yet not heavy at all. This time, we didn't get any of the chargrilled dishes but in the past we have and they've all been fantastic. The shima hokke kamameshi was really good and filling - we had enough to take with us for leftovers. It's a smaller restaurant so highly recommend making a reservation. There's been time where there's been open tables but they have a sign saying they cannot take guests without reservations. I wouldn't say it's necessarily a place I'll keep coming back to regularly, but I did enjoy trying it. Here's what we ordered: 1. White Peach Chu-Hi: This was really good and refreshing! I enjoyed it and would definitely order it again. 2. House Potato Salad: Honestly, this one was a little strange to me. It tasted almost like potato salad mixed with taco seasoning. Not quite what I was expecting, and I don't think I'd order it again. 3. Grilled Mochi: This was good, but nothing particularly special or memorable to me. 4. Grilled Roast Beef Kamameshi: Definitely my favorite dish of the night! The meat was so tender, and I always love that slightly burnt, crispy rice at the bottom. We decided to add the egg, and I'm so glad we did! It went really well with the meat and rice. Such a satisfying dish! 5. Grilled Shio Sanma: This was good too! I'm not sure I know enough about Japanese cuisine to fully appreciate or critique this dish, but I enjoyed the texture. It had a nice combination of slightly crispy and soft textures. Overall, I'm glad my friend introduced me to this little spot! While I'm not sure it'll become part of my regular restaurant rotation, I enjoyed the experience and thought the food was good.

The whole staff worked as a team, and our waiter, Chris, was outstanding -- attentive without hovering and careful to make sure everyone at the table felt celebrated. I started with a virgin piña colada lava flow, then for appetizers I had the lobster bisque, crab cakes, and fried calamari. My son and I shared a tomahawk steak. It was tender, well-seasoned, and cooked just right. The sides (mushroom risotto and complimentary mashed potatoes) perfectly complemented the entrée. Kudos to the chef for an excellent job with the seasoning on the steak and for the entire flavorful meal. Everyone in our party enjoyed their meals. The desserts were also decadent. I had the guava strawberry cheesecake; others in my party ordered the lilikoi crème brûlée and the signature chocolate chip pan cookie with nuts and gelato. All of desserts selected were rich, flavorful, and a perfect finish to an already memorable night. I would not hesitate to go back.
