    Charred broccolini
    Neal I.

The Cutlery is a very quaint, comfortable place to have a good steak dinner. We had three different meat dishes; ribeye steak, paniolo style prime rib, and prime rib. All were delicious! Very tasty, well seasoned and tender. We also had a bunch of sides; bone marrow, escargots, tako, fries, brussel sprouts, corn, and broccolini. All the dishes were all good and complemented the steaks very well. The service here is excellent; very friendly and attentive. This is also, without question, the most dog friendly place I have ever been to! They even serve your dog a steak platter, nice little pieces of meat grilled to perfection. Our dog loved it! Overall, this was a really nice dinner. It is however, a little pricey. Also, getting in touch with them is difficult if you need to make changes. Once there, they are very accommodating so I would recommend The Cutlery for a good steak dinner!

First time eating here and I would definitely come back for the food. They are know for their prime rib but I chose to try their ribeye. It does have a more char kind of flavor but I enjoyed it. It was also cooked just right! Sides were good too! Brussels sprouts were super crispy and delicious! Reservation was at 5 pm which is when they open for dinner and we were seated inside. There's also outdoor seating if that's your preference. There's also parking but it's a small parking lot. It can get cold inside so bring a jacket if you get cold easily like me. I did not use the restroom so I can't speak on that. Staff were very friendly and they were very attentive and our cups were always filled. Their dessert menu is small but what we had (banana bread pudding) was tasty! All in all, I would come back to try more of their sides and other entrees.

Upscale steakhouse prices with a surprisingly upscale diner level experience. Cozy intimate dining room. We really wanted to like The Cutlery, but the evening ended up being quite underwhelming. Service: Once we were seated, service was excellent. Our server Brandy was friendly, attentive, and did a great job taking care of us. Unfortunately, the experience started off awkwardly. The four of us arrived about five minutes before our reservation and stood in front of an empty hostess podium with no one to greet us. Several staff members walked by without acknowledging us. After going to the bar to get a glass of wine we waited for about more eight minutes before it dawned on me that maybe there wasn't a hostess on duty so I flagged down a server who surprisingly was able to check us in with his phone and seated us. Kind of weird and not the most welcoming first impression. Food: This is where things really fell short. The Hokkaido scallops were completely drowned in an olive oil-ginger sauce that overwhelmed the delicate sweetness of the scallops. Similarly,!the wagyu bone marrow suffered the same fate. The heavy-handed use of Hawaiian chili chimichurri masked the richness of the marrow instead of complementing it. The sauce itself was good but geez go easy on it. The side of bread that accompanied the dish was hard and dry. I mean like when crumbs turn to dust when you bite into it type of dry. The charred romaine Caesar salad had a strange gas/fumey smell that made it hard to enjoy. The biggest disappointment was the porterhouse for two, which should have been the star of the evening . Surprisingly, it was under-seasoned and lacked the quality and tenderness you expect from a steakhouse of this caliber. The garlic herb butter didn't bring much to the party except a greasy texture rather than actual flavor. The valet parking attendant was excellent. We really wanted to like this place but the experience fell short of the hype. Happy eating!! 27

My fiance and I decided to celebrate our anniversary at The Cutlery since we heard good things about this place. WARNING: Be prepared to wait for your food. Our server was really nice and let us know about the wait time, but wow it's no joke. The entree can literally take over an hour to an hour and a half during peak hours. They are known for their prime rib and I guess I misunderstood when I made the reservation on OpenTable, I thought one prime rib is automatically reserved and if you wanted more, needed to put in for more. Oops. The foods that we ordered were escargot, lobster pasta, ribeye. brussel sprouts and duck fat fries. Our favorite was the duck fat fries. It was sooo crispy and had really good flavor. Second best would be the escargot except they toasted the bread too long where it hurts your roof of the mouth. We really wanted to like this place, but we just thought it was okay. At least we gave it a try!

We went on an off day, it was nice place. Very clean and the staff was very friendly. I liked the fact that the menu had a backlight where can see the words on the menu. We enjoyed the food and the porter house steak hit the spot. Melt in your mouth steak. It was worth the $$.

Dined out with my industry friends celebrating a birthday of the oldest friend in our group! We had to make the reservation in advance for a party of 9 and reserved three prime ribs ahead of time for our party. We were also asked for a pre-order the day of our reservation because of our large party. The staff was friendly and very accommodating, our party was a little crazy and we were all dressed up as old ladies but the staff was super kind. Our favorite thing about cutlery has to be the food! We loved all the appetizers, but our favorite has to be the bone marrow which had a great crust and perfectly toasted bread and pickled onions! Another great one was the tako!!!! Always a great choice! It was perfect in flavor and texture. Prime rib and steak was cut pupu to share which was on request and very considerate of staff. We loved the prime rib! It was thick cut perfectly cooked and seasoned! Steak was also cooked perfectly but didn't stand out as much as the prime rib. We also loved the lamb rack! We got a round of drinks but nothing that stood out to us. We also thought the service was great and adequate for what they could offer for a large party. The ambience was also nice with outside seating and indoor seating. For dessert we were offered a scoop of ice cream for our friends birthday. The crème brûlée we shared was also a table favorite definitely would come back to try different dishes next time

We arrived for our 5:45 pm reservations. With a packed house the wait for the food was tortuously long. The beverages came out piece meal and Bud's Mac n cheese was first to arrive at the table. 80% of the food once they finally arrived were enjoyed: French fries, brussel sprouts, lamb, 3 steaks & Mac n cheese. All steaks and lamb were ordered medium but Sweetie's rib eye was charred on the outside and brown on the inside. I chose this restaurant for the marrow but the one out of 2 pieces of bone I tried didn't have enough marrow to fill the tiny spoon. It was loaded with chimichurri. The toasted bread rounds were buttery and garlicy hard like Melba toast but I liked it. Had to ask for my fingerling potatoes and it arrived when the rest of our party had finished. We flagged a server for boxes for take out, I walked up to the front to ask for a bag, and the check and I got up to deliver the payment. Although it was a Tuesday nite, 2 of us wanted the prime rib but it's only available on weekends. The parking attendant should be commended for his service, helped our 3 cars get a parking space, walked me to the entrance with his umbrella and was at the mercy of the cold night air and drizzles. They really should use two parking spaces to build a shelter for him. If not for him, I'd remove a star. If your party consists of only adults and 2-1/2 hours is okay for you to dine, if the place wasn't slammed to occupancy it may have been a better experience. Dark interior, minimal spacing between tables, its attempt to have fine dining vibes is hampered but it has potential.

Had my sister visiting and wanted to take her here. Walking up to the restaurant, we could already smell the delicious food. We were not disappointed! Everything made me do my happy food wiggle. Nalani was our server and she was so friendly and attentive! Customer service here is excellent! I will always want to return here.

Ooooh weeee, always a 10 out of 10 @ The Cutlery! A must do on the weekend just for that prime rib! We've also decided we no longer can share the Pulehu Tako, yup, NO CAN - order your own...LOL

If I could rate this place 10 stars, I absolutely would. Do yourself a favor and check this place out, if you haven't already done so. We've been here a handful of times and have recommended them to our friends and family both locally and out of town. All of the times that we've been here, we had reservations and have been at slower service times. The servers are knowledgeable about the menu and are kind enough to go through the items of you do have questions. Each time we've went, we've taken their recommendations and haven't been disappointed, yet. It may just be sides, but I love the potatoes and the Brussels sprouts. The honey in the Brussels is what knocks it out of the park. While it is a little dim inside of the restaurant, the menus light up. I don't recommend bringing a stroller. There's not a lot of space to put it. It is a kid-friendly place, but it for sure is a little of an upscale restaurant. So, to each its own.

Crazy good food! No hesitation, no debate, I'd come back immediately. Dinner at The Cutlery in Kaimukī was phenomenal across the board. We reserved the prime rib ahead of time (highly recommend) and loved that they're transparent about prep times. They tell you up front if something takes longer so you can decide in the moment. Thoughtful and appreciated. Not a single miss on the food. There were 3 of us and we decided to select our own entrees and share them with each other. We had: Charred romaine Caesar salad Washugyu bone marrow (ridiculous) 16 oz reserved Nakamura cut prime rib (worth every dollar) Short rib pasta Kurobuta pork chop Crispy Brussels sprouts Duck fat fries Fire roasted corn Shishito peppers Everything was perfect, rich without being heavy, and clearly made with intention. We all kept saying how good everything tasted and we were happy we decided to share everything we had. Cocktails were equally on point, guava margarita, yuzu shiso sidecar, and Empress lychee martini were all balanced, flavorful, and dangerous in the best way. Service was friendly and pleasant, though we weren't checked on as often as expected especially for indoor seating. That said, the food absolutely carried the night. Seating options include standard indoor tables, indoor high-tops, and outdoor seating. Accessibility & logistics heads-up:Waialae entrance has a few stairs. The 9th Ave entrance requires walking past the outdoor seating and can feel tight where the walkway bends if chairs are pulled out. There's also a small lip at the doorway into the standard dining area (I think it was a sliding door threshold). Parking was tight that night and took a few loops before landing street parking. 1,000% would return without pause. The Cutlery is doing it! Come hungry!

    NY steak ($60) excellent

Six of us ate at this neighborhood steakhouse located in Kaimuki. We started off w/ oysters and escargot. The oysters were shucked beautifully, and they tasted uber fresh fr WA. Likewise, the escargot had lots of garlic & parmesan to put on your toast. I'm glad we weren't served additional bread. For my main, I chose a NY steak. Others in the group ordered the signature prime rib (reserve in advance), ribeye and short rib pasta. No one complained, and none of us went home hungry. The steaks were finished w/ butter the way I like it. Mine was cooked perfect medium rare. Our sides consisted of duck fat fries, mushrooms and broccolini (not all pictured). The star of the sides was the fries. They came out piping hot, and went well with ketchup. Lastly, we shared two desserts. Both were very good. The mud pie rivaled Duke's, and the creme brûlée had a nice crust on top. Alex took great care of us and showed a lot of Aloha. There is a 20% tip for parties of 5 or more. Alex and his side kick earned every penny. Regarding the ambiance, its laid back. We sat outside which was fine for us. The six of us wanted plenty of room. There is a bar to your left as you walk in. To the right is a small dining area. The outside dining area has about 5 tables. Better to uber/lyft here bc parking is difficult. I'm definitely returning when I visit home. Kaimuki is home to a lot of neighborhood places. I'd rather eat where the locals do.

I finally had a chance to dine at Cutlery and it was really good! Staff is super friendly and knowledgeable. Food did take a while to come out, but it does come out PIPING HOT. Personally I recommend the kiawe smoked meat (it tastes like burnt ends!), escargot, charred Cesar salad, and the Rib Eye! As for the drink try the Yuzu Shiso Sidecar (I think that's what it's called). SUPER GOOD. The Kiawe smoked meat was so good. It's tossed in a sweet sauce and is super tender. I love the onions with it as it helps cut the fat. If you're looking for something sweet and savory, this is perfect! If the Escargot is available I HIGHLY recommend you get it if you can. It comes with six little snails and bread. It's cooked super nicely, soft and a little chewy. The cheese on top was the cherry. It was perfect. It wasn't overly salted too! As for the charred salad it was a very interesting taste. I didn't know you can char lettuce, which sounds so silly, but it's actually really good. It gave the salad a nice smokiness and it just made it more addicting. Lastly, the ribeye was really good! Very tender and cooked to perfection!! Overall, I wouldn't mind coming back. Food was really good and staff was awesome! Although food did take a while. We ended up staying by for almost 3 hours haha.

    What's the dress code?

    Island casual

Do they have a happy hour? And what is the menu and time for happy hour?

The Cutlery - Kaimuki's Neighborhood Steakhouse & Barbershop. Their listings focus on dinner hours (5-9 p.m.) and weekend specials, but nothing in the available information suggests they offer a dedicated happy hour…

Are there indoor tables? Last time I went we had to sit outside next to 9th Ave. very noisy from traffic from both waialae and 9th Ave

They do! I recommend making a reservation to get indoor seats

Do you need reservations ? If so how do you make them?

Depends when you want to go and how many in your party. But I always make reservations just to be safe (I don't like to wait). You can call them or reserve online on OpenTable. OpenTable has a website and mobile app.

    Where is the parking?

You can park on the street, but their lot is on 9th just past the corner next to the duplexes. Limited as they share it with Aloha Lounge.

    What are your hours?

Open 5-9 every day but Monday. Good to get there a few minutes early because parking is free but limited and they'll sit you and provide water (will just tell you you need to wait until 5 to order)

    Are pet dogs allowed?

I saw a pretty golden retriever in the outdoor seating when I was there.

We both ordered the ribeye steak, mashed potato, asparagus and fried rice. Both ribeye steaks were cooked to the exact doneness. The size of the ribeye steak was pretty big. Our server, Elijah did an excellent job answering any questions and was very attentive to what we ordered. When the meals came in. He even asked to double check the doneness of the steak by cutting it right down the middle and it was cooked to perfection. I don't remember the last time I went to a steak restaurant other than my birthday, so it's very rare to go to a restaurant and order steak. So this was a large treat to me. This visit we came for a late Father's Day celebration. Of course we all ordered steak since this is a steakhouse! We made reservations and we're probably seated at 5 PM. Since we were here early, restaurant was not very crowded at that time, but did fill up pretty good while we were there. One thing that I don't like about Little Joe's steakhouse is that they have the music playing very loudly that it makes it difficult to have conversations over dinner and even give your order to your server. We ordered the filet mignon, ribeye steak, chicken tenders and had sides of potatoes au gratin, sautéed mushrooms, grilled asparagus, fried rice with steak, and garlic fries. The food is consistently good, but I was disappointed in my steak as I ordered the ribeye to be cooked medium, but the steak I received was well done. It was still tasty, but definitely overcooked. My dad ordered the filet mignon medium but it came back rare. This surprised me, because in the past, they've cooked their steaks consistently to order, but cooking a good steak to well done is a definite, no no. Our server, however, was excellent, prompt and very polite. Ambience 3 stars Food 3.5 stars Service 4 stars

Since it was late, we noticed the back of house staff help the front. Everyone was so friendly and food comes out fast. I could also say portion of some items may not match price, but I understand inflation is increasing at an alarming rate. So I'll leave money out of this. Crushed cucumbers were interesting. We couldn't decide if eating it with chopsticks or spoon was better. With chopsticks, you might not get enough sauce. But you could taste the layers of flavor. With a spoon, you get too much saltiness. The spice hits at the end. The tako karaage were a little too chewy for us. Beef tongue was so tender. A definite must order. I dont think it needs rice though. We also ordered the late night nikumiso but it didn't come with an egg, which the menu said it should. The menu had been completely revamped and seemed to take on a more local influence while still being very upscale. Since we both enjoy "sampling" we shared two appetizer and a main. Everything was bursting with flavor! This is what we had: Starter salad from the seasonal menu of watermelon, strawberries, blueberries and greens served on a bed of yuzu infused goat cheese and drizzled with a shiso chimmichuri sauce. Yes, bursting with flavor! I would return for just this dish! Next shared was a tempura battered cauliflower served with a robust curry and yogurt reduction. Deeeelicious. I wouldn't say we licked the plate... but I won't deny it. Hahah. Finally shared the seafood in curry soup (think a lighter version of laksa) served with white rice on the side. Holy moly. No words to describe. Portions were generous enough to share still next time, I won't. That memorable you won't want to share. No longer serving volcano black rolls, tho absolutely serving amazingly wonderful dishes. Volcano black pancakes still available at breakfast. We kept on oooing and ahhhing and asking about the chef. Our servers Gale and Lily, who provided the most awesome service told us "Chef Lance" (as he is affectionately called) moved over from the Mariposa (Restaurant in Neiman Marcus) over a year ago. Further research revealed Chef Lance Kosaka has brought experience from noteworthy restaurants: Top of Waikiki, Merriman's, 53 By the Sea, and most recently Mariposa. I am hoping he will bring in a notable creme brulee that I loved at both the Top as well as Mariposa! Not wanting the deliciousness of Chef Steve's cooking to end, I also ordered a warabi salad to go for the next day. It was...just as wonderful as the other dishes we enjoyed. Thank you to Servers Gale and Lily, Chef Steve, actually...the entire staff who elevated a casual evening of dining to be a most memorable experience! Thank you to sister friend Karen who insisted we dine here, for the most wonderful company and meal. Validated parking in the building accessed on Seaside. Validated for either 2 or 3 hours depending on the promotion. Kamaaina discount of 10 percent given. Will we be back? Absolutely. And I won't wait so long this time to return!

There are a few tables,…read morebut the beauty of this place is that you're not paying for the ambiance, you're paying for delicious no frills prime rib, and if you're lucky, lobster tail too! We ordered the prime rib & 3 lobster tails special for $69.99 and fed three people (one is a smallish person). We ordered a back-up plate lunch with the smoked ham steaks that we barely touched, because we were so full. Most prices are under $30, and they have a great breakfast menu as well. Even though it was a busy day, our food came out in just a few minutes. Glad this place is still around. Can't wait to go again next time I need a cheap protein boost!

It's a "hole in the wall" type ambiance. But when the quality is this good for the money, ambience takes a back seat. We went on a day that missed out on the best prime rib in the state. Those days are Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday. And you best get there before closing cuz they run out fast! They also have the best pork chops I've ever eaten and those too run out early. We got there late on Wednesday and had the NY steak. It was a great size and tender cut with asparagus. It was excellent. We also had the chicken but was no longer crispy as we had takeout and didn't get to eat it until a couple of hours later but the flavor was good. Parking is street only so you best find a side street and park as it's busy. They deal in cash only! **** Most all plates come with a salad and rice.

Even from the first greeting, Nick made us feel like natural and expected VIPs by doing a lovely tour of the menu, and being ready for any questions or confusion we could've had. All of his recommendations were excellent, and his grasp of tableside presentations and service was truly top-notch! In addition, the rest of the staff - including the very approachable GM Doug - seamlessly jumped in to assist in service whenever needed, even though they were all each very busy. Since I'd put so much preparation into making my girlfriend's birthday trip feel special, I was really anxious - and holy s*** did you guys deliver! Thank you to all the staff for an unforgettable experience, and really hitting the high note on our entire vacation in Hawaii! Must tries: Ahi Tuna Rolls and the Hot-Stone A5 Wagyu (appetizers), Hot Shellfish Platter (Entree) and (omg) the Pineapple Foster.
