We had lunch here on May 16th. One of the best meals of our trip! The steak was perfectly cooked, tender, and very flavorful! The young lady who waited on us was very friendly and we didn't have to wait long for our food. My only issue was with a woman who appeared to be a manager that was publicly berating an older kitchen employee outside to the left of the counter. She literally was chewing this employee out for a good 15 minutes about him encroaching on the space of another co-worker. It was so unprofessional and I felt super bad for the man. Conversations with staff should never take place in the presence of the public and should be professional at a minimum! Cashier said 20 min wait but it took like 30 min. Luckily for us, we found the perfect place to sit just in time to watch the sunset (picture #2). Food wise, they gave a huge portion of rice, meat and salad. For the cost of this plate in Waikiki, it does a great job. Pepper steak done right at whatever steak doneness you want. This combined with a salad. I got the ranch dressing and chose to skip it because it tasted like a very generic ranch, homemade ranch would have hit the spot. Instead I just used the teriyaki sauce over my salad. Even though the line may be long, the service is fast. Their menu consists exclusively of steak plate lunches, thus the name Steak Shack. We got the 14-ounce steak plate for $27. The sliced steak is on a bed of rice, and the salad is in a separate container. It's very, very good, and is reasonably priced as my wife and I shared the plate lunch, and still have some left over. Larger steak plates are available for higher prices, as well. We parked at the lot across from the Hawaii Army Museum Society parking lot and walked over. The shack is located basically right on the beach, literal feet from water so its a great view/place to eat. We came on a Wednesday night at around 6:45. It was packed. People in line and waiting for their orders. We were went to share a 12 oz Steak Plate, medium rare. Despite being slammed, the woman checking us out was very friendly. Wait time was about 20-25 minutes to get our plate. Pretty hefty and they were not playing around with the portions. Steak wasn't really medium rare but it was still pretty flavorful. Steak Shack is a small beach stand at the back of the Outrigger Waikiki Reef hotel. They offer plates that come with organic greens and rice and a protein option (steak and/or chicken). When I had visited they were out of chicken. There is usually a line about 10 to 15 people deep, and once you order it takes another 15 to 25 minutes for your order to be prepared. Steak plate (14 oz) - $23 - I asked for my steak to be prepared medium rare and when my order was finally ready it had a nice peppery flavor to it. They provide some soy sauce on the side to elevate the flavors. I also told them to skip the rice, so they were happy to substitute the rice with more greens. For my greens I went with an Italian dressing, although they also have thousand island. Overall I was impressed with the quality of food here.
