Delicious steaks and salads. Great kind staff. A snowbird amazing restaurant for decades

The Steak Pit came with some good recommendations from the local staff at the Cliffs, where we were staying. We arrived early, there was no one in the place, so service was to be expectedly good and it was. Our waiter was very knowledgeable, helpful, and pleasant. His main point was the tenderness of all their meats, particularly the Wagyu cuts, due to their aging and especially their marbling. I enjoy steak and growing up in an environment where we raised our own beef, I understand the concept of aging and marbling meats. My wife ordered the Prime Steak kabob with the asparagus. Which she found enjoyable and tasty. The salad was excellent with a in house made Bleu Cheese dressing, the bread was incredible. I ordered the Wagyu 12oz. New York Strip and asparagus. While the steak was tender, I was really disappointed at the layer of fat, marbling, around the heart of the cut that was a 1/2" thick and of course not edible. At $55.00 for the dish I would have liked a better representation of a Wagyu New York steak. Good service, but overall not worth the price. We went up with some friends and was disappointed in our meal. The steaks are really pricey and ours were over cooked. Certainly not worth the price we paid. The atmosphere was good The Server was good but we probably won't be going back and paying that much money again. read more

Dropped by this place with a family of four. Every steak was over cooked. When this was brought to the attention of the staff, they told us it must be the lighting but they were "generous" enough to take it back anyway. We got our new steaks and they were fine, and the staff tried to make it right afterwords and even gave us a free desert for the trouble, but that comment about the lighting along with the attitude of the hostess and the chef on our way out earned them a few less stars. There are plenty of good restaurants up at snow bird, so I'd give this one a pass if I were you. read more

So I love the Snowbird Resort and I know you pay a premium to eat at any of the restaurants in the resort but this place was just ridiculous. Coming in with a group of friends we were looking for a good steak dinner and willing to spend some for it. Seated in the back by a nice but seemingly inexperienced hostess, we started out with a round of beers. We ordered the shrimp cocktail and the scallops to start. I know, I know, who orders shrimp cocktail? Well there were only 3 appetizers on the menu. Needless to say the shrimp cocktail was totally unremarkable and was $12 for 6 very small shrimp that were the equivalent to the ones you buy frozen in a huge bag in cosco. The scallops were decent but nothing I couldn't make myself. Unlimited salad was good but it was again nothing that special or that different from what you would find at Olive Garden. The main course was thoroughly disappointing. I had the Wagyu Top Sirloin cooked rare, with a side of double cooked mashed potatoes and cheese and asparagus (which where "Market Price" Whose ever heard of asparagus being market price?). Any steak entree was in the $30 to $44 range so I am expecting a damn good steak. First of all I ordered rare and it was cooked to somewhere between medium rare and medium. Instead of being cold and pink/purple in the middle it was hot and had very little pink left. It wasn't that juicy or flavorful, really bland in fact. And my 10 oz steak was about 2/3rds the size of my friends 10 oz steak. So either I got a lot less than 10 oz or he got way more. So I don't care that it is on a mountain and you can charge a premium there.....its crappy food. read more

We were visiting SLC for the first time in many years, and decided to revisit one of my favorites. The steakpit did not disappoint, and hit every note for a great meal. The location is great, with a beautiful drive up the canyon to the Snowbird resort. We saw mule deer and other wildlife along the way. Our dinner was absolutely wonderful, From the fresh chilled salads (best blue cheese dressing ever), to some of the best beef you'll ever have. I got the seared ribeye with smoked sea salt, and thanks to the waiter's suggestion requested it done medium. The steak was a sizzling masterpiece, and I regret not snapping a pic. The wife got the filet oscar, with king crab meat on top, and it was equally amazing. Didn't save room for dessert, so I'm going to have to save that for another review! read more

Read the long review for more details. The "Wagyu" is more of a marketing gimmick than actually being better than Prime. That said, they have really upped their game on meat quality. You can get lobster or crab all the time. It's still fresh, never frozen. So, it's great. With the better food, perfect mix of old and new school, excellent service, it now gets a rare five star review. read more

Another work dinner, another steak house. Ate here last night and it didn't disappoint again. We go here several times a year entertaining guests from out of town, and it fits the bill perfectly. We started with the bacon wrapped scallops- I would always prefer my bacon a bit crispier than it came out, but that is personal preference. They were tasty and the sauce complimented it very well. We also had shrimp cocktail, which is really hard to do badly, so it was fine. The salad that starts off every meal was very good, although I think they've changed it up from years past and that I liked the way they served it previously. When they tell you to mix the house ceasar and blue cheese, you should listen and do it. Yummy. The bread is also very good, grainy and served wtih real butter. I ordered the filet mignon for the first time (I'm a hard-core ribeye girl), and I have to say it was cooked to perfection and delicious. I had the steamed asparagus to offset my red meat choice, and wished I'd done the cheesy potatoes or rice instead. Our waitress did a great job with a large party of 8 and had us all very well taken care of. This is a great place to get a good steak! read more

The winter sports, Oktoberfest, even the tram ride and the summer hiking at Snowbird are good. You expect the usual resort fare at their snack bars, overcooked overpriced hot dogs, $7 cups of chili and occasionally a good $12 cheeseburger. The Steak Pit is Snowbird's high-end restaurant. When the Steak Pit was new, they had a limited menu of steaks, a few typical steakhouse sides, the stock desserts and a unique house specialty salad where they made their own dressings, blue cheese, 1000 Island, and Caesar vinaigrette from scratch and you assembled your own salad at your table (meaning you put the salad mix in a bowl, added croutons and your choice of dressing). Freeze time and fast-forward a couple decades to today. Nothings changed except the menus now are normal printed menus instead of the original wooden cutting board menus. They have the usual cuts of steaks, filets, New Yorks, Ribeyes and with a few variations: teriyaki, sauteed mushrooms, a perennial special, Filet Oscar, topped with crab and a few fish dishes, almond or macadamia-crusted trout is the other perennial "special". They also list market-priced seafood, but it's always the nut-covered trout. Sides are limited to baked potatoes, cheesy twice-baked potatoes that are a scoop of rustic mashed potato covered with cheese then lightly baked again. Better than a baked potato, but not grand. Other side dishes are steamed vegetables and bland rice pilaf. All entrees start with a good dark, sweet multi-grain bread and the salad. We had Mud Pie for dessert, an odd Steak Pit version. No coffee ice cream, cinnamon instead and it had been frozen for so long the crust had changed into a tough freezer-burned layer that was almost impossible to cut even with a steak knife. Our server was a moron, but the others, and usually they're good. Ours warned me about having my ribeye medium instead of medium-rare as I ordered it because, by his advice, medium would break down the fat better in the ribeye and make it more tender. I went with medium-rare and it was as tender as a proper medium-rare ribeye should be. God knows what he's thinking. Their steaks are good quality cuts, but not dry aged, which for their prices you should expect. Their wine list is very small for any restaurant and exceptionally small for a high-end steak place. Ok, you're visiting from out of town, staying at The Cliff Lodge and you want something more than snack bar food. Go to the Steak Pit. If you're driving up to Snowbird from Salt Lake, bring $7 and enjoy the chili at the snack bar, or drive back down the canyon and spend your Steak Pit money on a good meal. read more

So disappointed... as usual. Aside from Brennan, our waiter, who was excellent (& who could not apologize enough). With such a LIMITED MENU to begin with, how the hell can you run out of menu items???... An appetizer - artichokes (which we went there for... UGH!), and an entrée - the lobster tail. And then the crab legs (not fresh, frozen, for $46!!!) came out cold. No break, and no visit from manager to apologize... Every reason why this valley, other than for the skiing, sucks. Limited dining options, and then, limited menus. The steak? Well, we stopped ordering that after giving it a shot for the last few years... Still chewing last January's steak. Don't know why they don't just go to Costco & buy their prime... I'd like to think they could cook it better than me... What's the definition of insanity? Ordering the same thing over & over again, and expecting a different result (forget excellent, I'll take a decent result @ Snowbird)... It's truly frustrating that, as timeshare owners coming year after year, they obviously know they have a captive audience, so need need for quality... just overpriced, mediocre food from a menu that hasn't changed/expanded since the 90's. read more

We brought an out of town guest here and had a nice experience. Snowbird is a great spot to visit and this is a great meal. The ribeye steak is fantastic, and I tell you what, the salad dressings are crazy good. Weird, cause I try to limit myself to 1 salad per month, but I actually really enjoyed it here. It's a bit of a walk through the facilities and past some locker rooms to get to the restaurant. The whole setup is pretty old school and could use some refreshing / updating, but the Steak Pit has the good stuff that counts: great service and great food. If you're looking for a meal and a nice getaway, have someone in town that needs a great meal, or just want to cruise up the canyon for a fun evening & a breath of fresh air, come check out the Steak Pit. The steak pit, centered at the center offers a variety of meaty dishes. Sauteed mushrooms were brought out first, baking in a light herb butter sauce. Delicious. The house salad, came prepared with sides of home made blue cheese or freshly prepared ceasar. Nice big bowl to share. The croutons were you're classic packaged kind, however the home made dressings were fantastic. A hearty 8 oz wagyu filet, yes folks wagyu beef baby! Came nicely done medium rare with grilled asparagus:. A close up of the mouth watering beef with a dab of the house made blue cheese was phenomenal. All fully completed with a big, bold and beautiful Australian Shiraz wishing tree bottle. The meal was satisfying. All you need know is a hot toddy by a fireplace to seal the experience. read more

The overall experience was excellent, especially the service. I had a good Californian Zinfandel and ordered a quite hearty entree of baked scallops that came with bottomless salad and a side. They serve warm, dark whole loaf bread with sweet butter, which was tempting enough to make me break my own rules. They make their own salad dressings, which looked rich though I couldn't partake but they gave me an olive oil and balsamic alternative. Considering what I've spent in restaurants in LA and NY at $50 tip inclusive, this was a great experience, excellent service, with good food at the right price. And the dinner ended with a porcupine outside feeding on that bread! read more

I have eaten here several times; unfortunately it is hit or miss - and for the prices that they charge, I do not enjoy paying the bill after a miss. The wait staff can be great, or they can be high school kids who are just trying to make a buck and don't care about providing quality service. Steaks, salads, seafood: this place is great for all of them - sometimes. I am not a fan of sometimes getting quality food and service, so I only give them three stars. If they could ratchet up their consistency, I would give the Steak Pit five stars without hesitation. I'm sure if you are one of those people who likes to complain to a manager to get a free meal, this place will provide you with plenty of those opportunities. read more

Went up to Snowbird to eat at one of the restaurants. Picked the Steak Pit. 4 of us went. 3 of us got the Filet and 1 got the NY Strip. It was one of the best Filets I've ever had. My other 2 friends who got the Filet agreed with my sentiment. My other friend stated the NY Strip was very very good. Totally recommend and I will be back. read more

On a snowboard trip with my sister and friend we decided last minute to make reservations at The Steak Pit. The hostess Rachel was so friendly and helpful, went out of her way to find us at the bar next door to let us know our table was ready. Our server Joe was awesome! Friendly fast and informative. My sis and I ordered a ribeye (medium) cooked perfectly and probably one of the best steaks we've had at a steakhouse. Our friend ordered a New York steak (med well) and she was very pleased! My sister and I wish we lived closer, it would definitely be a monthly occurrence! Awesome awesome place! read more

An outdoor table on a late summer evening, a little steam babbling nearby, and a live band across the the green. Oh yeah, and meat. The server was a little busy, but came around often enough. The salad was a little wilty at the edges, but I felt the veg detracted from the bleu cheese anyhow. Why are they giving me plants in a steak pit anyhow?! Went to the Steak Pit on a Friday night after a quick hike to Cecret Lake. Eric, who I believe was the manager on duty, greeted us as soon as we came in. He was so friendly and personable and offered to seat us outside. We chatted for a bit and I felt so welcome while talking with him. Our waitress was also so friendly and amazing and gave us great recommendations (including the Rose wine- get it!). I had the filet and asparagus, and my date had the king crab legs and cheese potatoes. Everything was so perfect- the steak rivaled one I had at a top rated restaurant in New York. We were the only ones out on the patio and Eric came to check on us, and went out of his way to make sure we were warm enough and moved one of the heaters closer to us. The evening was perfect, the service was outstanding, and so was the food. I hope they know what a special night they made for us. We'll be back soon. read more

We came here for new years eve, the service was super fast, the all you can eat salad followed by an amazing dish. It was called The Oscar, it was an 8oz filet mignon with 3oz of crab covered in bernaise sauce with a twice backed cheesy potatoes and asparagus....ugh... it was so amazing! read more

The Steak Pit was the perfect place for a special occasion with the family. The steamed artichokes were a delightful starter to the meal with delicious sauces to accompany them. The meals came with a fresh salad with homemade blue cheese and Italian dressings. I'm glad I took our server Val's suggestion and had both dressings together. The filet was cooked to perfection and GENEROUSLY topped with king crab and asparagus Oscar style with creamy twice baked potatoes as a side. The best Filet Oscar I have had in any steak house I have been to. Make sure you save room for the amazing deserts. We shared the cheesecake and the mudslide which were DELICIOUS!! The perfect meal and service. Everyone from the manager to the chef made us feel welcome and ensured the best dining experience. Okay I feel that I have to defend my love of The Steak Pit. First of all just for those who visit Snowbird, this restaurant is not located in The Cliff Lodge, it is down the mountain from The Cliff and is in the Snowbird Center below where the Tram is. I have been coming to this restaurant for over 11 years and it is where I mention for my last meal on earth. The bottomless salad is made fresh every night. The blue cheese dressing is made in house, and no they do not have any ranch. The steaks will be cooked true to temperature, the veggies are fresh and you really need to try the mushrooms and my absolute favorite the artichoke! They have a nice selection of inexpensive wines but also have some of my favorite wine selections!!!!!!!! Stag's Leap Cabernet Sauvignon, Silver Oak Cabernet Sauvignon and Pahlmeyer Pinot Noir to name a few! read more

Just wanted to put in my two cents though because it's really NOT that pricey considering you get a salad and a side dish with your steak, not like the higher end steakhouses where they charge you for each side dish and a salad starter (unlimited salad by the way). read more

I wish I could give no stars. Snowbird has been really disappointing twice now. No lines in the parking area lead to people taking up two spots. When I took 30 seconds in the big open east lot that looks like it's reserved for self important employees I got yelled at by a rent a cop. Keep in mind I never got out of my car or turned off my engine and wasn't blocking anything. Sorry if I wanted to figure out where to park I guess I won't park and just take my money somewhere else I hope you sink if you aren't already. read more

Another reviewer described the food well, "it's a lot like Olive Garden". Drove up from Sandy to find somewhere to eat with a view. This was not the place to accomplish that. Spectacular drive in...but the restaurant is a lot like being in a concrete bunker. Server was excellent; hostess needs to mind her tone with the staff. Excellent steak house and the best blue cheese dressing EVER. If you like your steak cooked right, this is the place to come. I ordered the filet medium rare with crab legs and it was fantastic. The steak was cooked nicely, if not a little on the rare side, but I would much rather have a steak under than over. Besides, I was so full after eating so much salad with blue cheese dressing that I took most of it home anyways. Even better since I'd be cooking it again! I really like the decor in this place too, very old-school steak house feel with the wood paneling and lower lighting. Classy. Can't stop thinking about that dressing though...both the dressings, blue cheese and thousand island, are homemade and both equally fantastic. They each come with the family size salad bowl, which is served with all the entrees. Another huge plus for me because I love a good salad when I go to a steak house. The blue cheese has so so so many delicious, big chunks of cheese swimming in a creamy pool of dressing. I wanted to eat it plain with a spoon. Who needs salad! Too bad I only come here once a year. Everything is in a name - and this holds basically true here- yes the blue cheese dressing is nice and the service team friendly and helpful but you go to a steak pit for the steak - and when paying 43 USD for a steak from Idaho you expect much much more. Let's start with a broiler that can heat the steak to a proper temperature / steak is not piping hot and plate is cold - and the cut is average - not a true steak house - it survives because of its location - a hungry captive ski crowd with few choices on the mountain. Great food, AMAZING SERVICE! Everyone from the hostess, manager, and chefs made sure we were taken care of throughout our meal. Ribeye Steak was cooked to perfection and the cheesy potatoe is awesome. We even did dessert which normally we don't, and we were not disappointed. I will be coming back for sure. read more

I loved this place! The food and service here were so good we wanted to eat dinner here again the next night before we left to go the airport but there was too long of a wait. Do not miss this place if you come to snowbird. We ordered their artichoke appetizer, filet, ribeye and a bottle of wine. Everything was delicious including the big salad that comes with the meal. Also, our server was great. We were staying at the Cliff Lodge next door and didn't have a car so were eating all of our meals either at Cliff Lodge or the center and this place was by far the best. We will definitely eat here again when we return to Snowbird. It's a real gem! read more
