We have been wanting to go here for years and finally had a chance! The service, food, and drinks were 10/10. We felt so special and fancy and literally every single bite was delicious. I can see why this is a special place. A few small things that made the experience not perfect, which might sound minor but really did affect my evening. Sitting at a window table (gorgeous view!) was so cold! I should have dressed warmer. Ladies definitely wear warm shoes and bring a few layers. A glass of wine helped with this problem a bit. The chairs are weirdly tall off the ground (if I didn't have heels on my legs would have been dangling, and I am average height, I do not usually have this problem) and the tables were so low! We were seated at a corner window table overlooking a three story waterfall. We started with the Korean fried cauliflower with scallions, spiced cashews and gochujang dressing. WOW, a true flavor bomb with a small crunch from the amazing flavored cashews. The honey balsalmic chicken with brown butter grits, baby brocolinni, shaved goat cheese, glazed walnuts, and pickled blackberries was moist, lightly flavored and ok. The bison strip loin in a port demi-glaze was served with corn salsa, and jalapeno mac and cheese was disappointing. The bison was chewy and lacked flavor, not remarkable. The spicy mac and cheese was impressive. At the end of the evening, it felt like we were guests at a close friend's mountain cabin. The service was stellar without being overbearing. The setting is second to none. The menu does not feel fresh or open to change. The chef needs to up his game and be more creative like the amazing cauliflower dish. The menu was meat heavy, tired and needs to be refreshed. You have a chance to make his dining experience, the most memorable in Salt Lake City. Now, over weight businessman line the tables. Change will not happen with this menu your granddad liked. People don't eat like that today. My son gave us a gift card so we decided to use it for my Birthday which is in November. It is up MillCreek Canyon and the ambiance is second to none. It's a dress up kind of place but you eat in a giant log cabin. I had Shrimp and my husband had the Elk Steak. I didn't try it but he said it was delicious and my dinner was too. For dessert we had coconut cake and Crème Brûlée my favorite dessert in the world I can never say no to it. It melted in my mouth and was divine. We got a Celebrity surprise too. My boyfriend and I went to Log Haven to celebrate Valentine's early, and it was such a treat. It is, of course, tucked in the mountains, but it's in a beautiful spot. We had reservations for 7:30 on a Friday night. There was still some snow out and it was quite a chilly night, which made me a little nervous since I was just wearing a long dress and a coat. However, when we turned over our car to the (free!) valet service, the walk was short and there were heaters. Kelly was our server and was a delight. She had great recommendations (she helped me pick a drink. Shoutout to the bartender, Brenda--her special drink was delicious) and was very efficient and kind. My boyfriend got a steak and really enjoyed it. I also enjoyed my chicken. A highlight were the whipped mashed potatoes....ugh, so good. Overall, this was a great date night spot. To get there you drive through a canyon, part of it national forest, so the setting already feels special before you even arrive. When you reach the lodge there is valet, which was especially nice on a very cold February night. They park the car across the street by a small waterfall that you can see from the restaurant. Inside, it feels like a classic wood log cabin. There was a live piano player, which added to the cozy alpine atmosphere. We started with artisan rolls that were warm and soft, served with truffle butter. The miso crab cakes were flavorful and balanced. I had the bison strip loin with mac and cheese. The bison was cooked to temperature and was tender. The mac and cheese was a large portion, more than I would have preferred, and it made the dish feel heavier than it needed to. I would have liked something a bit more refined and in a smaller amount. For dessert we had the frozen coconut banana soufflé with roasted pineapple sauce, which was very good. Service was fine overall. We asked about sampling a wine before ordering a bottle, especially since it was available by the glass, and were told no, which felt a bit unusual. The ambiance is versatile--perfect if you're feeling romantic and dressed up, but just as comfortable if you come in more casually. The service truly stood out. Our server, Elise, was phenomenal and honestly made the experience. She guided us on what to order and the right portions, which we really appreciated--and she nailed it. Well, I finally had occasion to visit Log Haven. While I had been in the restaurant before, many years ago, this was my first honest-to-goodness visit as a regular dining patron. Hopefully it won't be my last. It's everything it's supposed to be. We were seated on the patio and there's the hillside, the waterfall, the mountain air, and even heaters and complimentary blankets if there's a chill. It's everything mountain dining should be. The service is professional, and I mean that word intentionally. While I didn't ask, it does seem like the people working here are professional, dedicated servers. They're not filling in the gaps between other jobs, this is their job, and they're darn good at it. From walking us through the menu, the specials, and even snapping our photo by the waterfall, it's clear they're dialed in and buttoned up. We went with a handful of shared tastes and one entree--the elk--to share. They were gracious to split the entree for us. The tuna tartare was a standout, the Korean inspired cauliflower a hit, and while I did enjoy the mushroom and truffle "nachos" it was a lot of food and seemed like a bit much for our already full dining agenda. I'd recommend them for sure, but share them. The elk entree was exactly the right thing to be eating in the mountains. Though the entire menu is hardly daring or experimental, it's absolutely pitch perfect for the venue and I wouldn't change a thing. After years of resisting coming because it was "too fancy", we finally came out for our anniversary. Though the inside was cozy as we waited, the outdoor seating was just lovely. They had a 2 piece bands filling the area with soft soothing sounds while also enjoying the trickle of their water feature's "waterfall". It was surprisingly chilly up the canyon compared to valley, I wish I had brought a coat but was fortunate that they had blankets available. However I didn't find the chair particularly comfortable and ended up using it as a back pillow. As a vegetarian, the menu is quite limited with only one entree, the udon. Log Haven is a very interesting place. We went for our anniversary on the recommendation of a friend. We both dolled-up and we weren't alone, but others were hikers with packs coming in after exploring the canyon. And there was a wedding that night so some were extra fancy. All that to say, there's a verity of cliental in case you're worrying about what to wear. But the showstopper is really the building! I mean, that's cooler than a historic log cabin in the woods??? We enjoyed the miso crab cakes, hot honey fried quail, baby kale salad, seared elk striploin, and porcini crusted filet. I would recommend any of these! This unique location was definitely an experience to be had, especially in the middle of the woods in Utah. The place was decorated as holiday cabin wonderland, the service was great, and the desserts and appetizers were delicious. The entrees were average and might have been lacking in flavor but the appetizers made our table part of the clean plate club. Cozy, high end restaurant in the hills. The ambiance here is perfect with a pianist and bass player playing soft jazz in the background as you enjoy a cabin like interior. I tried the steak au poivre which was cooked perfectly and paired with fingerling potatoes and glazed Brussel sprouts. Tucked away up Millcreek Canyon, be sure to get a reservation on the earlier side of the evening if you're going for dinner so you can soak up the mountain views. It's intimate and lovely here. The only qualm I have is the lack of vegetarian options - there was a veggie stir fry on the menu, but my server gave me the inside scoop and encouraged me to try the gnocchi without meat. It was the right call for sure! Get the bread service, it's unlimited bread at $3/person and comes with an amazing truffle butter. Our rolls came out piping hot, fresh from the oven. Now to the salmon dish. Hmmmmm.... I see a piece of salmon, a bed of lentils and white cream sauce on the plate. However, they acted like they don't know each other and don't wanna have anything to do with each other..... So why are they on the same plate? The only dish that's been done right is the tuna tartare. The presentation is beautiful and they don't just murder the fish by drowning them in soy sauce or lemon juice. We visited Log Haven this summer and it was such a wonderful experience. We are here now with friends skiing and we were so excited to take them to the restaurant for a great dinner. I made the reservation several weeks ago, gave all our info and our credit card info and we were all set. I phoned today to confirm and we had no reservation at any time on the day we had chosen. The manager I spoke with had no empathy for our situation and gave me the impression that I thought I had made the reservation but really never did. We ordered the filet mignon and prawns for our main course. Filet was very good. The prawns were actually 16-20 shrimp, not prawns. No flavor and not fresh. Review: A Disappointing Return to Log Haven We had a 7:30 p.m. Friday dinner reservation at Log Haven to celebrate our shared birthday -- an occasion noted in our reservation. The main dining room was fully occupied with a fairly loud ambient buzz, which is understandable for a busy night. My wife and I have dined at Log Haven roughly eight times over the past five years -- with large groups, for anniversaries, and for intimate dinners -- and have consistently left impressed. Unfortunately, this visit fell far short of that standard. Our waiter greeted us promptly and mentioned two specials. However, the noise level made it difficult to hear him, and despite our visible efforts to lean in, he made no attempt to speak up. After my wife ordered a cocktail and I asked for a moment to decide, he acknowledged our birthday celebration and stepped away. When he returned with her drink, I ordered an Alt Fashioned, and we placed orders for the bread service and the Tuna Tartare appetizer. The Tartare was the high point of the evening -- beautifully presented and delicious. The bread, however, was not. Two small ciabatta rolls arrived on a plate with herbed butter. The $3 menu charge immediately stood out, as in years past the restaurant offered an abundant, complimentary bread basket. When I asked about the change, our waiter noted additional rolls could be requested at no charge -- a detail that, in a fine dining setting, should have been proactively communicated. What felt most off, though, was the pacing. The waiter checked in several times to ask if we were ready to order entrées, even as we were still enjoying cocktails and appetizers. It came across as hurried rather than attentive. When we finally ordered -- the New York Strip for me and the shrimp with gnocchi for my wife -- the mains were acceptable but not memorable. The steak and shrimp were well-prepared, yet the sides disappointed: undercooked green beans that tasted frozen and mashed potatoes lacking flavor or finesse. For a dinner exceeding $200, the overall experience -- from inattentive service to diminished menu quality -- was underwhelming. At this price point, particularly when dining for a special occasion such as a birthday, one generally expects a gesture of celebration -- a complimentary dessert or some acknowledgment beyond a verbal note. None was offered, which again felt like a miss for a restaurant of Log Haven's caliber. Given that discretionary dining is a luxury, we expect occasions like this to meet or exceed past experiences. Sadly, this visit did neither. While Log Haven has long been one of our favorite restaurants, we'll be taking our future celebrations elsewhere -- most likely to Riverhorse on Main, where exceptional service and consistency remain part of the experience. read more

Mmmm Log Haven! IYKYK. A nice, scenic drive up Millcreek canyon brings you to the beautiful rustic location of the Log Haven restaurant. The drive is especially lovely in the wintertime. As you pull in, you are greeted by a valet to open the door for your date and take care of your car. It is parked for you across the street next to a beautiful waterfall cascading down the mountain. Once you enter, you are offered a coat check, or if there is no one checking coats, you are free to hang your own coat/hat on their provided hangers. The Maitre D checks you in (reservations are highly encouraged) and you are sat in a wonderful lobby with soft chairs and a warm, crackling fireplace. Once your table is ready, you are taken in and seated in the dining area. Beautifully decorated with cabin décor and lighting. It feels very cozy and inviting. We came in on a Monday for an early Valentine's Day dinner. It was busy but not bad. The drink menu is given and we went for a couple glasses of Riesling. There was already ice water on the table. They also have some house craft cocktails and a quite large menu of drinks and wines to choose from. We ordered a bread appetizer which came with a generous ramekin of butter. It was delicious. We both ordered a salad (Caesar and Kale). The Caesar was just okay and a bit bitter with the purple cabbage used in it. The Kale was better with delicious bits of smoked cheese and cranberries. Their menu isn't large but there are plenty of entrees to choose from. We both decided to try their filet that came with bleu cheese butter on top and a side of cheesy mashed potatoes and French-style green beans. The steaks were both cooked perfectly medium as we requested. So tender and you hardly needed the steak knife to cut it. We normally take a portion of our meal home, but that didn't happen this night. It was just too good to not finish off the plate! After dinner, we were offered a choice of desserts and while we were both full, we could not resist their crème brulee with raspberry topping. It was amazing and to die for. Prices here are not cheap as you would likely suspect, but the atmosphere, excellent service by the staff and fantastic food makes it all worth it. Probably the most romantic restaurant in the Salt Lake City area. We highly recommend Log Haven for Valentine's Day, anniversary or just a fancy date night. Maybe the primary selling point of log haven is the scenic location and relaxing but upscale log cabin interior. You are far enough up Millcreek canyon that you are mostly secluded from the city and get all the sights and sounds of nature. This aspect alone is enough to make log haven a great location for a special meal. The service also matches the upscale interior and menu price: well worth it. I wish I had taken down our waiter's name to give him a shoutout but he was great. Very cordial and knowledgeable but without the robot like quality that some nice restaurants require of their staff. They had a gentleman playing some snoopy tunes on the piano for some background. Our waiter was very knowledgeable of the menu and provided great suggestions. I've only experienced bison meat on a burger. I ordered the bison steak au poivre and it was outta this world! Tastes similar to beef and it was very tender...it's a very lean meat. The charred Brussels sprouts with bacon and cippolinis was a perfect paring with the bison steak. It had snowed a little and the outside looked so pretty like a movie set! Didn't look real. We walked in and were asked to sit in the waiting area which had nice fire place. We got sat near a window which my husband couldn't stop staring out of because of how pretty rhetorical snow looked. We started off with the crab cakes and there were so good! Don't be afraid of the jalepeno. It's not spicy. I got the filet and my husband got the bison steak. Both were really good! My steak medium. Was cooked perfectly, melt in your mouth perfect, the mash potatoes were really good too. I was not a fan of the green beans. They tasted kind of bland to me. I'd prefer the brussel sprouts on the bison plate. The bison had French fries which I think they should just do mash potatoes or another potato. The fries were good but I prefer mash potatoes with a steak. We had a drink but I don't remember the name. It was really good too. Crème bruleee for dessert was really good as well! Our waiter was nice too. Friendly and talkative. I noticed some reviews people upset with bread not being served. You have to request it. It's on the menu $3. Which I think they should just give it to you, you're already spending tons on the main course meal. read more

I heard great things about Log Haven, so I was looking forward to trying it, but overall, I wasn't that impressed with the food or drinks. The staff were great, but the food just didn't wow me. We ordered 2 different steaks and didn't like either. Ambiance was what you'd expect for a log cabin but it felt a little dated with the food choices and the drink options. Maybe could use a refresh. read more
