    Incredible Korean spiced cauliflower
    George E.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Quality food, ambiance, surroundings, flavor balanced dishes and wait staff each can make a perfect evening on their own.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Log Haven is the unique unicorn on its own. A beautiful serene drive up a tranquil canyon filled with wild turkeys in full display heightens your senses on where are you going and what awaits? Houses are sparse, foliage is beautiful and sharp rock outcroppings are breathtaking[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. [[HIGHLIGHT]]You arrive at this majestic log cabin on a hill, hidden in the trees. This old historic home has been transformed into a charming dining destination years ago[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. You are seated in a sitting room with a fireplace and drinks are ordered. Reservations here are a must. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We were seated at a corner window table overlooking a three story waterfall.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We started with the Korean fried cauliflower with scallions, spiced cashews and gochujang dressing. WOW, a true flavor bomb with a small crunch from the amazing flavored cashews. The honey balsalmic chicken with brown butter grits, baby brocolinni, shaved goat cheese, glazed walnuts, and pickled blackberries was moist, lightly flavored and ok. The bison strip loin in a port demi-glaze was served with corn salsa, and jalapeno mac and cheese was disappointing. The bison was chewy and lacked flavor, not remarkable. The spicy mac and cheese was impressive. At the end of the evening, it felt like we were guests at a close friend's mountain cabin. The service was stellar without being overbearing. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The setting is second to none.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The menu does not feel fresh or open to change. The chef needs to up his game and be more creative like the amazing cauliflower dish. The menu was meat heavy, tired and needs to be refreshed. You have a chance to make his dining experience, the most memorable in Salt Lake City. Now, over weight businessman line the tables. Change will not happen with this menu your granddad liked. People don't eat like that today. More veggies, lighter and fresher dishes will close the circle making this the talk of SLC, not just their grandparents.

My son gave us a gift card so we decided to use it for my Birthday which is in November. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It is up MillCreek Canyon and the ambiance is second to none.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's a dress up kind of place but you eat in a giant log cabin.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I had Shrimp and my husband had the Elk Steak. I didn't try it but he said it was delicious and my dinner was too. For dessert we had coconut cake and Crème Brûlée my favorite dessert in the world I can never say no to it. It melted in my mouth and was divine. We got a Celebrity surprise too. I said oh he must have come to wish me a Happy Birthday. I would have asked but his body guards were huge. See the picture for who it was.....

My boyfriend and I went to Log Haven to celebrate Valentine's early, and it was such a treat. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It is, of course, tucked in the mountains, but it's in a beautiful spot.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We had reservations for 7:30 on a Friday night. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There was still some snow out and it was quite a chilly night, which made me a little nervous since I was just wearing a long dress and a coat.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]However, when we turned over our car to the (free!) valet service, the walk was short and there were heaters.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Kelly was our server and was a delight. She had great recommendations (she helped me pick a drink. Shoutout to the bartender, Brenda--her special drink was delicious) and was very efficient and kind. My boyfriend got a steak and really enjoyed it. I also enjoyed my chicken. A highlight were the whipped mashed potatoes....ugh, so good. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Overall, this was a great date night spot. Food was good, but it's definitely more of a treat for the ambiance.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

After years of resisting coming because it was "too fancy", we finally came out for our anniversary. Though the inside was cozy as we waited, the outdoor seating was just lovely. They had a 2 piece bands filling the area with soft soothing sounds while also enjoying the trickle of their water feature's "waterfall". It was surprisingly chilly up the canyon compared to valley, I wish I had brought a coat but was fortunate that they had blankets available. However I didn't find the chair particularly comfortable and ended up using it as a back pillow. As a vegetarian, the menu is quite limited with only one entree, the udon. We also had the cauliflower appetizer which was really great. The udon was a generous serving and tasty but for me to return I wish there were other vegetarian entrée options as well.

Log Haven is a very interesting place. We went for our anniversary on the recommendation of a friend. We both dolled-up and we weren't alone, but others were hikers with packs coming in after exploring the canyon. And there was a wedding that night so some were extra fancy. All that to say, there's a verity of cliental in case you're worrying about what to wear. But the showstopper is really the building! I mean, that's cooler than a historic log cabin in the woods??? We enjoyed the miso crab cakes, hot honey fried quail, baby kale salad, seared elk striploin, and porcini crusted filet. I would recommend any of these! But we couldn't settle on anything we really desired from the dessert menu.

Went here on a Sunday for a quick dinner with my hubby, and I'm so glad we did! Parking is valet-only, which was easy and convenient. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambiance is versatile--perfect if you're feeling romantic and dressed up, but just as comfortable if you come in more casually.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The service truly stood out. Our server, Elise, was phenomenal and honestly made the experience. She guided us on what to order and the right portions, which we really appreciated--and she nailed it. We loved the tuna tartare and the crab cakes to start. For entrées, the shrimp and the pork loin were both excellent. We ended by sharing the banana dessert, which was the perfect sweet finish. Also worth mentioning--their wine selection is great and paired really nicely with our meal. Such a great experience overall. We're already planning to come back with a group so we can try more dishes!

[[HIGHLIGHT]]This unique location was definitely an experience to be had, especially in the middle of the woods in Utah.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place was decorated as holiday cabin wonderland[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]], the service was great, and the desserts and appetizers were delicious. The entrees were average and might have been lacking in flavor but the appetizers made our table part of the clean plate club. The cocktails were terrible, but that has seemed to track on many of the restaurants I've been to out here. The desserts were phenomenal and the $3 bread service (oh how I wish it was free) was delicious because it came with a truffle butter.

Wow - Take your date here for a unique, romantic evening! If you go at the right time of year (we went in early June) - in a canyon with waterfall views (one in the front and another in the back). Live music, excellent pairings of meat/vegetables/sauce. Log cabin feel. Four rooms with a fifth area additional outside seating. Attentive service. yet they pace themselves, figuring you are here for a relaxing meal. We had elk and bison respectively - definitely not something served at many other places. Either way, get there before dark and take in the views.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambience here is incredible. What a charming place.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]I loved the live music![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The food is great. I wasn't blown away, but I was happy with it. The duck fat potato's were amazing. The sauce they use is incredible. The wines are actually super reasonably priced. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Overall, for a nice dinner - this is a great place. Reliable food, amazing ambience, good drinks.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

There's not much more that I can say about Log Haven. Time and time again, it is our go-to for anniversaries and celebrations. Just wanted to update my review to add a few more photos of our amazing food. The rolls with black truffle sea salt butter were as good as they sound. I am a snob for raw fish, and the tuna tartare was impeccable. The pork loin was also so flavorful and tender. Their wine and cocktail game is always on point as well. A great, cozy place to have amazing food. Not to mention, the view is pretty nice as well.

Cozy, high end restaurant in the hills. The ambiance here is perfect with a pianist and bass player playing soft jazz in the background as you enjoy a cabin like interior. I tried the steak au poivre which was cooked perfectly and paired with fingerling potatoes and glazed Brussel sprouts. Dinner was capped off with the maple crème brûlée which had a perfectly crackable top and paired nicely with some decaf coffee. There is very limited service up there so calling an uber took awhile but the facility offered to call a cab if needed. Valet parking also available at the restaurant.

Located up Millcreek Canyon, the drive up to Log Haven is beautiful. It'd be beautiful anytime of year, but the snow capped mountains were especially beautiful. It's such a romantic spot with the fireplaces and views. A great place to celebrate a special occasion The rolls with the house made compound butter are a must. Ours was truffle and we all loved it. We also ordered crab cakes and cauliflower to start and would order again The star of my night was the porcini encrusted filet though. I usually order salmon but for the first time in yrs, ordered red meat. I was not disappointed with that choice. It was so good. Additionally, everyone at the table who ordered some kind of steak, all raved about theirs too. This place runs about $100 a person. It isn't cheap, but it is a great place if you're wanting a cozy, romantic stop in a rustic setting.

The Ambiance was 10/10. The mocktails were perfection and the food and service were exquisite. It made for a special evening. We will be coming back.

However, additional details create a loving connection - it's off-Broadway central location, the copper-paneled ceiling that mimics warm conversations in varied spaces (cocktail, chef's counter, expandable tables for groups, and outdoor), fresh, locally-sourced ingredients with service to match. It's the place where I had my first glass of Turley Zinfandel (education alongside), and the place I will always return for my favorite Wagyu Beef Stroganoff (a comfort from home, but upscale). This one delivered with large, firm, expertly seasoned portobello & forest mushrooms over wide, freshly handmade pappardelle pasta that soaks up rich beef stock (a touch of black pepper) blended with crème fraîche. A generous portion of wagyu is tender and rich. PRO TIP: Mix then let it sit & marinade a minute - flavor pays in dividends. For dessert, a Valhrona Chocolate Pudding topped with whip cream and Maldon flake salt - exquisite, but expensive. The texture is comforting and delicious - olive oil adds a lingering finish with slight fruit.

I informed her that we had a reservation under my name, John, but she simply looked at her list, seemed annoyed, and told us to wait anyway. While we were waiting, we watched several parties of two arrive after us with reservations at 8:10, 8:15, and even 8:20, and they were seated before us. After waiting about 20 minutes, I went back to ask how much longer it would be. I was told it would be another 20 minutes. I reminded Carleigh that we had a reservation, and her response was, "Oh, you did?" She then asked for my full name and phone number, looked up the reservation, apologized, and immediately escorted us to a table that appeared to have been ready the entire time. This was extremely frustrating and disappointing. Reservations are made so guests don't have to wait behind people who arrive later. It felt like our reservation had been completely ignored until I spoke up a second time. Whether this was poor organization or a lack of attention, the level of service at the front desk was unacceptable. We came looking forward to a nice family dinner, but the experience started with unnecessary frustration and left a very poor first impression. I sincerely hope additional training is provided so this doesn't happen to other guests.

While visiting Salt Lake City from out of town, we treated ourselves to a fancy dinner at Monte, a…read morerestaurant that is rumored to be angling for a Michelin star. From the description on their website about a "chef-driven" experience, I thought it would be a chef's table, but in actuality it was a pre fixe menu, as we never talked to chef Martin Babio, although our server told us about each course. Online reviews are mixed, so we were a little concerned to be the only customers on a Thursday if it really were a simultaneous seating event (another couple came in 45 minutes later). TL;DR: It was worth the money. Drinks: rose lemonade (from a bottle, but the best lemonade hubby says he's ever had), a glass of brut to celebrate the publication of my book next week, and the house still (tap) water. The "snack" (hors oeuvre) was two bites. One was the best thing hubby has ever eaten that was made out of beets (which he doesn't usually like). The other was a light green puree with trout roe that made me exclaim out loud. Then we got three kinds of bread (breadsticks, sourdough, brioche) but didn't want to fill up on it. What we didn't eat was packaged it up for breakfast and lunch the next day. The brioche was realllly good, especially with the house-made butter (even the next day--the sourdough didn't keep well). I didn't finish the take on French onion soup, because I didn't think the onions were caramelized enough; however, hubby prefers his onions less cooked and liked it. The quail ravioli came in a sauce that didn't have enough salt, but it was balanced if eaten with the pasta. Next, the "black course" was a two-bite squid ink beignet with rabbit in the center. The protein was a really excellent 3 ounces of beef with two sauces. Then came a palate cleanser that was the best tasting "green drink" we've ever had (mint, lime, cucumber, and some other things). Between that and the dessert--the silkiest chocolate tart imaginable--the dinner was worth it. The last chef's table we did (for Valentine's Day) had portions that were too large. These were just right (although I did have to take my bonus madeleine home, since I was full by that point). Staff are attentive but let you enjoy the meal. The setting is industrial with a side of woodsman-naturalist. The music was loud but fun. My only real critique is that the restaurant is located inside Beehive Distillery, so when we arrived via Google Maps, we thought we were at the wrong building, and I had to double-check the address. Otherwise, 5 stars, would do again for a fancy occasion.

After a conversation, they assure me they can make dishes without mushrooms. Wonderful. I order the wine pairing to go with the meal. In this conversation I ask them multiple times if I should leave. They ask me: "how bad are your allergies?" I explain I can't eat mushrooms- but I do have an epi pen. I have the first drink and appetizer. They bring out the bread (which is a course on their menu). It's been an hour. They pour my second glass, but as my dish for it hasn't arrived, I don't partake of it. The waiter comes back (its now after 9 pm) and tells me they can't accommodate me due to my allergies. Can I please pay $70 for the wine tasting and leave? The wine tasting you didn't serve me? Yes, its Utah state law. I look up the law. It's not. They charge me for the two glasses they have poured - the second which I never took a sip from. They somehow changed their version of what the law is? Very disappointed. Its a good thing my hotel was still serving food. I skipped lunch to come to this place. I was really looking forward to it based on the reviews.

Someone ordered an Americano (from the menu) to which she said they didn't have espresso... she ended up bringing the Americano to him without any explanation. It was just a little odd. Someone ordered the deviled eggs as an appetizer, and they were good, but I wouldn't order them again. A lot of people ordered the burger, which was overcooked for almost every person and definitely didn't seem like wagyu beef. The steak sandwich I got (pictured) was good, but it came with lettuce that had really long stems. I don't particularly enjoy eating stems, so that's as annoying. The rest of my food was delicious. For appetizers we got some salads which I didn't eat but they got completely eaten! We also ordered pizza which was amazing, 10/10 would recommend the pizza. The biscuits were also phenomenal, a true delight to devour. For entrees Shae ordered scallops, an excellent choice! I tried one and wish I could have had another 6! The photo of my hot honey chicken does not do the dish justice. Normally it is served with a bunch of vegetables but I'm just a boy. The hot honey and the chicken were amazing though, I would definitely recommend. I should have paid closer attention to the chef's name at the top of the menu because he did a superb job! Truly some inspired dishes, I can't wait to be back! There is a medium sized parking lot in the back of the restaurant and the ambiance is so good that if you have good company you can easily spend 2 hours enjoying your meal! HSL is a true gem!

We joined them for a Valentine's Weekend dinner so of course the place was busy but we were able to secure a reservation in advance for our table for two. It felt like a very young and vibrant place when we arrived and the lighting is dim. We were promptly greeted and welcomed by Samantha our server. She made our evening special. Their wine and cocktail menu is quite expansive so there are many options for libations. We brought a bottle of our own favorite red wine to enjoy with a $25 corkage fee added. They were offered a special menu this weekend due to the holiday so we tried some special items not normally available. We started with the beets as a shared salad. Fresh red and yellow beets mixed with silver queen cheese and a light vinaigrette dressing. Very fresh and tasty. For our entrees we ordered the scallops with parsnips and the shrimp panzanella. Both of this dishes hit the WOW factor. The portions were sizable and while each dish was very different they shared flavors that just popped. We ran out of room and didn't get a chance to try dessert but they have a few items on the menu that sounds yummy.

Such a fun restaurant and vibe for special occasions!!! They even made a special menu with our names!!! We started off with a Sauvignon Blanc for me and a Zero Prosecco for my husband. We also shared the Heirloom Tomato Tartine for an appetizer. Absolutely delicious!! For our main meals my husband got the H and H Burger with a veggie patty and side salad. I went with the Iceberg Wedge, minus the onions. Again, delicious!! Hiro brought us a special anniversary dessert, a chocolate mousse with a sparkler on top!!! Wonderful way to end the meal!! We will definitely come back!! I really like how attentive they are to dietary restrictions and how they kept checking on us to make sure we liked our food and if we needed anything else. Hiro never disappeared!!

The décor is warm, modern, and sophisticated, with a contemporary yet cozy feel that makes it a very inviting place to relax and enjoy an evening. Unfortunately, this visit was a bit disappointing from a culinary standpoint. My ahi tuna did not seem as fresh as I would have expected, and the burger was less than impressive. It was slightly overcooked, and the patty was quite thin, lacking the quality and flavor that the beautiful setting promises. On the positive side, the service was attentive, professional, and genuinely friendly throughout our meal. Heart & Hill has all the ingredients to be a standout destination. A stronger focus on the quality of the meat and a more substantial burger would go a long way toward matching the excellent atmosphere they have created.
