Went here for a late Father's Day dinner. I've been wanting to come back after coming here for an event a few years back and remember the food being amazing. The restaurant is beautiful with fancy light up menus which is needed because it's pretty dark inside. I ordered the beef ribs and my husband ordered the picanha. Both came out extremely tough and chewy. My daughter had to spit out her bite because she got tired of chewing so we had to cut each piece into 1/2 cm pieces for it to be palatable. I've been to Brazilian steak houses before and beef ribs are usually the most tender and flavorful especially when there is bone. The server did say it was going to on the chewy side but I didn't think he was serious. Like why would you make meat intentionally chewy? For a $50 dish that came with no sides and worse than what we've made at home it's pretty disappointing. We also ordered a side of the grilled veggies which had some veggies that were so bitter and others that were undercooked and no seasoning. The purple yams were decent and the coquettes but again the pricing for each was exorbitant. Also because they have a somewhat open kitchen style concept the dining room got extremely hot and we were just dying to get out quickly. For two entrees, two sides, one app, a bottle of water and glass of wine a bill of $225 was not worth it. Sadly not a great experience. read more

We came by for dinner tonight and honestly, the food first of all was so mid. The cheese and tomato dish that they recommended had no flavor and the cheese was so hard. The pork belly was the best out of the 5 appetizers that we ordered. My friend ordered an espresso martini and did not like it so she asked for it to be replaced. He took the drink and came back and said they would still have to charge us. We said if you're gonna charge for the drink, then we will take it back. He said they already threw it away. Huhhh??? So you threw away a drink we had to pay for and you can't comp it? Manager comes out and instead of de escalating the situation, he made it way worse. He said it was Utah's law and we said we're not from Utah how would we know the law. They should have told us before and it would not have been an issue. When my friend said she wanted another one, they should have said you can have another one but we would still have to charge for this one. We would have kept the drink and ordered another one for her. He started repeating himself and instead of just taking accountability, he tried to blame us and tell us to calm down and say stuff like "I don't need to calm down. This is my house." We said if this is your house, we are your guests and you are not treating us like that whatsoever. We were about to walk out but he said we need to pay the bill. Fair enough. But only for the stuff we ate and what's on the table so none of the entrees. So we asked for the tab quickly (as we are not trying to stay a minute longer) and we raised our finger to get someone's attention, AS PEOPLE NORMALLY DO, and this man goes "they are not your slave" bro what??? People normally raise their hands and wave their fingers to get servers attention. After that, we paid and left. Anyways, never come here if you want a perfect experience. Libertango is a hidden gem in a parking lot across from South Towne Mall. When you step inside you are taken away to a romantic, dark little hideaway. The decor is very well done and unexpected from the outside. Everything we had was delicious, although, as a "seed-oil free" person, there were not many options for me. The waiter did a great job at recommendations for the table and worked to find out what I could eat without seed oils. Hopefully they will make the switch over to using more tallow, avocado or olive oil in the future, but I was happy with what I ordered. read more

Had a fabulous time at Libertango! Three of us came in to celebrate my dad's birthday and it was a night to remember. Definitely one of the best meals I've had since I've been in Utah! The interior is nice with light up menus that are pretty cool. The menu has a nice variety of selections between appetizers, salads, a la carte steaks and sides, plus grill master selections. The beverage menu offers a range of cocktails, mocktails, spirits, wine, etc. I ordered a tequila sour off the bat and it was excellent. My dad also enjoyed his wine selection. For an appetizer, we started with the Table Smoked Provoleta Dehumada which is not only tasty, but a nice show as you get to see them smoke it right in front of you. Very cool. For our mains, the three of us tried a variety of items. El Lomo: Filet, carrots, mashed potatoes and creamy chimichurri Colita de Cuadril: tri tip steak Bife de Chorizo: Wagyu New York strip Parrillada de Vegetales: selection of wood fired veggies Everything was excellent! No one had any complaints, our steaks were cooked to our liking and the veggies and mashed potatoes were very good. They also provide a variety of sauces for you to try to add to your steak. While it was fun to try a few, the meat was so flavorful it honestly didn't need any. For dessert, we ordered a cappuccino, a hot chocolate (with marshmallow, nutella, and graham crumbles), and the ice cream. It was the perfect ending to the meal. Service was attentive but not rushed, our plates were cleared seamlessly, steak knives delivered right on time, and our water was always full. My dear friend Celeste T. was celebrating her birthday and she absolutely deserves the best :) Nice to know that you don't have to drive to downtown for a fancy steak house. You don't even have to valet your car! At Libertango, their steaks are incredible, they have a lovely wine selection, lots and lots of free parking outside and wonderful customer service. Three of us, each ordered the ribeye and it was perfect! Incredible smokey flavor, perfectly seasoned, and a juicy medium rare center is so mouth watering! They bring you a few different sauces to accompany your steak, all are flavorful and add variety to an already delicious steak. Check out their steak knives too, they even have those for sale LOL You will not be disappointed with their side dishes. Good variety of starches or vegetables. My personal favorite, coming from Hawaii, is their purple sweet potato mash. Sweeter than the regular mashed potatoes. If you have room for dessert, they offer lovely options. We were too full and had so much left over from the generous portions. Also, if you don't see what you want on the drink menu, just inquire. The knowledgeable bartender can likely mix it up for you :) Now, I've been fortunate enough to dine here twice. To put things to the test, a friend was visiting from another state and has had many steaks to compare. I ordered the lamb chops this time and he ordered the ribeye....said it was "pretty darn good." From the moment we walked in the door and were met with the aroma of fire grilled steak, to after our meal was finished tonight, all I could really say was "Wow!" Before I talk about anything else I HAVE to mention the crepes. We had the dulce de leche crepe, and let me tell you, it was truly the most amazing crepe I've ever had. Better than any crepe I've had from restaurants that only serve crepes. It was a little more fluffy like a pancake and it melts in your mouth almost like it's cotton candy. That combined with the house made syrup and the dulce de leche makes for literally one of the best desserts I've ever had. Do NOT sleep on dessert here. Now, as far as the rest of the food goes, everything was incredible, and the service just as good. Within literally 30 seconds of walking in the building, we were sat, received water, and had bread on our table. We ordered the rib eye and New York strip, both of which were the 16 ounce Wagyu cuts. I've had a fair amount of steak at this price point, and I've never had any this good. Both steaks were medium rare and the best way I can describe them is to liken them into the little gusher fruit snacks. The steaks each had a slight crunchy exterior layer, with an eye watering BURST of flavor on the inside. Our favorite of the two was the New York strip, as it was slightly less fatty. They also provide a selection of 5 different sauces you can use with your steak. We chose the mango chutney and guava bbq sauce. Both were very good, but the steak alone is so incredible the sauces almost seem to take away from the experience. We also got the table smoked cheese as an appetizer (which involves a great table presentation) then the crème corn and guava bacon jelly fries as sides. The corn may not look very appetizing, but don't let looks deceive you, the moment you take a bite it's like you have just taken a bite of the worlds freshest and juiciest corn on the cob and the fries were almost more like a dessert than a side, which is not a bad thing by any means. Opening weekend for les Miserables at the Eccles Theatre and my Birthday so we decided to try Libertango Steakhouse in Sandy prior to the show. First, Les Mis, was fantastic, the actor playing Jean Valjean was outstanding! His rendition of "Bring Him Home" was something to see and brought the house down with quality of his voice and the emotions of the song. And that last note was so strong and so pure. Now to review Libertango. What a great little Steakhouse in a strip mall in Sandy. It is a $$$$ Steakhouse and a little on the expensive side, $200 for two people, two steaks, one of which was wagyu, two basic sides an appetizer and desert to share. We started with the Provoleta Dehumada and paid an extra $7 to have it "smoked" at the table, which was fun. (See pictures) the infused smoke added to the flavor, but I thought the cheese was a little lacking, and I really like cheese. 4/5 stars The rolls they provided were really good with chimchuri sauce and herb butter. 4/5 For sides we tried the Crema de Maiz Dehumada - creamed corn and it was so good, would recommend. 5/5 Puré de Papas . Mashed Potatoes, very creamy with a little tang, probably horseradish, was also very good. 4/5 But the star of meal is the steaks! I ordered the wagyu 16 oz Picanha - Cap of Rump, medium rare, cooked to perfection and so flavorful. The size of the steak and fat cap was generous and really added to the flavor. The only problem was that the left side of my steak was all grizzle, I couldn't chew it up to swallow. I almost never send back a steak, but for a $60 wagyu steak to be grizzly I had to say something. There may have been a language barrier as they didn't seem to know what grizzly meant but once I spoke to the manager he offered to replace my steak for me. These things happen and it's how they are handled that matters. And they handled it with grace and class and brought me out another steak that was amazing. 5/5 stars. My wife had the Corazon de Cuadril - Tri-tip steak. And it was amazing. But had to go to the 14 oz size to get it cooked medium rare. It was too much steak for her and she wished the 10oz came in MR, but was only offered in med and above. The good news is more leftovers. 5/5 For desert Panqueque de Manzana Verde - flambéed, open-faced green apple crepe. Loved it. 5/5 They offer 5 different dipping sauces for the steaks. Our favorites being the pepper and onions, kind of a pico de gallo, almost fajitas flavor, the gorgonzola always good on steak, and an orange chimchuri like sauce that we liked. The other two were bbq, not so much for me, and a cinnamon apple that was good but a little too sweet. Personal the best bites were the steak alone, but the steaks are big enough that a few bites with the sauces was fun. Pretty disappointed with my overall experience here. With the (over) hype on social media, I decided to book a dinner reservation for a birthday. I called two weeks in advance to book a table. When we arrived, they had no record of the reservation which was disappointing. Luckily, it was pretty empty so they seated us regardless. In a relatively empty restaurant (only three other parties there), they sat us by the drafty, cold table by the glass exit door. I asked if we could be moved to a warmer location which they did. Once we were seated, they provided us with menus. Pretty cool that they light up as the ambiance of the place is darker. However, there aren't many sides to choose from. Regardless we got the corn and fries. Our sides came out with our steaks so it defeated the purpose of an appetizer or opener dish. The corn looked squished and was cold, almost like it came from a can. The table comes with free bread which was nice but nothing to write home about. We had a nice waiter that refilled our basket once. They brought out sauces for the steaks but to be honest it wasnt clear what was what. We asked for our steaks to be cooked medium and one was completely raw in the center. Not rare but raw and squishy. Really unappetizing for $68 a steak. Halfway through the dinner, the kitchen was smoking so heavily it wafted into the dining hall and the room got pretty foggy. After leaving, our clothes reeked like a campsite the rest of the night. Overall, given the Argentinian and Brazilian influences i expected the steaks to be incredibly flavorful but was pretty disappointed in the lack there of. It seems like they dont marinate the meat that long and besides salt and pepper there was no obvious flavor to our meal. Went here for my birthday dinner last week. We usually go to Ruth's Chris. I must say it doesn't hold a candle to RC. For me and my husband it was $174 and we had water to drink. I got the filet mignon and the inside was perfect but the outside had a charcoal crust which was really hard to get past. The dull steak knife they give you would not power through the charcoal crust without some work. I don't know about you but crunching on charcoal with a filet is quite a turn off!! The potatoes were really yummy tho. My husband had the pork chop and it was very underwhelming. I asked if they do something for birthdays and the co waiter didn't know. Then about 5 min later our waiter brought out a very small dish of ice cream with some horrible hard pink strawberry flavored marshmallow things on top. Luckily we ordered a crepe (which was so-so) cause the free ice cream was icy and not enough to share how you get a real dessert off the menu at RC! False advertisement online for their operating hours. Tried calling their mainline several times no one answers. We left them voicemails and we made a reservation online. We get to the restaurant & they have a grace period of 15 minutes, but it took us a couple of minutes going around the building knocking on doors since everything was locked to finally have someone finally come to the door making us 17 minutes after the reservation time. We're on vacation and we made plans to go to dinner afterwards. We were technically on time except they locked their building so no one was coming to the door for a couple of minutes hence making us "past the grace period" They claimed to call us and text us, but we received no messages after going through our phone history. Online it says that they take reservations up to 1015 which we were before that time and the restaurant closes at 10:30 but again we were there 30 minutes before closing. Staff offered to sell us empanadas not steak which was the main reason of going because they decided to shut down their fire to cook food on a Saturday night early before the listed time on Google. Which means they turned off their fire way before our reservation was even to take place. They have no intention of accepting the reservation. We also saw all the staff sitting at the bar hanging out versus keeping the restaurant open, which is extremely unprofessional. It looks like they decided to takeoff early cause it was a Saturday night. read more

I was originally introduced to Libertango Steakhouse for a Yelp Elite event, and based on that experience, I made it a point to return for a nice meal with my wife. We booked reservations online and made our way over to dinner. Service was just as fabulous as I remembered. We had a couple servers who took our orders, brought us food and refilled our water. Everyone we interacted with was pleasant and attentive. We each ordered a different steak so we could try them both. The flavor on both was great, although my wife prefers steak to be cooked pretty well and it was a bit undercooked. I think that's just a personal preference, and our leftovers can be heated up on the stove to cook them through just a bit more. Best local steak you'll find! Libertango is an Argentinian restaurant that started in Brazil. We have been twice and the steaks here are hands down the best you'll find from a local restaurant in Utah. Wood-fired and cooked to perfection. Multiple sauces are offered for the steak too, which is fun. The interior is absolutely gorgeous. This is an awesome fine dining option, albeit the area is a bit odd. Service is top notch and the inside is just so classy! Make sure you save room for dessert because we are obssessed with their Pera al vino dessert! The red wine sauce is so unique and delicious, pairs well with the pear and ice cream. Ask for extra ice cream, you'll want more for this dessert. Presentation is stunning too. I visited last night with my fiancé, hoping for an enjoyable meal. I understand that restaurants can have off days, and consistency is key. We started with the cheese, which was average, and the empanadas--the filling was flavorful, but the dough texture could have been better; I've experienced superior versions elsewhere. Our server recommended the salmon, and when I inquired about the preparation, he mentioned it was grilled. However, sitting near the grill, I noticed a lighter fluid smell from the Argentine grill, and the fish arrived overcooked with a burnt, lighter fluid taste. The tomato rice was soggy and lacked seasoning. As the owner-chef is from Brazil, perhaps focusing on Brazilian cuisine could highlight strengths. We went to Libertango after another appt we tried was just too busy. The place is beautiful but I'm not sure about the backlit menus (too bright). I ordered the short ribs and after asking how the chef would like it cooked she said medium well as to keep it tender and fall off the bone. Outs came out and it was rare and tough. It was probably 50% fat and not edible fat but tough and not rendered down at all. The worst part was the shards of bone all over the meat. We ate half of one rack and wouldn't touch the rest. The empanada that we ordered was ok but nothing to crave about. My wife was not very hungry so she ordered the veggie side and it was ok but not worth $18. In all it was way too expensive and the food totally forgettable (or maybe I wish it was forgettable. You walk in and are greeted by a friendly staff member and the seating to wait isn't too bad. Once we got seated right away our servers were very attentive. My water was never empty as well as the drink I got on the side. We ordered the empanada criolla but with ribeye as it was a special that day and the meat MELTED in your mouth. I forgot to take a picture but this empanada was so worth it. It wasn't extremely large but good for 2 people maybe if you're waiting to fill up. They also give you a bread basket with seasoned butter. I ordered the Fettuccine Mar del Plata and the shrimp were very tasty! The pasta itself was mid but this is a steakhouse so you come here for steak. I'd suggest ordering meat instead of pasta. The steak my husband ordered was Ojo de bife (ribeye) 16oz American wagyu. When I said it melted in your mouth, I mean it was TENDER! There were 5 sauces given as well to eat with it. Not as if it's really needed. The sauces were tasty as well. We also got the side of tomato rice which was all it sounds like. It was good but nothing extravagant and I'd suggest getting a little more interesting side. Finally we ordered the panqueque de dulce de leche which was so yummy. Not super filling when you share it but we were already so full. The inside caramel reminded me of cajeta which I love! I spoke with the owner and discussed the issues I had and she agreed that my issues were indeed valid and I was offered a sincere and genuine apology along with a generous gift certificate to return and indicated changes would be made to their reservation policy so my main issue would not longer be as confusing as it was. The overcharge was addressed and changes would be made to their special menus for Valentine's Day as well as other special holidays that would require a special menu to avoid the kind of confusion that ensued with me. I was also informed their lack of communication with me stemmed from an family emergency which required immediate attention. Libertango was such a unique experience for a dinner night with my friends. This used to be my other favorite restaurant in the whole world, Corelife. However, Libertango transformed it into something completely different. You would never guess that it used to be a fast casual restaurant. Upon walking into Libertango, we noticed they had the most expensive liquors on display, they had plenty of seating, and the place was just so decked out with their own twist on the restaurant. I loved seeing all the cool stuff around. We got seated pretty quickly, as a party of 6. Part of the vibes within Libertango include almost complete darkness. It is not a bright Corelife Eatery in there anymore. In fact, it is so dim, that the freaking menus LIGHT UP! They really know how to add elements to make it an unforgettable experience. For the food itself, we got quite a few things. We essentially did a huge family style order so that we could all try a bunch of their stuff. For starters, we got the empanadas and the Provoleta Dehumada. Both had great presentation and tasted great. We couldn't decide on pastas so we got the Spaghetti la Recoleta and the Fettuccine Mar del Plata. The Spaghetti la Recoleta was kind of odd and not worth it in my opinion. It was lacking in flavor and there wasn't a very good noodle:sauce ratio--they needed a bit more sauce and I think it would've helped to have the noodles cooked with the sauce a bit more. The Fettuccine Mar del Plata was much better and had a lot better flavor and ratio. The fries had lots of seasoning on it, as you can tell by the picture. They were good but definitely don't need that much salt and whatnot. The steaks were all really good and we enjoyed trying all the different styles and cuts that Libertango offers. I paid over $300 for this night but we were not expecting a cheap dinner so this is by no means a complaint--just being transparent with the pricing. I would definitely go back and I would keep it in mind for my next fancy night out--it is just definitely a delicacy. I don't think you can go wrong with anything you order here, everything we had was top notch. The dessert selection is also pretty AMAZING. We tried 3 different ones and you can not come here without trying the *Panqueque de Manzana Verde- flambéed, open-faced green apple crepe. It's like a flat crêpe apple pie grilled with bourbon. It's FIRE. * The Empanada dessert is not on the menu, So make sure you ask about it. It's one of a kind. It's filled with marmalade agave and mozzarella accompanied by a citrus honey dipping sauce . it has a flaky crispy crust. I am a huge fan of agave and empanadas. What a wonderful creation. Libertango Steakhouse is a fantastic steakhouse. The steak was so delicious I loved to let every bite sit in my mouth so I could enjoy the flavor before I ate it. This is an à la carte menu restaurant meaning your steak does not come with any sides. The side portions are big enough that you can share. The steaks comes with five different sauces to try out. The smallest steak is 10 ounces so this is a lot of food for your money. Don't let the strip mall location fool you into thinking this is not worth the visit. read more

I took my family gathering of 11 to Libertango for dinner. It's a brand-new space with very high ceilings and widely-spaced tables. While most of the surfaces in the space are hard, it wasn't noisy and we had no trouble talking. The space also isn't austere. The walls are decorated with beautiful paintings of dancers performing the tango. We were greeted at the door by the owner. He continued to provide information about the restaurant and the food throughout our dinner. Our party had two servers who were both excellent. They clearly enjoy their work. But we were there for steak. Even before we arrived, I had checked out the menu and decided to have the 18 ounce wagyu picanha, which is a cut that I only see in Brazilian and, now, Argentinian steakhouses. However, the owner talked me into trying the asado de tira (aka short rib), which is cut across the bone like Portuguese costela de vaca or Korean kalbi. I've eaten a lot of short rib and have to say that Libertango's is the best grilled short rib that I've ever had. It's seasoned simply with salt and grilled over screaming hot wood coals to medium rare, and is the epitome of beefy deliciousness. I also got to taste the picanha, because my daughter sat next to me and we shared our food. It, too, was seasoned simply with salt and grilled perfectly to medium rare, and the fat cap was just as crispy and delicious as it looked. We tried several of the appetizers, including the morcilla (aka blood sausage), the provolenta dehumada (aka smoked provolone cheese), the empanada criolla and the burrata, which were all delicious. The desserts were all quite good, as well. The kids enjoyed the alfahores de dulce de leche (aka caramel cookie), the pera al vino (aka wine-poached pear) was beautiful and the dulce de leche porteño (aka caramel with mozzarella cubes) was unusual. I'm pretty sure that the cheese was actually manchego, though. Bottom line: Libertango serves the best steaks that I've had in Utah. read more

FINALLY some authentic Argentinian cuisine!!! Not only is the place super elegant And classy, but the food is AMAZING. Trust me... my partner is from Argentina and he's super picky with his food... and he gives it two thumbs up! Argentinian approved.
