Sat at the bar and had one of the best burgers I've had in a long time. It was cooked perfectly, really well balanced, and clearly made with quality ingredients, not just a big, sloppy pub burger. Sometimes simple food is the hardest to get right, and they absolutely nailed it. The bar service was friendly, attentive without hovering, and made the experience feel relaxed and welcoming. The atmosphere is refined, which is exactly what I want when I'm grabbing a great meal and a drink at the bar. I'll definitely be back, and that burger alone is reason enough. read more

I did not expect a place like this from a strip mall location. It's unassuming on the outside. But step inside... Classy, calm, beautiful decor, and great vibe. This place would work great for an intimate, romantic dinner. It also worked well for our group of ten. Service was timely and unobtrusive. The server was able to move around and fill drinks, serve food, and check on us without interrupting any of the conversation. Steaks and scallops were prepared perfectly. Everyone at the table had requested different levels and each one was done right. We all loved the garlic and mushroom on the steaks. The only complaint was there wasn't mustard available for the lone cheeseburger order. Toro Steak is going to become a regular favorite. read more

We found this place by accident and it totally paid off!! Ambiance and food were top tier!! If you want good food, good service, without the hassle of an overpacked downtown crowd this is your place. Our visit was a mixed bag. We were grateful to find a reservation after our initial plan fell though for Mother's Day. Nate, our server was amazing! Positive energy, great knowledge of the food and welcome recommendations. The food itself was unfortunately very middle of the road. My wife ordered a steak which was good, but our homemade mashed potatoes are better than what was served. The texture was like it had been through a ricer but still quite lumpy. They also had a some sort of flavor we couldn't identify. Not to mention they look like they were scooped from an ice cream scoop and felt very cafeteria. The gravy was thick like a jelly, seemed packaged and nasty. She also ordered the asparagus which didn't feel like it was blanched properly. They were squishy, but tasted fine. The sesame sauce was quite good. I ordered a burger which came out initially soggy. It was not edible. Nate got a new one out for me though. The bun was toasted in a way I'd never had before, which was an interesting and welcome surprise. Dessert was good with a lava cake and a creme brulee cheesecake. As for ambiance, it felt dated. Tables were too close and we were left to listen to the very loud, obscenity laced and vulgar guest behind my wife. Not the restaurant's fault, but still not pleasant in a fairly small space. But we did visit with the guests next to us which we enjoyed. In the end, the restaurant comp'd my dinner and dessert which I was willing to pay for but also appreciated. I had such an amazing experience at Toro Steak and Cocktails and I can't recommend it enough! From the moment we walked in, our waitress, Tuul, greeted us with the most beautiful, genuine smile. She was incredibly warm and friendly, and you could immediately tell she truly cares about her guests. She personally walked us back to our private room, which made the experience feel extra special. I had called the day before to ask if we could decorate for a special occasion, and they were more than happy to accommodate us--encouraging us to bring whatever we needed. That level of flexibility and kindness already set the tone, but when we saw the room, we were blown away. It was elegant and chic--the tan leather chairs, crisp white tablecloths, and soft table lamps created such a cozy, upscale, and intimate atmosphere. It felt private, comfortable, and perfect for celebrating. We were welcomed with hot, fresh bread and honey butter, which was absolutely delicious and a perfect start. Throughout the entire evening, Tuul was AMAZING. She checked in on us frequently never too much, but always at the perfect moments making sure we had everything we needed. Her attentiveness, professionalism, and kindness truly elevated our experience. At one point, the owner stopped by our table to greet us, which was such a nice touch. He was incredibly welcoming, down-to-earth, and even brought some humor into the moment. He made us feel valued and appreciated, not just like customers, but like guests. Now the food WOW. Everything was cooked to absolute perfection. The steak, lobster, and shrimp were incredible. My parents ordered the ribeye, cooked medium well, and it came out sizzling hot and perfectly done. They were beyond pleased. The Caesar chicken salad was a huge portion fresh, crisp, and full of flavor. The calamari appetizer was delicious, perfectly cooked and seasoned. And the soups were also amazing rich, comforting, and full of flavor. To top it all off, Tuul surprised my parents with a little dessert to share for their anniversary, which was such a thoughtful and memorable touch. Overall, this experience was truly exceptional from the service, to the atmosphere, to the food. We will definitely be coming back soon. I like to consider Toro a minimalist steakhouse. While they do have some decor and ambience, it's a modern look that blends into the background. I appreciate that it's not over the top or obnoxious. When my wife and I visited, we were the only guests in the restaurant. Our server and the host sat behind the front counter, checking in on us occasionally to refill water, etc. The service wasn't super attentive, although it was friendly enough. Ordered the salmon salad (I know, not what most people go to a steakhouse for) and it was delicious! My wife ordered a steak and the flavor was terrific. I got to sneak the mushrooms since she doesn't care for them. They have a bar as well, so you can order an adult bevvy. Overall, it was a pleasant meal. I'm not sure it was incredibly memorable, but nothing bad either. We'll probably be back when we want a quiet, subdued meal without peanut shells on the floor or random line dancing in the aisles, if you know what I mean. ;-) read more

Went here w my guy while visiting him in SLC. He has to have A1 brand sauce for steak but we weren't sure they had it. They did! So he got a filet mignon and I got the bone in rib eye. Filet was nice and fat. Rib eye was a lil thinner than the ones I'm used to at vegas steakhouses, but it was perfectly cooked and delish. Mushroom sauce was great! Calamari appetizer was yummy (wish it had more tentacles) but good! I brought my own Chick Fil A squeeze bottle and the server got a kick out of it. Kept our drinks full and super sweet service. Not what you think when you see it driving by take the chance go in!! Great atmosphere high dining but not stuffy. Grey goose martini to start was amazing followed by Brussel sprouts recommended by our Waiter Jaxon who was very accommodating and attentive. They were yummy. The steak was thin, about 3/8" thick, cooked medium rare and seasoned well. There was a significant amount of fat and gristle. We went to Toro on Friday evening (11/22). 3 adults and 2 young children. Pro tip, make a reservation online to avoid a wait. We were greeted and quickly seated. Our server was very friendly, our kids loved her, and stopped by our table several times throughout our meal. Our 3 year old asked for rice instead of fries, which wasn't on the menu, but they made a bowl of rice for her. Talk about above and beyond! We each ordered a cocktail or wine with our meals. We ordered steaks with two sides. I enjoyed the steak, mashed potatoes, and asparagus. Good menu with plenty of variety. Great date night spot. We will go back again for the service and atmosphere. I went to this establishment with my family for a nice dinner because we wanted to try it and it appeared to be a nice environment. We were seated quickly but waited on the waiter forever which was inattentive throughout the whole visit. The food took an extended amount of time and honestly wasn't even that hot when it came out, the steak was pretty good quality but was a bit rough in some parts (that can't be the restaurants fault though), the price for the food was a bit higher for what it was, the mashed potatoes are terrible but the asparagus was really good and the baked potatoes which came with sour cream, cheese, and bacon was okay but for $6 I would never order that again. It took more than 30 minutes before our order was taken, by a host who wasn't our server. When we noticed others were getting food and attention we had to flag down our server to ask where our food was! It took another 20 minutes before we were about to walk out and again had to get our servers attention with a Raised voice no less. They had missed half of the items ordered, the appetizer was missing and showed up with our food, missing sides and all. They had tried to offer us some additional bread like that was a complimentary concession. No offer of apology. No offer to make up for their mistake and lack of caring. To add the insult, the only thing good was the Calamari. Ribeye was cold, as well as the salmon. Totally missed the baked potato we ordered. Ok.. I had high hopes for this place. Steak and cocktails?!! Who wouldn't want to visit ? We ordered the following: Calamari: this was 100% the best part of our meal. It was crispy and flavorful. The dipping sauce was so good. We'd rate this 5/10. This was the best dish of the evening. Ribeye steak: over powered with garlic and mushrooms. It was an average steak that you could find at any grocery store Lobster tail: over cooked, rubbery and just not all that great. Cocktails: Bloody Mary, old fashioned, Long Island; standard cocktails that are nothing to write home about Honestly.. I hate to say that I don't see this place staying open for another 6 months. A little over priced but the staff is trying very hard. They have not remodeled enough to get past the fact this is a former Denny's. Low booths do not provide any privacy. This was a very enjoyable dining experience. First impression walking in was very positive. It looked like a clean, modern, upscale restaurant. Biggest positives: the scallops were fantastic, and this is the first place I've been in forever that cooked my steak properly to medium rare. I usually just grin and bear the medium steaks that come out almost everywhere when I order medium rare, but they nailed it. The calamari was also very good and properly cooked (not rubbery). The breading is a bit thick and salty for my taste, but it had a great crunch and the sriracha mayo dipping sauce was great. The rest of the food was good, but not exceptional. The steak cuts are not high end, the mashed potatoes are fine but underwhelming...nothing to complain about, but nothing to say "wow" over either. That's pretty much how I would describe everything except the scallops, which I already noted were awesome. The service was very good and the price seems commensurate with what constitutes value these days. Five years ago I would have thought this very overpriced, but it's in line with other mid-upscale scale dining experiences these days (Kona Grill, Blue Fin, etc). I'm not going to penalize on stars just because I'm cranky and old enough to remember "the good old days." I should also mention the background music was great and set to an enjoyable volume. We could hear it, and we didn't have to shout at each other to hear over it. Perfect! If you don't mind dining early on weekdays, there's a happy hour special 4:30-6:00: buy one entree get one free. It doesn't apply to sides, appetizers, etc, but still a solid deal and helpful when you're spending $100+ for 2. read more

The server had no idea about table side manners for a "fine dining establishment" i.e. didn't take away old dirty appetizer plates when the entrée came out, didn't remove any of the table trash when she brought out the appetizers, over filled the water making a huge mess on the table. We ordered medium-well ribeyes that we had sent back to the grill because it was pure purple jelly when we cut into it. They topped the steak with canned mushrooms that had zero flavor and an insane amount of garlic. Side Mac and cheese was utterly mush. Zucchini was cooked nicely but had no seasonings; very bland. I had the side scallops with mine which were actually perfect. Shrimp cocktail tastes extra fishy and I worried we might get sick. The music was popmusic, we walked in and Mikey Cyrus was blasting.
