The prices are OUTRAGEOUS (a cup of tea is $6! a styrofoam bowl of chili is $13!), but they know that they have a captive audience, so what's to be done. We had the veggie chili a couple times, and honestly, it's not bad, though one day it came out barely warm). French fries can oscillate between being crispy and soggy. There's a decent selection of everything, but as the week progressed, one of us started packing her own snacks. The whole atmosphere looks like you walked into a 1980's cafeteria, but we found it cozy. We likely won't be back in Alta, so thanks for the memories, Albion Grill!

I tried the hollandaise steak sauce and it did not taste scratch made, it tasted as if it was made from a packet. The salad was fresh but bland and underwhelming. Could have used more elements. I'd have preferred a salad bar. Our child enjoyed the kid's menu salmon skewer, served with lemon and tater tots. All in all, I liked our visit, the steak was great. My husband enjoyed the wine he tried and the waitress was one of the best we've met. Steak Pit is my preferred choice over The Aerie on top of The Cliff Lodge.

Turns out I was totally wrong to worry. Reservations are recommended. It's not the usual ski resort cafeteria. It's a classy sit-down place. You can even take off your ski boots and change into slippers. Made me feel pampered, like I was at a health spa or something. I was able to get some vegan carrot soup, which meant that it had been thickened with coconut cream instead of gluten-rich roux. Score! I didn't think I had the appetite to eat an entire salad, so I scanned the menu and decided that a plain chicken breast would be my protein for the meal. The rest of our group had sandwiches, salads and pasta. The menu seems to be mainly American/European, with very nice vegetarian and vegan options. I'd welcome a chance to go back there any time. It certainly wasn't a quick lunch, but it gave us all a chance to rest well before we headed back out into the whiteout conditions to conquer some waist-high moguls for the rest of the afternoon.

I was really excited to show my friends who traveled from out of state the saloon because I've so many memories there from over the years. In general, Alta has become much less accessible. They now *require* paid parking, which made the trip more disappointing (another new thing). Not only did I pay for parking, we got kicked out of the saloon after being there and paying for food. Nobody else in the saloon was confronted and a lot of people there were not guests. It felt weird that we were the only ones getting asked to leave. Additionally, they no longer allow refills for fountain drinks and also removed mountain collective/ikon pas discounts when buying food. The entire resort is behind a pay wall. The Alta magic is dead.

I had trouble with the elk meatball pasta. The balls were very tough and tasted gamey. The pasta wasn't thick pappardelle ribbons as noted on the menu, but rather thin like linguine. The $18+ dollar soups were anticlimactic (especially for the price) and needed more substance. The children's pasta was very salty and wasn't made with homemade pasta. The salmon entree looked beautiful on the plate however the fish was medium rare to rare and not as flaky as I hoped. The blue sauce had no actual flavor and was scant. The papaya salad was weird to say the least and tough. Possibly the worst plate of food had to have been the salad I've pictured, with some spotted radicchio. Super bitter and inedible. We sent it away and noticed the table next to us also complain about theirs. The other salad that we replaced it with was just okay and needed more elements. On a positive note, the staff were really friendly and polite and the complimentary bread with honey butter was delicious. My recommendation is to skip this restaurant and walk down to the Steak Pit.

The wagyu osso buco was good, very tender, but the seasoning/flavor was not superlative. I enjoyed the mushroom bolognese tagliatelle the most (it was the most flavorful, and was filling). The coconut gelato was absolutely fantastic (creamy, rich, yet vegan), but I believe I had the same gelato at SeventyOne so it's not solely available at the Aerie. A friend had dinner at the Aerie the evening before and was disappointed in the mushroom appetizer, celery veloute, and sea bass (which she said was overcooked). So it's possible I enjoyed dinner also because my expectations were tempered. The ambiance is terrific with the tremendous windows and view Service was reasonably attentive, especially the sommelier Given the price/value alone I'd probably rate 3.5 but the ambiance bumps it to a 4
