Wait staff was very disorganized, disconcerened. We asked for a burger to go for a sick friend as we were in a hurry to get food to her. I went to the counter ordered, helped an elderly couple into the building. Looked at the cashier that took my order less the 2 minutes ago. She held a drink up and said your order is ready. I told her I had a burger. She then asked for a reciept, I told her she didn't give me one. She fumbled for another 10 minutes. Then I told her it didn't take us this long to order, eat and pay my bill. After a total of just under 20 yes 20 minutes, we got our burger. We live in Ocala and decided to try this a few months ago for breakfast. I was impressed with how clean the eating area was considering they are open 24/7. Breakfast was great. We've since gone back for that. We tried lunch this week and the new steakburger. It was perfectly cooked, the service was great, but the downfall is the restrooms. They desperately need updating and cleaner. Makes me think twice about what I am eating when I see what the bathrooms look like. I have loved the waitresses we've had and they work so hard. The food is good, but they make it how they want to, not how you ask for it. The shakes are always a problem though, it happened three times now; the chocolate shakes taste like fruits. It's like they don't rinse the blender or something, and they try to blame it on the cherry, but the cherry is on top of the whip cream so that makes no sense. read more

I have visited this location many times, most recently yesterday. I gave it 2 stars because the burger was good and that was the only reason. We were seated promptly as there were many vacant tables and we were served our drinks quickly and our order was taken. It went downhill from there. We both ordered the "4 for 4" special. Note that the table next to us had a stack of dirty dishes on the table. In what seemed like a very long time, some of the food we ordered was delivered. Our dinner was suppose to include coleslaw, which we had to ask for as well as a milkshake. The coleslaw was delivered without the milkshake which I had to ask for again. We also had no utensils to eat our lunch with and had to ask for those too. The person who ordered the milkshake was unable to finish it and asked for a takeout cup. I went to the restroom and upon my return I had to ask for the cup again while the waitress who served us was socializing with coworkers. The bathroom was in desperate need of attention and the floor in front of the serving window was littered with food and misc trash. And you know that table which I mentioned was covered with dirty dishes next to us? Those dishes were still sitting there as we left our table to leave. read more

Overall I enjoyed my experience at Steak n' Shake, however there were some key points that were quite unenjoyable. To start off I walked in, sat down, and was greeted with a hair on the tip of my ketchup bottle. From here I noticed a quite unpleasant smell in the bathroom as well as an overflowing trashcan. While the service was fast, there were quite a few mistakes made. Beginning with the (dee)lusional waitress who gave wrong table numbers and an extra pepsi that we did not order. She even forgot my parmesan and herb french fry seasoning. All the while the other waitress was talking crap and even complaining about working too many hours. Finally in an effort to avoid getting more tables the check was hidden under napkins leaving us in curiosity. Was my first visit to this food chain, the wait staff was very nice. This location was busy and packed. They took a while to take our orders but was disorganized. The order took between 45 min to an hour to deliver our order. I did call and complain to management. They did call and ask what happened and apologize for the poor service. I will give the chain another chance to see if it was the location or the chain. The burgers were small and extremely thin, so a triple would be the equivalent to another chains regular burger. read more

WOW has this place gone downhill! The food has gotten to the point where it is inedible. Its always been a bit greasy, but it is out of control at this point. The produce they use is horrible if its not rotten. The service with a couple of exceptions is horrendous, and that goes all the way up through the management (Tip: go to an In N Out Burger and learn how you are supposed to treat your customers). I've gone several times in the past year and had the same disappointment each and every time. With it being one of the only "quick" (LOL) restaurants open late on this side of town I've gone to bed hungry, rather than deal with the whole Steak N Shake experience. You may ask "WhyTwo Stars then"? - It's only because I want to believe in my head that it used to not always be this way. Another quick note They use Roger Ebbert as their "celebrity spokesperson", I have absolutly nothing against the man and am very happy that he was able to make a full recovery, but the man has no jaw and can no longer eat solid food, so maybe that should tell you something. read more

I miss the Steak-N-Shakes that we used to go to in Missouri so i decided to walk over to this one next to the Fairfield Inn where I was staying. I asked to be seated at the Bar as I was by myself.. and Sarah immediately took my order. As I was waiting for my food i decided to check Yelp to see how they rated this place... and notice that it wasnt rated very good...after reading a couple 1 and 2 star comments about dirty floors and bathrooms, i started to look around the place and noticed that they definitely needed to pay more attention to cleanliness, especially at the waiters counter / bus station. I did not venture into the bathroom but I am sure this was not any better. As for the food... well the burgers still task good and the shakes are outstanding... I love the Sea Salt and Vinegar fries... Long story short... stick with the drive through if you can... and to the General Manager... pay closer attention to cleanliness especially where your customers can see. read more

This "dive" gets one star because I can't leave zero!! First off, my in-laws order their #1 shakes in country. No cherries, so my in-laws inquire about it and waitress responded "we don't use cherries anymore". Our meals took 30 minutes to arrive. No silverware or napkins. When we asked the waitress told us she could give us two sets but they ran out of knives and forks!!! Finally I ordered two shakes to go for my wife and I. After 20 minutes of waiting I went to register and cancelled. This place was unbelievably slow on a Saturday night. Every table full with several waiting on food. It took 50 minutes to get three hamburgers to our table and five hamburgers to two other tables. Another table with 4 adults and 3 kids waited at least 40 minutes. Another table of 9 left after about 20 minutes with only shakes. Our waitress was very apologetic but the manager was not sending anything from the grill to the seated customers. In 50 minutes I saw maybe 25 meals come out to the floor including our meals. The rest was going to the drive through. There was one car in the drive through when we arrived so it wasn't like cars were piling up. Unbelievable. Right off the highway, Steak n Shake is a popular choice for fast food. Unfortunately this restaurant is anything but fast. You really can't even call it slow. It's SSSLLLOOOWWWW. We literally sat in the drivethru with 6 cars in front us, and it took 45 minutes to get through! I get the whole "milkshakes made to order" thing, but any other Steak n Shake I've been to averages 3 minute a vehicle or less. Once in the line I couldn't even escape to go somewhere else, so each car I felt "maybe this'll speed up". Nope, never happened. Sadly I love Steak 'n Shake when I'm on the road back and forth to Georgia and Florida, but won't visit this location again. read more

I don't understand the negative comments. This place was busy, however employees did their best to serve us. Yes we waited for our food, but when you cook food to order and make shakes with fresh ice cream, yes it's going to take a while! The employees cleaned the table and floor as soon as they were able. Understand if you want fresh, it's going to take an extra minute; you want fast, then choose the other restaurants who precook their food and the shakes come from from a machine. read more

On four separate occasions, each months apart, I have tried to eat at this location. Each time I have had poor service and left with only some or none of my food delivered. A manager once told us they were too busy to make our shakes and removed them from the bill. We have gone as a group and only half the group received any food. This last, and I assure you final, visit we waited to be sat, then waited ten minutes for a waiter. Trying to get anyone's attention was fruitless. The three people waiting tables were all busy making tea and complaining about the POS system. Absolutely appalling to see this place falling so hard to mainy standards. read more

The service at this location is terrible. Staff look disinterested and depressed. I went with three small children around noon today. It was a little crowded, but not sure why we has to wait 25 minutes for kid's meals and a burger. I asked for a refill on my pop and never got it. I had to ask for my check. I heard servers talking about customers and tip amounts. So unprofessional. Also, our server had her thumb almost touching my burger when she put my plate down and then cleared others' dirty dishes with her thumb on the dirty plates.
