I grew up in Ocala and have not been back to this Steak n Shake in a very long time. It was nice to be back here again, there are not many of these where I am. You order through a kiosk so you rarely interact with people there unless they are handing you your food, the drink station is also self served. This was nice, but we came when a lot of people were coming in and there are only 4 or 5 kiosks, so ordering can take some time if there are people exploring a lot on the tablets and deciding what they want. The service was very quick, I ordered the chicken tenders and fries. The chicken tenders were okay, and the fries were pretty good. My food was not that warm when I got it, so if it was fresh I think it would have tasted a bit better. But otherwise, everything was what I expected. The place seemed pretty clean as well and the retro seating is always nice, its good to see that that hasn't changed.

I went through the drive-thru and received great customer service from the woman who took my order. It was quick and the food was hot. There's not much to say about this visit because it was quick. But, as long as you get your food hot and the customer service is on point then everything is A OK with me.

We were so grateful Steak & Shake was open so late. We were driving from St. Petersburg to Jacksonville. We stopped in Ocala to eat. Just off SW College Rd. Every other restaurant was closed. The lobby was 10 people deep. The drive thru was full as well. We were patient because we were hungry. Hubby ordered the Frisco Melt with Fries and a regular Kit Kat Shake. I ordered the kids chicken fingers with fries and Hi-C. Great thing is that they cook the food to order. It was hot. The FF were really small. Luckily, I don't eat French Fries so Hubby had enough. We sat in the parking lot enjoying our dinner. Thanks for serving us

Service was EXTREMELY slow and the food was mediocre. Seems like a chain in need of direction. Apparently the night we were there the shake machine was only manned by one employee and all the shakes were backed up over 45 min. When the staff was asked about it by multiple patrons dining in, the response was they have to make shakes for the drive through customers too. When paying the bill I took a look at the kitchen area and was shocked at how dirty it was. If I had seen it before sitting I would have walked out Would not go back again or recommend anyone go there.

Dry, bacon cheese burger. It's supposed to be a garlic double burger with bacon, cheese, pickles, and onions.

Meh the drive through is slow and attempting to eat off the $5 menu will leave you hungry and thirsty as those deals have no drinks.

We were on their bottom floor patio (which was lovely) but I did spy that they have a rooftop patio as well (what's not to love?!?). Everything from the food to the cocktails to the service was exemplary. For my cocktail I got their Old Colonel's Smoking Gun which was their twist on an old fashioned and was delightful. For my entree, I got their salmon entree. It's glazed and comes with a size of their crispy brussels and cheesy grits. The brussels were delish and their cheesy grits rank among some of the best I've had with sharp cheddar giving them the perfect flavor kick. The atmosphere was so pleasant. It's definitely the sort of spot you'll feel tempted to linger. Get to it!

Here's how it went. I wanted to love my paleo burger .. but my burger was very dry. I had it lettuce wrapped which they were quite generous with- a ton of lettuce and two thin patties with blah blah blah , but it was dry and they put the mustard on the burger that I asked for on the side. Bacon was not flavorful.. Both types of French fries (sweet potato and regular) were good--just the right crisp on the outside and soft o the inside. (I always ask for extra crispy because I strongly abhor soggy fries. The other burger was a regular barbecue beef burger and the one patty was not a lot. It is hard to spend almost 40 bucks not including tip for two burgers and fries . When I do I want it to be delicious and not have to fill up on fries The place was clean... out of forks.. not very inviting or warm. So if you want to drop in an uninviting place to grab an expensive burger -dry and bland burger. This is your place. I'm a little grumpier than usual because raising the prices should not include lower standards . With top-- 15 percent because they hand you a cup and bring your burger out... and you bus your own table... it was over 40 with the tip. For two burgers and fries. Tired of overpaying for regular food.

Yolanda was waiting at the order desk with a smile, greeting and a back story of their journey to Florida. She also went over the menu and was very precise in explaining specials, popular items, etc. Our group of four ordered 2 single patty burgers and 2 double patty burgers; all with fries and a drink. Please note, this is a CASH ONLY facility. If you don't have cash on hand, they do have an ATM on the property. As we found a seat and waited for our fresh made burgers, there is a GIANT screen TV playing great white shark documentaries to pass the time...Remeber, it's real food being cooked to order Also, I would encourage you to check out all the shark paraphernalia that adorns the walls. Burgers hot, fries crisp and drinks ice cold...we all dug in. Let me tell you, the 2 patty burger is fork and knife worthy! Juicy meat, soft bun and toppings crisp. Our table was silent for a good 2-3 minutes before anyone came up for air ... excellent burger for sure! Please be aware; you will be fully satisfied upon leaving and I guarantee you'll be back! There are a few tables outside, right by the door. There are signs that make it clear they are non smoking tables. We decided to eat inside, were seated right away and our server came quickly. She told us what some of the popular burgers were and we made our selections based on that. I had the Jamaican burger cooked medium. This burger was cooked perfectly, had good flavor, was topped with a sweet and spicy jerk sauce. It was everything that I expected. My friend had the Brie burger and his daughter had the smash burger and they both said those burgers were very good as well. Our server was attentive to our needs throughout our meal. I would definitely go back again.

Tonight was "trivia night", which, while we didn't play, we did enjoy trying to guess the answers. Our grand daughter's face was a big "O" of amazement when realizing the upper tables were enjoying roasting their marshmallows at their table...when she was told they were making s'mores...she went nuts! She's so excited to get tableside s'mores! My wings were even better than they were last time since there was an addition of seasonings sprinkled on them along with the dill pickles, but unfortunately, our cheeseburger pizza suffered from not having enough mustard and ketchup base to it, the tomatoes were enormous chunks and so were red onions. It made it very difficult to eat without things falling all over your clothing since they were such huge chunks on top of the tiny pieces of pizza. My husband got the steak bomb sub, son got a pepperoni Stromboli, daughter in law got the Sharon's Brie burger, grand daughter the child's cheeseburger and fries. Our apps were the garlic knots, mild wings (10) and fried cheese curds with sriracha ranch dipping sauce. Everything was okay, except that it took forever for everything to come out, compared to our first visit. Even our s'mores seemed to take forever. The quickest part of the whole visit was the bill . The fella that waited on us the first time was on point. Not saying that the young lady waiting on us was rude or anything, but I think she was trying to do too many things at once and some things just fell by the wayside. Last visit we came in on a Saturday as well, but perhaps some people are just better at multitasking? I don't know. This time, our bill was over $200 with tip, but we still brought home food again. Not a lot compared to the last time, only 2 little pickle wings (I still can't get enough of those darn things!) and maybe 4 slices of pizza. My husband's loaded tots weren't to his liking, so there's something even for the dog tomorrow We may stay away for awhile and see if they manage to work out some kinks. If anything, the best rule is consistency. If the food preparation is not consistent every time you go to eat there, there's a problem. There should be NO deviation just because someone else is cooking it. All recipes should be the same. Twice we've ordered the same items and they've been different. I still recommend this place for great vibes, cocktails, food and the tableside s'mores. There's just nowhere else like it!

In addition to the Home and Garden show, there were horse jumping competitions and apparently some tour groups with their yellow lanyards hanging on their necks. Needless to say, we waited in line a while and had to hunt for tables and chairs. Fortunately, my wife and I "divided and conquered" as she secured a table (which we happily shared with another couple after my wife wiped it off with a wet wipe) and I stood in line to place our orders. I ordered the Southwest Burger ($17) and my wife ordered the Patty Melt ($14.75). Both came with fries. We just had water. The wait was longer than we thought (the place was truly packed). My burger had good flavor but thought the burger patty was a bit overdone for my tastes. My wife liked her patty melt and thought it was full of flavor as well but would've preferred the marble rye to be grilled instead of toasted. All in all, despite the crowd which we thought may have affected their execution a bit, we thought of our experience a positive one. We might consider trying out their breakfast when we decide to head back out to WEC for a Sunday service in their quaint chapel. NOTE: I neglected to take pictures since the long wait left us famished.

The Southwest Burger looked promising with its chipotle aioli and candied bacon, it was a gastro-enthusiast's masterpiece, but the service? Yikes. Many other interesting burgers, sandwiches, shakes, and cake concoctions were on the menu, but my decision was set in stone. The anticipation of that first bite of the burger was going to cure my animalistic hunger as we headed to the counter and met with the cashier, Denise. She literally sounded like a robot requesting the choice of hamburgers and toppings. Then rudely explained the credit card payment options. I thought to myself, am I on a hidden camera television show? Absolutely zero personality, which sadly just severely diminished my highly anticipated Ralph's Burgers experience. Wait there's more...Emotionally defeated, I made payment for the food and still left a $12.00 TIP for Denise to merely enter my order into the computer. We all self-serve at the fountain drink station and find comfortable refuge at a quaint table. About ten minutes later, Denise yells my name alerting me that our food order was ready and I instantly acknowledged. Oddly, she yells to me, "I Need Hands!!!", as she just stood motionless behind the counter holding two of our food trays. It felt like a walk of shame to take possession of our food. Took a few minutes to shake off our initial contact with Denise and finally dug into that beautiful long awaited burger. Holy smokes, the chipotle and candied bacon were integrated perfectly with the juicy cooked beef along with big golden onion rings as a perfect sidekick. The World Equestrian Center provides unparalleled service at their luxurious estate, which I have witnessed during my stay, thus, if aware, this type of unprofessionalism toward customers and guests would never be tolerated. This experience definitely makes for an interesting holiday memory! It's just a shame that something as simple as friendly service couldn't make it even more memorable.
