Ordered in the app for pick up, arrived at the store and there is a counter in the front entrance with the wording "pick up- on line order", not being there before thought the food would be placed in that area, so I sat to wait for the food, as I was waiting noticed people who were ordering were being called when their food order was ready, so I thought when my food was tasty they would call my name. About 20- 25 minutes pass and so I went up to the counter to ask if my order was ready and yet asked for my name went back to check and it had been ready but no one called my name. I asked why no one called my name and they didn't have an answer, i guess you're supposed to check in when you arrive to check on your order, but there are no signage in the store or on line notifying you that you need to do that. Fortunately the manager offered to remake my orders of tater tots and onion rings because they were cold. The budget were warm but still okay by the time we got home. The did was tasty and would have been better if it were fresh, but for next time check in when you arrived to see if the food is ready. The restaurant was clean and the staff were friendly. The manager made it better by offering to remake the tater tots and onion rings. I world good back again and next time ask if my food is ready when I arrive. read more

We stopped here on our way home from a cruise. There was a young girl working the dining room , I did not catch. her name (she had long braids) who went above and beyond helping everyone to use the kiosk and get the best deals available, constantly checking on people whether it be napkins, ketchup or just small talk . She was extremely friendly, sweet ,great attitude and made everyone feel welcome, our food came out quickly. It was very good. We would definitely eat here again. I've been ordering the frisco melt for years, it's one of my favorite meals from any fast food restaurant. With that said, whatever this place is doing to them is disgusting. We visited after almost 8 years of living in Ocala since they began using tallow versus seed oils so let me start by saying the place was ridiculously warm inside. Me, my boyfriend and my best friend were going through the drive thru and we had the rudest interaction ever. I don't know if the drive thru worker was in a bad mood or having a bad day but she genuinely threw our recipe and money back at us, got mad and rude when we asked her to repeat because she kept mumbling the price and just genuinely rolling her eyes Everytime she was near us. I hadn't been to a Steak 'n Shake in years and stopped by this location on a roadtrip. It was definitely a throwback! What has changed is now you order at a kiosk yourself which I like because I'm super indecisive so this lets me spend some time at my own pace to go over the menu without holding up the line. When my order was ready the gentlemen called my name and let me know the fries would take an extra min or two and brought my food out to the table for us which was really nice. I got a a simple burger and it tasted great. The fries were straight out of the fryer so they were nice, hot and crispy. The fries tasted like super fresh real potatoes as well. Not sure if they are or not but I was a happy girl. Don't even get me started on the sweet tea, so delicious! This location absolutely does not deserve 2.3 stars on Yelp. The staff were so friendly. One man welcomed everyone coming through and checked on everyone. If someone took a minute at the kiosk he made sure they knew he was available to help. He was happy to be here and assist patrons. If someone seemed confused on the QR code for the drinks he was readily available as well. There was also a nice woman calling out numbers and she was very diligent to look in orders to ensure they were correct. She even told one patron to wait a moment to get them more sauce. She was really paying attention. Working in retail is hard and draining. The workers here though seemed so happy to be here and help people out. Especially being by the interstate they probably get a ton of tired people not wanting to learn to use the kiosk or QR codes. I grew up in Ocala and have not been back to this Steak n Shake in a very long time. It was nice to be back here again, there are not many of these where I am. You order through a kiosk so you rarely interact with people there unless they are handing you your food, the drink station is also self served. This was nice, but we came when a lot of people were coming in and there are only 4 or 5 kiosks, so ordering can take some time if there are people exploring a lot on the tablets and deciding what they want. The service was very quick, I ordered the chicken tenders and fries. The chicken tenders were okay, and the fries were pretty good. My food was not that warm when I got it, so if it was fresh I think it would have tasted a bit better. But otherwise, everything was what I expected. The place seemed pretty clean as well and the retro seating is always nice, its good to see that that hasn't changed. read more

You walk in go to the counter and order on a kiosk machine. Then you get your drink and go sit down. About 10 minutes later they called our number 142. We go get out food and sit down. Not a single soul talked to us. The food was good. They didn't have the seasoning salt they use to have. The kiosk machine asked if we wanted to leave an 18% or 20% or 25% tip. Why????????? We were so grateful Steak & Shake was open so late. We were driving from St. Petersburg to Jacksonville. We stopped in Ocala to eat. Just off SW College Rd. Every other restaurant was closed. The lobby was 10 people deep. The drive thru was full as well. We were patient because we were hungry. Hubby ordered the Frisco Melt with Fries and a regular Kit Kat Shake. I ordered the kids chicken fingers with fries and Hi-C. Great thing is that they cook the food to order. It was hot. The FF were really small. Luckily, I don't eat French Fries so Hubby had enough. Service was EXTREMELY slow and the food was mediocre. Seems like a chain in need of direction. Apparently the night we were there the shake machine was only manned by one employee and all the shakes were backed up over 45 min. When the staff was asked about it by multiple patrons dining in, the response was they have to make shakes for the drive through customers too. When paying the bill I took a look at the kitchen area and was shocked at how dirty it was. Well, here we go. Customer service zero. You have to go to a computer and make your own order. Then after you pay for it you go get your paid for drink and no soda comes out because no one says that you have to scan something. Then and only then you are able to able to get the machine to release soda. BUT be quick because you only have a very short time to get a full cup. Be slow and you get a half a cup. RUDE! Terrible customer service. If the kiosk asks you to put your name into the system, then WHY do they not even bother to call my name? No less than 30 TIMES, I have put my name into the kiosk to be tied to my order, and every single time they refused to call it out. They just say my order number and nothing more. And instead of calling my name, they just bring it to my table. I put the name in there for a reason! What if I was in the bathroom or something? How am I supposed to know my order is ready?! But here's the real kicker, they call everyone else's name, so is this discrimination or something? Are they specifically singling me out when it comes to calling out the name I put into their Kiosk for my order? At this point, I just started putting NA for Not Applicable. What's the point? They won't call the name anyways! At one point I called them out on it wondering why they won't call my name out loud. They called my name on that visit, but past that, it was right back to not calling my name. Also for SOME REASON, you can only get a LARGE Drink when you go through the Drive Thru. Not when you pay for the meal through Kiosk inside the Store. If I'm going to be paying for a Meal, I would like to have the biggest size cup provided for me, so when I am done, I can take my large drink with me on the go. The first time I went to this Steak N Shake, the food was to die for. It was SO good and wasn't over priced like the Freddy's down the street. But over time the food quality of what I've been getting has been rapidly decrease. I order the same thing every time. Double Cheeseburger, only Ketchup, Large fry, and a Drink. My burger looks old and crusty like it's been sitting out for about an hour. The fries look dried out and are so ridiculously salty. On a few occasions said food was Ice Cold. Like it was just pulled from the freezer. I even found spit in my burger once! On 9/17/2022 at around 5:37 PM, I went through the Drive Thru at this establishment. Let me show you how the conversation went. At the time I was on the phone with my friend after leaving Ocala Comic Con for the day. He is my witness in what I'm about to tell you about. "Person Running Drive Thru: Are you talking on the phone or making an order cause I can hear everything. Me: Ummmmmm (starts to order) Person Running Drive Thru: What are you doing? Me: Umm I'm trying to order Person Running Drive Thru: Well give me a minute!" I was so insulted by being treated with such rudeness, that I left the line and drove off to the McDonalds right next to it instead. They don't show this level of disrespect to their customers. It's no wonder while there is like maybe 4 people in the Drive Thru at this Steak 'n Shake, said McDonalds have people wrapping around the building waiting to go through the Drive Thru. I have worked in customer service for over 14 years. The customers are the reason the workers have a paycheck at all. You NEVER talk to the Customer like that. Never in my life have I've been talked to in such a way by a customer services associate. Such behavior is not only completely unacceptable, but it's also completely unprofessional. Rudeness of this level only will be bring shame to the business. And the next time I go there, I intend to show this review to the manager. Whoever was running that Drive Thru seriously needs an attitude adjustment, preferably in the form of Termination. It's people like that that give Customer Service a bad name. Do NOT go to this Steak n Shake! If I could give this place 0 out of 5 stars I would, but sadly the worst I can give is 1 out of 5 stars. They figured out how to make money by making the 2 people working there do the work of a full crew. It's a shame, this was a great place. We were suspicious when we pulled in and the parking lot was empty. The order was wrong and the fries were cold. They may as well bulldoze this place it's all over. Typical Steak N Shake, both the good and the bad. I've come here a few times on various stays in Ocala. As I said in my Tip: It's a Typical Steak N Shake in food and service. Meaning, the Frisco Melt is tasty & great; while the service is very uneven and hit or miss. For example, I asked for extra malt and the receipt doesn't reflect it. There is no malt taste, and they were out of Frisco bread. Now I don't take this all very seriously, because it's a comfort food place. Comfort food places are on a different Yelp scale. Either you like what you are eating and it hits the spot, or it doesn't. Think a sackful of White Castle hamburgers at 1 am and UR with three or four of your friends. Either it works, or doesn't. Ahhhh, their Five Way Chili. Yum I accept all the short comings I've read, and I've added a few of my own as noted above with the service and lack of malt in a Malt. LOL. We have been to steak 'n shake before but not at this location, and when we went the last time, they had servers. The one off 44 and I-75 near Wildwood was horrible except the food. This location in Ocala near I-75 was real good. The place was clean and the food was great. We loved the shakes. They're very thick and flavorful. The kiosks were cool, worked very well and very easy to use. No issues at all. The only negative we had was when we walked in, no one even said hello. I know they've become a self serve type of restaurant, but it would've been nice for someone to at least greet us... welcome! How are you today? ... something! Had lunch on a Saturday around the holidays. Great location, easy to park and friendly staff. Burgers were cooked to order, came out hot and fresh. A little light on the serving of fries (but it is probably the correct serving size). Only issue was smile shakes took awhile but they were well worth the wait! Delicious! Mmm so good!! I have seen these restaurants several times and did t know what I was missing. I order the double garlic burger combo with several add on to the burger like bacon, lettuce, tomato and pickle. You have to try it. A delicious garlic flavor on the outside of the bun as well as inside. A cup of fresh sweet tea goes well with this. And the French fries are so delicious. The food is prepared once you order and nothing is sitting getting cold. It is served hot and ready to be eaten. Restaurant here in Ocala, Fl is always very clean and cooks are fast at getting the order to me. I highly recommend Steak 'n Shake!! Five star rating. Oh and don't forget to order a milkshake.
