I don't trust the cleanliness of the tools here, and very rough approach to nails. Ever since I got my nails done I've been having to go to the doctor/take medicine. However the folks were friendly, and place has nice aesthetic. Yeah not a fan of these nail places in general now. I'm not sure many of them adhere to pro level hygiene practices. read more

This place is new, bright and clean. The staff is nice, but a bit pushy. I got a deluxe spa pedicure and a basic manicure. The manicure was super sloppy, it chipped and cracked in less than 24 hours. They stood over me as I was paying, literally over my shoulder waiting to see how much I was going to tip, making it super uncomfortable. Prices are high, and quality is not that great. I will not be coming back. read more

I decided to give star nails bar a try since they're now under new management, but I was greatly disappointed. I came to get a mani/pedi and left with gummy gel polish and a bleeding cuticle. While the new management probably has great intentions- the employees are TIRED. The only way I could see this place getting better is if they literally started over- new management ideals clearly haven't been accepted by the employees. Couldn't be more disappointed- don't waste your time coming here. read more

I did not have a great experience here. I made an appointment for myself and two friends, and triple confirmed we could all get our nails done at the same time. When we arrived at our apt time, they could only start on one of us...we ended up spending nearly THREE HOURS there as they did our nails one by one. We all got dip powder nails with acrylic tips (+$9?! It's only $5 anywhere else I've been) and they charged more for different shapes. The dip colors included at $45 were pretty pathetic, anything interesting (sparkles, iridescent) were all additional $. So obviously, this is one of those spots that will upcharge wherever possible (and unless you're like me and ask the cost at every step, they'll only tell you once you're paying). I also found the owner, Andy, to be pretty dang unpleasant. The other ladies who did my friends' were much nicer and attentive to detail, whereas Andy was brash and rude, didn't listen when I asked for him to be gentle with the drill on my nails, or to fix a crooked filing job. My nails looked fine in the end, but I definitely will not be returning here. read more

Amateurish and unprofessional. There were three of us getting stuff done and we had appointments. We ran the full spectrum of services; one of us got a full set acrylic, one an acrylic fill and one a full set of dip nails. The only one of us that left even close to satisfied was the dip acrylic full set and even she had to file and fix the shape at home. The friend that got the acrylic fill - hers came out lumpy and crooked, she selected cat eye paint and the woman that did the paint put the top coat on without even using the magnet, so no cat eye, and they still charged her for the special paint job even though they knew it wasn't done. That leaves me, I got a full set acrylic, the shape was awful, the nails were all different lengths. I can't complain about the paint job, that was ok. All told, we will all stay far away from this place. read more

I love this place Kim is amazing and I always leave beyond happy with how my nails turn out.. they are very patient with me when it comes to my indecisiveness there have been times where we start with a color and I change my mind a nail or 2 in and they handle me wanting to change the color very kindly where I don't feel like a burden. So if you are looking for a great nail place that's clean and will leave happy with your experience then this is the place. read more

Chose the upgraded pedicure, the #1 for the callous removal and the 10 min hot stone massage. They only massaged me for 5 minutes (yes, I timed it). What a disappointment. The paint job was mediocre, I can paint my own nails but I go to a salon because I love the massage experience. Won't be back, bummer. read more

First time here. 1. No clear door entryway. I walked around the bldg. need a clear front door. 2. Incense is way too strong and the whole place smelled like smoke. Not very spa like. It's a new salon with all new chairs, decor and huge polish rack with hundreds of bottles. My nail tech was very attentive and gave a good pedicure. The hot stone massage was wonderful. 4/5 stars read more

Not impressed yet. Guy was nice but I made appt and waited 30 min before they started. Prices a bit higher so not sure I'll make my regular place. I like location because next to Bleach&Brawn where I get my hair done. read more

My 86 yo mom and I were in town from the Bay Area visiting family. Mom wanted a pedicure so I found this shop on Yelp and decided to check it out although their review was only 3 stars. It was convenient since we had to drop by Target. We were greeted outside by, I believe, the owner who said they could take us right away. Lily worked on me as I wanted a pedicure with extra massage time for my suffering plantar fasciitis. Lily did a wonderful job massaging my feet and legs with lotions, a salt rub and hot stones. She really was invested in having me relax as she reclined my chair and asked me to close my eyes. As I looked over at mom, she had already done the same. The shop is extremely clean (all of their instruments are wrapped) and the place looks brand new. You sink into their pedi chairs with full massage. The plus was the chairs were very easy for mom to climb in. Once we departed we were given a little goodie bag with a nail file, nail buffer pad and a larger one for the feet. This shop is a definite stop when we return to Carlsbad and should be listed with five stars! read more

Star nails has a beautiful salon along with great service. I've never been disappointed after leaving their business. I recommend coming here!! read more

Waited with feet in cold water for 30 minutes past appointment time because no one available. Although there were no other customers waiting, female service provider rushed through steps. As soon as she was finished, she moved me. Because toenails were still wet and not properly separated, one toe smudged another toe. When I brought it to her attention, she added more polish while I was standing and didn't add any topcoat. Many cuticles are covered with polish. My daughter winced and pulled foot away when painful during cuticle trim by male service provider. He pulled her foot back. read more

Adorable nail salon with the sweetest techs working there. Super clean inside and top of the line equipment. They will try to talk you into getting gel but I have been wanting to try it anyway. So glad I found this place because it is a little tucked away. I will be coming back!! read more

We went here for the first time and we had a wonderful experience. Place was super clean. I had probably the best pedicure I have had in years. It was maybe $5 more expensive than the regular place I go to but I got Callus remover, a 10 min massage with hot stones and a paraffin wax on my feet! I think that you definitely get what you pay for. We will make this our new regular spot. Tiffany is great for pedicures! See you guys in two weeks! read more

I recommended this place to my niece (see Sarah's review). She had a horrible experience- gel chipped off on two nails in 2 days and when she went back the technician cut her, left fingers oily and still didn't fix properly so I will probably not be going back read more

Love this place !! They always take their time on doing my nail. They are very kinds and always have a smile on their face.

AMAZING service and my nails turned out EXACTLY how I envisioned them. I came in on a busy Saturday without an appointment and only waited about ten minutes to be seen. Andy was quick, efficient, gentle, and did a great job on my nails. The color was so pretty and he shaped my nails exactly how I like them done. I chose dip nails this time and I absolutely LOVE how they came out. I was comfortable the entire time I was there and left feeling like a million bucks, definitely recommend you visit! read more

Rude owner. Last time I was there, he was so rude to me that I left in tears. I'm busy and like to keep a standing appointment. They didn't want to do that and wanted a call before I came in. I didn't like it, but decided I could call them on my way. The last straw was when I called, he said to come in, but he thought I wanted him to do my nails. I told him no, I wanted Krystie. I even said that the last time he did my nails he cut me 3 times and it hurt. My nails ached for over a week. He screamed at her, me and threw a temper tantrum. Continued to yell, speak rudely in Vietnamese and talked about me while I was sitting there. I will never go back. read more

My mom and I met here for manicures and pedicures an hour before closing. Andy and Lily seated us right away, they were friendly, kind and chatted with us throughout the treatment. Always great service! Nails look beautiful. They have lots of options . The dip manicure looks amazing and lasts for weeks!

This place is amazing! Friendly staff. High tech. CLEAN! Did I mention CLEAN?! Prices are very reasonable. I have never been to a better salon. I live in the San Francisco Bay Area and wish we had a place like this. I plan to make this a regular stop when I'm in town! You must try this place! You will not be disappointed! read more

I decided to go here since it is so close to work. I'm glad I did. I went in at 6:15pm and they got me right in without an appointment. I got a gel French manicure and it came out exactly like I expected. Krystie was sweet and skilled with my manicure and did not rush me even though it was close to closing. Andy was friendly at the front desk, and the salon was clean. I will be going back for future manicures and pedicures. read more

Trying to find a very clean, responsive nail salon that places your every need or concern as a priority is extremely difficult. But with Star Nails, Excellence is truly what they strive for. Starting with an extremely clean salon to the high tech chairs to the Christian music playing in the background I felt very relaxed and welcomed. They offer a variety of spa treatments that are reasonably priced for what they do ($$) and go the extra mile to ensure you are satisfied . I received a hot stone message on my feet and legs that was heavenly. Both Tiny and Kristy were attentive to my hands and feet and they look great. I had rhinestones put on each finger on both hands and only was charged $15 extra. Cant wait for my next visit. read more

As soon as you walk into this place you can see it is very clean and you are greeted with a smile. We were helped right away and I can say this was the best pedicure I have ever had! The nail designs they have on display made me want to come back and get a full set. Prices are very fair! We will definitely be back and this will be our regular place we go! read more

15 min before closing, I called and asked if they had time for a gel dipped powder manicure and Andy said yes come in!! I was so relieved because I desperately needed my nails done. Andy did such an amazing and fast job for a very reasonable price. Plus no charge for taking off gel! I will definitely be going back. :) read more

Great location.. plenty of parking. Very clean and staff is very friendly. Lots of color choices

Just noticed this place a few days ago and thought I would give it a try since it is so close to home (just off Carlsbad Airport Rd). Great first impression when you walk in. SO much nicer/cleaner/newer than a lot of nail places. Everyone is very friendly - they have only been open for 4 months and they appear to not have a lot of business yet(I stopped in on a Thurs afternoon). I appreciated them listening to what I wanted. They suggested pink & white but I wanted clear and white for a more natural look and was very pleased with the outcome. I haven't had acrylic nails for several years and I like the way they turned out. I also got a pedi. My toes look great but they do not massage like some places. Price may be a bit higher than other places but you get what you pay for and the clean, nicely decorated salon is worth it. Tina and Andy did a great job. read more

DO NOT GO HERE!! I never write reviews but feel the need to let you all know my daughter's experience. She just turned 16 and wanted to spend her own money on nails. She called and asked what the cost was for a set of nails with gel. He quoted her $30. She goes to get her nails done by Andy. When she gets there and he starts working on the nails, once they are glued to her fingers, and she describes she wants them long, he tells her it will be $50 because they are "long"!!! She tears up thinking this is way too much for her but what choice does she have now that they are on her fingers. (Me...I would walk out. But she is 16). While he is doing her nails, he asks her, "How old are you?" "You are beautiful", "Are you married?" She says, "No, I'm 16". "Do you have a boyfriend?" There is one other worker there and no other customers in there because they are closing at 7:30. My daughter is feeling intimidated, and uncomfortable with his comments. Andy tells the other woman working there that my daughter is "single". She says, "of course, she is 16." Andy says, "Then I'm 15." This is so inappropriate! She is in this salon at the close of shift with only Andy and another employee. Telling her she is beautiful and single and he is 15 is just WEIRD and made her feel intimidated. My husband and I decided to find out the full story by visiting Andy the next day. Now I can understand a language barrier, and the chance of miscommunication so we went there just to confirm what was told. But he got angry and told us he did not talk to her "at all." He just focused on the nails. I said, "so you never said a word to her while working on her nails. He said "NO". He told us it was $30 for nails, $15 for gel and $5 for filing a shape! Whatever they want to charge is their prerogative, although the cost is ridiculous and even more so for not telling clients ahead of time or posting. But even worse than that, the conversation with my daughter is inappropriate. Nobody should feel uncomfortable having a service. In the conversation with my husband and me, he kept cutting us off every time we tried to explain anything. My husband had to finally tell him he would appreciate it if he would let him finish one sentence. Andy did not want to discuss it with us and walked away from us. Great customer service! Bottom line - unhappy customer and he did nothing to try to make it right. It's not the amount, it's the principle and the lack of any awareness of trying to take care of the customer, especially when it's the parents of a teenager who is talking to the owner himself! Will never be going back. read more

I have come here before and the guy who did my nails was very rough with my hands and they did not turn out how I wanted them! I decided to give them a second chance and the same guy AGAIN was too rough and cut me on several fingers and did not apologize, instead said " I'm too sensitive". The shape of the nails came out too thick and crooked. If you don't like how your nail(s) look and you ask him to fix it he will either tell you tell you that it looks fine or he will roll his eyes, sigh and start working on your nail(s) too roughly. read more

I normally go to the same place to get my nails done with no appointment and I have to wait at least an hour. Thought it was time to find a new place, my mom recommended star nail bar. Andy did an amazing job, very fast and kind. I splurged for the pink and white tips and gel toes and it was so worth it. I had no wait and was a walk in. I highly recommend! Very clean and nice staff. I was very satisfied with my experience. I found my new go-to salon. read more

Wish I could leave zero stars. This place is horrible. There are only like 3 people working there. Long wait and they get mad at you for not leaving a "good enough" tip. They talk about you in their language and it's not pleasant. Had gel done yesterday and already took it off myself. Terrible job. Would not recommend. Also pricey. read more

If you want to be TOLD what you're getting done, touched inappropriately and made bleed.. this is your place! My sister and I tried it out because the reviews were alright and we're on the hunt for a good nail salon (less hope by the day). When we walked in the salon was quiet and clean, very pretty with a lot of up to date equipment.. we were excited as it looked like they put a lot into the place.. We were greeted by Andy immediately, we explained that we were walk-ins and asked if they had time for two full sets.. he said yes and asked us to wash our hands and have a seat.. so we did, he finished up the gal he was working on and went outside to have a smoke.. ok, whatever... then he comes to sit down and tells us that he's going to do us both at the same time.. Uh....He insists "he's a professional" and we will love our nails.. we agree and he gets started.. Our nails were nothing, I mean nothing, like the photos we showed him. He cut me pretty bad, which I understand can happen, but instead of apologizing he looks at me like I'm being a baby and continues to file my skin, over and over again.. He left numerous times to have a cigarette while doing our nails (my sister HATES the smell of cigarette smoke) and kept yelling at us to switch places as he literally was doing our nails at the same time.. The best part, he charged us $50 each for a full set that was so bad I had to bite my cheek so I wouldn't cry during it.. then, he wouldn't walk away until after he got his tip.. THEN, patted my sister on the butt on our way out. In hindsight, I cant believe we let him get away with all this. He's lucky all he's getting is this shit review, do your self a favor and stay far away! read more

Worst nail salon ever. My friend and I had appointments for pedicures and acrylics, but they made me wait about 20-30 minutes for my pedicure because they only had 2 workers for 4 customers and ended up having to call another worker in. What's the point of an appointment if I have to wait? For my acrylics (only a fill) I showed the guy worker there what design I wanted which colors involved only two different shades of pink. He told me to pick them out so I did but once I picked them he said he "couldn't do it because there were two colors". This made no sense. I showed him a second design which was simple- a french tip with light pink instead of white. He told me to pick the color but was too impatient to wait and went outside for a smoke break. He came back and it smelled disgusting, even through my mask. When he was getting ready to do the french tip I thought he was going to do a base coat so you wouldn't be able to see the powder and my real nail under, but clearly wasn't going to do that. So I nicely asked him to because I didn't want anything showing under the acrylic, but said he couldn't for french nails and refused to. I know this isn't true because I've had it done before. He also talked about how he has been doing nails for 20+ years. If he was that experienced you would think he would know how to do a base coat! Since he was lazy and refused to do designs I had to pick a color for the third time to do a plain set which isn't what I wanted. My friend went in for marble acrylics and also walked out with a plain colored set because he was too lazy and stubborn to do a design. The whole time he was rude to me and my friend and was very rough with our nails. At one point I had asked him to file one of the acrylics down a little bit because it was longer than the other ones and he threw a FIT. I can't believe this place is still open considering how he especially treats customers. We ended up being there for over 3 hours and won't be coming back again. I highly suggest no one else does either because it's a waste of your time and money. read more
