It's fun, quirky, and filled with delicious goodies -- a great place to get coffee and tea, with the added bonus of sweet treats! I love the rotation of seasonal drinks, and the baked goods are a small but mighty selection of scones, muffins, cookies, brioche cinnamon rolls (my favorite!), and other yummy baked deliciousness! Staff are friendly and helpful in offering options -- for example, I needed some dairy free milk choices. The barista also offered great recommendations with the seasonal drinks. Pricing is really reasonable... which allows you to indulge in some additional baked goods or one of their fun merchandise items like homemade dog treats, t-shirts, mugs, etc. I also like that they have a small shelf of books, records, and games if you want a little BFF time - with your bestie or for just yourself! I enjoy stopping in for refreshments and a little break from shopping on Lindbergh, or getting something to go to enjoy at home. The vibe is relaxed, and easy-going, and marching to the beat of its own drum. You gotta love places like this! There is plenty of parking, and the lot is easy to get in and out of. Just watch your step at the doorway entry/exit. It's got a slight incline - so watch your step. Seating is limited, but it seems to work, because there is a steady "to go" crowd that doesn't take up the tables. I love this cool spot in South County! It's local, and I love that over bigger, more expensive alternatives. I've been thinking a lot about those cinnamon rolls. So, I need another visit!

Today, I literally had to leave because when I walked in, there was no one behind the counter, I stood there for a few minutes until someone finally came out out of the back section, and then I assume, went behind the counter to tell the worker that I was waiting. When the worker came out, she had a bunch of cookies in her hands that she then had to proceed to fold and put into a bag and then she started making the coffee of two people that were sitting at the counter while I was still just standing there. She did acknowledge me, which I appreciate, but at that point, I have been standing there for at least five minutes and I still hadn't ordered my coffee. I told her that I had to leave because I had to get to work and went to Starbucks instead, which I really didn't want to do. But this has been a pattern with this place- either they're not hiring enough staff, the staff that they have is overwhelmed or something is going on. I've been coming here for almost a year- and I definitely would prefer to patronize a local Shop, but not if it's gonna take five minutes to even just get my order taken when I am literally the only person in line. Also, I wanna add, I literally used to come here three times a week. This is not a new experience, but this one has really taken it over the top. Like I said, I want to support a local coffee shop, and I want to like this place, but particularly in the morning when people are on their way to work, this type of delay is totally unacceptable. I'm not blaming the worker, I'm blaming whoever's doing the scheduling.

Overall rating 3.5/5, even though I can't give half stars here on Yelp. One star for ambiance/vibes. This is a gorgeous, quaint little eatery in a lush area of Saint Louis County, right near Grant's Trail. One star for service. My server was a kind lady who made sure I was always doing well and kept my water glass topped off. One star for going above and beyond--I ordered gooey butter cake as a sweet treat and apparently whomever cut the slices made them too small so they gave me two but only charged me for one. Half a star for the gooey butter cake and espresso martini. Neither was the best instance of either I've ever had but they were the best part of the actual meal. Unfortunately, I think I made the wrong entree choice. I went with the biscuit (singular) and gravy and a side of sausage links. The biscuit is described as "jumbo" but didn't feel much bigger than what I'd consider a regular-sized biscuit. It also wasn't nearly as fluffy as I would have liked and was quite tough and hard at points, nearly requiring the use of a knife to cut it. The gravy was relatively flavorless and wasn't improved much by either salt or pepper. The sausage links were passable. I'm willing to give the shop another shot (and order something different) once I try some other brunch places on my list but I was a little disappointed on this visit because I wanted to like my food more.

My breakfast burrito had all the that good stuff and came with a jalapeño ranch to top it off. Service was pretty quick. There's another coffee place nearby that we wanted to try, but it's not open on Sundays, so Kaldi's…read moreit was! That may have been for the best. I know Kaldi's has labor issues and might be paying their employees in coupons they can exchange for day-old baked goods, but that's neither here nor there for me, because I don't work there. And I know they once had a reputation for charging entirely too much for coffee and what have you, as if they were Whole Paycheck, but that's been rendered at least somewhat moot by the fact that everyone does that now. (I'd mention whom we have to blame for that, but I don't think it's necessary.) What a lovely location this place is in. If you time your Sunday morning run just right, you can arrive right as people are assembled, with their luggage, at the little train station next to the parking lot. Hopefully, they're not about to hop a train somewhere for tragic reasons. I used to travel by bus on occasion, and I've heard some stories. The inside is lovely. If they're overcharging, they at least spent some of it on the decor. The lights are dimmed, like at a fine-dining establishment. If you can convince a girl on Hinge to meet you somewhere for coffee, and you don't want her to see what exactly you look like, this place would be perfect. Also, if she's willing to meet IRL, and possibly give it up, in exchange for a $9 latte, chances are you're not gonna want to see what exactly *she* looks like. I've had the breakfast burrito from most local coffee places and only really cared for the one from Upshot, which might be the best thing I ever had in a restaurant. I figured Kaldi's offering wouldn't be anything to write home about but I'd try it anyway, for the sake of citizen food journalism. If this place has the unmitigated gall to charge a Section 8 rent payment for something you can get in the freezer at QT (with a free coffee, if you use the app), people need to know. Turns out that wasn't really the case. Their breakfast burrito isn't anything you just have to have, but it isn't half bad either. The ingredients are a cut above something you might get at a fast food restaurant, and I appreciate the way that the eggs, bacon, potatoes and what have you all seemed to be cooked together rather than layered on separately like in some elaborate bean dip. The bacon is greasier than you'd expect, in a good way, some of which carries over to the eggs and potatoes. A side of sour cream or salsa, or a bottle of Cholula on the table, would have really set it off. I guess coffee is what they're known for. I've had their regular coffee once or twice and recall liking it, but I've heard some people complain that it tastes burnt. But I know some people say the same thing about the coffee at Starbucks, and I might be the only person who likes that. (And yet they somehow manage to stay in business.) Kaldi's iced vanilla latte is surprisingly complex, for what it is. It's not overly sweet, and it's much more coffee-forward than the version I had a week before at Kentzo. Sometimes these things taste more like milk than anything else, which is fine with me, because I love milk, but this is probably how they're supposed to taste. If it's true what they say, that the labor here is not completely voluntary in nature, then at least they're running a tight ship. The consequences for subpar performance must be positively brutal.

I'd attend such a meeting, but more so for the lulz (but also to share my beliefs). I'm pleased to report that there's none of that going on here, that I'm aware of. Granted, this was a Sunday morning. I was there with my running group as part of our ongoing unofficial breakfast burrito tour, the last such stop until this fall, due to upcoming marathon training. Of course it was the most unpleasant day of the year, maybe ever, with a heat index of 117 (no hyperbole). I changed shirts before I came in and then sweated through that shirt as well. One of the ladies I was with left a gross pool of sweat in her chair after she left. It didn't occur to me to pull a Charlamagne tha God until hours later. I'm growing as a human being. Part of that growth is gradually coming to realize that seasonal lattes, unless they have sort of especially distinct flavor, like banana, aren't going to taste like anything other generic artificial sweetener, let alone what they purport to be. I considered ordering an iced caramel latte, but I figured what the heck. I went with something called a Miso Brown Sugar Latte. It was good for what it was, but I don't know that anyone, if you gave it to them to try, could identify it as that. I liked the fact that it had a somewhat more pronounced coffee flavor, compared to some places where it mostly just tastes like a glass of milk. I wasn't as crazy about the fact that it took a while for the ice cubes to cool it down, probably longer than it would have taken if it were served in a glass cup. I went with something called the Annex Burrito, which I didn't realize until after I ordered it is not the only burrito they carry. I guess you can also get a bog-standard breakfast burrito with bacon, eggs and cheese. This one comes with corn, beans and some sort of unidentified crema for the same amount. Maybe they give you less bacon. Mine didn't have a lot of bacon, but the bacon it did have was not crisp and had a precooked vibe. The latter was more of an issue for me than the former. I'm a savage in that way. I did appreciate the fact that it was griddled, possibly using a panini press. The exterior was ever so slightly crisp, while the interior was pizza roll-level molten. The overall vibe was similar to those microwave burritos they used to carry at 7-11, but in a good way. All I needed was a mini truck enthusiast magazine filled with photos of bikini-clad Latinas and a Windex-blue Slurpee, but I was able to make do with a lukewarm mystery latte and the old ladies I run with. I'm resourceful.
