The egg sandwich is my go-to and highly recommend! The desserts are also fresh and i've never had experienced a dessert that was stale which is nice. The cold brew is also great! Everything flows. It's organized chaos done right. The seasonal drinks are consistently creative and actually good. Not just pretty for Instagram. Balanced, thoughtful, and well executed. And the bakery? Dangerous. The display case is pure temptation. Cinnamon rolls, pecan twists, danishes, cookies, scones. Everything looks like the right choice, which makes choosing impossible. They also have solid brunch plates and sandwiches if you're trying to pretend you're here for something other than sugar and caffeine. Now for the one miss. I ordered the pepper jack breakfast burrito, and unfortunately, it didn't live up to the rest of the experience. Flat flavors, mushy texture, no real identity. The hot sauce was doing most of the work. It felt out of place in a spot that clearly cares about quality. Thankfully, the bakery and coffee saved the day. The pecan twist was flaky, buttery, and just sweet enough. The seasonal latte with cold foam was smooth, balanced, and dialed in. Overall, McLain's is a Kansas City staple for a reason. Efficient, welcoming, and consistently good at what they do. One menu tweak away from being near-perfect. Solid 4-star spot. Would happily come back.

One section is totally secluded for studying or working while the other is in a working bakery where you can see bread being made! I enjoyed the matcha, it was a little sweet which was a nice flavor. The coffee cake was moist and thick. I also ordered biscuits and gravy, which was unique because I think the sausage was a chorizo. It was yummy. I liked that you order at the counter. It made the ordering process super quick

I ordered and had my drink within a minute, and my food came out shortly after. I ordered the Vanilla Sky specialty latte and the Sunrise sandwich. The latte was pretty mediocre, not bad but not great either. The coffee itself didn't taste anything special, and for the price I was expecting a little more from it. The sandwich, though, was really good. Everything was cooked perfectly: velvety runny egg, crunchy bacon, melted gouda (although I couldn't taste it much), and an earthy basil mayo. All the flavors worked really well together, and it was a solid-sized sandwich too. My biggest issue was the price. I spent over $20 here, and honestly I feel like I could make a sandwich and coffee similar to this at home for cheaper and probably better.

Maybe it's the former barista in me, but I just never know what I'm gonna walk into. I was bit extra hesitant as I knew from reading reviews that this place was a bit off the beaten path, and as I routed myself there and found my car meandering through a suburban office parking lot maze I became even more nervous about my plan to work from here. All of that being said, once I got close to the coffeeshop itself I saw a sign clearly visible from the lot which was my first breath of relief. The signage is spectacular for a fairly hidden spot. Yes, you need to know it's here, but you will find it rest assured! If you don't see the sign keep hunting. The nice thing about it being in an office park is that there is ample parking. I was able to park and walk right in. The inside is modern but inviting, and at 9am I was able to have my pick of the tables. The day I was there was nice and I had my laptop so I went outside to their patio. I worked out there for about an hour and when I came inside to take a video call it was packed! I was able to snag a table and purchased a sparkling water before using their wifi (which was great!). Now to the coffee - I had a dirty chai and it was honestly wonderful. No notes. The baristas were friendly and overall I had a great time. Adding this to my list of great work spots in JOCO.

The people working seemed like they enjoyed what they were doing and it showed. We don't live in the area, but we're nearby for other shopping so stopped in to try something new. I'm glad we did.

This local spot is located in the little historic Lenexa downtown, which is itself somewhat hidden away now that the Lenexa Public Market is open and draws folks that way. Coming to this stretch of suburbia feels charming and quaint, and I love that there is a really fantastic local coffee shop nestled into this shopping center. Now onto what makes this place so special. There are tons of great cafes in Kansas City, but what sets Maps apart from the pack is that they roast their own beans in house and they are all super fresh. You can taste the difference in the brew and it's a nice change of pace to have something a bit different since many of the local spots in town use the same local roasters. Once you find out about Maps you'll start to notice other cafes and restaurants that use their beans. It's not as many as say, Messenger, but Maps holds their own in this arena. They also make their own chocolate! And when I say make, I mean make. They actually make the chocolate bars and not just the candies. Even more impressive, it's damn good chocolate. Honestly, if you haven't been to this spot and have a love for coffee and/or chocolate it's well worth a visit. The cherry on top for me is how unpretentious the entire place is. You'll feel welcome, and the staff working will be happy to chat your ears off about their products. 5/5 for me!

I chose one of their seasonal menu items, a pumpkin spice latte, and was blown away by how good it was. The pumpkin flavor was nailed perfectly with the coffee. Service was incredible (for a fun surprise, enroll in the rewards program!), and the shop vibes are very relaxed. I'm looking forward to many future visits!
