Found out about grand opening through email communication from sister company, Em Chamas, so wanted to check them out bright and early! You can see the location to the right off of Shawnee Mission Pkwy and have to enter into the bank's drive-thru to access (a sign along with bank's would be great!) Menu options well displayed, online menu has more information, products & online ordering if needed. $$ Tried their 8oz. Honey Nut & Grand lattes with the blueberry scone. Coffees somewhat sweet but could definitely feel the espresso taste! Suzie (hopefully spelled correctly) was delightful and offered rewards sign-up. Though I didn't go inside, I did notice some outside seating.

Always eager to hit up a new coffee shop, I stopped in at Grand Coffee Company's second location in Shawnee while on a jaunt to JoCo today. The original GCC in the Crown Center complex has stood out for me after attending their grand opening and then learning more about their operation, family, culture and mission when attending a recent Caffeine Crawl. In house roasting, creative seasonal menu and family recipes for in-house made pastries give their new location a head start in competing in the JOCO market. The location shares space with a bank, so parking is a bit confusing trying to navigate 'do not enter' signs and drive through lanes, so best to just park on the east side of the building and walk a few feet. The interior is open and bright with comfortable and classy seating options. I skipped the pistachio and Smore seasonal offerings today and stuck with my go-to pick-me-up, the classic standard Cortado and took an afternoon respite. Perfection in a glass. While there, I was able to meet and chat with the owner Salvatore. Hopefully he takes me up on my recommendation to open location #3 in the Northland, so I can visit a GCC no matter what side of the city I'm in... I even bought a T-shirt!! Isn't life Grand!

Updating my review: I come here probably 4 times a week and have decided they have the best iced latte out of all the places I've been thus far. They have a nice relaxing vibe with good music level and sound level. The baristas are great at greeting people and getting beverages out in a timely manner. They also recently had a musical duo on a Saturday, I was unable to attend but that is a nice touch. They added more outdoor seating and lighting for the outdoor section as well. Very clean and quality food and coffee/tea!

What a great Italian coffee cafe! I love Italian roast coffee and this did not disappoint. Location was easy to get to and there is a drive thru as well as ample indoor space and outdoor space. They have a great selection of drinks and they are not overly sweet. We tried the Honey Nut Cheerio latte, the Nutella latte and a cafe au lait. Very happy with all. They have breakfast sandwiches made in house but bread is store bought, store bought bagels but housemade protein balls and pastries (scones, banana bread, cinnamon rolls, croissants and muffins). The chocolate croissant was great but I recommend heating it up. The lemon crumb muffin was full of lemon taste and not artificial. Service was good. They have only been open a couple weeks and are still getting their bearings but all in all off to a great start.

Everything flows. It's organized chaos done right. The seasonal drinks are consistently creative and actually good. Not just pretty for Instagram. Balanced, thoughtful, and well executed. And the bakery? Dangerous. The display case is pure temptation. Cinnamon rolls, pecan twists, danishes, cookies, scones. Everything looks like the right choice, which makes choosing impossible. They also have solid brunch plates and sandwiches if you're trying to pretend you're here for something other than sugar and caffeine. Now for the one miss. I ordered the pepper jack breakfast burrito, and unfortunately, it didn't live up to the rest of the experience. Flat flavors, mushy texture, no real identity. The hot sauce was doing most of the work. It felt out of place in a spot that clearly cares about quality. Thankfully, the bakery and coffee saved the day. The pecan twist was flaky, buttery, and just sweet enough. The seasonal latte with cold foam was smooth, balanced, and dialed in. Overall, McLain's is a Kansas City staple for a reason. Efficient, welcoming, and consistently good at what they do. One menu tweak away from being near-perfect. Solid 4-star spot. Would happily come back.

You are definitely paying premium for your drink but especially the baked goods as their bread is all made in house by Ibis Bakery. Now more than one barista helped me review the massive menu. Payton ended up taking my order: CBS with MIXED GREENS, MATCHA TEA and a MUDSLIDE made with SOY MILK! The space is very large with multiple seating areas, quiet corners, plenty of open dining and enclosed room dining as well. It has a walkthrough to the bakery side along with mini store selling cups, Messner Farms merchandise and more. Now I really enjoyed my CBS: marinated chicken, bacon, red onion, cheddar cheese, tomato and chipotle mayo on brioche potato roll.. sounds pretty good huh! It was devine! Those combined ingredients made for one of the best chicken sandwiches hot or cold (because I could finish it in one sitting) I've had! Now I picked at the chicken solo and it didn't have too much flavor but as a sandwich everything comes together well! I wasn't too impressed with the Mudslide.. it was dreary, no hit of chocolate or creme so I'm not sure what it was supposed to be. My mom said the match with honey syrup was decent. Everything for the price definitely ensured my only trip.

Maybe it's the former barista in me, but I just never know what I'm gonna walk into. I was bit extra hesitant as I knew from reading reviews that this place was a bit off the beaten path, and as I routed myself there and found my car meandering through a suburban office parking lot maze I became even more nervous about my plan to work from here. All of that being said, once I got close to the coffeeshop itself I saw a sign clearly visible from the lot which was my first breath of relief. The signage is spectacular for a fairly hidden spot. Yes, you need to know it's here, but you will find it rest assured! If you don't see the sign keep hunting. The nice thing about it being in an office park is that there is ample parking. I was able to park and walk right in. The inside is modern but inviting, and at 9am I was able to have my pick of the tables. The day I was there was nice and I had my laptop so I went outside to their patio. I worked out there for about an hour and when I came inside to take a video call it was packed! I was able to snag a table and purchased a sparkling water before using their wifi (which was great!). Now to the coffee - I had a dirty chai and it was honestly wonderful. No notes. The baristas were friendly and overall I had a great time. Adding this to my list of great work spots in JOCO.

This local spot is located in the little historic Lenexa downtown, which is itself somewhat hidden away now that the Lenexa Public Market is open and draws folks that way. Coming to this stretch of suburbia feels charming and quaint, and I love that there is a really fantastic local coffee shop nestled into this shopping center. Now onto what makes this place so special. There are tons of great cafes in Kansas City, but what sets Maps apart from the pack is that they roast their own beans in house and they are all super fresh. You can taste the difference in the brew and it's a nice change of pace to have something a bit different since many of the local spots in town use the same local roasters. Once you find out about Maps you'll start to notice other cafes and restaurants that use their beans. It's not as many as say, Messenger, but Maps holds their own in this arena. They also make their own chocolate! And when I say make, I mean make. They actually make the chocolate bars and not just the candies. Even more impressive, it's damn good chocolate. Honestly, if you haven't been to this spot and have a love for coffee and/or chocolate it's well worth a visit. The cherry on top for me is how unpretentious the entire place is. You'll feel welcome, and the staff working will be happy to chat your ears off about their products. 5/5 for me!
