Hadn't been in over a year, but went in to meet a friend and admin. The coffee counter bar area has been remodeled and has a seriously cool pour-over system. You pick the beans, make your own coffee combo if you prefer. They grind it and it runs through an auto-pour system. You can also get your beans roasted in store! Definitely put this in your list. First time ever having a Honey Latte that tasted like real honey and not artificially flavored syrup. Today my first visit to Maps, though I have been to a few other businesses in the area. I was pleasant surprised by the size and amount of available seating. There was a short line to order coffee at the bar, but it moved quickly. They have all standard coffee drinks with a few flavor options and a seasonal menu. They also offered various pastries, but nothing savory that I saw. The barista was pleasant and my drinks came out quickly. They mentioned a loyalty program that I will probably sign up for on my next visit. read more

I tend to think the term "hidden gem" is a bit overused but I do think it applies here to Maps Coffee & Chocolate in Lenexa. This local spot is located in the little historic Lenexa downtown, which is itself somewhat hidden away now that the Lenexa Public Market is open and draws folks that way. Coming to this stretch of suburbia feels charming and quaint, and I love that there is a really fantastic local coffee shop nestled into this shopping center. Now onto what makes this place so special. There are tons of great cafes in Kansas City, but what sets Maps apart from the pack is that they roast their own beans in house and they are all super fresh. You can taste the difference in the brew and it's a nice change of pace to have something a bit different since many of the local spots in town use the same local roasters. Once you find out about Maps you'll start to notice other cafes and restaurants that use their beans. It's not as many as say, Messenger, but Maps holds their own in this arena. They also make their own chocolate! And when I say make, I mean make. They actually make the chocolate bars and not just the candies. Even more impressive, it's damn good chocolate. Honestly, if you haven't been to this spot and have a love for coffee and/or chocolate it's well worth a visit. The cherry on top for me is how unpretentious the entire place is. You'll feel welcome, and the staff working will be happy to chat your ears off about their products. 5/5 for me! read more

Stopped in between clients and grabbed a ham and cheese croissant for a quick bit with my coffee. Croissant was light, fluffy and crispy while the ham and cheese were cook just right. Coffee was as delicious as always. read more

I had a good experience here after a miserable experience at Black dog Coffee. I drove here to redeem my coffee morning and bring my friend an iced chai because I didn't wanna pay for another drink from Black dog coffee. Maps coffee roast their own beans and has an actual barista you can tell in the flavor in the taste of the coffee. This coffee tasted much better and this is a great option for the area. I will be returning here. The service was also fantastic. I liked it and enjoyed my latte. read more

Really comfy coffee shop! They have free wifi and it's a very nice place to study or have a meeting. Plenty of different seating options and there's different coffees and chocolates to try (they had edible coffee...!). I tried their cheese danish which I thought was really tasty, maybe not the best one I've had but good nonetheless. Also tried their pumpkin spice latte, it had a nice flavor and some pumpkin pie seasoning on top as well! Staff were all super friendly and made sure everything was stocked. Maps... home of the best PSL ever? I was in the area shopping with a friend and was in desperate need of caffeine. I just happened to stumble upon Maps and I couldn't be happier I did. I chose one of their seasonal menu items, a pumpkin spice latte, and was blown away by how good it was. The pumpkin flavor was nailed perfectly with the coffee. Service was incredible (for a fun surprise, enroll in the rewards program!), and the shop vibes are very relaxed. I'm looking forward to many future visits! read more

Maps is my absolute favorite locally owned coffee shop in KC! When my wife and I aren't enjoying coffee and a cinnamon roll in the shop we are making our own espresso drinks at home using Maps' Milk Blend coffee beans. Maps searches the world for the best beans and then roasts them in small batches to ensure you always have a fresh bag. I come back monthly at a minimum to grab a fresh bag of beans. Keep an eye out for SMOAK Craft BBQ breakfast burritos. They rotate in on the occasional weekend and are to die for!! I am a sucker for the pulled pork breakfast burrito. read more

Popped in the other day for some reading. With all grace, the iced chai wasn't good at all. My first sip tasted like water. The chocolate chip cookie was okayish, but kind of gritty and dry. It's larger on the inside than I expected with plenty of seating. Nice staff and a relatively quiet space. read more

Our favorite small business coffee roaster in the area. There's hardly a day I go without having coffee from Maps. My go-to bags of coffee is the So Goji, but I like the fruity flavors presented in lighter roasts. They're good baristas too, and I really enjoy their espresso, but they also do a London fog tea that's great for an early afternoon drink. Occasionally, they'll team up with other businesses to offer delectable items, like breakfast burritos. read more

My neighbor gifted me a bag of Maps Sprint Espresso, and I knew right away I had to pay Maps a visit. It's so close to home; I can't believe I hadn't been before. The shop is so welcoming and warm, and the staff is super friendly. I enjoyed perusing the chocolate and Bloc selection and seeing what else they had to offer. Maps also offers various coffee and chocolate making experiences, which I think would be a cool to do sometime! As for the coffee... Maps Sprint Espresso (fresh ground and made from my kitchen) - I loved it for my lattes, and my husband enjoyed his Americanos. He did say that after a few days in a row, the citrus notes became a little more evident than he liked, but overall, no complaints. Lattes - I've ordered a vanilla and a honey+vanilla latte and enjoyed both. I'll definitely be back for more! read more

Tried out this coffee shop today for the first time. The barista's were nice and it was clean and spacious. It was quiet and I did not notice any music playing at the time I was there. I had an iced oatmeal latte with sugar-free caramel. The latte seemed a little bit weak on the coffee side, and unfortunately, the sugar-free syrup caused some gastrointestinal issues which happens with some sugar-free syrups at certain coffee shops. Their regular syrups may be completely fine. It is a spacious coffee shop and they sell quality coffee, which seem to be a lot of customers coming in to get. read more

Had the opportunity to try this coffee shop on the other side of the metro from where I live. Located in old downtown, there is ample parking and other cute shops and businesses to check out on the street. The owner Vinvent is a wealth of knowledge about coffee. This is a place for a coffee and chocolate aficionado. Their focus is on roasting good beans and making sure the coffee is fresh. For me. Who lives on the other side of the metro, it is worth the drive. I will be bringing Mr. G. here next time we do a coffee crawl. The coffee is good their shop. However, I've had their beans prepared at other shops and it wasn't as good, so it definitely depends on how the beans are prepared. I like their caffeine "chocolate" which seems unique. Some of their chocolate is good. I like their flavored chocolates. However, I tried a plain dark chocolate of theirs (probably the Heritage dark? I can't remember) and it was terribly, terribly sour (fruity?). I like single origin chocolate and plain dark chocolate and like to think I'm familiar with how good dark chocolate should taste, but this wasn't it. I'm happy to see an actual chocolate maker in the area, but I think I'll stick to Askinosie for now. read more

Once you try MAPS you'll never go back. I purchased a box of the cold brew a month or so ago and definitely enjoyed it, but didn't fully realize the quality until I tried to drink what I had been before. Now, I wouldn't even put MAPS in the same category. And if you talk with the owner you'll see why - his products are years in the making and he's a true expert of his craft. Ok ok we'll try them out. We told SIL that we like the dark roast coffees (ha! almost said beer). They do have different kine flavor coffees & chocolates. Ohh the specialty chocolates are to die for too! Wifey & I love their #Black coffee! Believe it or not, this is one dark roast coffee that we can drink straight black (no cream/sugar). It's smooth & ohhh soooo goooood!!! There's no bitter aftertaste. Ok so we got hooked on the #Black & haven't gone back to any other brand since. Yes, wifey orders at least 4 1# bags to get the free shipping. Yes, we get em shipped to Hawaii. We went in there the other day & picked up another 1# bag of #Black. Vincent (the owner) was surprised & happy to see me & wifey again. The other ladies working in the shop was surprised we were the ones ordering from Hawaii & that we were here visiting. Maps Coffee might be the most well-executed, technically sound cup of coffee you'll find in the metro. Maybe I'm just saying this after countless "Caffeine Crawls" and Yelp Events where we've been fortunate to see the roasting process and learn from the owner, Vincent. Or maybe it's because every time I try their coffee on-site or at home, it's just perfection in a cup. It's like a field trip for me to come out here and learn about all the coffee and handmade chocolates that they whip up. They have a rotating variety of chocolates and they're all tasty -- more of a gift idea for me than anything as I'm not the biggest chocolate guy. One of their more popular roasts is labeled "Milk" for it's smoothness and ability to pair well with milk. I like this one, but the Ethiopian and other roasts are also very good. Being an amateur geographer and a coffee and chocolate addict I knew I needed to drive out to Lenexa to check out Maps; especially after seeing so many 5 star reviews from Yelp Friends. The atmosphere offers a small town vibe with an organic DYI feel. They roast their own beans which provided me a smooth Cortado that totally altered my afternoon sluggishness. My buddy was equally impressed with his cappuccino. They also start with the raw cocoa bean to create a variety of chocolate bars. I sampled the sweet 60%, but took home a more darker and bitter 80% to keep my wife from eating my $10 bar of decadence. Maps will be a reason to jump off I-35 anytime I'm in JoCo in the future. read more

First of all, I love that I can walk here. The "old town" Lenexa area is so quaint and I wish more cool businesses would emerge! The owner here is such a nice guy and always has a big smile. We attended the block party/ concert that MAPS coffee hosted this past Friday night and it was such a blast! The band was really good.There were tons of families with small kids so we fit right in. The chocolate is so good here too and would be perfect for gifts. Please do more of these type of events! I remember when MAPS was just a storefront and didn't sell cups of coffee to now there are couches and it's a coffee shop not just to sell coffee beans! I always love the vibe in there too. read more
