Yos is where I got to get donuts. They sell out EVERY SINGLE DAY and there's a good reason for it. Every single donuts is made with the best ingredients and with total care and dedication. Matthew Yos immigrated to the USA from Cambodia and decided to work hard to build a successful business. This concept could have led to a chain of donut shops, but that is not what he decided to do. He simply worked to perfect his craft along with his wife and daughter (who is now in line to take it over with her husband) and everybody owes it to themselves to sample it. The "hole in the wall" concept applies a bit here as it's not about fancy, shiny store fronts, but about tasty, beautiful donuts in a great variety of colors, shapes, and sizes. The coffee is fresh and for someone looking for something more hearty, there are breakfast burritos. I cannot recommend this shop any more than this. You have not tried high quality donuts until you have set foot in Yos. read more

After a walk at Shawnee Mission Park, my friend wanted to check this place out. By the time I entered, (around 11:30 AM), there were only about 2 dozen pastries left in the display case. My friend somehow managed to "convince" me to have one of the dozen she bought. I had the double chocolate [cake] donut--it was delicious! So soft and delectable, very fresh tasting. The icing was tasty, too! Not too sweet, and not waxy either. They've been there for about 20 years (& I'm just now visiting??) and they've gotten a few awards. Note to self: This establishment shares parking with Eggtc., Minsky's, a liquor store, gas station and a couple other businesses so parking on a late Sunday morning is iffy at best. It would appear that there is limited seating there and might be considered a grab and go type deal, but I'm not sure--it's a small venue though. Well finally I got to go to Yos donuts after reading about it in many reviews . This place is tugged in , in the middle of strip mall so you really can miss it . The owner is super nice and friendly , he said he's been there for 16 years .. I got the breakfast burrito with bacon and not to disappoint with the salsa , the tortilla is so soft and there are lots of fillings in every bites . I also got a long john and a cake donut so I can really try all the variety of donuts . The cake donut is so moist and soft and scrumptious, it literally is my favorite. The long John is just ok , the dough is a Little chewy and not as soft but doable . SO there .. get yourself some breakfast burrito and a cake donut.. your stomach will thank you ! read more

My raspberry filled donut ($1.09) was delicious, and a little doughy, with a good amount of filling. The service at the counter was helpful and cheerful, while the dining area was spartan, but clean. These are the best breakfast burritos I have ever eaten in my life. When I used to work for a bank my supervisor would get them all the time. You gotta get there early or they can sell out. I get the egg ad bacon breakfast burritos. They have one with sausage and one without anything. And they have a red sauce to dip them in I have no idea what is in the sauce but it is heavenly. They have some of the best donuts that I have had too. They are fluffy and thick, I hate Krispy Kreme with their sugar air donuts. These are the real deal and they don't taste too oily. While in the Lenexa area, I was lucky enough to be directed to Yos Donuts by a friend. A tiny store wedged in the middle of a quiet strip, I wasn't sure what to expect. However, I'm so glad I gave this place a try. Yos is a gem. Their donuts are to die for. Their breakfast burritos are seriously the best, little burritos I've had in a while. Been here a few times. It's a good place to go after a hike/ run at Shawnee Mission Park. It's very close by. The donuts are tasty and compared to chain shops very cheap for what you get. The coffee is ok. The staff is friendly. And there is typically a place to sit in the shop. read more

This place is a little family run donut shop that happens to also have breakfast burritos. I'm a donut guy so this review is strictly about donuts, which are fairly good. I got here around 920 am on a friday and was pleasantly happy there were still a good variety of mostly raised and some cake donuts left. Your best bet is the apple fritter which are just the right size of crunch and doughy interior while having a strong cinnamon apple flavor. Couple things that I perceived with Yos raised donuts are they are slightly more doughy and there is a handcut uniqueness to their shape. The prices were very affordable with a dozen donuts coming in at $8.39 ($9.20 with tax) and they take credit cards unlike some of the older donut shops. So if you are in the neighborhood of western Shawnee and looking for a good quick breakfast or a box of donuts for the office, Yos is the place to go. read more

Ignore the first review from the clueless Californian that refers to this area as "very rural". It's not exactly urban, but that person clearly doesn't know what rural is (or suburban for that matter). Given their 2 star rating of Yo's, that reviewer also doesn't know what good donuts are. For a review from someone who does, dear yelpers, read on. Yo's is a very straight-forward donut shop. They do there thing and they do it well. There are no red-velvet cake donuts that will cause you to have bizarrely sexual dreams about them like you find at Lamar's. This is a small, family run operation that sells primarily yeast-leavened donuts. The only cake donut I have seen there is an old fashioned, which is fine with me because that's easily my favorite, and theirs is a thing of beauty. The donuts here are fresh, and they are good. Soft and velvety with just a little bit of a crust. They aren't smothered in glaze like Krispy Kreme does, but rather nicely balanced. I appreciate the clean, balanced nature of their offerings, and I would hope others agree with me. If Yo's only sold donuts I would give them high 3, maybe four stars. Their donuts are solid and consistent, and they do a really good job with my favorite. Generally, I only give an establishment five stars if they have something extra. In this case that extra is breakfast burritos. They basically make two kinds: with bacon and without. They are cheap, and just big enough so that you feel satisfied, but if you have one with a donut you don't feel like you're over-eating. Well, I don't. :) These little burritos aren't anything "authentic" by any standard, but they are fucking delicious. Regular (sausage, egg, & cheese) and with bacon are $1.35 and $1.55, respectively. As you might have guessed, I always spring for the bacon. So if you like your donuts straightforward, consistent, and awesome, go to Yo's. If you like your donuts to put you into a diabetic coma, keep going to Krispy Kreme. If you expect your donut shop to regale you with bizarre and creative confections like bacon maple bars, go to Portland, because Voodoo donuts is probably the only place you'll really like. This can't be the same place in the first review. Shawnee is a suburb of Kansas City, hardly in a rural part of Kansas. Yo's is well known locally for their breakfast burritos, always a great option. My kids love their donut holes and they have many different kinds of donuts, including cherry, lemon and other flavors of pinecones, which I've never heard of before getting them here. Cake donuts, turnovers, long johns (filled or not) and raised donuts (maple or chocolate ice or not) galore. Service is always fast, it is a mom and pop operation, the owners (originally from Laos, iirc) are the only ones I've ever seen working there. The only problem with selection is if you get there in the late morning, when selection can dwindle, they try to sell everything they make for the day. A great stop for breakfast and to chat with the local clientele. read more

Here's I what I think happened he stayed in that Hampton Inn after flying in to KCI one night and driving down 435 from the airport and waking up in that parking lot after all that you might wonder where the hell you were. Little did he know that he was really not far from a lot of options. And the Yo's are actually a great option. He is right in that there are not a lot of variety in donuts. But what they do, they do very well. I cannot imagine intentially choosing a Krispy Kreme over this. He should have grabbed a breakfast burrito as well. Very basic donuts with a variety of like six types. Nothing really appetizing but the prices are cheap. They do have some hot items as well like breakfast burritos and Klorches. Stopped in for a quick donut fix. Ordered a chocolate bar and apple fritter. The chocolate bar had good frosting, not overly sweet, but left the ends uncovered. It was thick and doughy style that I like. The apple fritter was disappointing...flat and not very flavorful. The shop display wasn't filled and it was 9am. I didn't have time to take a picture before my kids had dived into their sprinkle donuts. I followed their lead and we enjoyed them - so delicious and fluffy. Quite a variety available. Not really a coffee shop atmosphere, but what genuine, family-run donut shop is? (I think they may even own the Chinese restaurant next door). This is a preference review. Yo's had plenty of donuts when I arrived early on a weekday morning. I chose the apple fritter. It was clearly freshly made, but not exactly my preference in an apple fritter. John's Space Age has ruined all other fritters for me; Yos was good and I can see folks preferring it. The coffee was old and in a Bunn brand pot on a hot plate. Not something I would get again. Compared to other tiny donut shops in town (Lamars, the other place on Johnson drive and Space Age) this one had no charm or other redeeming factors. The woman behind the counter was on the phone for the duration of my visit, so I couldn't even get an endearing smarmy vibe. If you don't love their donuts, this place has nothing else to offer. I'll go back to Yos for a breakfast burrito and the other donuts to give it a shot. However, the two things that are important to me in a donut place were lacking.
