So happy to be reviewing this place. We discovered Jack's a few years ago. Since then every donut we eat is judged based on theirs. They are always very friendly and kind to their costumers. The place isn't fancy by any means, but with donuts like these, you only need a napkin and your mouth! Best donuts I've ever had. I don't like cake donuts anywhere else, but they are my favorite donuts at Jacks. It's a one man operation, with the nicest gentleman ever running it. Sometimes he doesn't have the one you're looking for, if he's not busy he'll make them fresh for you. Sometimes they sell out and close early, that's how small businesses work. It's not a corporate shop. The donuts are made with love and care. I know he's getting older and I'm scared he's going to retire soon, so If you haven't tried Jacks, don't wait. Excellent! Old school taste, but in a really good way. Donut holes were light with a generous glaze. Old fashioned had a nice crunch.

Absolutely worth the drive, wherever you are. They make the most delicious, airy donuts and their glaze is sweetened perfectly. I legit can't bring myself to spend money on donuts anywhere else. The guys that run the shop are the nicest people you will ever meet, they will go all the way out of their way to make sure you're getting exactly what you ask for, and most of the time, more! I havent been here in years! Just as good a I remember as a kid. Fresh donuts that just melt in your mouth. Friendly people as well. A well hidden gem in the Independence area. The pricing to me isnt bad. I got a dozen donuts for $17. Well worth if you ask me. They even threw in some fresh donut Hope's just because my it was my fiance's first time there! I returned, and it seemed like a different place. Extra dirty inside. The glass looking into donut cabinet was filthy. They only had a handful of donuts made and the ones I bought were dry. I was all excited about having another amazing apple fritter, but I couldn't even finish it due to it being so dry. I know Covid has had a major impact on small places like this. I go by here atleast once every other week. It's conveniently located near one of the Hy-Vee's that houses Community America Bank. Jack's has been at the same location since 1969. I usually stop in around 8 a.m. 8 a.m. is a little late to get all of the donut goodness, but I still find a nice collection of sweetness. For example: Apple fritters, cinnamon twists, chocolate covered bavarian cream filled, white coconut frosted, cinnamon crunch topped and the melt in your mouth donut holes. I can vouch for the donut holes being both my dog's and my son's favorites (not that I would ever give my dog a whole donut hole, he scratches my arm off every time I eat one.) They melt in my mouth. The cake donuts are chewy, cake like texture without grease. Full of softness and topped with fresh beautiful topping. Oh my gawd they are good. I like this donut shop as he often doesn't charge the extra for a "fancy donut" or if he does, he throws in a couple of donut holes. There's also coffee, and such. The interior is scant. This place is REALLY awful. Jack's just isn't any good at all. Their glazed donuts both look and taste like wax movie props. I stop by here now and then for a non-major chain doughnut. Today I just ordered a strawberry doughnut and a bottle of milk on the way to work. It cost me $3. When I got to work and opened my sack, I found 2 glazed doughnut holes in the sack, in addition to the strawberry doughnut! I used to go here daily in High school. It was on the way to school and the doughnuts where the best around. Krispy Creme, Dunken Doughnuts, and Lamars have nothing on this place. After high school I started college it wasn't on the way to either campus. So I hadn't been there for almost a year, and got a craving for them. I walk in and the owner is looking at me and Grins saying. "Where have you been I haven't seen you in for so long." That is customer Service. Remembering customers and being able to start a conversation. I love this shop and hope others will come here and enjoy it too. To the health food junkie reviewer, of course to you it's going to taste like a mouthful of grease, because you haven't had anything deep fried in shortening or oil in general. So eating something that has been cooked that way after eating "healthy" for an extended period of time is going to seem that way. The yeast donuts are an absolute delight considering Independence is plagued with so few local donut shops. This place is great. Get there early if you want selection. The fritters are the same as Winchell's! The owner is the brother of Oz's MAQ which closed but the donuts are very similar. I go in to jacks donuts at least once a week as i work extremely close. Im not much of a donut eater, i usually just go in to get a soda. He asked me if i have tried any donuts and i told him i had not.
