Two very different sushi portions, each priced $7.49.

It's frustrating that when Siki isn't open on Monday, I turned to HyVee on Rice Rd. for a couple of sushi rolls and paid more... Only, I don't get more; in fact, the two servings we got were pretty inconsistent. Notice that there's no salmon in the piece on the lower right. I guess the girl was new... I tend to think sushi making requires a bit of skill. HyVee, maybe just keep skilled workers at your sushi station and pay them well, since you charge more than Siki.

My only complaint is the serious lack of organic food. We use Natural Grocers mostly. Sprouts does have some

Probably still my favorite grocery store in Lee's Summit and I'm so glad the remodeling is finally over.

However, they are way overpriced for staples. A dozen eggs from Vital at more than $10 is absurd. I dig Vital's eggs & butter, high quality & 3d party tested, but not at that price. My big complaint was the young lady working the register today, I'd drop a name but she didn't have a name tag on. She greeted the lady in front of me and was polite to her. When I got up, I received no greeting, no smile, nothing. There was an older couple behind me, she was friendly and engaged them as I was paying, offering suggestions to their issue. After I paid, she handed me my receipt, didn't thank me for spending my money there, didn't wish me a nice day. I gave her plenty of opportunities. I took my receipt, smiled at her and told her to have a wonderful day. Didn't cost me anything extra and it is a simple thing to do. Although, I wonder if my frosty reception was due to the fact I was wearing a Gulf of America trucker hat?

Though curiously, they do not have actual Sriracha sauce. They have some imitations, but not the real thing. All of the shelves are faced beautifully, and everything is well cared for. We have enjoyed many of the items we have purchased here and never had a problem. They have a good selection of wine, spirits, and beer, as well as groceries and other things. I would have to deduct a star because sometimes the workers are not very friendly, willing to help or, interested in improvements. One night we went there, and there was no usable toilet in the women's room, so my wife had to use the men's room. They were aware of it, and no one took any action.

I will have to make a greater effort to explore the rest of the store and eatery. The service was prompt and excellent. The environment is clean and bright. And the bakery offers these outstanding cakes. 5" cakes and 8" cakes. The 5" are perfect for a small party and delicious. When I need a cake, this is my go-to place. In addition, McKeever has Tippins Pies. They have petifores and maccrons. We picked up a croissant, a scone, and a cheese danish in addition to the double mudslide cake. This is my go-to upscale grocer. I see that they offer online ordering and pick up. I am going to have to try that.

Aldi's All Right With Me!…read more I had never even heard of Aldi until moving back to the area 12 years ago, but with one exactly one mile from my new home I felt I needed to check it out. Thanks to a remodeling a couple of years ago, the parking lot is well maintained, marked, and accessible. That is where you meet with their ingenious way of collecting shopping carts: to release one from where they are all stored. You need to insert a quarter into a latch that chains it to the others. When you finish shopping and return your cart, your quarter is returned after you latch the chain to your cart! Costs are kept low without the need to assign labor chasing carts around the parking lot, or replacing carts that are stolen or damaged by traffic. Their logic is amazing! The store is always clean inside, and isles are wide enough for shoppers to pass each other. Another cost saving policy is not providing paper or plastic bags - you are expected to bring your own! They will sell you a bag at a reasonable cost if you have to have one. Oh, and you do need to "bag" your purchases yourself. Not providing bags or labor at the check out keeps their cost lower. Those savings are passed on to customers. On first pass, Aldi looks to me like an oversized Quick Trip rather than a super market. That does drive a slight reduction in stock, but selection is usually adequate. Balancing that is things like wine are priced better than anywhere else in town. In fact, it is the only place I go to for table wines. I am rarely familiar with the wineries, but have never been disappointed with any selection. The also have a number of frozen food items that are very tasty and reasonably priced. In the end I do plan for stopping by one of the super stores for an average of four or five items (e.g., distilled water, selected produce, and specific brands) each week. The only low note has been the short shelf life of berries and the like. With their low prices and helpful staff, Aldi continues to be all right with me!
