I have been calling this the "new" HY-Vee since their recent remodel. It has a brighter "feel" than it had in the past. And with their separate area for their grocery pick up service, congestion has been reduced in the parking lot. I do appreciate their drive through pharmacy as it also reduces congestion inside the store. And a high score for me is that their gas station carries "No Alcohol" fuel (premium pumps only) for the better health of my vehicles fuel systems. On to the store. The demise of their Market Grille was a loss that could be seen coming. When it first opened it rivaled many area sit down restaurants. But as others were opened the original manager was reassigned and service and food dropped off in quality - and continued to drop. It has been replaced by something called Wahlbuger that lacks the menu and service of the past. Their prepared food (I think of it as a cafeteria) has a few highlights like breakfasts and reasonable BBQ (in Kansas City "reasonable" far outweighs very good in most of the rest of the country), along with prepackaged fruit. Starbucks has a stand in the front of the store with all their usual offerings, but across the isle at that snack bar, coffee is available at a much lower cost, and in my opinion, with much better taste and free refills. But to each his own. The Pharmacy is yet another high point. I like the fact that they will send texts when a prescription is ready and that you can manage your prescriptions online. During high demand times they provide curbside flu and COVID-19 shots. I have always found the pharmacy staff to be professional, friendly, and helpful. Smiles can go a long way when you are picking up a prescription called in by your doctor - you likely are not feeling your best at times like that and I appreciate their understanding. I have always found the store clean and well stocked. Their selection is equal or better than other area stores, and their butcher shop staff always goes out of their way to assure you have the most desirable and affordable cuts of meat. Throughout the store the staff is almost always available to assist in locating hard to find items. But being an "Employee Owned" business there appears to be a pride in being part of the business. I like that. Understanding that this is the highest trafficked store in the chain, they still are able to move customers through very efficiently while maintaining good attitudes and customer service. That all said, my opinion is that this is the best (or at least my favorite) Hy-Vee in town. read more

I shop here only for a few items and only because of the proximity to my home. Overall, I don't necessarily like Hy-Vee, it seems that their store has not gone out of their way to retain my business any meaningful way. My biggest critique is your signage is typically wrong on your sale items. And then when I try to get them to honor or adjust the price to match the advertised price, they make me feel like a I am in the wrong and that I'm trying to rip them off when they are the ones who set the sale price. read more

Overall similar to other Hy-vee stores but the problem is that in general, Hy-vee has raised their prices so high that they are not even close with other stores anymore. Had shopped there for over 30 years but now go elsewhere due to the significantly higher prices. The other issue is that the prices vary pretty significantly depending on which store you go to. Biggest issue is that they have so much variety they do not stock sufficient of the staples. The number of times i come after work and they are out if popular items like bread, flour or other staples is ridiculous. Not they have other brands and varieties but clearly repeatedly run out of certain items to which they do not increase the stock. I guess they plan on relying on customer accepting an alternative. The young lady couldn't get anything right, she ask me for the name at least twice then the dob about 3 times and please confirm the telephone number. It probably took 10 minutes before she could figure out what prescription I was picking up. Then when she didn't even say have a nice day or anything. It's a decent enough place the only bad thing about it is the lack of Dr Bob. If you grew up on food stamps you likely lived off this particular knockoff soda and its become a core part of my life. Only, I don't get more; in fact, the two servings we got were pretty inconsistent. Notice that there's no salmon in the piece on the lower right. I guess the girl was new... The remodel is almost finished and it's a great improvement. The liquor store is larger and has a better selection. Now the store it's as nice as the newer locations I was used to shopping. This location still has horrible parking. Yes they improved the flow, but the lot is too small for this size of store. The selection of HyVee produce, breads, meats are always excellent. I couldn't find the Tumaro tortillas I'm used to buying though. Next time I'll ask where they put them. I really don't understand why HyVee doesn't carry the larger sizes of Skippy natural peanut butter, but I've checked and their warehouse doesn't stick it The lighting and style are so much nicer, and the polished concrete floors give it a modern look. I thought the customer service counter was bland but maybe they realized the old ones were over signed and confusing, but they may have gone too far with the beige paint. This was my pharmacy. Now there seems to be new management here. I had three vaccinations in the last two weeks. While I asked specifically, they were not upfront about possible side effects when taking the 3rd Covid booster and flu shot together. I was pretty sick for two days. Then returning for a Shingrix vaccine the next week, I was told the flu shot and covid vaccine together significantly increases the risk of fever, fatigue, et.al. Then, after paying $200 for my shnigrix shot, the pharmacist giving the shot asked if she could charge me again. Evidently customer relations is not the new managements strong point. This review is for the HyVee Liquor store. in general, with regards to booze, HyVee really delivers above and beyond what I expect from a commercial grocery store. They bring the goods. They provide an in depth, diverse, selection of every hard booze you can think of. But this location, this location even has the obscure hard to find stuff. St. Germain, specialty flavored brandies, and I swear every version and brand of Vodka you could possibly want. In this same place there is single malt scotch, good stuff too not just Glenfiddich. No Wild Turkey Rye, but they'll get it in on request. Mixers? They got'em. Paper umbrellas? I'm sure they do. Orgeat syrup? I don't know, probably not, but no one else does either. You know the best part? It's reasonably priced. Yep, that's right. The prices are as good or better than others and way cheaper than the mom and pop shops just down the street and way better stocked. Price is important when you're buying booze with the handle on the side of the bottle. You have to hand it to them. And yeah, someone told me they sell groceries in there too. read more

This Hy-Vee has been renovated in the past couple years, and it is absolutely gorgeous inside!! There are so many different little "shops" - places to get food to-go, dine in, or order for catering! I placed my order online, and requested my order be ready at 8:45 am. However, when I showed up they were running behind, and didn't have my order ready for me. But, they were really quick to act and gave me the part of my order I needed the fastest, and told me they would deliver the rest of my order to the location of my event! Just 15 minutes after I arrived and started setting up my event they showed up with the rest of my order, and a free box of deluxe donuts (2 dozen!!!!). The donuts were a huge hit, as well as everything else I ordered. I would definitely have them cater again, because even if they mess up they will go above and beyond to make it right and serve their customers! read more

This is my usual Hy-Vee store, although I like the one in Belton the best. Their selection is huge, but there are often two or three product brands I cannot find. They don't carry Red Gold Tomato products or Bumble Bee tuna products. Their Cafe is not as cozy as the Belton store cafe and they don't have the gas station. What I really LOVE about this store is the PHARMACY. Have been using the Hy-Vee Rice Road pharmacy for several years now. They do the generic drug discount and work well with our insurance. The pharmacy staff is very helpful and knowledgeable. I am also a coupon shopper and Hy-Vee for the most part does a good job of redeeming my coupons. I do prefer this Lee's Summit store to the one on Ward Road because it is just more helpful and friendly. I also like the variety of people they have hired as associates. read more

Probably still my favorite grocery store in Lee's Summit and I'm so glad the remodeling is finally over. The store is huge although the isles seem too narrow - there are frequently bottlenecks and backups in the aisles. Some of these are due to people who don't seem to understand they aren't the only ones in the store but other times it's just that two people with carts going in the opposite direction need to stop at the same section and... everyone is stuck. I have to say I am still underwhelmed with their prepared foods from their restaurants and especially unimpressed with their bakery products. I've bought several items that **look** good but taste like canned, greasy frosting with a tasteless crumb. Still the store is really nice and best of all, there are employees walking around to ask where things are located. I'm sure there is logic to where some of the items are, I just don't know what it is. read more

This Hy Vee of course sells groceries and the like. Their organic section is tops, their liquor section is a whole store in itself, and their bakery is full of tempting sugary, made-to-order yummy carbs. The staff is crazy friendly and the extra features of the place - Kansas sport shop, post office, florist, dry cleaning, and RedBox just about make it perfection. But there is another reason to shop here - not just for food to make at home, but for their Salad Bar and Deli! This Hy Vee has a whole cafe on the left side of the store - with windows overlooking a little lake and tons of seating. I'll admit, we've gone on date nights here. But how can you resist their AMAZING selection of fresh fruit, pasta salads, CAKE and desserts and whip cream, and of course all the yummy stuff you like on a salad. Best of all - once a year they have an all-you-can-eat deal for $5.99. Don't mind if I do eat here two nights in a row...! The Chinese, Hot Deli, Pizza, and Sushi counters are also great and offer daily meal deals. In short - no one can complain about a total lack of vegetarian food in Lee's Summit when even Hy Vee offers a ton of ready-to-eat, salad bar, hot and deli foods with a cute little cafe overlooking a lake. I heart you, Hy Vee. Oh, and don't forget Friday night wine tasting.....! read more

The new store is very nice looking and the non management staff is always excellent. Most of the kinks with the new store have been resolved. The one thing that is very noticeable is that they place the products in locations to force you to walk around and see more advertising, much less convenient. The biggest pluses for me are the in house breads and sushi. The biggest negative is the placement of products scattered all over the store in less than intuitive locations. They are adding Apple Pay, a big plus. read more

Despite being my "neighborhood grocery store" Hyvee always seems to fall short of expectations. Although the employees are friendly, one of my first experiences at this store upon moving to the area from out of state, was the cashier stealing my debit card while I was dealing with my crying child. He then rang up about $2000 in charges at local gas stations, purchased gift cards at Hyvee and hit Independence center for a shopping spree. Management handled the situation decently which is why I still sometimes shop there and decided on a 3 & not a 1. Guard your wallets people. That being said...my more recent concerns are about the quality of produce, seafood and prices. Today (and many times before) I've had to pick through moldy produce. Gross. I have also accidentally purchased expired dairy - always check dates. Additionally, it isn't uncommon to get a thumb through a yogurt lid compliments of a teenage curtesy clerk. I've purchased salmon once and had return it that very day as it was stinky and rancid. The lady at the counter was really rude and unapologetic. She acted disgusted in me that I was returning rotten fish sold by her store a few hours before. Finally, as a family that eats natural foods (with one member gluten free) the health mart is a convenience in LS. The prices are high so I don't make a habit of stocking up here. On a positive note: This location does offer generous gas rewards which I appreciate. You receive cents off per gallon for specific foods. They also have a cool kids cooking class once a month that is fun and extremely reasonable (under ten bucks) led by the store dietician. They also have a decent store chef who whips up healthy salads and dips that are sold in the ready-made section. Finally, they offer locally grown produce (seasonally). I purchased some tasty looking green beans today. They also randomly have events selling BBQ or taco salads. read more

I just moved to the Kansas City area, so my wife and I searched out all of the local places for groceries. This place is the best in Lee's Summit by far! I was amazed at the selection of the produce, organic, beer, and BBQ sauce. They also help with non-profit organizations in the community. The sale prices will impress everyone. I've gone here for 10 years and it's my favorite grocery store in Lee's Summit. It's not the fanciest place or largest or most updated as far as decor. They make up for that with the helpfulness of the staff, and good prices in general. I deduct one point from an otherwise 5 star review for the following reasons, which are fairly minor. First, I live in a nearby neighborhood and ride my cargo bicycle to the store. There is not really a good bicycle parking area, and there could be with a little effort. It makes no sense to drive my car a mile to this location, but it would be nice if there was a good dedicated bike area. Secondly, they finally caved in with the goofy fuel saver card crap. For the longest time, they avoided this and I loved that about HyVee. Recently, they went to this fuel saver card stuff and now every time you go in you get prompted to join fuel saver, etc. I think it was Consumer Reports who did a study on this gimmick and found that you actually pay more at grocery stores with these screwball programs than at those without. So, I was bummed to see that they finally jumped on the reward points bandwagon. That aside, it's a good store. One time I asked for Bob's Red Mill products, which they didn't carry. Shortly thereafter, they started to stock what I asked for. Nice level of responsiveness, and appreciated. Good work overall. A great wine and liquor selection if you're into that. One word of caution to HyVee...lately I've noticed that Costco's produce might be a little nicer, and that the cheese in your case is a little dried out and shriveled-looking. Don't let this become a trend. Stay on your toes with the details. read more

I've always liked this Hy-Vee. It's an older one - I was going here when I lived in Lee's Summit about 20 years ago. They've stayed current but have a very limited healthy section. Your standard vegetarian fare is tough to find here - let alone vegan essentials. If that's your thing - you're better off trying Price Chopper a bit further down 291 - or give up entirely on Lee's Summit grocery stores for specialty goods and get your stuff somewhere else. read more

I typically go to the 3rd Street location in Lee's Summit, because it's closer to home, but at times, other chores take me to the 291/Rice Road end of things. This store always seems to be the one that goes all out on the samples, and I'm not sure if their dairy section is truly more extensive, or is just arranged in such a way that it seems more extensive than the other store. Staff at HyVees are generally pretty friendly and accommodating (helpful smile in every aisle, right?), but at this location, I have had a rougher time with the helpful part...not that the people aren't nice, but at times, quite confused. Case in point...I was there recently looking for a certain locally-made product, and had been directed specifically to this location to procure it (Pieroguys pierogies, for those who care...and, no, Mrs. Ts won't cut it). Had a hard time finding them, although I've seen them there before. Had a hard time finding an empty shelf where they might have conceivably been sold out from, as well. Asked guy stocking freezer section. He says, "Nope, we don't stock 'em." I check online indicator again, which notes, that, yeah, they supposedly stock 'em. I do not argue this with stocking guy. I go to customer service and inquire. Guy there says, "Oh, yeah, we stock 'em," and gestures down the aisle I was just in. "They should be down there," he says, and vanishes. Nope. Frozen ravioli is, though. I trek to the organics section freezer, thinking that maybe they've wound up there. Nope. But lady stocking freezer there assures me that they have them...walks me back to the same place I've already revisted twice during my visit. Again, they are nowhere to be found. I go home emptyhanded. Sadness ensues. This would only be a minor annoyance, but for the fact that I had gone there specifically for said product. Bummer. Frozen foods misadventures notwithstanding, it's a decent store...I still prefer HyVee to Price Chopper. But surely there must be a better way to check inventory. read more

This Hy-Vee is clean, friends, and well stocked. The reason I ding it is because it is always crowded, almost does not matter when you go in. It is well stocked, but that is also because they always seem to be stocking all day every day, which adds to the crowding. The parking lot always seems to be a pain in the butt because it is always crowded. read more

I was very disappointed to see the champagne I normally buy was $4.00 higher at this hyvee compared to the hyvee I normally shop at. When I ask the manager why this was he stated " I don't know what to tell you, maybe your hyvee got a special deal." And walk off. Not the customer service I expected. Needless to say I will never shop at this hyvee again. I will continue to give my business to the one off 50 HWY and Gregory or 40 HWY and Noland. They no how to treat people right! read more
