I recently thought that this Hy-Vee store to shop around for a few items since I was staying in the area for a couple of nights. This place was pretty immense. I really enjoyed its beer cave attached to the store which featured a wide selection of Fine Wines and a small selection of my favorite non-alcoholic drinks. Shopping wise, this place featured a great deal of grocery items and the staff here was absolutely friendly and helpful at the same time. There's a little bit of construction going on too which should be over in the next couple of days. Items are a little bit pricey for my standards but it nearly has everything that I look forward in a grocery store. This place is usually pretty packed with the parking lot and as you may have to park pretty far and walk a bit to get to the store. But checking out surprisingly is pretty quick. read more

I enjoy shopping at this store. On my way home from work, I call my wife every day and ask if she wants me to stop at the store. There is a friendly smile in every aisle, and I like talking to the people who work here. Every department is well-stocked and well-run. If you have questions, people are right there to help you. The wine and beverage center is a great place to stop and shop. One day, I hope Ralph will remember me. read more

We recently moved to the area, and have been looking around for a grocery store that we like. So far we have found three! I really like Hy-Vee for produce, frozen food and especially their meat department. I don't think I will buy meat anywhere else. The folks working the butcher counter are incredibly knowledgeable and very helpful. I love that. There's also a liquor store attached to this grocery store. They have a very nice deli as well. We were able to buy some Chiefs items and Royals hats in the fan store inside. That was pretty cool. I think my favorite feature about this store is that they are all employee owned. Love this location even though I live in Overland Park. Shelves are stocked, the store is clean & there are always plenty of cashiers. So far, this is also the Market Grille we prefer especially on Thursday Steak Special night. We also like the wine & liquor tastings. I was treated unequally by the Hy-Vee corporation and its employees and when I opposed the treatment of discrimination I was retaliated against by the employees and the security guard "Tammy". My money was checked for counterfeit two times and my white husband decided to attempt to purchase items from this public accommodation, and his money was NOT checked for counterfeit. I then opposed the discrimination and public humiliation and Tammy the security guard escorted me off the premises and shared with me her thoughts about my race in which she described me as an angry, accusatory and loud. I did not scream at any time while opposing the harassment and hatred, I never used any profanity while opposing the company and its employees unlawful discriminatory behavior and retaliation enforcement. I am a black woman. I video taped the entire unequal treatments of white customers, treatment versus a black customer unequal treatment. The Missouri Human Rights Act makes it illegal for places of public accommodation to deny access to or treat someone unequally because of an individual's race, color, religion, national origin, ancestry, sex, or disability. I go to the Pharmacy in Lee's Summit on Rice at least a couple times a month and every time more and more uncomfortable. It's chaos you have people all over the place nobody knows where to stand. Evidently all the employees are hard of hearing because I have to the repeat the name and /or the DOB several times. I feel like I'm in a third world country pharmacy it just feels dirty. At least we've trained the employees to check to see if the Good Rx is better than the insurance card. read more

I stopped at Hyvee to get some things for my Dad myself and a friend for a football party. I noticed the security guy following me in a threatening manner when I had done nothing to warrant such behavior. I was meeting my friend when she got off work but she hadn't arrived yet. I went to a checkout with an extra cart so I could pay for my 2 orders and I did so and paid $400. Still no sign of her and security is standing in the isle watching everything I do. Normally you would ask the employee working the checkout to watch your cart you need to run to car for debit card or hey I can't get these groceries I don't have enough money but no employee around. I didn't want to leave a cart full of groceries at checkout and security watching made me panic. I pulled the 2 carts her items were not bagged just in the 2nd cart, there was an employee at the entrance and I called my friend who was almost there but I told her I could run to my car and get my debit card and pay if needed. I then asked the employee to watch my 2 carts he said ok I pushed them over to the side so I wasn't blocking the entrance and here came security saying I had 4 packs of hamburger and only paid for 2 which didn't happen I actually paid twice for 3 items. With that I was charged with stealing the items in the cart which I never said I had paid for because I hadn't but also never left the store. If there had been a worker at checkout this would have had a different ending since they would known the situation and offered a solution since I was unsure at this point. I had no intention of stealing groceries that weren't even mine, I had just paid for mine and knew the security was watching everything I did so what kind of idiot would steal something when I paid for mine and could have left her items but it was several items to leave sit in the middle of nowhere and couldn't put items back because I had my cart with my items that were paid for. I was called a liar and taken to jail and my friend showed up a text me where are you.I will not say I did something I did not do and have contacted HyVee personal but got little to no help as you are deemed guilty and they are not going to admit that they wrongfully accused anyone. I wouldn't want anyone else to go through such humiliation but now you see how you are profiled and accused of something far from the truth. read more

We were a little reluctant to have dinner at the Market Grille, because of a few bad reviews and honestly because it's in a grocery store. So glad we decided to try it! The service was excellent, Tanner was helpful with ordering, friendly, attentive and ensured we got out in time for an appointment(the place was packed). The food was excellent, we did a 2 for $20 special. Spicy jalapeño bacon wontons, so good! Monte Cristo with sweet potato fries and the tenderloin w/ bacon n bleu potatoes. Portions were huge and the presentation gave the impression that we were at a very fancy restaurant. All for $20! I can without a doubt say that this place is much better than Houlihan's down the road. Great value for the price and awesome specials every night. They even have a fully stocked bar(next time). I've shopped at this particular Hy-Vee many times. And perhaps that's what I should have continued to do, shop for my own items. I tried the online shop the aisle feature and I guarantee I will never ever use that service again. First off, if I certain item is not available then the online should reflect that...I.e. sold out, unavailable, not at this location...something, anything so that customers aren't wasting time ordering items that only Hy-Vee knows they don't have. Oh but wait, I get my order, what-do-you-know, I'm missing items. I check my email and they did send confirmation that the item was not on stock,AFTER I arrived at the store. I had a couple more items to get, oh wow, what do I see, the same item (frozen) they the store stated was sold out was in fact available. Very strange seeing how it was a cold item which means it was not anything they pulled from the shelf hours or the day before. Let's move on to the molded bell pepper they sent home with me. Yes molded! It was clearly molded on the outside which should have been enough for the individual that bagged the item to understand, if its molded on the outside ...ding dong, it's surly molded on the inside. read more

I love the new uniforms we have (we wear slacks, black shoes, and a long sleeve button up). I believe it is more professional looking and the new restaurant we have along with a "minute clinic" that Saint Luke's Hospital operates we have never been better! I stopped in this Hy Vee a couple times over the holidays when I was visiting family. Nothing is more annoying to me than going to a new grocery store and not know where anything is located. Thankfully, the employees at Hy Vee are some of the nicest and most helpful grocers I have ever met! First, the produce man helped me find the English cucumbers. He didn't stop there, he picked through all the cucumbers to find me the best one. Second, the reason I am writing the review is because of the butcher. My mom was standing at the meat counter deciding whether she should buy the beef tenderloin with the fat on it or pay the extra $10 a lb which in our case would have been $60. The butcher saw my mom debating what to do and he told her forget about it, he would trim the fat and not charge her the higher price. When he was finished he carried it out into the store and delivered it to my mom. The employees make this store and if I lived in the area I would be here a couple times a week! read more

Sadly the Market Grill area will again fail. Just like before whoever schedules the area seems to failed. They just opened-after renovations. We went in to eat and have a beer before shopping. Gal was behind the bar but said the taps were not working and the bottled canned stuff was locked and they did not have a key. Well not a great way to manage a business. She mumbled something about the bartender not showing up? Seriously there is only one person in a store that size that can run this area? The "Ward Road Special" is a 1/2 pound cheese-burger, Sweet-potato fries and a beer for $6.99. Tuesday evening, July 10, 2018, the platter hit the table with a full side of fresh, tasty tomato, deli pickle, lettuce and red onion...like it was ready for a menu cover. I chose the ice-cold Boulevard 16-ounce beer and plowed right in. The burger was done perfectly and so were the fries. This brought back memories from when I was on the road in the 1960s (Lineville, Iowa, even). Farmers would come into town when the noon whistle went off to have THIS big, fresh burger at a local eatery. The Hy-Vee Ward Road Market Grille is top-notch--decor, cleanliness, service and good food. How could you give them any less than 5-stars? read more

As I browsed the fresh meat section I saw some amazing meats. I purchased some jumbo shrimp from the fresh seafood counter because they looked like jumbo shrimp. To my surprise when I got ready to cook them only three of the shrimp were jumbo sized. The rest were medium sized shrimp. Very disappointed. read more

I despise this place. The management needs to teach the young kids how deal with people. It is called customer service. They also need cashiers how to handle a customers product, and not to toss it to be bagged. Management,teach them how to bag groceries. Guess what not everyone wants plastic, and if a customer wants paper, the baggers are so lost. Just teach them. A big no. For as much as they taunt customer service, at check out there is none. " Did you find everything ok" should never be uttered from their lips. Having been pleased with the food from other market grills, I thought I would give the newly opened Market Grill in my hometown a whirl. I'll be generous and chalk it up to being newly opened, but I was far from impressed. Part of the problem may have been my untrained and mostly absent server. I ordered the pulled pork nachos for eight dollars and added guacamole for another dollar. (about 2 tablespoons) It took a very long time to get my nachos even though I was basically one of two people in the restaurant at that point. The pork was OK but on the dry side. Their homemade cheese dip needs work. The place started to fill up as I was eating. I heard another server offer his guests an opportunity to try a complementary ?? (Something) Don't go looking for any kind of a price break from other restaurants as there really isn't one. I'll probably wait a while before I visit this market grill again in hopes of them getting service and food up to par. read more

You get what you pay for. $5-OFF steak night, sure why not. Top sirloin with baked for $10. Absolutely the worst steak I've had in 15-years. No flavor, weird cut, chewy to the point I gave up. Could barely cut it, and I'm not exaggerating. Plus everything you want is a dollar extra. Not a pleasant dining experience. The big-screen TV above the bar has a nice picture, but if I wanted to watch TV I'd have stayed home. The service was OK, ambience not so hot, food terrible. I'm not sure what is going on, but I've bought meat a few times here and gone straight home to cook it just to discover it's bad! I bought some parmesan cheese a little over a week ago. The management in market grille is horrible....the manager, I believe his name was Jeff, treats his employees very poorly and doesn't seem like he's much help. I had also seen the bartender bust his ass to help accommodate everyone and saw that he really tried to make sure everything was done properly,but apparently to Jeff that isn't good enough from what it looked like. All the responsibilities are not just for the bartender Work on treating your employees better and then work on being a better team or eventually you will no longer have a staff who appreciates working for you. Review also on google. I used to really like this location but after today, IF I go back, I will not ever get food from the deli or where hot foods are served. I ran in over my lunch and was greeted by an employee asking if I'd like a taco bowl for taco Tuesday. It looked ok and I was very hungry, so sure!! She gets the bowl together and is wearing gloves as she's adding lettuce cheese etc, but then as she moved the bowl over to where she puts it into the container she -still same gloves on- picked up her cell phone and then after that kind of wiped or itches her nose like one does with the back of her hand. Then handled my taco shell to try and get it in the container. Uhm- those gloves aren't protecting anyone when used with a total disregard of sanitary food handling. Think it's not a big deal??: your cell phone has up to 25,000 germs/square inch, and according to muliple studies, a cell phone has up to 10 times more bacteria than most toilet seats. So...Mental note - I'm not eating the taco bowl. But to be pleasant, I take it and decide I'll just get a slice of pizza. Took a couple mins to be waited on, which is unusual here - woman gets my two slices of pizza and goes to put them into the container which is not really shaped how the slices have been cut (odd new squareish pizzas) so she puts the slices on top of one another in one container and then with BARE hands is moving the pizza around to try to get the container to close. Yes, she's actually touching and jimmying around with my food. I'd had enough, and I told her to keep it. I realize I am sensitive to food handling - and god help me what I'm sure I've eaten in restaurants - but this just isn't ok with me. Again- I may go back for quick grocery items, but never getting anything where an employee handles my food. I would suggest to management that it provide its employees a mandatory refresher on safe and sanitary food handling sometime soon. read more
