I like shopping at Hy-Vee. The stores that I have been in are well stocked and clean. The employees that I have encountered are always helpful and friendly. This location has a post office and St. Luke's clinic. The produce are fresh and plentiful. 5 stars today because I found tiny Manzano bananas here. I bought a small bunch not knowing what variety they were. Bonus!!! Found out that Manzano also called Apple bananas! Apple bananas are my favorite and I can never find this variety in the continental US. Although they are tinier than what I find back home, I am so excited to finally find this variety here! read more

The only complaint I have is people parking right out in front of the entrance when it clearly says "No Parking Fire Lane". These people create so much traffic and are really in the way. This Hy-Vee has been around forever, and it's really just the most par for the course, large, midwestern grocery store. I came here for the pharmacy and it was a good experience. The pharmacy offered Covid boosters where you could pick which one you get (fancy!). They were really timely with everything despite a busy Sunday afternoon crowd, and as always the shot was quick and painfree. The rest of the store was popping as expected on a Sunday afternoon. Not in my neighborhood, so it's not my go-to or anything, but it's a perfectly fine and serviceable grocery store if you're in Mission! read more

I don't know if it's customary to rate a pharmacy located in a grocery store, but I will say this... After being transferred to a new pharmacy in KC due to my provider no longer being licensed in Kansas, I now realize how above and beyond the staff here consistently go for their patrons. They are kind, patient, and regularly look to provide you with the lowest rate in what ways they can. I have never felt judged for my inquiries, or the medications I require. This is vastly different from what I am now encountering at another location (which name I will refrain from listing but let's just say they go by different initials), and WOW, can some staff be shit, frankly. So thank you Hy-Vee, or whoever employs the staff at your pharmacy, bc they are gold. read more

Sorry excuse of a store! I have never seen such a mess as the checkout process. The store continues to raise their prices while pushing all the work off on their customers. There are lines in self checkout (mostly due to people not knowing what they are doing) and the store staff checkouts are almost never staffed. While lines were super long over the weekend, they attempted to open up a store staffed checkout line ... only to leave an innocent kid there who didn't know how to long in or what he was doing. I took my hand-carried basket up to Customer Service .... dropped it on the floor and told them I would do my shopping at Price Chopper where I could at least get waited on. Out of the all the 24+ comments on my FB posting, only a couple of people seemed to have sympathy for HyVee. Even a former 20+ year employee had nothing nice to say about HyVee and all the ch ch ch ch changes going on with this chain. I spent several years working in a grocery store through high school and college and never seen such a mess with the checkout process. Good riddance HyVee! read more

Prices are usually fair. Usually have good specials. Their Chinese and pizza is great! The staff that work in both departments don't like to be bothered or asked questions and act like we are an inconvenience to them. Every other department is great! Their Chinese and Pizza are amazing! I would pick their pizza over Pizza Hut any day! Their Chinese is good if you want Chinese but don't want huge portions. Their sushi is really good if you like sushi! Some of the cashiers need to be taught how to engage with the customers at the register instead of each other and playing on their phones or talking about their phones while scanning out items. Oh! And the bakery! Normally has a good selection! But! Beware of the people/puppy chow in the bakery! They use to make it there and it was really good like home made kind of stuff. Then they transitioned to the pre made kind that already comes in the bags in the shelf and they want 5.99 for the container when the bag is like 2.00 cheaper. I bought one to try the difference and they were the exact same. We called and complained and the store manager agreed they shouldn't be using the bag stuff and credited us back what we spent on it. The next trip they didn't have any..... but the next trip after that containers of the premise stuff every where! We know other stores do this but we are more disappointed! read more

This location has gotten particularly bad recently. The enduring problem here has been that they have long refused to open the self-checkout lanes with conveyor belts for customers with more items, instead funneling customers into the smaller self-checkouts and the staffed checkout, where usually only one lane is open. Additionally, there's one employee in particular (older woman) who is very rude and often staffs the self checkout. I've had her almost yell at me for buying gift cards at the self checkout (I told her a different employee said this was fine, she said "I don't know that"), I've watched her rush people through the self checkout and help herself to bagging people's groceries without asking to hurry them up, and I've seen her yell at other staff in front of customers. Not sure if she is a manager and I would have reported her if she had a name tag, but it's just another reason not to go here. There's a Target nearby, and a Price Chopper and Walmart in Roeland Park. If you're dead set on HyVee, the one in Lenexa on 87th is much better stocked, better staffed, and cleaner as well. read more

I popped into this grocery store after dropping my cat off at the vet this morning. The layout feels backwards to me with produce on the left when you walk in. That said, this is one of the best produce set ups I have seen in a Hy-Vee! It's clean, bright and well organized. They had great prices and the staff was very friendly. I have had a terrible time transferring a prescription to this pharmacy. 80% of the problem was my doctor's office not getting my prescription to the pharmacy correctly. However, when I went in to pickup my prescription and noticed it wrong and questioned the clerk at check out she said, "So do you want to take it or not." I told her I guess so and I'll call my doctor again. The call to the doctor's office was swift in correcting the problem and contacting the pharmacy immediately. I took the receipt and the pills back to the pharmacy and was told by the on duty pharmacist that next time don't pick up the prescription if something is wrong. She said: "It causes a lot of work for us to correct it when you do!" I said it sounds like you are blaming me for this problem that could have been corrected at the check out by telling me then that I should call the doctor back before accepting the medicine. Apparently this Hy-Vee Pharmacist needs some customer service training. Rule #1. The customer is always right. Rule # Refer back to rule one. My advice to this lady is don't blame the customer for something that could have been mediated at the pickup check out counter. It will cause you to lose business! So now I go back to the Hy-Vee Pharmacy for the fourth time to get the corrected prescription picked up. I was able to pick up the balance of my prescription without any further reprimands. Now comes the next nightmare-transferring this prescription to Wal-Mart! read more

This Hy-vee location used to be 5 star...no longer. Since they have removed the large number of checkouts and replaced them with self checkouts the service is poor. There should be a checker open at all times. I don't mind using the self checkout when I have a small number of items, but, when I have a full cart it is very inconvenient. That happened to me tonight. The checkout closed as I approached, and the employee would not reopen. I decided not to make my purchases and left. And left a full car of groceries to be returned. I need to start out by saying that I have a Price Chopper within walking distance of my house, yet I would prefer driving the 5 minutes or so to shop at this HyVee. Perhaps it's the clean and bright atmosphere, the great layout, huge selection or perhaps it's simply the tiny chunk of space dedicated to organic and vegetarian groceries. Either way, this store offers all of the above which generates an A+ in my book. When you first walk in, you are bombarded with beautiful bouquets of flowers and the aroma of Caribou Coffee. You are ready to grab a cart, order a coffee and browse the aisles equal to that of a lazy Sunday afternoon. You can even start your grocery shopping endeavors off with a hot slice of pizza, salad, Chinese or good ol' home cookin' as HyVee features an array of these items at the front of the store. **The organic and vegetarian section is a small package with a lot of punch. Do not be fooled by what it has to offer. I can easily spend 30 minutes to an hour in these four aisles as I compile a week's worth of dinner options in my mind (and in my cart). I would recommend their bulk items, where you can fill a container of your own with inexpensive dried fruit, granola, quinoa and other grains.** It must be mentioned, however, that I have yet to see the push to "Shop Local" in their produce section. Maybe I shop during the off-hours, but I would recommend making the short trip to Merriam's Farmer's Market if you should have the time. This HyVee is worth checking out! read more

When I google the words 'Hyvee Salad Bar', amongst many other results, i get 'Build Your Own Salad Bar - Hy-Vee'. that is an EASY fix for a website manager on the search engine settings. It seems intentional by omission. When I pointed out that information on the salad bar had not been changed on corporate URLs, every single employed nodded up and down but would not say anything. All your employees know about this. Also, the drink fountain in the table area had mountain dew out and no strawberry flavor. A couple of employees off shift came up to use the fountain and the one they tried was out also. I asked if this happened frequently and they said it did. The customer service counter was great. They refunded my drink and were m ost apologetic. Alex at one of the food counters was great and did what he could. He opened up a closed register to ring me up asap. I am diabetic and needed to eat something right then. I asked Thea, the lady serving steak that the drink fountain was o ut and she said n othing all 3 times I asked her. She is a good person, but she does not know some basic customer service skills, such as, "Sir, I know that can be really aggravating. I will report it to the Customer Service" counter as soon as can. Also, you should read some of the sites like Yelp.com . Businesses say they always want feedback. It is there in spades. People share a whole bunch of areas needing improvement in your stores. Hy-vee is my go to for fresh fruits and vegetables. They are higher price point than places like price chopper or Aldi but they don't spoil as fast and they are much higher quality. I like to visit their meat department and I have similar experience, the quality of their meets is great and worth the higher price point. My last favorite stop for Hy-bee is their deli: fresh cut deli meat and gourmet cheeses with knowledgeable staff. read more

I love HyVee and this one has the most friendly staff members! I am constantly getting asked "How is your day?" whether I am in the produce area, the parking lot, or check out line. Always fresh fruits/vegetables/meats. I love the meat section that has prepared meals, makes meal planning easy. There is an in store dietician and you can find her recommendations all throughout the store. The healthy department as a wide selection of gluten free items too. There is a walk in clinic near the back which is a great addition. oh and don't forget the marketplace. HyVee is not just a grocery store, but a place to service all your needs. read more

Honestly, I don't shop here a lot, but for me this is a nice option to have for a backup supermarket. I'll be quick and succinct: * The meat section is exemplary and not only features your normal cuts, but also a nice selection of filets, fish and even potato and some vegetable options. If you can grill it or fry it they do their best to make sure they have it. It's not a butcher shop, but it's almost the best thing. * A diverse and filling of a produce section that you'll find in the midwest. They even have a good organic section if you're into that. * Lots of ready made food options so if you don't want to cook, but you want to be a little healthier than most restaurants, this is your space. They serve breakfast, Asian, pizza, Mexican, deli food and if that's not enough they also have sushi, chicken wings, crab rolls, sandwiches and other options prepacked and ready to go. So, like I said, I'm not in the area that often and don't shop here a lot, but it's a good option, one with a huge parking lot, to have. read more

I'm reviewing this Hy-Vee because they are the only one in Mission. Actually, I think they are the only grocery store in Mission. I really like Hy-Vee. They seem to be cheaper than Price Chopper (ironic, as far as names go) and the employees are friendlier. Even though this Hy-Vee is currently undergoing heavy remodeling (the front entrance is completely torn off), they have still managed to keep everything relatively un-frustrating and clean. They have a great salad bar that I always get fruit from, since I don't eat it quick enough to get a whole bunch of grapes and I'm too lazy to actually cut up oranges, watermelons, and apples myself. They also have all-you-can-eat specials on weeknights, which include the salad bar and Chinese counter. They have a large cafeteria-style seating area for this, which usually always has some people in it. The bakery has really good sugar cookies and always have a good selection available of breads and other baked goods. The pizza that you can get by the slice (I think it's on Tuesdays or Wednesdays where you get a free drink with a slice- it's like $3!) is big and pretty good- it's no Waldo Pizza, mind you, but it's definitely better than Sbarro. They have a great nature food/beauty/product section as well, where they offer organic food and products, along with makeup, shampoo, etc. I was really impressed. They also have bins so you can buy nuts, granola, etc. but the pound. It's pretty affordable- the salted soynuts are really good. I like Hy-Vee because the employees are always willing to help, the store layout isn't confusing, and they always have what I'm looking for. read more

Glad they're open 24/7 since I work nights and refuse to shop at Walmart. Sad to see the entire freezer aisle lined with boxes and only one employee working that aisle. This is a food safety issue that day managers need to address. Again, glad you're open 24/7 but if the day shift managers can't hire enough night shift people to stock frozen foods at 2am, have day shift stock it. Then to really turn us away from Hy-Vee is that the new manager and district manager just canceled all Girl Scout Cookie booths that we had to bid on late last year and out girls had been planning. In some ways, I prefer this Hy-Vee to the one at 95th and Antioch because it's a bit easier to navigate, but despite a bit of a remodel within the past few years, this Hy-Vee is starting to seem a bit ragged around the edges. I do like that they have expanded their organic section and they've managed to lower the prices on organics a bit, which I appreciate. I often grab organic stuff here while I'm getting other groceries, and I appreciate that the prices are no longer so outrageous that I have to weigh whether to get it at Hy-Vee or make another grocery store stop at Natural Grocers. They also have a reasonably-sized bulk foods area. The teenagers who work here all seem like sweet kids. It seems like every time I'm here, the average age of the employees is about 17. read more

This particular Hy-Vee has become one of my favorite grocery stores in the area. It's not exactly in a convenient location, but it's close enough and I'm willing to go a little bit out of the way. The prices are pretty reasonable. It has some of the freshest and best produce in the area. Plus, it carries a fair amount of specialty items that for some reason can be difficult to find in other stores for some reason. I'm not saying your can't find Scimeca 's Italian Turkey Sausage in other stores throughout the metro. I just maybe haven't found it as easily. I think the thing that got me most is what I bought there today -- graham flour. I seriously have actively looked for graham flour in a variety of grocery stores in Kansas City and no luck. Today, I did my usual practice of perusing the organic section of the Hy-Vee (this section is pretty decent by the way) and all the sudden ... BOOM! FRIGGIN' GRAHAM FLOUR! So, I bought a bag. And may go back again to buy more soon. This is a large store. Well lit and a decent set up to it. The people working there are friendly and helpful. So I guess the whole jingle of there being a helpful smile in every aisle rings true. read more

So I go to this store mainly for work stuff - I have a little hyvee card and I will buy stuff for the office breakroom. Today I had to go and get some arm and hammer baking soda thingys for the fridges and freezers and some fantastic to clean up the nasty goo that my lovely co-workers seem to leave on surfaces like slugs... but I digress. It is Lent so no meat on Fridays and since today is Friday that means no meat. So, while I was meandering through the aisles checking out schmutz cleaning products, I decided to get some lunch. They have lots of meat options but...Friday yeah yeah you know. So, I quickly zeroed in on their pizza. Delicious pizza by the slice. Now, I have bought their pizza before for work functions and I have bought their pizza before for personal functions *wink wink* but never just for lunch. But today I did. I DID! This is probably the worst Hy-Vee, but it is still decent. I go because it is convenient to downtown. I don't think I have ever been there when I was able to find everything on my list. they are always out of something and I think they hired a crazy person to arrange the store. They did a remodel recently and still the freezer aisles are in the middle, that is just stupid. I have to skip the freezer aisles and go back at the end so my stuff doesn't melt. They stuck all the stuff that you don't eat in the back of the store and the organic section looks like an afterthought. That all said, I have never found a store that carries a better selection of ice cream and candy then Hy Vee. They even have their own ice cream line. read more

Worst Hyvee I have ever been in. I have been here a lot. When we lived in this neighborhood this was our go to store. It has gone down hill the last few years. Now I occasionally go in and every time it is worse. Was in this morning to get 4 lemons and some apple cider to make apple butter. After sorting through a couple dozen nasty lemons I found what I thought were 4 good ones. Grabbed the cider and went to the register. On my way I saw the new Royals tees and they were out of the one I wanted but were taking names and #s to call when they came in this afternoon. Gave the girl my name and # and went to get I line. Woman in front of me just had a few items and when she was rung up she couldn't find her credit card and didn't have cash. She asked the teenager cashier if she could put her items at the counter and come back. The teenager just glared at her like she was worthless and said I don't think so. I corrected her and said yes she can it is called a suspended transactions. I have done it. The teenager said I don't think so! I need to get a manager. The woman was already embraced so I said forget it and paid for her groceries. The teenager said I don't think you can do that. I once again corrected her and said I can pay for anyone I want to not take the money and let the woman leave. The woman thanked me and looked at the teenager and said get some manners. I told the woman no worries, just pay it forwarded. Now 9 hours later I get a call my shirt is in and at the customer service desk. I walk on and no shirt. The cashier asks what kind did I want. She pointed behind me and said those? Just grab one. Already pissed off at how this store treats people I grab one and pay for it and leave. Never to return. read more

Exceptional bad experience at HyVee today. Patiently waited to check out allowing social distancing. The cashier did not clean between customers. I put my card down as I did not want skin to skin contact. She advanced to belt and she sent my card down to belt, losing the card and all my points. She said it was my fault for putting the card down...not hers for not paying attention to her job. She continued to be rude. I went to customer service where a young attendant listened but started turning it on me when she saw which cashier made the error. She started being rude to me. So much for rewarding customers. She told me I could speak to the manager but she was going to tell her I had a problem with both of them, implying no one would believe me. Sounds like bullying and lying is how they operate. I will take my business elsewhere where I will be safer. read more

Not the place for produce but they have a good health food section. The recent remodel has made the overall shopping experience better, but it doesn't make up for bad produce. Every time I go there to pick up my Chicago Style Hot Giardiniera (only place in KC that carries it?) I hope to pick up some other essentials, like peppers or apples, and I'm always disappointed. The produce is rotting and covered in dirt. I'm a frequent Chopper shopper, and maybe I'm spoiled, but their produce never looks that bad. One thing I do like, is their health food section. They got vegetarian/vegan frozen food, organic products, and health food all tucked away in one convenient location. Service is what you come to expect from most grocery stores. I have a love/hate relationship with this store. I almost gave it 3 stars, simply because it's close to our house, and therefore it's the grocery store we go to the most often, but I don't even think that the distance factor can make me bump up the rating. The things that really irritate me about this store are: it's almost always out of something, if not multiple things that I'm looking for. And I'm not talking weird, obscure ingredients; I'm referring to things like zucchini, Italian parsley, or sea scallops. COME ON - why is it so hard for a grocery store to stock basic foods? Two - the staff, especially one guy in the fish area, can be somewhat surly. Last night, we stopped in just before 7:30pm, and they were already packing up the fish (why, I don't know); and the guy there, who always seems put out anyway, was not best pleased that we wanted to purchase some fish. Sorry to make you do your job, sir. Lastly, except in the health food area of all places (which is actually quite good!), the selection is pretty crap compared to other area Hy-Vees. Which circles back to point number one, and the fact that, even though this Hy-Vee is close by, half the time we shop here, we end up needing to make trips to other shops as well. Sigh. Maybe it's time for me to re-think my loyalty to Hy-Vee, and begin shopping elsewhere. read more
