I don't normally grocery shop here, so this review is based on their lunchtime options. My aversion to buffets and anything having to do with serving yourself is widely known. I don't want to serve myself. I don't want food that 30 other people have been leaning over while sweating, sneezing, or dripping in any way whatsoever. It's gross. But in a pinch, the salad bar here is pretty decent. They have a good sneeze shield over the food. So good that I have to bend down and contort myself just to reach under it and spoon up any food. If I have to go through so much effort to get to the food, I feel pretty good about Slimey Bob's snot having a tough time getting in there, too. The pickings are pretty standard - spinach, greens, eggs, cheese, mushrooms, veggies, croutons, etc. And they have all the typical salad dressings. But they also usually have a pretty good fruit selection and mixed salads if you're into that kind of thing. It's pretty cheap, too. I think for around $2 I can get a large salad with dressing & crackers. Not bad at all for lunch. read more

This grocery store rocks for people who need a good gluten free selection! They have a HUGE health market area with hundreds of gluten free products. I can also find dairy free and vegan products here. Not only that there is a dietician on staff! She will go shopping with you for free! She also offers inexpensive consultations. I also think it's got one of the largest selections of frozen foods in the area. Since their remodel in 2010, the freezer sections go on forever. They have all the varieties I am looking for--compared to smaller stores this is the place to go to stock up! I also think the frozen section in the health market area is nicely stocked. One more comment about the pizza area-when I asked if they could make me one with soy cheese they said "no problem", all they had to do was go over to the health market section and get it off the shelf and voila! I had a soy cheese pizza ten minutes later. That was great! read more

I have waited on multiple occasions over 40 minutes for the grocery pickup, would have been quicker to just go in and get it myself.

I try and avoid this store if at all possible. Prices are usually better elsewhere but the worst part is the checkout experience. Store is always very crowded and lines are very slow. Not to mention there are no self-checkout lanes. This makes shopping even for just a few items painful read more

This was my first time at the new Hyvee Market Grille and I am VERY impressed!!! We started with bacon jalapeño wontons and they are delicious!! Then I split a bacon cheeseburger and that was the best thick burger and bacon I have had in a long time!! And also they were hand cut fries! Not greasy or soggy at all! I'm not a Hy-vee fan because of a bad experience at another location. I went to this location for my first time recently on a whim. I wanted fruit for breakfast and I decided to run in and get some there. I think the precut fruit was left from the night before. It looked a little wilted and was all sticky. I finally picked through the selection to find the least-molested packages of fruit. I was so pleased! It really tasted 100 times better than it looked. I will be back. read more

This is an older Hy-Vee and still has that "old Mission, KS" feel to it. I have no complaints and enjoy shopping at this location when I am in the area. I have never had an issue with employees being rude and have never noticed the store being unreasonably dirty. They have a newer Market Grille (which I have not tried) and a Caribou Coffee inside. read more

Wow, for conventional grocery stores (meaning, not a specialty health market) this one TAKES THE CAKE!!! I live right in the middle of 3 grocery stores, all within a mile. One is Price Chopper (NO ORGANIC PRODUCE, NO HEALTH MARKET SECTION) and the other is a Hen House (a very small selection of organic/healthy alternatives but only if you look closely) besides it is RIDICULOUSLY expensive! My HyVee on the other hand...so affordable and an INCREDIBLE selection of organic produce as well as an amazing HEALTH MARKET section! It is in a corner of the store, over by the pharmacy, but man does it pack a punch! There are a ton of options! For gluten free diets, vegan diets, vegetarian diets, diabetic diets, etc. NO HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP!!! NO PARTIALLY HYDROGENATED OILS!!!! Absolutely amazing! They even have the frozen goods as well as refrigerated (dairy/non-dairy) over in that section! If only the section was closer to their produce I would only have to go to that one section of the store! Everything is well labeled and organized, especially for gluten free options! Also in the store is the pharmacy, as well as a cafe with chinese, sushi, pizza, etc. Commerce Bank is in there as well! It is literally a one stop shop! It is by far the best grocery store around!!! Oh, and there is an isle with artisan/luxury cheeses as well (affordable)...it is separate from the fake cheese isle with all the other cheap dairy crap, so look for it, it is over by the produce section! This is one of 3 grocery stores in my area that I frequent. I typically only come to this store for the bulk-bin items in the health market section but the husband was after the gas discount so here we are. The store is clean, well stocked and easy to navigate. The prices are good. On that rare occasion wen I can't find what I need the staff is always very helpful. However, there's a "but" coming... The produce department is pretty sad in general. There's lots of variety there but you really have to look hard to find fresh products. Take the jalapeños on Sunday, we had to dig through 2 bins of them to locate 1 that was in acceptable shape. And that's the way it always is. Icing on the cake? The teenage boy that bagged my groceries put everything into 1 very large reusable bag. We had lots of bags with us, there was no reason to do that. It made the bag quite heavy and I got home to find all of my produce in the bottom. Gee, thanks for making my guacamole for me right there in the avocado... I've never felt so loyal to a grocery store. I always come to this one. I've always kind of liked HyVee stores, and this one is no exception. The employees have always been helfpul, friendly, and conversational. That's the winning point for me. They hire good people. The location is good for me, as a Missionite. I received the most beautiful bouquet of flowers from my friends when I had a sudden death in the family and was shocked to learn they came from the Hy-Vee. I immediately sent a text thank you to my friends and told them it was the most stunning arrangement I have ever received. I was away when they arrived so the driver left a notice on my door and refused to leave the bouquet on the porch but instead returned immediately and handed them to me in person. I will never again roll my eyes when I learn of someone using the Hy-Vee florist, in fact I will probably use them myself in the future. I eat lunch here pretty often. I love the salad bar. The prices are decent. My only problem is with the grumpiness of the HyVee staff. There is a small group of employees that smile and are very helpful but the majority of the employees look like they want to go up on the roof and jump off. Most of the kitchen staff is nice but the grocery area staff seems to be where the depression is, except the young lady behind the customer service counter; she's awesome. So please HyVee of Mission do what your commercials say; Put a helpful smile in every isle and not the faces of people that want to play in traffic. read more

Horrible produce. Horrible. I have seen wilted lettuce, terrible excuses for tomatoes and heard one report of rotten asparagus. Rot. ten. I do like their meat counter - they are always helpful and friendly and have good specials. But I will go to Price Chopper on Roe and brave those ridiculous lines and rude crowds of people because the product is much better. The HyVee does have them beat if you are cooking Italian food, however. Their cured and fresh meat and cheeses are much more expansive. read more

This Hy-Vee has become the grocery store I frequent most often, now that I live in Merriam. It is well-organized, not too huge, and has relatively reasonable prices. There is a Hen House closer to me, but it is much more expensive, so I do not go there anymore. This Hy-Vee is not as nice, spacious, or well-organized as the Hy-Vee on 95th street, but it does the trick. I will continue to shop here because it is convenient for me and has reasonable enough prices. It does get crowded during peak times, but it has never been unreasonably crowded for me. read more

I'm a former Mission Hy-Vee user. When we first started going to Hy-Vee, we were very happy. Good selection, good prices, and good meat and produce sections. However, since first going there, it has been kind of downhill. First, the produce section seemed to start going to crap. It started last winter when the quality of fruit and veggies just started to suck. Shriveled, bruised, moldy... We chalked it up it being winter at first but it stayed bad through the rest of the year and has only gotten worse. The last trip we made there, we went to get some cherry tomatoes that were on sale and we picked up 4 packages that were all nasty. The last one looked like a Chia pet, it was so moldy. In theory a sale item should sell quickly and not even have a chance to get gross. The straw that broke the camel's back though was the meat department going downhill too. The last time we went, there was ground turkey on sale and it was ALL gray. That is not the color it should be! It was not impressive. We've now switched stores because we just can't bring ourselves to settle for sub par meat and produce. That said, the cashiers and baggers were the most attentive and personable of any store I've been in a long time. They were friendly and polite and just good people. Prices are still decent and all that, just the outer sections of the store (where you really should shop) are slipping a lot. read more

Friendly staff always helps me find what I need. The fuel saver program has saved me a ton. All I do is buy the items I would normally and save on average $1.50 on my gas every week. The fuel station right in the parking lot makes it ever more convenient. read more

I LOVE this Hy-Vee. Before I moved to Mission, I would drive several miles to shop here. Now I live a few blocks away and couldn't be happier! Everyone there is SO friendly and helpful. The people at the deli counter always give my daughter a slice of cheese to eat while we shop. I love the health food/organic section and the Shatto Milk. The pizza/chinese/breakfast/salad bar items are all very good and priced well. This Hy-Vee is quite a bit cheaper than Hen House and Price Chopper. It is always clean and easy to navigate. I really didn't do much shopper per se in here. A couple weeks before, I ordered some trays online for the cocktail hour of our wedding - veggie tray, fruit tray, and a meat and cheese tray. Online said it would be ready 8-11am on our wedding day, so I rolled in about 9:45am and sure enough, everyone was good to go. $140 with tax seemed quite fair when I saw the size and quality of the products, and how nicely it was put together. The people I interacted with at the store were very friendly and got me out in no time flat. Definitely a nice experience! read more

It was my first time ordering flowers from Hy-Vee, I could of gone with anyone else but since they were down the street from my mom's work place I said hey why not give them a shot. When my mom received the flower the chocolate did not come with it. So I gave them a call to let them know. The manager Barbra offered to send the box of chocolate, I said no because it's not special anymore. She told me she would give me a call to discuss what happened during the weekend. She never called me. I had to find time to call her during work hours the following Monday, she was gone for the day. It just made me feel like I was not important enough but I just dropped 70 dollars on their department. I then called her back today Tuesday and she act like she didn't know who I was. We go to this store every week. I love their organic section. Its huge! They have items you can't find elsewhere. You can normally get in and out pretty fast. I love Hy-Vee, but I am so disappointed in my recent (and only) floral delivery. The website only specifies AM/PM. I bought an arrangement online for a funeral service at 10:00 AM ($10 delivery fee). When I arrived at the service there were no flowers from me...and no phone call that there might have been an issue with the delivery, though I gave phone numbers for both the church where the service was held, and my cell. After the service was over I called the church to see if they had arrived, and yes they had, after the service had started. I called the store and was told they attempted to deliver at 9 AM but could not enter the church. The church was open, but has very hard doors, why did the person not call and ask? I asked the person if they called and they did not call the church nor myself, just went on to other deliveries. I was also informed that AM could be anywhere before noon, and you should enter special instructions if needed, but this was not indicated anywhere. Most funeral services in the AM are pretty early. There was no apology or anything, just oh well, pretty much there goes your money. The flower arrangement ended up being very pretty, but the lack of service was not very good. Nor sure if I will ever use this floral service again or not. read more

RE PHARMACY: I got there at 2:30 on Xmas Eve Day while out shopping, to pick up necessary Rx refills, and the pharmacy was already closed down! Not even a phone alert to customers with refills waiting, or even on-line telling customers of their holiday plans when they called in refills two days earlier! Just stuck a sign in the door saying bye-bye 'til the 26th; even sign on drive-up window still has normal and expected business hours. No way for customers to know their pharmacists were abandoning their care for extra holiday indulgence. Grocery part of store still operating though; you can still get candy and beer! Absolutely outrageous and unprofessional. Now no other way for me, other customers to get needed meds until Saturday as no backup pharmacy available, and grocery staff not allowed to even get bagged refill meds off shelf, give to customers and take payment. Will have licensing board investigate for abandonment of care issues, maybe also my lawyer, and look for another pharmacy, hopefully run by adults for a change. Hope I survive the 2 days without meds. Pathetic, just pathetic, example of managed care and the us-first big business ethic underpinning it. read more

Not a bad store, in general, but their milk use by dates are terrible

Their online shopping is the absolute worst. I tried it once and nearly half of my order was jacked up... I called they apologized so I tried to give them another shot.. second time around, half of my items were wrong once again and prices never matched for incorrect substitutions, I called - they apologized.. so I reluctantly give them a third shot.. order isn't ready on time, have to wait 30 minutes. Order again is incomplete and substitutes were not even close to what I wanted.. you want deodorant? Okay here is a bar of soap instead.. type of stuff. It's like giving a 4 year old your credit card and a list of items and they just pick out whatever they want and you say the budget is $100 and they spend $140 and get half the items you wanted then random junk in the isles. They need to train the online shoppers on what items are.. you want a can of evaporated milk, that's not the same as powdered milk.. you want the on sale corn on the cob for 11 cents an ear? That's not the same as canned corn.. you want powdered sugar? That isn't white granulated sugar.. a clamshell of strawberries substituted for pound of strawberries at more than double the price and quantity? No thanks. read more

After asking the pharmacy tech for help 3 times, just to write down the name and phone number of the pharmacy manager. The 1st answer I received was "she works this weekend." I said thank you but that is not what I asked. Will you please write down the name and number please? She then said " it's on the bottle" Again I said thank you now will you write it down for me please? "It's on the bottle" I asked if I was disabled would you help me? At which point she made a huff sound and said" I help people who NEED help. The next thought through my head was "I don't matter, then I felt humiliated and sad. Then anger so I pulled out of the drive thru, parked and walked inside. While speaking with the pharmacist she came up and I told her I didn't want to hear or see from her now so she choose to try to start speaking to me at which point my humiliation, shaking and tears flooded out and I walked away. If anyone is really interested I think they have cameras in the pharmacy. Do I NEED to tattoo disabled on my forehead? Is it really her decision whether I need help? Not all disabilities are visible to others. While clearly title VIII violations where numerous I can't afford the time and energy to contact a lawyer, the state of Kansas, or even the store manager. Jami was very kind and tried to listen and was trying hard to be helpful but we were interrupted. Just typing this I can feel the humiliation all over again. Since this is probably my last Christmas this also will the last negative energy I spend on this young woman. I am choosing to be happy, although it's taking a little to get back there. read more

This store has everything I'm looking for at a price that beats all other KC stores (except Aldi's). Always clean, friendly and helpful employees, and good selection. AND the nicest salad bar! Great outdoor plants in the summer. I don't shop in the middle of the nite, but nice to know they're open 24 hrs. if I needed to. It gets 5 stars because there are no minuses here, just all pluses. read more

I go to Hy-Vee every week. There really is a "helpful smile in every aisle". Sometimes I'll be shopping and think, "oh there he is. he's going to smile and ask me how i'm doing today", then it happens. I was forced to smile back and be nice. Dammit. All kidding aside, the employees are very nice. The bakery department is deliciously sinful. Meat is OK at best. I have known two people who got sick after eating their potato salad. Then it happened to me. Food poisoning. I strongly suggest that you avoid their potato salad unless you like vomiting all day. It would be cool if they had a self-checkout like Walmart so you didn't have to hunt down an employee late at night. But it's still my preferred supermarket. read more
