I have been trying to figure out which grocery store had those fruit shaped cakes. I walked into World Fresh Market. The front of the produce reminded me of City Market. Beyond the produce, not a regular store. This grocery store has the prettiest cakes I've ever seen. There's flan larger than a regular cake. There's bags of iced cookies. Breads of all types. Oh, they also have tacos plus a Mexican restaurant attached. The bakery winds around to the middle of the store. Those fruit shaped cakes? Right there. So cute and looking yummy. I can't say enough about the bakery. I bought little fruit shaped watermelon fruit cakes. I also bought pistachio filled croissants. This is absolutely my favorite store. I'll be back cause I'm in this area often. But seriously, stop by the bakery and get a mousse cake if you want to be the favorite at a potluck.

I also wanted garlic sauce and he refused to put it into MY food only on the side like some kind of lame afterthought for the flavor impaired. My buddy got the shawarma wrap, which looked more like a taquito. They put french fries in the shawarma wrap, along with a little bit of shawarma- and not much else. The advertise price was $9.99 but when we got to the register the price became $11.99. when we brought it to their attention that his shawarma wrap was not actually what they charged us - which they called a "viral ribeye shawarma" they try to tell us the extra $2 was for the nine french fries they added to the package. I GET that were in Kansas, and there's not too many folks that even know what a falafel or shawarma is- but these guys who spoke the language of these regions so they certainly do, or I guess I should say- they used to know what it was. I am quite disappointed by what they've become, I hope they understand this- but I probably won't find myself willing to give it another shot for a while.

There is a reason things are marked down so cheap; preparing a dinner for that evening - go for it. Stocking up for the week - think twice. My favorite bargains are when avocados are 4 / $1 or flats of bananas are $3. A great way to overindulge on some tasty guacamole (get the seasoning next door) or a cheap healthy treat for the office staff. If I lived in the neighborhood, I'd visit daily and knock down my grocery bill by 75%.

Now, nessled on about 4 acres, they grow a variety of vegetables and flowers with no irrigation, using sustainable methods (live mulch (i.e., weeds) to shade the crops and renew the soil). They also use built environmental methods to extend the growing season of certain non-native plants, and have even applied for and received grants from the USDA (the North Central Region Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education program) to experiment growing ginger in the midwest (local ginger!!!) and to experiment growing bitter melon indoors. The Huns already have an incredible assortment of herbs and vegetables. On last count at the KC Farmer's Market, I saw 3 varieties of basil, 2 types of parsley, bitter melon, of which the leaves and stems you can make green tea (don't give the tea to children or people prone to low blood sugar blackouts), perslin (misspelled), and onions. At other times, there were flowers, heirloom tomatoes, zuchinni, potatoes, and green (and purple) beans. The best part is, everything is extremely cheap, bunches are mostly $1 each. Go there, say hi, and enjoy the stir fry. UPDATE: Last weekend, early August 2008, the Huns had an early batch of ginger--kansas grown ginger? you ask. Yep, it's for real. As far as I know, it's the only midwest-grown ginger being grown around.

The patch normally opens mid June and highly recommend calling the Picking Report before heading out. If going with little ones, take a wagon or backpack carrier for them. Little fingers can't pick very fast and tend to get tired. They have a wonderful bakery with delicious muffins for sale and a general store with all kinds of jams, bakery items, honey and anything blueberry related. If you didn't pick enough, you can also buy "We Pick" berries, but calling ahead to reserve is recommended. Lots of picnic tables to enjoy baked goods or picnic lunches. Walking can be challenging on the gravel surfaces, but for anyone with difficulties can drive to the farther fields. There will still be walking involved and no hard surfaces.

We then walked all the way to the back of rows 1-3 and found a bevy of berries. After the gathering, we went back to the beginning and headed inside the little store where the berries were weighed and paid for. Fresh berries are a MUST in the summer and these were quite literally the freshest! I made jumbo blueberry muffins and a blueberry-topped cheesecake and they were delicious.
