No better Supermarket to shop in than Hen House, Lenexa! Before I graduated from the University of Wisconsin and became a registered Pharmacist, I worked at the, now closed, Grand Union, Clayton, New York. Back in the 60's I had a boss that had a big drinking problem as well as philandering around town. Inside Hen House, Lenexa I would be most surprised if those things were going on. The store is always neat and clean. Never an issue with the employees, only great customer service. A well-run venue with the right employees on the payroll. Keep up the good work. read more

We used to frequent this Hen House location more in the past, but with our recent relocation we thought we would try it again. We actually visited the store twice in the past week. Our recent visits reminded us of our past experiences. The store was clean. We liked the layout. The produce and meat department was nice. Lipstick goes so far. When you start looking closely, you'll see that many of their products are not fresh. We found expired RTE items, dairy products within days of expiration including eggs. Like this Hen House on 87th. Their poultry comes from local sources. Their meat personnel are knowledgeable and always quick to serve. I also like their choices of plant-based milks and great selection of eggs from local sources as well. Left off one star due to their limited selection of organic fruits and vegetables. read more

I've been a customer for years at the Hen House in Lenexa and considered it my favorite grocery store, BUT today I had a different experience. I purchased produce, got it home and discovered more than half of it was unusable. I bagged it, brought it back, showed the manager and said I wanted a refund. It was weird she didn't apologize, or ask if I wanted to get another yellow onion. She said she'd refund the amount to my credit card. She did her thing, but she was unable to refund it back to my card. Didn't say she'd give me cash to make it good. I just looked at her and said "Keep my money" and walked out. It's too bad the manager didn't make it good, didn't even really try. I'll be driving to another Hen House, even if it's inconvenient for me, to shop at a place that appreciates my business. read more

If you're Hispanic or black you'll probably be accused of trying to steal, this is not the first time this has happened to me or my family, constantly if one of us going just to by one thing or something we just walk in to check and see how much the meat is that day and walk out we get asked for our receipt even if we don't buy anything, today my sister was trying to find her card in her purse and the man at self checkout came all the way to the one we're at to tell her " do not forget to press pay" as if my sister wasn't going to pay, It's like they get a bonus to accuse people of stealing, they need a wake up call NOT EVERYONE IS A THEIF, we have money to pay for our food. I have to say this is the best grocery store in lenexa, they have a salad bar, a deli, they have a sushi section, a Poke bowl and feezing moo combined and last but not least, my holy grail during the winter and the only reason I am willing to grocery shop and not postmate my groceries. they have a Starbucks !! the staff here are all very nice, they have people cutting fresh fruit behind a little bar area they can make you fresh orange juice if you would like and they can also brew you tea (which I would like to add they have a pretty good and large variety to choose from) although it is little more pricey than a lot of the grocery stores I've been too I think that you really do get what you pay for. especially when they keep the grocery store very presentable and stocked at all times. oh goodness I almost forgot but they also have a really cute floral department. they have the nicest older lady working it and personally I love keeping flowers around the house and she is always more then happy to hand me the freshest flowers. I myself am not vegan but a lot of my family members are and I appreciate that they have a large variety of vegan and organic options, so I don't have to go out my way to find any other grocery store to find what I need. read more

Last night I went to Hen House and bought some groceries. When it came time to pay I found I left my billfold at home. I asked the cashier to if I could somehow come back and pay for them as I only had $22.00 on me. Then a gentleman behind me said just add them to my bill. I looked around and saw a well dressed, very nice looking white haired man. About 20 years younger than me, 87 here. I thanked him and said no. But he told the cashier to go ahead. The cashier did go ahead and it turned out he was David Ball owner of the store. He then gave the cashier the $22.00 as a tip for being so helpful. I have always loved this store. I come here just for the salad bar- it's that good. Of all the grocery stores and health food stores in KC, Hen House by far has the most superior salad bar. It is always stocked, has a bountiful variety of vegetables, is clean and the vegetables are fresh. The grocery store as a whole is a step above the rest, which means you're going to pay a little more. If you're a thrifty person, this is no Aldi's, though there can be some decent savings from time to time. The quality here is reliable and appreciated. read more

I love all Hen House locations. They can be more expensive than other stores but if you shop ads you will be just fine. I like that they have everything there; Starbucks, a bakery, postage stamps and a great floral department. The store is always clean as well and a good spot to drink coffee and work although Wifi can be spotty. This review is particularly for the floral services. They are so creative and accommodating. We are not typical flower fans but they will use ornamental items such as kale. They can create anything you come up with and for a fair price. All dance corsages are $24.99, competitively priced and boutonnières are $14.99. Friendly and fast service. I put my request in for a Saturday on the Wednesday before. read more

It has a decent selection of items but they have a loyalty card so unless you have one you can not get the best prices. The seafood section has the sounds of seagulls playing all the time. Having to listen to that while shopping can be a bit annoying. The building seems to block most all wireless signals from the outside and while it has free WiFi its slow and not woth using. We have frequented Hen House as our primary grocery store since moving to the KC area more than 10 years ago. It just always seems cleaner than other stores, and while you sometimes pay slightly higher prices than others, you tend to make up for it with their loyalty discounts. First impressions are lasting impressions, and Hen House won us over years ago. There are certain items that they don't carry that we have to visit other chains to get, but overall, we have been very satisfied. read more

When I come from the gym and I'm headed home Hen house opens early I can get everything that I need, the salad bar is fresh I grab a gallon of water and I can head out the door. Henhouse always seems to have exactly what I'm looking for if they don't have it you could talk to the store manager and order it I had a few specialty items that I needed and Jim was able to accommodate my needs within two weeks that item was on the shelves.that's what I'm talking about excellent customer service. read more

I love my local Hen House! It is always clean, nicely organized, and well stocked. The fruits and vegetables are consistently fresh and gorgeous, and I love the option to buy veggies that are already cut up. The fish guy is hilarious! I love visiting the fish counter, and even if I'm just passing by, he always takes the time to say hello from across the aisle. The guy must never take a day off though, because it's literally the same sweet man, every time I shop. I go to this Hen House location at least 3-4 times a week and it never disappoints. Bonus: They have a Starbucks! It is a bit more expensive than the HyVee store down the street, but ever so worth it. I love Hen House! read more

Let me say first even though I don't do the bulk of my shopping here I am a fan. They have great produce and meat but they tend to be more expensive than HyVee whose meat is just as good. HyVee's produce could use some help. When Hen House runs specials they are a great buy and I stock up. Usually twice a year they will run Green Giant veggies on sale $0.39 which is SUPER CHEAP. I usually buy my meat in bulk from a local farmer like 1/2 a side of beef at a time. But I do buy fish at Hen House and sometimes beef and pork if I forget to thaw something and need it quick. They have a really nice salad bar and you can get Tippin's pies here. I think it is the only place you can get them now. Staff is always nice and friendly and I love the self check out I wish more places had them. All in All a good store just a little pricey sometimes. Watch the ads and get good deals. read more

We stopped here for one of the "meal deals" that hen house does. They are often a pretty good way to get a quick dinner that's fine, and cheap, and easy. I was a bit suspicious because it was rotisserie chicken today, and i often hate grocery store rotisserie chicken. It's brined or injected or something and tends to be really ugh, watery, mealy, etc. So I insisted on a can of split pea soup, but when we got the dinner, there was an option for smoked chicken and we got that. This smoked chicken was very good. Mildly smoky, perfectly cooked, tender and moist and not adulterated (mealy, watery, etc). I noticed they had smoked ribs too, so I conclude that they have obtained a smoker and are cooking them out back. In my exp, hen house stores generally have a pretty high level of deli offerings, and this was quite superior. I would buy it again and again. I had split pea soup too, but didn't need it really. read more

This review is Specifically for the Floral Department. I needed a last minute wrist corsage. I called all the typical floral shops. All they offered were plain old tea roses. I was looking for something special, and again, last minute! I remembered I had always gotten beautiful flowers for my table at Hen House Market. What the heck, I gave it a shot. Wow! They couldn't have been any kinder, accommodating, Creative and helpful. I ended up with a gorgeous, full wrist corsage with the ranunculus I was looking for. Since then, I've ordered 2more, similar wrist corsages. Always beautiful, fresh and full. Not some skimpy, wimpy corsage that's wilted and sad in an hour. These ladies take their time with you. Hen House is the closest grocery store to home, so we're here pretty frequently. Their produce quality is good, meats are good, staff is friendly, etc. I can only bring myself to give it three stars because they are noticeably higher-priced than their nearby competition. Hy-Vee to the east and Sprouts to the west both offer quality foods and friendly service, but at lower prices. read more

They have the best deli meats in town (even if you get high grossed for them) in Boar's Head. The stuff is just the best. Their hot food and prefabbed sandwiches are also pretty good. The chicken strips and rotisserie chicken are both tasty. I wouldn't touch the sushi with a 10 foot pole, but everything else is quality. Just doesn't have the selection that HyVee or Price Chopper have in town. But always stop for the meat. And having a Starbucks inside as well is an added bonus at this location. read more

This is definitely our type of grocery store. Great deals and great food everywhere to be found. When we moved, we visited all the other area stores and decided Hen House is the best one. We have been very satisfied since shopping here and will continue to do so for a good while. The only thing it lacks is a pharmacy, which they have a Walgreen's across the street if you need one. When I walked in here, my first impression was this: Marsh and Whole Foods got together and had a baby. This isn't a problem, in fact, I think it makes for a really nice store. I enjoyed meandering around and checking out all sorts of goodies. They had an awesome produce section and a nice seafood/meat section. If I was a ____ salad kind of girl, their wide selection of potato, pasta, fruit, chicken salads would call to me pretty heavily. There regular salad bar, done by weight I believe, looked awesome too. I may have to try that some day, probably a lazy day. Price wise, for me at this budget phase of my life, it was a tad on the higher side for me. I think I'll still to Walmart and Aldi for the bulk of my things and then go to Hen House for the fun stuff. read more

I have been ordering my Easter dinner standing rib roast from Hen House for 11-years. It is always the size I want and turns out tender and tasty every time. I love their butcher department - there is always someone there to help, give you exactly what you want and will give you ideas on what type of meat will work best for your recipe. The produce department is also fantastic. They have a great selection and everything is always fresh. The salad bar is kept clean and is never out of anything as they refresh it often. read more

The Starbucks in this location is AWFUL! Treat their customers like crap and zero respect for the people paying their paycheck. On my last visit, I was told that I have to pay EXTRA to get my drink filled to the top since I asked for no ice. Seriously the worst Starbucks ever. I'm confronted with that Yelp conundrum again.You think a place is a bit more than three stars, but not quite four stars. You're left with saying, my review is more of a 3.5 rating. The staff at this location definitely gets 4 to 5 stars. They've always been helpful and friendly. The store is clean and well organized as well, although it has a bit of a different layout than I'm used to in other stores. I'm not a regular in this store, but when I'm already in the area and in need of something, this is the place I'll go. I have noticed the higher prices on many items. I do carry their card so I know I'm getting the sale prices, but non sale items seem higher in price than other stores. That's okay with me, because I'm typically just getting a few items. I have encountered not finding what I'm looking for because they don't carry it. I'm sure you could make a request to management that they carry the item, but since I don't frequent the place, I'll just get it from where I know carries it. If this was the closest store to me, I'm sure I'd be a frequent patron, but for now, I'll continue to pop in and get what I need at the time when I'm in the area. read more

This store is really nice, really fancy. You walk in to see rows upon rows of check out lanes with guest service, the bakery, the dry cleaners, photo, etc to the left and a Chinese take-out, Starbucks, and the floral department to the right. As you make your way through the store, you will likely take note of the massive selection of items from which to choose. Their produce is pretty good as is their meat and seafood. The decor is a nice touch as is the sound machine that makes you feel as though you're out to sea (kind of). I was really impressed with the overall look of the store... until I got my bill for my few items. Let's just say that for them to maintain such a nice facility, they gotta make the money somehow. This is why I'm only giving 4 stars. For aesthetics, they definitely get 5 stars. read more
