Mercadito is the right name for this place because it's a very small Latino convenience store/restaurant. I almost just wish they'd make it one or the other because it feels a bit cramped. The service here is average. They aren't overly attentive, but that's ok because I understand there are very few people doing a lot of work in a small space. The tacos here are really good though. We now just order online and take it to go. The tripas tacos are my favorite. read more

Service- Pretty good, guy was nice. Speed - lighting fast! I walked in order 4 tacos , 2 asada 2 chicken and I was out of there in less that 5 mins that felt more like 3. Price - pretty fair, what you would expect $2 per street taco Food - crazy fresh & hot, chicken was what you expect, not over seasoned, juicy. Asada I wish it wasn't chopped into smaller pieces like ground beef but overall very flavorful Restaurant - not necessarily the place I would go sit down with the family, it's small. It's a very, very, very small place. Looks like it's family owned, even the teens help out. A lot of stuff you could buy at Walmart, and nothing had prices. We regrettably spent $75 for a family of 5. The aguas frescas were good - we got horchata, and agua de sandía. Pork, and chicken tamales were dry. Tamales de elote were nothing to shout about. Born and raised in Mexico, this food hurt my heart! 3 carne asada tacos - meat was very fatty, I got sick. 3 al Pastor - hubby said it tasted like seasoned ground pork, and very fatty also. I wouldn't go back. They really need more help. I'm actually unsure of some of these pictures people have posted. The food my family and I were served did not look anywhere close to what these people have posted. read more

Gordita and sope. Clean fast friendly. We both enjoyed our food it was fresh and very good quality. Sauces were very good. . There is an area for eating in but we were doing carry out. Has a little grocery area if you are looking for seasonings for your favorite authentic recipe. Prices were reasonable. read more

I don't know how we waited so long to try this place for the first time. The tacos are spectacular! We also had chips and queso - and the chips were as good as any we've ever had. Worker came into where I work and I notice the logo on her shirt. Since I use to live in Denver and got great Mexican food when ever I wanted. I asked young lady how was the tamales she said all I can say is come try us. I also fell in love with the pezole and she explained dish only served on Sunday. I've seen this location for over year and just assumed it was an ethnic based quick mart. I noticed the reviews last night and decided to stop in for a couple tacos. This is a fantastic place to sneak in and grab a quick lunch. Only four tables so make quick work of your lunch. I loved the authenticity of the food and the establishment. Nothing beats eating local and at an establishment that is truly a "small business". After today's beef tacos I'll be going back. read more

Located in a small unit inside a strip mall it may be easy to overlook them, but I've found that the best food is not always in a big fancy building. The service is a bit confusing, so I'll tell you: seat yourself they will bring you a menu. When you are done just walk up to the counter to pay. The prices are very reasonable. The tacos El pastor are my favorite thing on the menu; and they are amazing!!!! 2-3 of them with their green tomatillo sauce and a side of beans makes for a perfect meal! It's a small family restaurant inside of a market/convenience store where the younger generation helps serving food and taking orders (sometimes while doing homework during slow times). The atmosphere is more of a market where you're eating close to boxes of fresh produce and tables are really close together -like open markets around the world. They don't take drink orders but you can get your own drink from the large selection inside the cooler (Jarritos anyone?)... and if you need a bottle opener, it's under the cash register's ledge. Food wise, you'll find the typical plates found at most Mexican restaurants in Missouri but you'll also find more authentic options not so readily available farther away from downtown KC. My favorite menu item is the fried whole fish (Mojarra frita) but it does take some time to cook... I guess you can't rush perfection. When in a hurry go for the tacos; they're one of the fastest menu items. In my many visits, I'm always happy to see the mix of people that enjoys this place. Latinos and non-latinos, the work lunch crowd, families with little ones, etc. Good food always has the power to bring people together. This place does it right. read more

To say this place is hidden in Lees Summit is an understatement. Once I found the little bodega-esque spot nestled inside a strip mall, I was excited to place my order for chicken and carnitas "street" tacos. I lived in Dallas, TX for 3 years, so I'm more than familiar with Fuel City Tacos and the like---fresh corn tortillas, juicy meat, lots of cilantro, onions, and hella lime wedges, right? Well, this place has all that. However, the meat was rather bland and dry....the different salsas (red and green) are a necessity because they come through where the meat does not. Finally! Real Mexican food in Lee's Summit! El Mercadito was formerly, El Mini Super. The new owners have added a eatery to it and scaled back on the grocery side to a small portion of the business. The eatery is small, with about four tables but let me tell you this is the only place in Lee's Summit where you can find real Mexican food! Their tacos are excellent and remind me of when I lived in Mexico as too are their gorditas. The service is quick and the owners are super hospitable and friendly. On the grocery side, you have your Mexican basics from Ariel Laundry Detergent, to Mexican candies, spices and condiments. They have a cooler with popular Mexican beverages such as Jarritos, Sangria amongst others. They carry fresh, locally-produced tortillas. I love this place, and feel great supporting a local family who's doing a darn good job at starting off their little business. Come support them and enjoy some fabulous food! read more

The chicken, steak & pork carnitas were good. But the true stars were the al pastor (pork marinated w/ dried Chiles, citrus juices & Mexican spices) and the lengua (yes tongue, but think melt in your mouth roast beef) And the tripas were crispy like chicharrones! Just try them! #trustme They also have gorditas (think Mexican biscuits stuffed w/ meat) and sopes (think open faced tamales but crispy). With both you choose from the same meats as the tacos. Their burritos & quesadillas are HUGE and grilled till crispy! The tortas looked legit too! Everything was delicious! But that al pastor was so craveable! Quick take-out lunch, first time here. Ordered one of each kind of taco: steak, chicken, al pastor, and...? Forgot, they went down so fast! Served on doubled up soft corn tortillas, the street tacos are quite small as they are--only 2-3 bites per taco. Topped with fresh chopped onion and cilantro. Super tasty. Help yourself to the small tubs of red and green sauce. Red is hotter, green is very flavorful and mild. I was intrigued by the "Inca Kola" soda, clear, bright yellow in the 2-liter bottle, so googled it while I waited for my tacos. It's from Peru, and sold on Amazon for $10 a 2-liter! My 4 tacos plus the pop was $11-something. It's a very casual place with quick, friendly service and delicious, authentic food. I'll be back. read more
