I come to this Starbucks regularly and usually have a smooth experience, which is why what happened today was so disappointing. I walked in and waited while the employee (Dan, green hair) prepared pastries for three customers ahead of me. I stood there for about five minutes before he even greeted me or took my order. That already felt dismissive. When I finally ordered, I asked for a pup cup first, which is something I do every single day. I have a routine with my dog, Kylo. I always ask for the pup cup before my drink so he can have it while I wait so he won't get excited inside the store. Every other employee has accommodated this without issue because it literally takes a moment. Dan refused and said he wasn't going to "make other people wait" to prepare a pup cup. This was frustrating considering he had just made multiple pastries before even acknowledging me. It takes less than a minute, and this has never been a problem before. When I calmly questioned the inconsistency, he told me I was being rude. Then when he asked for my name, I chose not to give it, and he labeled my drink and pastry as "Rude." When my order was called out, they said "Rude, your drink is ready" and "Rude, your pastry is ready." That was humiliating and completely out of line. No customer deserves to be mocked or labeled like that, especially in front of a store full of people. I did call and speak to the store manager afterward, and he was kind and offered to make it right, which I appreciate. But this type of behavior from someone working in customer service is unacceptable. If you're having a bad day, you still don't get to embarrass customers. I hope this is addressed properly. read more

Makes it easy to grab my coffee and go when I stay here. *I usually order my extra hot oat milk latte with 3 longs shots & no foam. The barista's are very nice and the wait time is quick. You have the option of ordering on the app at this location which makes the wait time even shorter. Very clean inside with a few tables. read more

MY FAVORITE STARBUCKS in SD! OMG, this Starbucks has the best staff on the planet. I've never encountered friendlier staff than at this location. During SDCC they had the shop running smoothly and efficiently. They had half of the team working on mobile orders and the others serving walk-in customers. Everyone had a smile and they played a part in making my Comic Con magical. I love that the staff had nerdy stuff on and that they treated each guest respectfully. I love an inclusive coffee scene. I dropped by several times during SDCC and they remembered my name! Thousands of people walked through the coffee shop and they took the time to appreciate their customers and give us dignity. My coffee (cold brew & espressos) was delicious, and my food was just as tasty. It's a bustling Starbucks location, even when SDCC isn't in town I always see a few folks because this is right by the Gaslamp. Please thank these talented baristas, they're phenomenal! read more

This Starbucks location is located in the Gaslamp of San Diego. one great thing is that with this being one of the few legitimate fully operational Starbucks locations so they do take mobile orders. This way you can time your order and not have to wait in line for your order to get processed. This is located downstairs of the Hard Rock so last time when I was staying here I was able to place my order and pick it up a few minutes late. It gets really busy in the mornings so plan ahead. Overall, it isn't a huge store so it's not necessarily set up where you can be in there just to sit and chat. I like to be adventurous and try some of the seasonal drinks that Starbucks is trying to advertise. Usually they tend to be fairly good and they're only there for a limited time. The sous vide egg bites are an underrated food item that everyone should try. Sign up for the Starbucks rewards so you can get stars for your orders that you can redeem later on for food or beverages. read more

I'm deeply disappointed and hurt by the experience I had at Starbucks today. I've always seen Starbucks as a place of community and kindness, but what I encountered today was nothing short of discriminatory and degrading. I was struggling for about four minutes trying to remove the nitro cap from my coffee. Despite clearly seeing me struggle, the barista "Ernie" just stood there, watching. When I finally asked for help, he refused, claiming he couldn't assist because I had put my mouth on the lid something that only happened after several minutes of struggling, out of sheer frustration. When I finally managed to get the cap off and tasted my drink outside, I realized it was made completely wrong it was way too strong, even though I specifically asked for only one shot. So, I went back inside and politely asked another barista to remake my drink. As she reached for my cup, I jokingly mentioned, "Be careful, my mouth was on it," referring to the previous interaction. That's when the same barista "Ernie" who refused to help earlier felt the need to insert himself into the conversation, making the situation even worse by stating I didn't need to be aggressive? (Sarcastic not Aggressive-Pls know the difference or not speak since you clearly couldn't help? Right!) I already felt humiliated and discriminated against when he wouldn't touch my cup or help with the cap, but what happened next was truly shocking. He escalated the situation, canceled my order, took my drink, and refused to let the other barista remake it. (Knowing that Starbucks policy is to happily remake if a customers drink was made incorrectly) To make matters worse, as I was leaving, I distinctly heard him mutter "ghetto ass" under his breath. Out of more than a dozen visits to this Starbucks (Daniel usually being an amazing barista with great customer service), I've never had an issue until today with ERNIE, my first time dealing with Ernie. This incident has left me feeling angry, humiliated, and deeply hurt. This was not just a bad customer service experience; it felt like blatant discrimination. As a customer, I have the legal right to be treated fairly and without discrimination, especially in public places like Starbucks. What happened to me today felt like a violation of those rights. I didn't deserve to be treated like that, no one does. I'll be escalating this to the owner, and if necessary, to corporate, as I know my rights. I'm sorry, but this "Ghetto Ass" is very intelligent, and this situation is recorded with him saying this. I'm not sure what happened to the values Starbucks stands for, but today, they were nowhere to be found in that store. I hope that no one else has to go through what I did today. read more

I had to wait maybe 5 minutes for my mobile order even though I placed it roughly 4-5 blocks away walking, but every staff member was friendly and working their butts off. My drink came out hot and made right, and everything was running smoothly. I never thought Starbucks can mess up a simple Venti with light ice . I go there all the time after running over 6 miles at 6 am . The guy with glasses poured a whole cup of ice which filled up my venti . Now hi is that light ice ? When I told him I want light ice he was like this is light ice . I was staying at a hotel around the corner from this Starbucks. I stopped in close to the 6am hour. A clean nice coffee store with a large space. There is lots of coffee and Starbucks products to purchase. The three baristas serving the early morning coffee sippers were prompt and friendly. This location was super walkable, it was quite busy in the late afternoon, but pretty fast service. The employee that helped me was really nice. I ordered a cinnamon caramel cream, cold brew. It's one of their new drinks and they asked if I wanted nitro or regular cold brew and I didn't know the difference and I figured out that I like regular cold brew better because it has ice and the nitro one does not. I was very grateful to the employee that helped explain this. The drink was made very well and we were able to sit there and get a window seat and enjoy the drink. I subtract 2 stars for it being small, cramped with uncomfortable seating. Starbucks is pretty consistent at most locations. This one is a high traffic area as it is next to Hard Rock Hotel,in the heart of the gaslamp district, and just near the convention center. I waited about 5 minutes, with about 6 people ahead of me and the line moved very quickly. The staff were friendly and efficient. I did read some comments about the lines, I was on vacation so I can't attest to the day-to-day volume, but would assume ordering and picking up would be a good choices if a major convention is in town. read more

This location is attached to the Hard Rock Hotel, but facing 5th Ave. It's not a bad Starbucks, but it's small, however it does provide some seating right outside and inside. I came in during lull. while I was waiting for some friends to make it downtown, and I ordered a grande unsweetened ice green tea. The green tea was good and served with just the right amount of ice to keep it chilled for the duration of my stay. Service was okay. I thought the employees could of been a little friendlier, but than again, they were quite busy and appeared to be pressed. I did use their Wi-Fi via my laptop and it worked efficiently for the part, except for a few lags. This Starbucks is very busy given its location and does not have a lot of room for large study groups. It is however, a great place to meet up before heading for night out on the town. read more

HORRIBLE SERVICE, my go to drink is an venti oatmik shaken expresso with 5 shots and extra oatmilk 3/4 and I got half of a venti cup with super bitter coffee that tasted like water. The workers at this Starbucks are amazing! It's usually pretty crowded as it is in a very touristy area downtown near hotels, but always a positive experience! Today, I saw a man who repeatedly came in without a mask, complaining that his order was taking too long. The workers were incredibly respectful, asked him to please put on a mask, and said they were working on his order. He ultimately asked for a refund even though his order was nearly ready (by the time he received the refund it was ready,) then stormed out of the cafe saying expletives. The workers responded to a tough situation by "killing it with kindness," and did not stop moving and filling orders the whole time I was waiting. I've been to this Starbucks many times, and it's always the same. I wanted to make sure they received a review explaining my great experiences here to counter the one the mean man is probably going to post. I wish there were a way to give HIM a review.
