This is my least favorite Starbucks in all of Starbucks land, but it's unfortunately the one that's closest to my house. So today, I ordered a salted caramel mocha with extra salt via mobile order. Walked the few blocks to get there just in time to see the lid being put on my drink without it being salted. Asked the barista if the extra salt had been put on, and he says, "Well no, we're out of salt." Which would make it NOT the drink I ordered. And if I hadn't seen him not put the salt on it, I would have walked out with NOT what I ordered, and Starbucks staff would have known it had happened. Looked at my drink label, it said "extra salt." Looked at my receipt, it had been changed to "no salt." My mobile app noted that this location was out of several other drinks, well guess what- IF YOU'RE OUT OF SALT, YOU'RE OUT OF SALTED CARAMEL DRINKS! And the app should say so. This kind of thing has happened to me at this location before. Also, there's a legal notice on the door that this location had improperly overcharged customers. When I used to be in the area, I would every once in a while stop at this Starbucks to get a drink after classes. While this location is a little small on the inside, luckily they have outside seating areas with umbrellas up. In general, their dining areas were pretty clean, but now during quarantine, I'm assuming that dine in is not available. The drinks and food were great on all the occasions I visited this Starbucks. I got their peppermint mocha during their holiday special last year and was pleasantly surprised at how refreshing and warming it was! Their hot teas available year-round also were great in the winter time. Their banana nut and pumpkin breads were some of my favorites in the bakery section, not too sweet and super fluffy. The employees that work there are also really friendly and they've gotten my order accurate every time I've been there. Overall, I would definitely recommend this location to anyone in the Pasadena area! read more

I'm honestly confused by all the reviews where they say the staff is so nice. Easily the rudest Starbucks in the LA area. Some baristas will openly talk smack about customers, they will ignore disabled customers while tending immediately to others, and just in general tend to be fairly unkind. The locations on Colorado and Lake have awesome crews so not sure what's up with this spot. read more

I was going to write this review last month, but didn't know the person's name I wanted to review, but now do. Sadly, the day I get his name, I find out this is his last day, as he will be going out of state for his doctorate! Congratulations! I just found out Randel has been working there for years, but I have never encountered him for some reason until about a month or so ago! Anyway, he is super friendly and old school, which is an invaluable tool to have with customers, and I was even more impressed right after my 2nd encounter with him; by the 2nd time, he had greeted me by my name when I came in, and asked if I was getting my Venti Earl Grey with 2 pumps of sugar free vanilla and 2 ounces of heavy whipping cream steamed!!! What, after only his 2nd time serving me, not only did he greet me by name, but remembered my specialty order??!! Such old school customer service skills! There are quite a few newer people in the last couple of years there that are awesome and super friendly; it's baristas like that that make Starbucks! The best known Starbucks in San Gabriel Valley was the Arcadia Starbucks (Naomi), which was old school like that, and that's why it was hopping with regulars (especially when Joddy was manager back in the day), and why when I moved to Pasadena about 4 years ago, still drove all the way to Arcadia to my hometown Starbucks, but with quite a few of the newer people the Pasadena (Hill) Starbucks has, and those few being super friendly and old school, this Starbucks is definitely moving up! Most Starbucks employees aren't very friendly, so when you come across a Starbucks like this, it adds to the experience! I went to starbucks, located in 161 N. Hill Avenue ,Pasadena on May 4. I accompanied my wife and 1year old grandson. It was raining on and off. We dropped there and ordered one cafe latte. Unfortunately my credit card was not working because it was issued from a bank in Korea. We were traveling here a couple of months.(at my faughter home). Even we had no cash on hand. So I gave up the ordered coffee. While we were staying inside till rain stopped. Then the young woman staff brought me a cup of coffee for free. It was incredible moment for us. I have never experienced such wonferful care from any coffee shop around the world. I think the staff consered the overall situation. And she gave it free. The staff here is so enthusiastic and always ready to give you more than you expect. Drinks are always made as your ordered, if you end up with an incorrect drink they'll fix it and you now have 2 drinks to yourself. This is how all businesses should be ran! This is a Starbucks for the terminally hip, so know your demographic. If you do not fit into the PCC-aged subgroup, beware! It's Sunday, and I hobbled into this busy outlet (I use a cane) at 9:15 AM to order a black venti drip, a blueberry muffin, and to use the wifi as I'm in- between intenet providers at home. The beardo barista all but sneered at me as he asked "Room?". I looked at him and said "Pardon?" he said again "Room?" After i intuited that he was using his personal shorthand to inquire whether I need space to add cream and sugar to my order of a "black" venti drip, I repeated "Black venti drip." Beardo barista then said "Warm?" I again looked at him and said, after I decided he was not referring to my coffee but was asking whether I wanted my blueberry muffin to be microwaved, I replied "No." Again he asked "Name?" I told him " Bruce" and he gave me my coffee. Perhaps this barista only communicates in monosyllables. Perhaps he is somewhere on the spectrum of people with communication issues. Perhaps he is trying to be efficient by purging his vocabulary of anything not a noun, verb or adjectival modifier. I suspect he is too cool to waste breath on old customers. I hobbled to the adjacent patio with my coffee and used the wifi. It is now ten o'clock, and my cold muffin, which the bearded barista had no time to put into a bag and hand to me, is nowhere to be found. Guess he was too busy to put a muffin th a bag, so he probably put it on the counter, but my leg hurts and I don't want to hobble back inside to pick up an item he could have just as daily handed to me with my coffee in between his one-syllable grunts (I mean, how long does it take to put a blueberry muffin in a bag?). I was running errands and left my phone at home and decided to stop by Starbucks and grab two danishes. The danishes I got had bad stuff all over them. When I drove back to the store, the manager said they used dirty utensils and that was crumbs from their other pastries. She offered to refund my money and remake the two danishes after she cleaned the utensils. However, she somehow did not clean it well because the two she remade had a little crumbs but not as much as the other ones. Also, she never gave me back my refund instead she gave me $4 off cards for a next visit. This location does not treat African Americans with the same level of respect and customer service that they do other races. It's a shame I have to drive to another Starbucks to get quality when this one is closer to my house. I am very disappointed with the service. They also did not give me a receipt. Now I have to look for corporate's number online to file a complaint. Cleanliness should be their upmost priority when serving their guest. Using unclean utensils is totally unacceptable for a Starbucks!! I enclosed the picture of the danishes from my second visit I did not have my phone on me the first time! Most of the staff here is excellent! I come here about 3-4 times a week and I've always had a great experience. The drinks are always made excellently. During yesterday's visit I encountered a very RUDE customer! Luda, the girl at the register handled the situation beautifully! She was very professional and she she even apologized to me on behalf of the customer for having to witness that. Definitely my go to Starbucks. I come here about twice a week it's usually very busy but I've never waited longer than a few minutes for a drink. All the baristas are very friendly and make sure to have some sort of small conversation with you during your visit. The store is very clean and well-maintained. The one complaint I might have is that the parking kind of sucks. Especially during the early morning, so beware. I usually try to find parking on the street before turning into the lot read more

This is by far the best Starbucks I've ever been to. It's always clean, there's a chill vibe, the music isn't loud or annoying, and the baristas are awesome. Especially David. My review is specifically towards the yonger female employee at this location. I went in for my usual bag o' beans with a free tall beverage at the green star level on my card. (Give me a break.. I drink a lot of coffee so I take advantage of their program). Normally things go smooth, but this individual just broke my holiday spirit. My wife gave her the beans and asked for a tall latte. She takes the beans straight to the grinder without scanning them and says: "2.75". My wife and I look at each other like.. "...wtf". She then proceeds trying to convince us that the tall beverage is not free, and never has been. You should be fired lady, you don't know how your own reward program works. At this point I couldn't be more angry, not for the measly few bucks but for the fact that this person is so incompetent. Totally agree with Liyah. I'm pretty sure she's some supervisor/manager but I don't know how the hell she got the position considering Starbucks is so well known for their customer relations and friendliness! They work quickly and always have my order perfect; come in here enough and the staff already knows your regular drink. Great staff overall save for that one lady. However if you are a coffee diva, I recommend their espresso drinks rather than coffee because it is simply just too watered down. Bleh. Still, my favorite Starbucks in Pasadena!
