I'm a major coffee lover. Now, that's coffee LOVER and in no way does that mean "addict" for those who may think otherwise. With that said, although there may be better mom & pop coffee shops on the island, this is the one place I constantly come back to. And, particularly this Lihue location. My reasoning for that is simple, for the longest time before I figured out there were better places to get my coffee, this was the only place easiest & available. Therefore, coming here is somewhat of a habit for me. But besides that, the employees are friendly & when extremely busy they seem to work fairly well under pressure (from what I've observed). The ambiance is very cool. lots of seating, nice/comfy furniture, great music. Like most coffee shops, it's a great place for students to get their study on. I'm a fellow Starbucks partner, if someone comes into my store at 9:59 pm & we close at 10pm, we have to greet them with a smile. I came to this location at 8:55 and they closed at 9. They didn't want to take me as a customer. They said their "system shut down" because in the system "it's already 9". That makes no sense what so ever. read more

Bad experience. Four employees working, only ONE making drinks that happened to be all pick up orders. My mom and I waited 18 minutes for two drinks, one of which was a simple ICED COFFEE with syrup. Another employee on the phone, another stocking supplies(who was wearing a plaid shirt instead of uniform black, leading me to believe he was a manager) and one taking orders who then proceeded to make a pick up order. I apologized to the poor girl who had to make all the drinks and told her it was pretty ridiculous she was the only one. Fix this process Starbucks! Start allowing more people scheduled so two people can take care of online orders and another employee can take care of in-store orders. read more

Make the smart decision to use mobile ordering vs paying in the store. Your prices will be consistent, barista won't charge for wrong drink and you won't be nickle and dimed for extras or requests that are supposed to be free or come with the drink i.e. toppings. read more

I had ordered a cloud macchiato yesterday but with heavy cream (because i like my drinks with heavy cream) and the girl said oh its thicker cause its with heavy cream and i said okay thats fine. Today i ordered the same drink made the same way and the same girl made my drink but she kept insisting that it was too thick so she dumped it out and tried it again. But still said it was too thick so she threw it away and just poured heavy cream into a cup and made a regular macchiato. Worst experience of customer service ever read more

I wanted so hard to love this Starbucks as it is closest to home- but far too many times I have been disappointed. Audrey, a barista that is often working the register has been unpleasant on a few occasions. I typically mobile order so I can avoid the line and her- but once again I was disappointed with her service. I ordered two iced coffees with a regular splashes of coconut milk- she charged me for coconut milk- and after I asked for the regular splash which should be complimentary, she still charged me and put "lite" coconut milk on my drinks. Disappointing. Also, she spoke with such authority and when she didn't want to put 2 stickers on my Ice-Cool drink promotional card- saying that the stickers are per-purchase... But the card clearly states "for each grade iced tea or coffee you purchase." That would be two- but I refused to argue with her as she showed little concern for me as it was. I know it's silly- but we buy a lot of iced coffee- and the promos are worth it for us! In addition to the customer service- the store and working bar area are always a mess. I know that they are a VERY busy store- but that should not reflect in the cleanliness of a food/drink service area. Today there was milk and crushed nuts all over the bar. Gross. Especially when there were multiple employees behind the counter chatting. If you've got time to lean, you've got time to clean! Second time I have come to this one since I've been on the island and they have ran out of what I wanted or just ordered. The employees here don't seem like they are very happy. My wife is from Kauai. We spend a lot of time in this Starbucks, and I always have the same complaints: 1) This location takes longer than any location I have ever been to. No, it's not just because this location is always busy. I have been to other locations with a constant busy flow like this one, but they hammer out the drinks like crazy. At this location, the baristas are always taking their time about everything. Like a lot of time. If I am in a hurry, I never go to this location. There are others on the island that I will drive out of my way to go to that end up saving me time. 2) The drinks are always barely mediocre. It would be one thing if I waited all the time it takes them to make drinks and ended up with a phenomenal drink every time. I would wait for that. But when I wait as long as I do, then the drink comes out tasting terrible, I lose all patience. I will give one compliment. The staff here is always friendly. They may not really know what they are doing, but at least they smile while doing it. Summary: if you go to this location, you will wait a long time for a drink that is not good, but the people are nice. Tips: USE THE BETA ORDERING! Order ten to fifteen minutes ahead of time. The Starbucks coffee itself is everything you'd expect with pretty good service, no complaints there. I am giving this place 2 stars because the bathroom at 9 am looked like it had been through a three day music festival without being serviced at all. I still have no idea what happened in there between the hours of opening and 9am. Personally I would like to enjoy my $5 coffee without the a full bladder. Worst Starbucks ever! Walked in 2 hours before closing time...floors we completely wet from mopping, all stools were flipped on the tables, and bathrooms were closed for the night. I would give Starbucks a zero-star rating but that's not permitted here. There's no need for one Starbucks in Kauai, let alone several locations. Hawaii is the one state that grows coffee. Even Kauai has a few coffee plantations. That coffee is much better than the sludge Starbucks brews up. Very nice Starbucks with convenient parking, friendly service, and plenty of pastries. They even offered to heat my pumpkin scone, something that they won't dare do at my local Starbucks Oakland California. You looking for a Starbucks before you reach the Lihue airport this is your best bet. I love Starbucks. Been to this location a few times. I've always had a cheerful person taking my order, even when it's slammed. It gets pretty much since it's right there smack in front of the mall. Asked for a 1% Mocha. Cashier marked my cup nonfat. When I received my drink I informed the barista that I asked for 1% milk. With attitude she said, "We don't have 1%, only nonfat and 2%." I asked (very nicely) if she could mix the nonfat and 2% (which they've always automatically done at Starbucks for me). So, she dumps out half my coffee (including chocolate and espresso) and adds 2% milk. Um, thanks. I returned the next day (cause I needed coffee) and the guy working the station made my mocha perfectly (which is the reason for two stars instead of one). read more

Way too busy and slow

Yes, it's a Starbucks and yes, I'm giving it 4 stars. And I know what you're thinking. I could go to any other coffee spot and get myself delicious Kona coffee, but I went here. Of course I went here. They have the true bearistas in stock. TAKE NOTE GOOD PEOPLE. The Hawaiian Bearista, which is the little bear that has a Hawaii shirt on, is sold here. Not the one that says "2009" or the one that says "2010" on it's foot, but the one that just says "Hawaii" so for that SB addict in your life, that you can't find the right souvenir for, it's here. What I really appreciated about this Starbucks was the available plugs for power were plentiful and working. The Kapaa Starbucks was dismal and plugs were loose. This kuhio hwy Starbucks was classic mall vibe to their merit the staff and baristas were sweet and beautiful. read more

Yuck. I wouldn't even give it one star except the free samples of dark coffee were great. Didn't know you could ruin a Starbucks espresso but they managed to do it consistently! They need help. It may be a problem with spoiled milk? I don't know what the problem is, but after trying their espresso drinks 2 days in a row, I was thoroughly discouraged and started going elsewhere. I like Starbucks in general and this one is just fine. The main reason I am only giving it three stars is because as far as Starbucks go, I feel this one has room for improvement. For starters, I would really like it to have more indoor seating (at night, it's cold and dark outside, during the day, it's hot outside). Also, I really wish it would stay open later (like 10 and 11 pm). When I went there regularly in the evenings, the manager would often close it earlier than the posted hours. Naturally when he closed it early, it was a total bummer for those of us that had the expectation that it was open. Starbucks management should be ashamed. One barista to another at this location this AM: "what's steamed breve?" The reply from another barista: "I don't know" - followed by a snicker. You would think that, with such poor coffee skills on display, at least they would excel at keeping the restroom clean - but you would be sadly mistaken. I've seen more appealing beach urinals. Fairly standard Starbucks that gets VERY crowded on the weekends. It's the only one in the area and part of Kukui Grove so there's a lot of foot traffic. They staff pretty well though so orders are relatively quick. That being said, it's loud so don't expect a peaceful spot to enjoy your coffee. They do have Kona coffee at a premium price. read more

I would have given this Starbuck's 3 stars but changed it to 1 instead. I went in to buy a travel mug that says Hawaii on it as a souvenir to give to someone. I asked them to fill it up with their regular coffee. Most other Starbuck's I have been to in the US, as well as one in Tokyo, would not charge me for the coffee. After all I just paid $10 for a mug. But this place charged me for the coffee! I asked th why and they said that they always charged for coffee, that there were no free coffee for the mug purchase. I told them everywhere else I went to get the mug I wa given complimetary coffee. They didn't want to deal with it so I bring it down to 1 star. read more

I don't have a problem with the flavor of the drinks or the food but the service has gone down terribly. When I grab my drink & say thank you, no response from the workers. They look miserable and quite frankly, some of them are quite sassy. It's a shame when you have a great product but staff who don't give a s#*t.
