I normally don't rate chains, but this is the FIRST time that I actually sat at a Starbucks and people watched, and I must say, this Starbucks is quite interesting.
I chose this Starbucks to meet up with someone to discuss some issues. I went in on a Wednesday night at 8, and it was packed. Packed with regulars, and people who just sit there to chat, date, read, or work or even people watch themselves. It was very difficult for me to find a seat. I was eyeing this particular seat, but apparently I was too slow and someone got to it first. When I did find a seat, it was very close to the other seats, so if felt like I was sitting on top of the person next to me. This is definitely not the best place to have a private talk, and I was feeling quite anxious, as I didn't want my neighbors to hear what I was saying when the said person arrives. So I tried to calm myself down by ordering a hot chocolate. At $3.21, it tasted quite awful, but as long as I had something of Starbucks on the table, I feel like I can stay for however long I want.
As I waited for the person, I noticed some weird guy sitting next to me. He seemed to be a regular and he was chatting with a female friend. At the table next to him was a guy and a girl clearly on a date. When her date went to the bathroom, the guy next to me started talking to her while his female companion was talking to him. Weird! He told her that she looked familiar and asked for her name. He was quite a weirdo and looked like he was on drugs or something, or perhaps just too much coffee, since he kept glancing to the back, and to the sides. Thankfully, he left after awhile. Then I noticed at the back, there were seats available! I ran to the back and safely secured my seat. There was a couple at one table and a Spanish elderly man watching a Korean drama at another. When the man with the woman got up to use the restroom, the Spanish man started talking to the woman in FRENCH. Interesting! After awhile, they left, but the Spanish man was still there. He started talking to me a bit, asking where I was from and how he knew 6 languages, and would love to learn Mandarin. As he was leaving, he asked if I had dinner. I replied no and he asked if he can buy me dinner next time. Of course I replied no, but thanked him for the offer. He wished me Happy Chinese New Year, and started telling me his life story about how he ended up in the US. It was quite an interesting story, but alas he had to leave, as the said person who I was to discuss issues with had finally arrived.
Anyways, I probably shouldn't be telling you his story, since he said that he is writing a book about his life. Therefore, you may find a biography about a Brazilian man and his story of how he ended up in the United States working as an architect.
As for this Starbucks, it's ok to just get coffee, but it seems like there are never any empty seats! I left the Starbucks at 10 something and it was still packed! read more
