Came here to study and to check out this cafe. What I got; Iced Matcha Lavender ; 4.5-5: the matcha meshed well with the lavender and I would totally get this again. Tomato quiche: 4.5/5- The quiche could've been bigger because of the pricing. Overall, it was pretty good for first time trying quiche at red pipe. The coleslaw meshed well with the tomato quiche. Overall, you need to get there early if you want to study there. This place has limited spots opened once all the laptop customers like to study there. They accept cash and card. A Forest Hills staple and rightfully so. I didn't grow up going to FH, so I missed out on most of the pre-corporate gentrification days of Austin St, but it's very obvious that Red Pipes has stood the test of time and is one of the long-standing businesses in the neighborhood. I adore this place a lot. The food is neither amazing or great (and a bit pricey) and the coffee is good for what it is (and decently priced), but it's a charmingly quaint place to unwind and relax--definitely an introvert's paradise, which is surprising, given that their location gets some of the most foot traffic on Austin. Don't expect a fancy selection of drinks that you can find at nearby cafes, which is part of their appeal to keep things simple. read more

The owner is the most professional and welcoming person in FOREST HILLS. He has the best coffee. Try the cold brew, you will not be sorry. Oh btw the raspberry lemonade rivals anything Starbucks has. This is one of my favorite bakeries to go to in FH and one of the only places I get my vegan desserts from. I always get their Earl Grey Tea with Soy milk, and one of their cookies (raspberry almond cookie is my fav!). They steam the milk so it's always frothy and so delicious. It comes in HUGE mugs so it's worth it, and the cookies are delicious. They take cash and credit, and there's a huge variety of drinks and food to eat. There's plenty of seats as well and wifi available for those who are on their laptops. read more

Passed by this place many many times so now that we've gone there, I know we will keep returning. Quiet, can enjoy a cup of something. So far, have tried iced Purple Jenny - a tad sweet for me; hot chocolate - can get it "not sweet" which I prefer but would like it richer; and hot mocha - I like the best so far. I normally get antsy just sitting but I find it cozy and relaxing here. Too bad Red Pipes closes early @7pm bec sometimes we want late-night coffee. Haven't tried but there are baked goods and sandwiches - labeled but no prices though. Restroom available. Would prefer to close the shade over the window in there completely esp when it's dark out. read more

Red Pipes Cafe is located in the heart of Forest Hills, Queens NYC with a selection of teas and coffees. As you entered the cafe, you are greeted by a warm and welcoming atmosphere. I so totally appreciate the diverse and colorful painting. The seats are comfortable and provide the perfect setting for relaxation or socializing. This time around I only ordered the cappuccino and absolutely enjoyed it. I also noticed one of the cafe's highlights is its many different assortment of pastries and small sandwiches. I definitely would like to explore more of this in the future. It's a great spot to catch up with friends, read a book or just relax and enjoy the peaceful and welcoming atmosphere. read more

Small cafe the highlights gluten free and vegan treat. The treats are quite yummy. Today's treat was a cookie from "sensible" and I got the chocolate milk cookie. This one wasn't that dry and had a nice flavor. My chai latte wasn't overly sweet. I sometimes come here to work. I love the art that is featured. Looks like some of them are available for purchase. Came here on a Saturday and it was quite lively. Luckily, there was some outlets open so we decided to sit and study here. The ambience is productive, as the music they play was motivating and up-beat. The setting also had artist's work and wifi is readily available. My friend ordered the iced coffee w oat and she enjoyed it. As for me, I ordered an iced oat latte, and it wasn't as strong; it felt a little too milky; however I appreciated the drink either way. I prefer something stronger. They have individual muffins packaged; we got the walnut and blueberry one. There is a restroom for customers. The service is very friendly, as they seem very happy to serve the regulars that come in. I guess it is a minus star as they can control the line flow better and the way people walk in and out as people ordered. Great little coffee shop on Austin Street. This was the closest to the vet in the morning. Clientele includes a lot of regulars and neighbors in Forest Hills. I would say half were on laptops working for a few hours. Tried the breakfast croissant sandwich and a iced americano here. Service was fast and friendly. A very charming cafe with warm service and rather lively music. I appreciate that their price is inclusive of tax so it was easy to pay in cash if you want to. They have a wide selection of pastries and sandwiches - most are pre-made. For $6, i got a gigantic mug of matcha latte. The matcha latte was good though I've definitely had better but the overall ambiance of the cafe is very enjoyable so I definitely recommend if you need a cute place to lounge for a bit. read more

Came here today with a friend to order a strawberry iced tea, a matcha, an Italian Ascan Sandwich, and an Austin Cheesesteak Sandwich. My friend said he didn't taste much strawberry flavor in his tea. I found that my matcha wasn't fully blended and I was drinking little clumps of it, which means that it wasn't prepared correctly and made with a pre-mix powder. For our sandwiches, there wasn't really a different between the two, they tasted the same in flavor despite one being an "Italian" and the other "cheesesteak" sandwich. They were made with the same toppings and dressing/sauce. The only difference between the two was the shape of the meat (Italian had round seitan meatballs, Cheesesteak had slabs of seitan). I would probably just stick to ordering coffee here, it has a nice atmosphere and service was nice, but food/teas could use improvement. read more

Great spot in Forest Hills. Tucked away on Austin Street, this is one of my go to spots for a weekend coffee. Usually get the regular coffee but mixed it up today with a mocha. My first time here even though I've walked by here dozens of times. It's a decent sized space but if it's busy here it can be a little tight. There were two tables outside as well but the weather wasn't permitting outside seating the day I went. Seating is available right away as you walk in with a couch set up and tables and then counter seating as well. More tables are in the back. You can either grab a table first and then go back up and order or vice versa. There was only one person working but she was very nice. Coffee, Tea and vegan stuff are on the menu here. From snacks to sandwich meals. I only had a coffee and a croissant but I will try more stuff next time. Everything looked fresh made. Nice to place to just relax or even catch up with a friend. Hole in the wall cafe. Very informal and prob family owned. Walked in and the barista was sitting at a table eating breakfast giving it a very homey/European feel. Terrible experience twice in this cafe where the staff is just not trained to be client facing. The employee had a lot of attitude, and was impatient, making several customers wait to take orders because she was overwhelmed with drink orders or not tag teaming with the other employee. I only got a brownie to go, but the brownies are at room temperature and hadn't been checked, so I'm eating it and discovered mold in the middle of the brownie (like spider webs inside). I went back and the young employee didn't even apologize. She just said "do you want something else?" I replied I just wanted my money back and politely recommended they check the other brownies. She had a "I'm so done with this" attitude and didn't acknowledge my recommendation, and just went back to her lattes, huffing. I won't be back to Red Pipes. It's too bad because I walk by it all the time, you just can't treat customers like that after a disgusting experience. Less than mediocre on the food. Ambience is nice. I had the avocado toasts $14 and it was close to horrible. Picture on the wall showed fresh avocadoes on the toast but in real life it was the liquidy pre-made in a tub kind that tasted sour and just plain bad. Didn't taste like avocados or have the texture of fresh avocados. For $14 it should have been fresh avocados used in on the toast. The bread for the toast itself was good but it was also slightly burnt or over toasted. The small side salad was decent with a sweet kimichi garnish. The Americano was just so so, not on par with Starbucks or other cafes in Forest Hills. This is a really cute cafe in Forest Hills that is perfect to stop in a fulfill the craving for caffeine, and you'll also find some great vegetarian food options. I really enjoy their oatmeal here a lot, which is what I ordered and shockingly forgot to take a picture of because I was starving. I did however manage to take a picture of the cortado I ordered, because it was so cute and delicious. I really never knew the difference between a flat white vs a cortado or macchiato vs a latte, etc but I'm slowly learning and I learned this weekend that a cortado is the perfect ratio of espresso to milk. I really enjoyed it and Red Pipe makes it really well. The ambiance is super cool and there is a very relaxed vibe here. K and I were looking for a nice cafe that served Oatly. Red Pipe Cafe had the oat milk for coffee. It was so delicious and smooth! The Latte tasted like a creamy rich amazing latte. The cortado was perfect! It is an expresso with equal parts warm milk. It was acidic enough and the Oat milk was smooth rich mouth-feel. I will be back for coffee! read more

I am honestly not one to write reviews in general, but I have had two extremely disappointing experiences at Red Pipes Cafe and thought it best to share. Earlier this week I ordered a mocha - it was so bitter that it might as well have been straight black coffee; not sure what was going on, but it was poorly made. Today was a whole slew of issues. Apparently all of the prices of the drinks went up LAST week, but nothing was changed on the display board? As previously mentioned, I also came earlier this week and the prices I paid were the same as what was showing on the board, so I was already confused by this - have the prices gone up, or have they not? And if they have, this should be updated globally so as to avoid this recurring issue. I had to repeat my order multiple times to the barista. Ultimately I still did not get what I ordered. The barista used chai in my latte, but I never said chai? I even told him not chai because he stated it, and he ended up using it anyway. He kept trying to explain the breakdown of the pricing because he kept saying different things, so I really wasn't sure what to believe and was incredulous about the fact that I still did not get the correct order. Super disappointing - I was hoping this could be my go-to spot in the neighborhood but after this week, I don't think it will be. read more
