But the whole thing stuck with me because there is absolutely a way to tell someone you are closed and still be decent about it. A simple "Hey, sorry, we are actually closed right now" goes a long way. That is not a hard bar to clear. I will be real, it took some restraint on both our parts to just walk out without saying anything back. My wife and I both wanted to address it right then and there, but we knew better. Some situations are not worth escalating, and that was one of them. Still, it is a reminder that how you treat people matters, even in small moments, even at the end of a shift, even when you are ready to close up and go home. People remember that kind of thing.
