We have lived here in Hercules for 15 years and we try to patronize the local businesses whenever we can, especially here in our small town. We really can't afford to drink Starbucks daily or even weekly, but we like to splurge a little around the holidays for those Starbucks holiday drinks. The main thing about "franchises" is that no matter which location you visit, the drink you order should taste the same at all the locations. A Peppermint Mocha, super hot, no whip should taste the same in San Francisco as well as Vallejo. No so with this Hercules location. After getting wrong drinks or bad drinks, I am finally writing a review. I am fed up with returning drinks or driving away with bad drinks. I have gotten peppermint mochas with NO peppermint. I have gotten Peppermint Hot chocolates with NO peppermint. I have ordered drinks super HOT with NO whip, only for it to arrive with whip. Then the barista just SCOOPS out the whip leaving my drink lukewarm instead of super HOT. The final straw came after church where me and the fam wanted a holiday drink before they're gone for the season. $18 for 3 ventis that tasted like WATER!!! They were HORRIBLE!! I can make a better cup of coffee at home! Why would I waste my hard earned money for garbage! Never again Starbucks of Hercules on San Pablo Ave. We are DONE!!! read more

WHIPPED CREAM CUP To cut calories, I replaced my frappuccino treats with espresso. However, I've found I don't enjoy a double espresso unless the cup is filled the rest of the way with whipped cream. So I'm pretty sure it's not a low-cal drink when served like this. But it's delicious. This Starbucks is much bigger than both of my regular locations. There was lots of seating available. It seemed very open and bright and it was clean. Service at the counter was fast and friendly. My drink had all the extra whipped cream that I had asked for. I am not sure if this Starbucks discriminate against me or the $100 bill I have. I forgot my wallet this afternoon on my way out because I was in a rush. The only money I had were $100 bills in by backpack and had no other small change. I decided to use that money instead of heading home for my wallet. After making my purchase for the Caramel Maccchiato, I handed the African American cashier the $100 bill. He was trying to authenticate it by looking it in every angles - up and down, side way to side way, through the light (because it was an older bill). He went back and consulted with another African American co-worker and came back, flatly told me that he doesn't have change. I asked him what was the problem? He again informed me that he doesn't have change. I offered him to give him a newer $100 bill if he worries about the bill being fake, but again said that he doesn't have the change. To me, for a Starbuck store this busy doesn't have change for $100 does not make sense to me. While I was in line waiting for my purchase, I can count the number of customers currently sitting in the store and the number of customers in line ahead of me. I am VERY positive that they have made AT LEAST $100 prior to me - enough to afford my $100 change. But they refused to do so. And they didn't have signs that said "We do not take any bill larger than $50 or $100" either. Luckily there is a Chase bank few steps down and was able to break the $100 bill without a problem. Not only Starbucks' action causes me to loose my patience, but I also created unnecessary burden for me to go to the bank. Time wasted! After breaking my $100 bill at Chase, I came back to purchase my Caramel Macchiato and I told him sarcastically that I hope he has change for the $20 bill. He replied, "Of course we do"! I told him I am glad that you do. I am not so sure this if Starbucks can be called a friendly neighborhood Starbucks any more! Probably will be my last visit here. read more

It seems like most of these employees have no sense of urgency. Watching them make drinks at a turtles pace and then stop to gossip while you're in a rush to not be late for work can ruin a perfectly good morning. Regular coffee is always burnt. Long lines are to be expected, but very non social staff and people who don't want to engage with the customers. They do get very busy, but at least have the business practice of getting connected with the guests getting coffee and contribute to their morning routine rather than start their day off poorly. Peet's coffee isn't as convenient, but they are always friendly, engaging and serve not burnt coffee. read more

My daughters and I stop here almost every morning. We order through the mobile app 10 mins before so our drinks can be ready. However, we always still have to wait an additional 10-15 minutes to get our drinks. Sometimes they aren't even made correctly. The mornings are busy and they don't seem to have enough people working. Hopefully they fix these issues. read more

This is the closest Starbucks to my home and I think they are pretty efficient. The line can get LONG if you go in the early AM but they seem to process orders efficiently and are friendly about it. My Baristas of Hercules, oh how I love thee :) This is my go-to Starbucks in my area - I get my coffee here at least 5x a week, study here (during school months) and my coffee is always on point. With my difficult order, it's always made right and they even throw in a shot or 2 here and there when they're seeing I'm having a rough morning or day. They don't stress off refills or charging me for every little effin thing. There is one particular older woman (she shall remain nameless) - I wish she had a better attitude or charge me for stuff she shouldn't charge me for -_- I am legit here ALL the time, I always pay the same exact amount (or it's cheaper or comped) but with her, I pay a grip. Why, woman, why?! Geez. She's like the Starbucks Nazi, tho... My favorite barista has to be Steph! :) something about the way she makes my coffee - always some kind of special touch. But Christian, Becks, Flor, Chrissy, Annie and Angelisa - I love all my Barista babies oh and I miss Serina, loved her too! I've seen people easily come and go though, but these folks are my faves. And they know me so well because I'm in here so much! hahaha. I've never had a Starbucks show me so much love and that says a lot for someone who's a coffee addict... Although I don't drink Starbucks as often as I used to, I will write this review based on previous experiences I've had. Back in 2009, a fellow organic chemistry classmate and I used to come in every Thursday to complete our assignments for the week and study for exams. Since then, I'd say customer service has slightly decreased and decor and set up have increased. I don't think there's a significant decline in customer service. However, I do think that they tend to be understaffed most mornings. It's pretty cliche, yet expected to see coffee shops very busy in the mornings, so the best advice is to give yourself an extra 20 minutes if coming here is part of your morning routine. I see the baristas work very hard, especially during high foot traffic hours, but it can get frustrating to see that two people who ordered after you end up getting their drinks before you. From my observations, hot drinks are the priority while anything blended gets the short end of the stick. Regardless, the baristas make the drinks well, and of all the 12 or so years I've been a patron here, I've never had to send a drink back. Very commendable if you ask me! read more

Ordered ahead on the Starbucks app because this location usually has a line. When I arrived there were a few people waiting in line for pick up so I wasn't sure if my drink was ready. They made my drink and had it behind the bar - I had to ask if there was a mobile order and then they have it to me. As much as it kills my soul to go to starbucks, it's the only place where I can study, get free wifi and get food/drinks. The parking here is okay- it's in a plaza next to kinders and extreme pizza and jack in the box. The place is big and bright enough for you to get your study on. Most starbucks are SOOOOO dark, but this place is perfect. The whole side is just windows and it's shaded so you're getting the brightness without the burn of the sun. The people behind the counter are super nice and I have in fact, never had burnt coffee at this particular starbucks.
