They make beautiful drinks that taste as good as they look. I'm usually an espresso-shot kind of person, but I decided to step outside my usual box and try the Voodoo. OMG. When my turn came up the barista was short tempered with me for not knowing what sizes the drink came in promptly when those options weren't displayed anywhere on the menu or table (note: what's shown on their menu is price for 8 oz hot and 16 oz iced, but not what the sizes are for hot). Then as she was making the drink, she had mine sitting at the counter for a good few minutes without calling my name because she was busy chatting it up with a customer, handing him a note, talking about travel plans, etc. When I asked where my drink was and that I had been waiting for a while the other barista proceeded to say that they've just been busy. No, barista making my drink was just not serving each customer kindly and equally. I've come here for years and have had good experiences, but based on my last visit, I'd come back for the quality coffee but not with a high expectation for the service and if I had a lot of time between grabbing coffee and the next thing - I was here for over 20 mins before I got my drink

We love the ambiance, the genuinely wonderful staff, and how much care and pride they put into their drinks. You can see it thru their consistency is always creating the perfect cup everytime. One of my favorite things about this place is how well balanced the drinks are. I'm especially picky about iced mochas. I want to actually taste the espresso and chocolate, not something overly sweet or artificially flavored syrup and they get it right every time. Their mocha is rich and chocolatey without tasting like syrup, and the sweetness complements the coffee instead of overpowering it. It's exactly what I want in a morning coffee. They also have delicious meaty tamales sometimes which is such an unexpected and charming addition for a coffee shop, especially alongside Miss Miggins British pasties. Those little touches are part of what makes this place feel so unique. Between the atmosphere, the staff, the pastries, and consistently great coffee this is genuinely what we look forward to as a treat.

The coffee presentation was also beautiful, and I had no complaints about that. But then I saw "Espresso Market Price" on the menu. I'm sorry, but what exactly are we tracking here, the coffee market? I understand market price at a seafood restaurant when you are ordering fresh fish, but for a single shot of espresso, that was a first for me. I ended up paying $5.50 for one single shot of espresso, and the latte was also $5.50. On top of that, I waited about 14 minutes for the espresso and latte. For two coffee drinks, that felt like a long wait. The croissants and some of the other pastries also did not look as fresh as I expected. The atmosphere is great, the presentation is impressive, and the concept is definitely cool. But when I pay $5.50 for a single espresso and have to wait 14 minutes, I expect the overall experience to match the price.

Told my husband that they are the expensive version of Starbucks lol. Located in The Pruneyards shopping center with enough parking on a Saturday. It is spacious with lots of tables and chairs. Most of the people there are on their laptops possibly working or doing whatever they are doing. When we got there on a Saturday morning, line was short with possibly 3 parties ahead of us. Hubby lined up while I looked for a table. As hubby had said on his review, we like our breakfast hot/warm and not served on disposable plates and cups - which is aesthetically pleasing. They serve mostly cold drinks and some hot drinks. We really wanted to try their flight experience but it was only served iced so no thanks! For this visit we ordered the following: - White coffee for hubby - was ok - Pork Pate Chaud - Pate & Pork Roll Banh Mi - tasted good but seems commercialized and small - Phin Classic Croffle was "supposedly" ordered but we got the fruit & cream croffle instead - it was good actually - Egg Cream coffee (hot) for me - definitely didn't like it. I had tried egg cream coffee in other cafes, this one wasn't good at all. Had to switch with hubby's drink The girl on the counter had difficulty understanding our order, miscommunication thus receiving incorrect orders instead. So, will not come back to this place nor recommend. Sorry! October 2026

Perched at the top next to the honey jar is a chocolate yellow honeycomb, a perfect touch to this artful cake. The cake was an absolute hit with guests, and a perfect centerpiece. Then it came time to cut the cake... which felt so wrong but also so so right. The cake cut smoothly and was impeccably moist. Inside was a chocolate cake with a chocolate mousse filling. It was as lovely and delicious on the inside as it appeared on the outside. Infinity out of 10, can't recommend Marvel Cake enough! I am genuinely disappointed by my coffee almost every time I visit. If it's really bad to the point that I can't drink it, I'll ask for a remake, but a lot of the time I don't have the extra time to wait for them to make another one. It's incredibly frustrating because I can go to the Los Gatos, Willow Glen, or Castro Valley locations and consistently get a great coffee. It doesn't seem to matter what I order or whether it's something from the regular menu or a seasonal drink, the quality at this location just isn't there. What makes it even more frustrating is that this is the Philz location closest to my house, so I genuinely want to be able to enjoy it. I don't know if it's an issue with training, consistency, or something else, but I really hope management looks into it because something clearly isn't working. I was actually talking to a friend who used to love Philz as much as I do, and she said she doesn't enjoy it anymore either. Then we realized that whenever she gets Philz in the East Bay, it's noticeably better. I really hope this location can get back to the quality Philz is known for because I would love nothing more than to be able to regularly get good coffee from the location right by my house. I'm honestly sorry to have to leave such a negative review because I really do love Philz, but at this point, someone needs to say something. Then today was really the final straw. The coffee was so bad that neither of us could drink it, so I called the store and asked for a refund. I had just spent $15 on two cups of coffee that we were ultimately going to throw away, so I didn't think it was unreasonable to ask for a refund. Instead, I was only refunded for one of the two coffees and when I called back nobody answered.
