Stars is a traditional family style diner with a huge menu. Breakfast all day, hot and cold sandwiches, lots of dinner plates, and a variety of cakes and pies for dessert. It's a great choice for when people in your group or family all want different things. It's like a Denny's but with better food and no drug addicts hanging around. Service during our visit started off really good but then declined. Our waitress seemed to hate us by the end of the meal, when she slapped the check down on the table and didn't clear off any of our plates. I don't think we did anything to offend her; maybe she was having a bad day. On the way out we spoke to the manager, who agreed that she was "probably sick". Hello!! One of the few things we miss about moving back to the Bay Area from Mendocino County (the other is Ardella's Cafe in Willits) - we still try to go there any time we're back visiting. It's good, solid, fresh, tasty food - none of that rubbery cheap coffee shop stuff. Breakfast is always available and I always have the Express Breakfast (eggs, English muffin, fruit). The fruit is the real thing - huge slices of melon and citrus. Every other thing we've tried when the family goes there has been excellent, as well. Stopped in for breakfast this morning. Took waitress 18 minutes to even acknowledge us even though restaurant was over half empty. We got our coffee and water shortly thereafter - and then NOTHING. 30 minutes later she brings us a saucer with 4 jellies on it and says our food will be "right up". 15 more minutes and still NO FOOD. We gave up, threw $5 down for the coffee and left. It should NOT take an hour at a coffee shop for pancakes and eggs. Our server was more interested in talking at tables than serving her customers. Solid dinerfood. Nothing special food-wise, but the celebratory tropical-umbrellas on everything and super friendly service make it a worthwhile eatery to pop into if you are in the area. This is run by the same family that has restaurants in Sonoma Co (where I'm originally from). They may have locations in other counties as well. This Stars has a more extensive menu. My husband & I usually go out for breakfast. Sometimes we take something to go for the next night's dinner. We have our favorites, but, are open to trying, most things. We've been very pleased with all that we've had so far. Flavor, portion size & price. We eat there a few times a month. A place where, everyone knows your name. As it were :) One of the main reasons, we go to any restaurant, is the service. That has always been excellent there. The server, we've had the most contact with, is Yvette. Two things we look for are, being personable & attentive. She is five stars in both. She makes you feel welcome & comfortable. It's like eating in the home of a good friend. The general atmosphere is that way. We've been there at both quieter times & very busy. We've never had an issue. I feel that, Yvette & the rest of the staff go out of their way to be accommodating. I don't understand the negative reviews. I feel, like with anything, you get as good as you give. Treating others with kindness & acceptance goes a long way. We've always received that there. The manager asked my sister who has tattoos and piercings if she was high when she attempted to complain her bread was soggy making her burger inedible. She wasnt. The manager harassed her until she cried, saying she was high and they were calling the police to have her arrested. When she tried to leave the restaurant (no she, and her party did not pay after this treatment) they photographed her without her consent, threatening her again, with phone calls to the police. read more

Yes, I'm a fan of Stars. Even more so now that they changed their menu again and added a couple of vegetarian pages to their already extensive menu. I enjoy their salads and in particular the taco salad. I do miss the great chicken I used to get on my salads there not to mention the bacon and such on the cobb salad, so I won't mention it lol, but it is very difficult to find vegetarian bacon :). Not vegan (yet) so the omelets are still on the menu for me and they are very good here. I enjoy the salsa they bring on the side for the taco salad, but make sure I ask for an extra cup or two of it because one is not enough. I've also noticed that the salsa has to be made right there because it is always just a bit different. Never in a bad way though. 5 stars for stars then. read more

Food is too expensive for how unflavorful it is. I had to add a lot of salt just to get any kind of flavor on my breakfast skillet. Some items frozen on menu (avocado eggrolls). Cant say enough about how great Stars treated us. Our Cross Country team had traveled to Ukiah for an overnight and just competed at the local Invitational Meet. We needed a place that could accommodate 50 people. They have a nice large banquet room in the back. They got menus and water to us quickly, put up with 50 high school kids (they were well behaved, but come on, 50 high school kids in a room is never quiet and easy). The took everyone's orders in a very reasonable time and and to my knowledge didn't get one order wrong. The food came out about as quickly as any restaurant could get it out. The food is like a nice diner. Breakfast, salads, appetizers, burgers, pasta, vegetarian options, there was something for everyone. The portions were very generous and the food was good and tasty and well prepared. I mean we were on the road and hungry, but no one came away disappointed. My fellow coach loved the steak Sandwich, another coach was sick and had soup and sandwich which hit the spot for her. After our meal, they let us stay in the room and use it for a post race debriefing and team bonding, offered all the coaches complementary coffee. I just can say enough about how friendly and well they treated us. The food was great diner type food, the servings were large, the facilities clean. This is the only good local restaurant restaurant serving American food in Ukiah. It is clean, has great service, an amazing variety of food to choose from and affordable prices. My boyfriend and I have been coming here for years and have watched as they redecorated a few years ago and continue to update their menu to reflect the tastes of local customers. In the last year, they have added more vegetarian and vegan dishes, a full page of delicious options! My veggie favorites are the grilled vegetable sandwich and the pesto eggplant sandwich. Stars has no problem doing substitutions if you want a vegetarian dish from their menu gluten free or vegan. Overall, this is just a great place to eat, with a relaxed, inviting atmosphere, an awesome staff and wonderful food. read more

What a pleasant surprise to have such delicious breakfast food at Stars. We opted for the fresh-squeezed orange juice to start and it was very very good. I ordered the vegetable/egg skillet that came lightly salted with many vegetables, and, it was an ample portion. Husband had the breakfast burrito which was large and stuffed with a variety of fresh ingredients, plus salsa and pieces of fruit on the side. We have been coming to this restaurant for about 8 years. Our Grandson loved it when he was only 2, and so we have kept up coming, even though we live in Hidden Valley, a hour drive away. I used to get the steak sandwich, delicious, I have now moved on to Thai Lettuce wraps, muy delicious. They give you 5 huge lettuce wraps filled with wonderful flavors.
