This place is the epitome of a pub. They had quite a selection of beer and booze. Better than that is their menu which included seafood dishes, as well as excellent sandwiches. I tried the French dip and it was delicious. The au jus added the perfect amount of flavor. The salad that accompanied it per my request was also delicious. You can also choose to have fries instead- with multiple choices (garlic, truffle and more). I enjoyed a bloody Mary, which was made from scratch. The restroom is clean and unisex, and the decor is fun. I sat at the bar, but they do have an outdoor patio with a ton of seats. The staff is friendly and welcoming. read more

Great old school bar. I had my dog he wasn't allowed inside but allowed in the outdoor seating area. It had several tables with wood chips on the ground and a small stage for live music but when I went there was a tv playing. I went for a late lunch and they had lunch specials before 3pm. So I ordered their smash cheeseburger which came with a pickle slices, a side of tater tots and special sauce. The cheeseburger burger was basic and the patty was a little. But it was tasty. The tater tots were a decent portion, crunchy and fluffy. I also ordered a cup of their tomato bisque which was creamy and with flavorful tomato chunks. They try to be an Irish or British pub but it didn't really remind any of us as that. It seemed more like a cool bar. The hostess seemed completely stressed out like this was the first time they ever saw a crowd. That may have been the case but it stressing everyone else too. Unfortunately, I don't remember the servers name. She was really nice and helpful. She was the bright part of the experience. Three of the party of four felt the food was just okay. I had the blacked fish over a salad. I thought that was a weird combination. Either the menu wasn't clear or I just didn't read it well enough. The real issue was the flavor of the fish. It had a strong metallic/tinny space. It wasn't spoiled but also didn't seem to be the freshest. It is possible that it was the process or seasoning for the blackening. I love a good bar and would go back for drinks but may find another place for dinner. read more

We ended a really lovely Sunday in Mendocino looking for somewhere to have dinner. There were six of us, everyone was in a great mood after a wonderful weekend, and Patterson's was one of the only options available, so we decided to give it a try. We were seated outside, which was lovely, and the atmosphere itself was great. Unfortunately, the service completely changed the tone of the entire evening. Our waitress came to the table seeming angry, exhausted, and visibly irritated from the beginning. She was abrupt, unfriendly, and honestly couldn't even seem to fake being pleasant. We went out of our way to be kind, patient, and upbeat with her, hoping maybe her demeanor would soften, but it never did. Instead, the energy she brought to the table was so negative that by the end of dinner, our happy group was tired, uncomfortable, and ready to go home. It is amazing how one person's attitude can completely change an evening. We ordered a full meal, and the bill came to around $300. After such poor service, we certainly would not have chosen to leave a 20% tip--only to discover that a 20% gratuity had been automatically added because we were a larger party. I understand automatic gratuities for large groups, but it is incredibly frustrating to be required to leave 20% on a roughly $300 bill for service that was genuinely unpleasant. I've never been particularly excited about eating at Patterson's, but after this experience, I won't be returning. Mendocino is a hospitality town, and being made to feel like an inconvenience for simply coming in for dinner is not an experience I care to repeat. read more

We were looking for a new lunch place in Mendocino and some locals had suggested Patterson's Pub. We came by in the early afternoon and most tables were filled, but their large outside area was mostly available - even better. Our server was super friendly, offering helpful suggestions and making everything enjoyable. I had their classic half pound burger with cheese, made from Angus beef. My wife was excited about the fish and chips - they offered haddock as an option, instead of the usual cod. She has been spoiled by London's haddock-based fish and chips , and ever since has trouble getting enthused about cod fish and chips. When asked, two different servers heartily agreed haddock was their favorite. The meal was very good. My wife was well satisfied with her haddock and fries, and my hamburger definitely hit the spot. Dog friendly people friendly pub with great outdoor seating, friendly staff and the neighborhood skunk , Pepe, searching for table scraps lol. Excellent pour of Guinness too! Had the scrumptious special lobster won tons, superb fish and chips- with haddock- amazing, and the crab cake special over Cesar salad- some of the best crab cakes we have eaten- no filler, just crab and seasoning. This place was so good, we had dinner here twice during our 4 day stay in Mendocino! They have seating outside on a large patio (with heaters) and in the smaller inside area next to the bar. The decor is eclectic, which many interesting things displayed everywhere. On our first visit, we started with a bowl of New England Clam Chowder ($13). This was great! It was thick with clams and even passed my "spoon test", which is being able to support the spoon standing vertically in the soup without falling over. It passed the test due to the thick soup with lots of clams. (See photo). We each had the Chicken Pot Pie ($22) from the daily special menu. This was delicious and thick and topped by a puff-pastry like thick topping. They also make Irish Coffee ($11) that was perfect. Just as good as the Buena Vista Bar in San Francisco (where this cocktail was invented). On our second visit, two nights later, my wife had a French Dip sandwich with sweet potato french fries ($22). She found it enjoyable and very good. I had a Patty Melt ($22) which was delicious. They make an espresso martini ($14) that is delicious! On both visits, the service was quick and friendly. I can't believe I forgot to post a review from our summer trip to Mendocino. I could have easily eaten here more than once. Patterson's definitely delivers on the classic pub feel on the inside with a large outdoor seating area. We sat in the beer garden and watch the World Cup. Always Trust the Gift Shop Lady. Always. We had just conquered the Point Cabrillo Lighthouse--which apparently requires climbing three flights of "not-quite-normal" stairs. After a morning canoe down the Big River and those stairs, we turned into ravenously hungry people. We asked the gift shop lady for food recommendations. Without skipping a beat, she said: "Patterson's Pub! If you get there before 2:00 PM, you can get brunch!" Challenge accepted. We took our appetites straight to Mendocino's main drag. They had a tented patio in the sunny-but-stubbornly-windy Mendocino air, but we opted for the interior. Good choice. It has the ultimate "Authentic Irish Pub" starter pack: Cool and dark? Check. Crisp draft beers? Check. Full bar? Check. The SF Giants game playing on multiple screens? Check and check. We successfully beat the 2:00 PM brunch buzzer, and the specials menu looked to good to pass up! Lobster Wontons (Pub Special): Gone in a literal flash. Blink and you missed them. Crabcakes Benedict (Pub Special): Hands down, the best this diner has ever had. The hollandaise sauce (which they kindly served on the side per request) was a lemony deliciousness! The Comfort Food Crew: The rest of the party ordered clam chowder (Boston), garlic bread, and a fried cod sammy with thin-cut fries. All around lip-smacking! The Liquid Refreshment: Paired it all with a half-pint of Scrimshaw Pilsner (shoutout to local Fort Bragg brewing). It hit the spot and paired perfectly with the crabcakes benedict! The "Too Spicy" Drama: We did hit one minor speed bump. One of the dishes turned out to be a bit too spicy for one of our sensitive diners (not me). The waitstaff deserve a medal here. They went out of their way to try and "de-spice" the meal. While my companion's tastebuds were past the point of return, the staff's effort and sweetness were noticed and much appreciated! . Excellent customer service. The Verdict: A wonderful, perfect meal for a weekend getaway in the Mendocino/Fort Bragg area. We will absolutely be back. Stopped in two days ago to start our day with a Bloody Mary for me and a mimosa for my wife. The Bloody Mary was hand made from scratch in front of us. It was delicious! For the mimosa, they give you fresh orange juice, and a bottle of champagne. So you get a little bit more than one glass of mimosa. We always stop into Patterson's pub while we're in town, for a drink and/or a meal. Last night we stopped in for dinner. It was very busy. It was about a 15-20 minute wait. But we were able to sit out back by a fire pit and order a drink while we waited. Got to meet some other folks passing through the area. Good conversation. For dinner I ordered the turkey burger with tater tots. It was perfect. Perfectly cooked with fresh lettuce, tomato onions, etc. Even the roll was perfect. My wife is a vegetarian and got the patty melt with the black bean garden burger. She got steak fries as her side. She was also very happy with her meal. The ambience here is pure Irish pub. Very friendly staff and clientele. If you're passing through the area, definitely recommend taking a break at Patterson's pub for a drink and or a meal. read more

Visited Patterson's Pub at the end of January and had a blast. It was very busy on a Saturday afternoon but we were able to get seated right away. The atmosphere was nice as everyone had smiles all around. We started off with some Irish Coffees which was a nice way to begin our meal. Next, we shared a cup of clam chowder as we didn't want to ruin our appetite. Their clam chowder had my girlfriend and I in complete shock as it was that GOOD! She said I was more excited about the food than when she said yes to me asking her out! We finished off with ordering an IPA to have with our Fish&Chips. This was honestly the best fish and chips I've had. The tartar sauce was so flavorful and paired well with the fish, our server even gave me extra as I devoured the one that was meant to be shared haha. Great spot in Mendocino! One of the few places that are open late, so it was well appreciated to have a nice and cozy spot open. Came here with a group of 6, and we ordered a bunch of apps to share. I loved the jalapeno poppers and the coconut shrimp--poppers were absolutely stuffed with cheesey goodness, and I liked the fragrant coconut flavor from the crispy breaded shrimp. I rarely write reviews, but felt compelled to after our recent experience at Patterson's Pub. We have been going there for many years. The food and service has always been exceptional. However, our server, John changed our opinion. He was the rudest employee I have ever encountered. Unfortunately, he was also responsible for making our drinks. He used the wrong ingredients and they didn't taste good. When we attempted to ask him about it, he insisted he had done nothing wrong and did not offer to remedy the situation. We had quick service on a Sunday night. This place is 21+ order, but you can order to-go if you brought kids. Dogs welcome. Their patio is VERY dog friendly, with water bowls! They did warn us that at night skunks may come out and that it is usually not a problem because they just want French fries. We did not end up seeing any.
