This place was so good, we had dinner here twice during our 4 day stay in Mendocino! They have seating outside on a large patio (with heaters) and in the smaller inside area next to the bar. The decor is eclectic, which many interesting things displayed everywhere. On our first visit, we started with a bowl of New England Clam Chowder ($13). This was great! It was thick with clams and even passed my "spoon test", which is being able to support the spoon standing vertically in the soup without falling over. It passed the test due to the thick soup with lots of clams. (See photo). We each had the Chicken Pot Pie ($22) from the daily special menu. This was delicious and thick and topped by a puff-pastry like thick topping. They also make Irish Coffee ($11) that was perfect. Just as good as the Buena Vista Bar in San Francisco (where this cocktail was invented). On our second visit, two nights later, my wife had a French Dip sandwich with sweet potato french fries ($22). She found it enjoyable and very good. I had a Patty Melt ($22) which was delicious. They make an espresso martini ($14) that is delicious! On both visits, the service was quick and friendly. Always Trust the Gift Shop Lady. Always. We had just conquered the Point Cabrillo Lighthouse--which apparently requires climbing three flights of "not-quite-normal" stairs. After a morning canoe down the Big River and those stairs, we turned into ravenously hungry people. We asked the gift shop lady for food recommendations. Without skipping a beat, she said: "Patterson's Pub! If you get there before 2:00 PM, you can get brunch!" Challenge accepted. We took our appetites straight to Mendocino's main drag. They had a tented patio in the sunny-but-stubbornly-windy Mendocino air, but we opted for the interior. Good choice. It has the ultimate "Authentic Irish Pub" starter pack: Cool and dark? Check. Crisp draft beers? Check. Full bar? Check. The SF Giants game playing on multiple screens? Check and check. We successfully beat the 2:00 PM brunch buzzer, and the specials menu looked to good to pass up! Lobster Wontons (Pub Special): Gone in a literal flash. Blink and you missed them. Crabcakes Benedict (Pub Special): Hands down, the best this diner has ever had. The hollandaise sauce (which they kindly served on the side per request) was a lemony deliciousness! The Comfort Food Crew: The rest of the party ordered clam chowder (Boston), garlic bread, and a fried cod sammy with thin-cut fries. All around lip-smacking! The Liquid Refreshment: Paired it all with a half-pint of Scrimshaw Pilsner (shoutout to local Fort Bragg brewing). It hit the spot and paired perfectly with the crabcakes benedict! The "Too Spicy" Drama: We did hit one minor speed bump. One of the dishes turned out to be a bit too spicy for one of our sensitive diners (not me). The waitstaff deserve a medal here. They went out of their way to try and "de-spice" the meal. While my companion's tastebuds were past the point of return, the staff's effort and sweetness were noticed and much appreciated! . Excellent customer service. The Verdict: A wonderful, perfect meal for a weekend getaway in the Mendocino/Fort Bragg area. We will absolutely be back. Stopped in two days ago to start our day with a Bloody Mary for me and a mimosa for my wife. The Bloody Mary was hand made from scratch in front of us. It was delicious! For the mimosa, they give you fresh orange juice, and a bottle of champagne. So you get a little bit more than one glass of mimosa. We always stop into Patterson's pub while we're in town, for a drink and/or a meal. Last night we stopped in for dinner. It was very busy. It was about a 15-20 minute wait. But we were able to sit out back by a fire pit and order a drink while we waited. Got to meet some other folks passing through the area. Good conversation. For dinner I ordered the turkey burger with tater tots. It was perfect. Perfectly cooked with fresh lettuce, tomato onions, etc. Even the roll was perfect. My wife is a vegetarian and got the patty melt with the black bean garden burger. She got steak fries as her side. She was also very happy with her meal. The ambience here is pure Irish pub. Visited Patterson's Pub at the end of January and had a blast. It was very busy on a Saturday afternoon but we were able to get seated right away. The atmosphere was nice as everyone had smiles all around. We started off with some Irish Coffees which was a nice way to begin our meal. Next, we shared a cup of clam chowder as we didn't want to ruin our appetite. Their clam chowder had my girlfriend and I in complete shock as it was that GOOD! She said I was more excited about the food than when she said yes to me asking her out! We finished off with ordering an IPA to have with our Fish&Chips. This was honestly the best fish and chips I've had. The tartar sauce was so flavorful and paired well with the fish, our server even gave me extra as I devoured the one that was meant to be shared haha. Great spot in Mendocino! One of the few places that are open late, so it was well appreciated to have a nice and cozy spot open. Came here with a group of 6, and we ordered a bunch of apps to share. I loved the jalapeno poppers and the coconut shrimp--poppers were absolutely stuffed with cheesey goodness, and I liked the fragrant coconut flavor from the crispy breaded shrimp. We had the haddock fish and chips. They were amazing. The tartar sauce was fresh and nicely seasoned. I hate when I get fish and chips and the fish tastes frozen and is mushy. This is one of the only places open late in Mendocino so we decided to give it a try while in town! The vibe inside was so quaint and warm, with cute Christmas and Irish decorations. Our waitress was so helpful with answering questions about the menu and offering recommendations. I decided to try the bison burger and was impressed with the meaty flavor and huge portion size. The service was amazing--all of the waitresses we interacted with were friendly and checked in on us constantly. I got the wrap which was something I was eyeballing since I looked at their website. It had so many textures which made every bite a new experience. Not at all dry because of the dressing (I chose ranch but there's a variety to choose from) and avocado. My friend got the burger. They did have to add some sauces to avoid it being super dry. I tried a bite and it had this smokiness that made it very pleasant. I agree that the extra mustard and ketchup we put on it was needed. Center of Mendocino, easy parking. Typical pub food. Place is clean, large menu: there's something on it for everyone. Outdoor seating area is huge with 2 TVs (World Cup was on while we were there) and is very dog friendly...even though we didn't have ours with us, it was a plus. We had quick service on a Sunday night. This place is 21+ order, but you can order to-go if you brought kids. Dogs welcome. Their patio is VERY dog friendly, with water bowls! They did warn us that at night skunks may come out and that it is usually not a problem because they just want French fries. We did not end up seeing any. Came here on a monday night and the line was out the door! It seemed that this was one of the only restaurants open in the area this night, but it was still a great experience with solid food. We ordered a bowl of clam chowder, the chicken pot pie, and the crab cakes with a caesar salad. All in all, every dish was great with the clam chowder and pot pie as standouts! I came to Patterson's twice while staying nearby. What a cool little pub! They get packed so be willing to wait or sit outside. I would try for inside to get the full vibe of the place. A solid 3.5 only because my lobster sandwich special tasted a bit strange - it definitely had some imitation crab in there that wasn't advertised. Other than that the house salad was delicious and my friends enjoyed their orders. This included the cod, mussels/clams and pear salad & crispy truffle fries. All were delicious. Service was good. We sat in the covered patio. Clam chowder was flavorful and not watery. Had good chunks of clams. Onion rings were well battered and crispy. Did not fall apart on first bite! Fish was also nicely battered and had a nice crunch not heavily battered. Was delicious. Would have to ding this place for the 3.5% surcharge for credit card use. We decided to pay in cash and waitress came back to tell us we short changed her! After we explained that we took off the 3.5 credit charge surcharge, she said "oh my register wouldn't take this off" but she agreed that it was correct! Our waitress was very nice and pleasant. Had a great time here 6 years ago with great service and food, but unfortunately they do not allow children. Dogs are okay, but not children. Was able to visit this place as a married couple, but not able come back when we became a family of 3. Unfortunate policy not even able to eat on the outside of the restaurant as a family away from the bar. They only offered take out as an option and not allowed to eat outside the restaurant. This place was recommended to us by the guy that checked us in at our hotel. He recommended the fish and chips. We went there for lunch and we were completely disappointed. The fish from the fish and chips seemed to be from a box. I ordered the warm spinach salad ($18) with chicken (extra $10) and the chicken seemed to be from a frozen bag from Costco.
