We started a tradition during the Great 'Rona of Aught-20 of taking all the Thanksgiving fixings out to the California Redwoods and having our Turkey in the Trees. Since no one was inviting anyone over out of Covid-Crazy-Creepy-Crawly fear, this made a lot of sense at the time. If you've never cooked a turkey on a Weber Kettle... well, you're letting the best in life pass you by. Now, our tradition has changed to going camping for the days leading up to Thanksgiving, and heading home for the big day. Nice to see family and friends, but we still enjoy that cool NorCal vibe in the forest. This past year, we tried a new spot just north of Boonville, CA, which put is pretty close to Ft. Bragg. On one of the days we were in the area, we ventured into town for a nice meal. We found Los Gallitos by chance, looking for a spot to part my truck. This was a nice little Mexican restaurant, and had all the markings of a family business. In short-- delicious food. Sometimes these small town spots can be hit or miss; this place was definitely great. The carne asada was better than the chicken, but I always think that. My youngest got a Shrimp and Pulpo cocktail that was amazing. My cheese enchiladas and Chile relleno were off the hook delicious, too. Not sure when our travels will take us back to Fort Bragg, but we will definitely stop back in here again to see our new friends. read more

It is a very nice vibe and feels authentic like I am in Mexico. The waiters were very nice and got everything right and I am very glad me a my dad went here to eat. Today I ordered a Margarita which was awesome & a crispy steak taco The taco was terrible and a very big disappointment It was visually awful,the tortilla was very over cooked and all the stuff inside was just a mess and salsa all over the outside of the tortilla and the steak was burnt to a crisp. I only took a bite & the whole tortilla feel apart in my hands . Just didn't finish it after 1 bite. Worst Mexican food I've eve had. Ordered steak burrito and menu for take out. Sunday afternoon and this place was crackin'. A few people were ahead of me trying to figure where to order food to go. No sign anywhere and no other staff to help us. I was lucky I got menudo. Apparently they only had enough left for 1 order. Burrito was bad. steak meat was bland and not cooked well. Lots of beans, no rice, lettuce and bad salsa. Free chips and salsa. Chips were good but that salsa was disgusting. Bland, no other spicies, egg roll dip consistency. Stopped here for dinner while in Fort Bragg on vacation and happy we did! This is a cozy restaurant and staff are all friendly and welcoming. They served us complimentary chips and salsa! The house margaritas were delicious and got a great price too! We also got a mango agua fresca, classic and so refreshing. We ordered crispy chicken tacos, chicken quesadilla and fish tacos. All the food was good, but I think the crispy chicken tacos were the best. We definitely needed hot sauce to spice up our dishes a bit haha, but pretty happy with the meal :) read more

Love the chile relleno and atmosphere so much. Great for kids too. Beans and rice are delicious and the margs too of course.

Staff were friendly. They were very busy and seemed to be struggling. Our server seemed a little lost and everything took a long time. The carne asada had no flavor and tasted like cheap beef (which it usually is but marination omits that off putting taste). This place seems to be loved by locals. The drink menu had some nice options and fair prices for top shelf liquor but the menus themselves were filthy, greasy and had old food stuck to them. I wouldn't return. read more

Went on a Sunday for lunch (most, if not all, the other Mexican places were closed that day). Very disappointed in the food quality. Nothing was bad, but nothing was good. The enchiladas and torta were just bland - chicken was unseasoned in both. The chips and salsa were also not good. The salsa was watery and flavorless, and the chips were thick and hard and lacking salt. Service was alright, and the inside of the restaurant was clean and cutely decorated. Came here on a Sunday night and it wasn't busy. Our waitress was really sweet as well! We ordered 2 agua frescas: the watermelon and jamaica. Both were perfectly sweet and refreshing and tasted great with the chips and salsa. For our entrees, we got tacos, chille relleno, a chicken flauta, and a carne asada sope. Everything was super fresh and tasted delicious. The flavors blended really well together and the sauces were perfectly blended. Took more than half an hour just to get in and then 10 more minutes to get a menu.. and we weren't the only party experiencing this neither unfortunately. Service was clearly walking past our tables too, noticing us awkwardly sitting without a menu. Even another group just got up and grabbed the menu themselves before a waitress finally came by and noticed. Once we finally got the menu and ordered, food came out reasonably quick and quality-wise, this was the only plus coming out of this restaurant and it was good. Meat was well cooked and seasoned, burritos and nachos were great. Price for this place was also pretty reasonable to slightly cheaper than usual too so that was a plus. Like I mentioned earlier, maybe it was just an off day or something but that bad service was unfortunately bad enough that I probably won't be back in a while. For the wait too and the food served, unfortunately I wouldn't wait that long for that neither. However, if you come by at an off hour or when crowds aren't bad, maybe you might be able to enjoy the food they have to offer. Came in for dinner. It was a busy restaurant but we were seated quite quickly for a group of 6 which was nice. It then took a bit to even get chips or drinks. When the waitress finally came she didn't really know what the specials were when we asked about them which was a little disappointing. She did tell us portions were small so if we wanted to order sides. The tacos were filled and tasty. The chimichanga was a good side and big but needed some flavor. I actually like this place, normally, however I went last night and it was standing room only, stood at the door with other customers at least 15 minutes before someone standing with us decided to go to the counter and ask about seating. She came back and said they took her name at the counter. Finally someone came over and started to take names and how many in the party. I get the wait, it's a holiday weekend on a Friday night. We waited another 10 minutes to be seated, we only had a party of three. After being seated we waited another 15 minutes before anyone asked us if we wanted anything to drink. 15 minutes later he brought drinks, chips and salsa. He took, our order, I also had an order to go, which he said he said he put in when appropriate. Another 20 minutes food came out, the order wasn't exactly right, but we figured we could remove the items off the food we asked not to be on the plate. No one ever came back to check if we needed any thing else, drinks, chips, salsa water, nothing. Finally I asked for a to-go box from the bus-person. Another 15 minutes the waiter came by and said he was going to put in the to-go order and I was like OMG we are going to be here another 20 minutes. I ordered a tostada I ordered for my daughter to-go was horrible. It had no tomatoes, no sour cream, it was beans and lettuce with ranch dressing on it, yuck. This restaurant serves classic Mexican food such as tacos, burritos, and plates. There are some seafood items such as shrimp quesadillas and shrimp cocktail. The drinks are also pretty cheap with a margarita being around $7. But vegetarians beware - even though the veggie burrito says that it's vegetarian, we asked the server and apparently the rice is cooked with chicken stock, and the beans are cooked with lard. They also didn't have black beans as substitute. Hence this really limits what you can eat here unfortunately :( read more

What a cool place to have Mexican dinner when in town. Staff here is so warm, jolly, and helpful. They help you explain everything in detail. Service is pretty quick. They offer free nachos and salsa. we ordered tacos and wet burrito. Their wet burrito is something to definitely try if you are visiting them. They have 'fortaleza' tequila. What an adorable restaurant. So much Mexican tradition in the place. It was welcoming we got there at 11 when they opened and when we left that Place, it had a line waiting for people to come in. Together Unfortunately we didn't try any of the drinks, but the food was amazing. My husband had a breakfast burrito and said it was the best burrito he's had we live about 2 1/2 hours away from Fort Bragg, but considering driving back just to go have breakfast at Los Gallitos again. Found this place for lunch. Food was about as bad but lied to me about payment options. I asked if there was a difference between cash and credit card payment(in terms of fees), and they told me no difference. I paid with CC and charged an addiotnal 5%. Also it is against bank polices to pass the fees to the customer. Businesses know they can get away with this. Absolute bullshit. Liars and bad for business. Do not come here. This was the worst Mexican food I have EVER had. I'm a native Californian and have had excellent Mexican food and also mediocre. But this was the worst in my memory. I would not have known it was supposed to be a chili relleno if I hadn't ordered it. The sauce was a strange orange color, thick rubbery coating The chicken enchilada was dry and tasteless. Salad? They threw some green leafy things on the plate. The service was horrible! We ordered 3 margaritas and a beer. We were told that the bartender was in training so it would be a while - our drinks came when our meals were finished! First time we passed this restaurant, we thought it looked cool and said next time we're in town we should eat here. A month later here we are! I ordered two tacos and a chile relleno and my husband ordered one of the specials which was 3 shrimp tacos with a ton of different sauces. Plus chips and guacamole of course. The chips that come with chips and salsa and the guacamole appear to be home made and are delicious. The guacamole we had was so good, the avocado just have been perfectly ripe. It also came with no other filler items, just pure avocado and seasonings. I only wish it was a bigger portion! My tacos (one al pastor and another carnitas) were good. I like it spicy and I wish it came with a side of pickled jalapeños - I ended using a lot of the habanero hot sauce at the table. The chile relleno was delicious for me, the batter was just right. I've had others that just tasted too oily and this did not. My husband tacos looked amazing and he said they were as good as they looked. So all in all, we were happy that we stopped in and would do so again, next time to have some margaritas! read more

Hopefully it was just an "off" day for our server. 1. After 20 or so minutes after placing our order, she returned to us and said "I know I took your order, but I just can't find your ticket". So we gave her our order again. We knew at that moment our order had never been given to the kitchen. Which meant more waiting while tables seated after us next to our table received their food before us. 2. Not attentive at all. Refill of drinks was VERY slow. 3. Can be friendlier. At first the loud music was really loud. There was no air conditioning and it was hot as in a sauna. Maybe that is why everyone ordered drinks. Aha, good strategy on their part.
