**vegetarian review** Reservations recommended! This place is along highway 1 so gorgeous backdrop. There are many vegetarian options and pretty much everything was delicious. We sat outside which was a little cold. Good service overall and everything was really delicious- a little pricey but not bad. Recommend.

    Fried fish and falafel

This is a cute local eatery with a very vegetarian friendly menu. We got the Fried Fish and falafel entrees. They really excel at sauces, including the green sauce (Zhoug) and red sauce (harissa) that came with the falafel. The homemade tartar sauce with fresh herbs was also amazing. I really regret forgetting to take pictures of the daily special baked items (chicken mole hand pie and giant chocolate chip cookie), which were the best items we got. The cookie was truly one of the best I've had anywhere, which ample chocolate bits inside, a crispy texture on the rim and chewy texture inside, and just the right amount of sea salt sprinkled on top. We tried to get another hand pie to take with us, but they were all sold out (by 12:30)!

    Oysters - delicious!

The food is amazing! It's our first time in Elk and I am so happy we stopped here. The space was comfortable and nice. The staff were friendly and attentive. They had a great wine selection from local places and beyond. The food was out of the world. We had a few different items from the menu and you can tell how much care and thought were put into each one. Every element of the dish came together to create an amazing meal. Highly recommend.

The back room is very casual - it was "seat yourself" so get here early if you want to snag a table by the window(s). The food was mixed - started with one of the specials: "Red & Gold Beet Salad" @ $17 - it was beautiful, but the white truffle vinaigrette was flavorless so the salad was bland. Tried another special: "Steak Diane" @ $40 - ordered medium-rare and it was way undercooked. Couldn't bring myself to eat it. The Grilled Rib Eye was good - was also on the rare side but husband doesn't mind. It was a treat to have some live music (Kendall Dean) - she was super. Servers were friendly. Was nice, but wasn't impressed with the room, and just bummed the meat wasn't cooked to order.

Previously we've walked through the restaurant to check it out but haven't eaten there...it always looked too "hotel-y" as far as an appealing vibe yet the views, of course, are lovely. And we were locals wanting to support our friend and the restaurant. Our server was sweet and attentive. I ordered a Grey Goose over ice with a twist....now at most bars, even in urban cities, that is not a martini, yet I was charged $14, which is the usual price for a mixed cocktail. Unfortunately, "with a twist" (lemon) came back with a lime twist and a lime slice. Boo. My burger ordered "medium" came back medium-rare to rare. Mind you, the place was not busy at all. The meat was of good quality which I appreciated, but still..it wasn't anywhere close to "medium". You can have fries or salad. $20. My partner's dish was pesto pasta with chicken....and it was swimming in oil. Cubed chicken...sadly the dish was mediocre with a hefty price of $35. The atmosphere is staid...somewhat empty on a week night. As mentioned, we went to support our musician friend....perhaps it's a bit more fun in the summer. And sunsets would be fabulous.

The place is lively, the vibes are great, and the service attentive- however, the food is another story. We started out with a michelada and a sangria - both were decent. Next ordered the bean dip that came with a beet hummus and a black bean dip plus bread to eat it with. The dips were just ok flavor wise, but the bread that it came with was burnt, overly salty and just not enjoyable. We were hungry and hoping this was just the wrong item to order. So we ordered the buffalo wings that took FOREVER to come out and it's probably because they were busy overcooking them- super dry chicken meat and the most unpalatable potato wedges that I have been served. Several pieces looked rotten and they were completely drenched in oil. No crisp, overcooked- disgusting. Paid $70 + tip and left hungry. Unfortunately, once we left there no other food places were open. Won't be back.

I also had the Caesar salad with chicken. You can tell a great Caesar by the quality of the dressing. It was thick and creamy and coats each piece of Romaine lettuce nicely. I have no doubt the croutons were homemade. Love places that give lemon wedges with the salad. Everything I ate was delicious. The service from the staff was also excellent. I have been staying away from sweets since January so skipped the baked goods altogether. I will come back next time I'm in town.

From the very beginning of the meal, there was a clear sense of precision, elegance, and intention. The opening presentation was stunning, filled with an assortment of beautifully composed small bites featuring oyster, mushroom, sea bream, and a variety of other seasonal ingredients. Each bite felt delicate yet purposeful, showcasing both technical refinement and remarkable balance. One of the most memorable dishes of the evening was the bluefin tuna moriawase paired with strawberries. Normally, fruit in savory dishes tends to feel distracting or overly sweet to me, but the execution here was exceptional. The chefs managed to create a harmony between sweetness, tartness, acidity, and umami that elevated the tuna rather than overshadowing it. It was a dish that felt thoughtful, restrained, and incredibly well composed. The consistency throughout the progression of the menu was equally impressive. Course after course arrived with meticulous presentation and a strong sense of identity. Every dish felt polished and intentional, balancing visual artistry with flavors that were equally compelling. There was never a moment where the meal lost momentum, and the pacing allowed each course to feel distinct while still contributing to a cohesive experience. That said, there was one course that completely missed the mark for our group. The milk and honey dessert, which resembled a sponge cake topped with a whipped goat cheese foam, was overwhelmingly pungent and difficult to approach as a dessert course. The intensity of the goat cheese dominated every other component, to the point where it felt less like a composed dessert and more like being punched by a goat farm. Looking around the dining room, it seemed we were not alone in our reaction. Interestingly, when we mentioned that this was the only dish we did not enjoy, we were told, "if at least 1 out of 10 guests enjoy it, we consider it a win." It was certainly an unexpected response, especially given how polished and thoughtful the rest of the experience had been. Even with that misstep, the overall meal was exceptional. SingleThread succeeds in delivering a dining experience that feels elegant, immersive, and deeply personal. Between the artistry of the presentations, the balance of flavors, and the technical execution across the menu, it remains one of the most impressive three Michelin star experiences in California.

We had also tried Grossman's Noshery & Bar from the same restaurant group and were happy with the food there. I also heard good things about their other restaurants, so it should not have been a surprise that we were also impressed with the food here. Food is served tapas style and honestly, all the dishes sound appetizing. On this visit, we tried a few dishes. I wish I came with a more empty stomach to try more things. We ordered their crispy maitake mushrooms, steamed local black cod, and grilled house-made lamb sausage. Everything was delicious! The crispy maitake mushrooms came with a fish sauce which gave a nice brightening note to eat with fried food. Lemon was also fried with them to help cut any grease, so overall this dish did not feel oily or heavy. The steamed local black cod's ginger scallion oil surprisingly paired very well with the black truffle pesto. It had an earthy flavor profile that was brightened by the ginger. The cod was perfectly cooked and the mushrooms soaked up all of that saucy goodness. I loved this dish! The grilled house-made lamb sausage was Thai inspired and you could definitely taste the spices in the sausage. I actually would've liked more of the tamarind BBQ sauce and basil salad on this dish to help counter the lamb's spiciness a bit, but I enjoyed the dish. Staff was friendly and attentive. Food was excellent and came out quickly. The restaurant is housed in what looks like a historic house, so it was a very cozy environment. The kale and cabbage salad was innovative with a fermented garlic vinaigrette dressing with crispy kale (never had that before) and marcona almonds. Because they didn't have gluten free pizza crusts, got the asparagus, green garlic and speck pizza toppings over polenta, which came out sizzling hot in a pan. It probably was great as a pizza, but not great over polenta. The pizza's looked large, so instead of getting a pizza that would only be half eaten, ordered the radiatorre pasta with pork ragu as the second entree.
