For dinner we really enjoyed the fresh vegetables and the salad and was knocked off my feet with the homemade pasta dish. Wine And cocktail selection was very impressive. For breakfast, it was impossible to settle on just one thing, but I absolutely loved the Turkish eggs and we also had to try the seasonal peaches and ricotta toast, which was truly unforgettable. We came here last Sunday for a late breakfast and it did not disappoint! The view is really something to take in. And I like that the tables are not crammed in together. Cody, our server, was amazing! He was friendly, joyful, and helpful. We had the sandwich, the veggie omelette, and the Turkish eggs. All were really good. The bread they get from a local bakery was delicious. We also tried the yogurt bowl, which was great. And their coffee is also very good. Highly recommend for breakfast! (As a note, I was able to make a reservation on OpenTable for 11 am but their kitchen closes right around then. This place knocked my socks off. The view was to die for, the drinks were delicious and the food slapped. Come for the ambiance, stay for the food. We had the shishito peppers which were crunchy and 1 out of 10 were spicy (great lemon aioli), the hangar steak, the lamb lollipops (more like lulu kebab) and the mussels (perfectly toasted sourdough included). Our server, Cody, was excellent. He knew the food menu and drink menu well. He was attentive and so friendly! The bus person, Legend, was so friendly and attentive as well! The relaxed atmosphere was nice, the music apropos. The alcoholic drinks were good, although the black one was a bit bitter. The fancy non alcoholic drink was very nice and the Shirley Temple was organic and good. We went expecting two menus - and found they only had taco Tuesdays on board. We ordered the various salads and they were scrumptious! The tacos, while the taste combo was nice, were a bit dry and the tortillas were very closed to over cooked - not quite burned. I would skip the tacos and focus on the salads. The desserts were so delicious! And they brought the birthday gal one with a candle. For Valentine's Day, I made a reservation at Terra Mar Kitchen for myself and my husband. We had driven out to the coast to spend the long holiday weekend together. Terra Mar Kitchen was located at a hotel different than the one we were staying at so we had to drive over. I will say, parking is extremely limited and we ended up having to park off the shoulder of Highway One. It was a little nerve-racking, but turned out to be just fine. As for the restaurant, the interior is warm and inviting. It is open, but also somehow very intimate. I appreciated the fireplace and the small touches and attention to detail. From start to finish, the service and the food were phenomenal. Our table wasn't quite ready when we arrived for our reservation, but we enjoyed a beverage at the bar while we waited. Once our table was ready, we were promptly seated and given a chance to explore the menu. They had a special menu available since it was Valentine's Day so we decided to start with the mushroom bisque and the Dungeness crab raviolo. Both dishes had tremendous flavor and balance to them. The mushroom bisque was unlike any soup I had ever tried before. They also brought out some fresh hot bread with a delicious pomegranate and basil butter. For my meal, I decided to keep the mushroom train rolling and ordered the mushroom gnocchi. The gnocchi was perfectly pillowy soft and they provided plenty of wild mushrooms. The sauce was creamy and decadent. My husband ordered the duck breast and said it was one of the best he has ever had. After all of our food, regrettably, we did not have enough room for dessert, but the options they had available for Valentine's Day did sound quite amazing. So if you find yourself in the Albion area, looking for a lovely meal for a special occasion, I would definitely recommend Terra Mar Kitchen. read more

The upgrades done by Soul Community Planet (SCP) are phenomenal keeping the spirit of the original while fashioning it in their image. You just can't beat the view. Four of us had a lovely dinner and most dishes (soup, salads, app, beef, fish, desserts) were enjoyed. A few glitches -- sea beans advertised in an entree were missing and not acknowledged, hummus was minimal but raw veggies were plenty -- but overall a delightful meal. Appetizers are weak. Him drum could have done better grabbing something from the fridge. I came here with my family for the views behind the restaurant and they were absolutely stunning! The space inside was also spacious and you can still see the views if you sit close to the windows. These two things aside, everything else about Terra Mar was very lackluster if not disappointing. We came during happy hour and ordered a few small plates to share. They were mostly average in flavor but the mushroom toast was definitely skippable. Our favorites were the arugula salad and shishito peppers from their standard menu. The veggies across all our dishes were the standout. The biggest letdown was the pappardelle pasta. As soon as it was set in front of me, the sauce looked suspiciously watered down. Spoiler alert - it was. The pasta had absolutely no flavor and luckily we ordered the spinach artichoke dip because it became the new sauce for my pasta. In terms of service, it was good for the most part but I felt like the servers seemed new. When we asked about certain ingredients, they weren't really sure and also couldn't give drink recommendations. We gave feedback about the pasta at the end of our meal and they did seem to receive it well so hopefully that dish improves! read more

We went recently, a party of 5, and everyone was very happy with the food and the service. Very friendly and attentive servers, but also with a fun sense of humor. We were nervous about the service based on some reviews, but it seems they have worked out some kinks because everything was great. We were fans of the ALbion River Inn restaurant, but this new menu is very creative and interesting. Lots of fresh ingredients and many options for our vegetarian friend. We even ordered a vegetarian pasta just because it sounded good, and it was great, full of flavor. The pork shank also was great, as well as the mussels and other appetizer we ordered. The only so so part was the olive oil cake. I have made better myself, though the bursts of citrus on top were really good! Look forward to going back next time we're in Mendocino. read more

My wife and I were there for dinner the other night to celebrate our 55 year anniversary. Tony greeted us with a glass of champagne and very enjoyable conversation. This was the worst food I've ever had! I even gave 1 star because of the server being so nice that evening but food wise it deserves 0 star. I've had several lamb shanks and steak but I was VERY disappointed with this food. First of all, it was very confusing because the restaurant had two different names with completely different menus online which hasn't still been updated and it completely misled us. It was meant to be our special anniversary dinner so sadly it took away from what should have been a memorable evening. The lamb shank was completely bland and lacked flavour and freshness and was disappointed to be served without mash potatoes which I had highlighted to the waiter beforehand . The beef steak was ordered to be cooked a little bit more towards well done but it was more towards rare so my partner ended up not eating it. Again, it lacked depth of flavor and rich seasoning! The other issue also was there was hardly any appetizer in the menu and the Brussels sprouts with pork belly had hardly any pork belly. It felt more like it had fried bacon bits. The dessert in the end was ok but again lacked flavor. Overall was very unhappy with the food and will not recommend but thank you to the service and their great accommodation. read more

I don't go out of my way to write a bad review but this place needs some serious help and honest feedback. First of all the service is great. You feel for these kind souls serving up these plates of pure sadness. The drinks were good. But I had reasonable expectations about the food given I had eaten here before when it was a different restaurant with competently executed cuisine. But that's not what they do anymore. The highlights were a decent kale salad with nice white beans but there was too much acid in the dressing. The Brussels sprouts were nice with some confusing cranberries that didn't work. The low point was a tie between a short ribs that set you up for some serious flavor with an exotic name that tasted literally of nothing but yeast because it was encased in liquid raw bread and the fish entree which came with a warning. "Keep in mind it's served rare." Ok, I'm fine with a seared piece of raw fish but this was just a tepid sear and cold fish with no flavor surrounded by a pentagram of broccoli bits unceremoniously fallen on by spicy mayo that didn't have any spice. The people at the table next to us seemed to have the same issues with bland food because she was hammering away with pepper and salt which, luckily, the kitchen doesn't need. They were nice enough to comp us on the terrible bits as the servers are the only good thing going for this place now but someone do something about the food because there is no way they can stay afloat serving "reassuringly expensive" cardboard. Oh and the views are spectacular at sundown. Catch them from a road nearby. read more

Not sure why this place got five star reviews. It was ok. The view is really nice and it is a simple but inviting room. The service was good. When I asked the waiter for wine pairings for our entrees, he was not very conversant. The good news is he brought samples of a couple of wines for us to try and the white Pinot was a winner. The salad and the entrees (halibut for my husband which was over salted and roast chicken for me which was just unimaginative) were nothing to write home about. We passed on the dessert. Not sure why one reviewer said there wasn't much parking. They have a large parking lot and even with a full house there were empty spots. It seemed to be a popular "date night" spot with lots of young couples both in the dining room and the outdoor area where they served drinks only. read more

I'm not sure why there are several poor reviews of this newly opened restaurant. Maybe they did have some growing pains when initially opening, which is understandable. Or maybe locals didn't like the change in the long, existing management or format. I'm not sure but they are hitting their stride now. First off, you are not going to get a restaurant with a better view than Terra Mar in all of the Mendocino area and that includes every table and the bar/lounge/patio area. Second, you can't write a good review about a restaurant if the food and drinks are not outstanding because that is where everything starts. I am here to report, other that the salmon for the other couple we were with being slightly underdone (I'm sure she could have requested to throw it back in the pan for a bit but she chose not to) the food was just excellent! The scallops were seasoned and cooked perfectly. The rib eye as well with just the perfect amount of marbling. Pre-cutting is something I don't necessarily prefer with a ribeye but it actually worked, especially when sharing it with the rest of the table. The au gratin potatoes were a unique and wonderful surprise as you don't see potatoes prepared au gratin very often. They were also enjoyed by everyone as we decided to go a bit family style since we all ordered different plates. The lamb was good, especially with the yogurt with apricot sauce, although we probably would have preferred it lollipop style instead of grounded. The burrata with bread appetizer though was just tremendous and that could have been an entire meal in of itself. I would be remiss of course if I didn't mention the great service provided by Trevor and the rest of the wait staff. Trevor was very pleasant with a sly sense of humor and importantly was very efficient as the drinks and food all came out well timed and delivered. We spent the weekend at the Inn and were looking forward to our dinner here. When it was the Albion Inn I had great experiences. But unfortunately, this was not even close to being the case this time. After we were seated, we were greeted by the waiter who was polite and nice, I had brought a bottle of wine for the dinner, and we started with a cocktail. We had ordered two appetizers, the scallops and the Barrada to start with. Unfortunately, the scallops were the only good thing of the night. The Barada was dry and had no oil or seasoning to it and the bread served with it was cold. At that point, I asked the waiter if you could bring a couple glasses so I could pour the wine. It took me two other times of asking other people before I was brought the wine glasses, which in total took about 15 minutes. The waiter should've noticed that when I sat down that there were no wine glasses on the table. Then the main courses came. I ordered the black squid ink paella, and she ordered a vegetarian quinoa dish. When I looked at my dish, I could tell it was very dry. There was no liquid no sauce no nothing to the paella, but just clumps of rice with muscles stuck into the rice. Everything was overcooked, complete lack of seasoning and utterly and completely dry. Her dish was the same. It was completely dry. Had no sauce to it whatsoever and had zero flavor to it. We asked the waiter to come over and asked if we could get more sauce/broth for our dishes due to that they were dry. When he came back with the sauces/broth, her broth was dead cold and had zero flavor to it and mine for the paella was like a paste which didn't fit the paella. Her dish was so bad. We asked him to take it back and to bring us a simple Hummus appetizer. And even that was not very good the vegetables were dry. The hummus was bland and lack seasoning, but we went ahead and ate it because we were starving. The staff seemed to lack experience overall. The hostess and other staff looked extremely young, which I don't have a problem with, but you could tell they were totally inexperienced and lacked any type of oversight from management on site. It's very unfortunate to see how this restaurant has fallen when it was independently owned, and now has been taken over by a corporation and the service is completely fallen off, and the standards have completely gone away. Stopped in for dinner from SF - a group of twelve friends on May 3rd. Was so happy with the food, service and the best view on the coast! Shared grilled asparagus with romesco sauce, new potatoes with ramp aioli and the squid ink paella with my partner. Generous portions (not SF petite) and the paella was outstanding. Friends enjoyed the roasted chicken, ceviche tostadas, the Pacific catch (halibut) and almost all of the rest of the menu. Nothing disappointed. Finished with a terrific strawberry rhubarb cobbler. (One person got gluten free too.) They accommodated the bottles of wine we brought, which we supplemented with their great cocktail menu. The place is really nice. I asked for parmesean, hoping to get more flavor still boring. The hostess was our waitress; she was very attentive but never asked how I liked my meal when she took away my full plate of pasta.
