We pulled into the Stanford Inn closer to 6pm and the kids wanted to hit up the pool immediately. By the time we started to think of dinner, it was almost 8. There was no way we were getting the kids out of the pool and into dry clothes before 8 when most restaurants in this town closed. So we decided to try Raven Vegan restaurant to-go eaten poolside. We ordered what I considered safe choices for kids (Flatbread and Ravioli) and they were great! The vegan cheese worked, kids got their fill and I was a happy mom because they were eating their vegetables. My husband got the crabless crab cakes and while the texture was different, I tasted crab in there. The highlight for me was the Pad Thai. Pad Thai is on my list of last meals and I've tried it everywhere. This version did not disappoint. In fact, it was THE tastiest Pad Thai I've ever had. Sweet, tangy, crunchy, slurpy, and umami. I could eat it everyday. Our stay at the Stanford Inn came with breakfast here also. My kiddos split a savory crepe and pancakes. They ate it all up. My husband had the Ranchero which was delicious! Who knew tofu scramble was so tasty?! I had the Portebello Benedict which was equally delicious, though next time I'd skip the tomato. It made things extra soggy. I highly recommend giving this place a try. read more

Such a lovely place and it's hard to critique a vegan restaurant! But it is hit a miss. Some dishes don't warrant the price or live up to the atmosphere. Just okay. Also changing the lighting in the restaurant and maybe adding candlelight might help the ambience. It feels cold and not as romantic as it should be. I wanted so badly to love this place. The hostess was great, and most of the staff did a nice job. The bus boy was a bit awkward, but he's young, so I'll give him a pass. The Stanford Inn itself is beautiful, and Ravens Restaurant has a cozy, rustic look. The dining room is wrapped in windows, so everywhere you look there's a view. For context: I've been vegetarian for 30 years and vegan for 21. I came in excited, but the food just didn't deliver. Vegan food can be delicious and creative, but here it was mostly bland and disappointing. The flatbread with guacamole was fine but forgettable, and the bread was a bit burnt. The roasted veggies were nearly raw and flavorless--I couldn't finish them. The ravioli was overcooked and smothered in a lumpy, acidic marinara that tasted canned, all on top of plain kale. My beet salad was barely dressed and overly acidic. My husband ordered the strudel and left almost all of it. The one highlight? The mocktails--those were fruity and refreshing. It's amazing to me that a place with its own organic garden can't make better vegan food. For the price, I expected so much more. I hope they can add more creativity and flavor, because I'd love to give them another chance one day. read more

Cozy atmosphere, great staff and super dog friendly. I really wanted the food however to be good. I wanted to be inspired as I'm on my own plant based diet journey. I wanted my partner to like it as well as we both need to eat healthier. I didn't get any of that. While I read about and appreciated the passion of the founders starting an environmentally conscious restaurant, I didn't feel it in the food. Seeing all the food being grown on the farm made me think we'd get fresh ingredients. The salad felt neither fresh nor creative. The other dishes like the flatbread I could've made myself with whatever is left in my fridge. With each dish ~$20, something is going on and I hope the team figures it out fast. read more

Ravens Restaurant, housed in the Stanford Inn, is one of my favorite restaurants. The food is incredibly healthy, unlike a lot of the food you see in more traditional vegan restaurants that try to imitate meat dishes. It's also very, very delicious! My husband and I love going for breakfast, ordering the to-go lunches, and eating dinner at the restaurant. For us, we figured out our favorite dishes and that's what we order when we stay at The Stanford Inn. Here they are: Breakfast: herbed polenta with greens, and the pancakes - the scones and muffins are also fantastic. Lunch: Sammy's burrito wrap and the grilled vegetable sandwich - the dressing that comes on the side salad is so incredible, too. Dinner: We love the futomaki, the maple-tamari glazed tofu, the roasted beet salad, the flatbread, and the enchiladas. The braised vegetable side is fantastic, too. I've eaten at Ravens' 3 different times now, and all things considered (food, service, ambience), 5 stars is the right choice. Food quality is excellent, portions are generous and the staff are polite, kind and professional. And they go out of their way to provide organic and vegan food, which is unfortunately much much too rare today. My third experience was a to-go order, and while they did pack my marinated vegetables in the wrong container, and it leaked, soaking the bottom of my paper bag, nearly causing me to lose my entire dinner, I'm not going to knock them for this. Easy mistake, and the countless things different men and woman working there did for me take it above 5 stars. Thank you to all that served my wife and me. read more

We had breakfast here the other day. It was fabulous. Completely vegan and so fresh. Our dog was welcome in the dining area. There is a separate room if you don't want to have dogs around. This is the most amazing vegan restaurant. They have thought of everything! While visiting The Stanford Inn, we had breakfast twice and dinner twice and we don't want to leave. I had great expectations for Ravens when I went here on a recent trip to Mendocino. The food here was average albeit all vegan. We got a Thai curry that was decent yet felt Thai Idea in SF does a better curry. We got the enchiladas that were good yet wish their hot sauce was made in house. The vegan carrot cake with vegan ice cream for dessert was probably the best thing we ordered and was tasty. I have a feeling the chef that was here is no longer here yet must say the service was great. First of all, it's worth noting that for those that stick to a standard American diet, this food may be a departure. But that's what I love about it! You can tell the menu is created around health, longevity, balance, seasonality, and sustainability. My non-vegan husband and I found the food to be fresh, vibrant, flavorful, and very filling. It is so nutrient dense that I reached satiation with smaller portions than usual. Having said that, the portions are huge and we got 2+ meals out of both dinners we ordered. As we were staying at the inn, we also had 2 breakfasts that were super tasty and filling. I think your enjoyment of the food will depend on the type of food you are accustomed to eating. Six of us had dinner at Ravens. The setting is beautiful: a spacious dining room with large casement windows that open to the garden and the ocean beyond. Wood paneled walls with craftsman lighting surround. We had the Caesar salad, the beet salad, the ravioli entree, sea palm (kelp) & root vegetable strudel--all are vegan and delicious. I knew it was vegetarian and have had excellent food before from similar menus. I did not know it was vegan as well as veggie. The pad thai was far too sweet to my taste. More like american bbq sauce flavored. Our other dishes were off target as well. I should not have paid $150 for 2 dinners with 2 glasses of wine and been disappointed. Spent 3 days here celebrating our first wedding anniversary and the food was top notch. For breakfast, we tried the polenta, burrito, chilaquele, crepe, waffles, and the portobello benedict. Everything was flavorful & appetizing. We learned that a number of their ingredients are sourced from the garden on the property. Our favorites were the waffles and the polenta. The portobello benedict was so unique, but it was so good with the sauce. For our anniversary dinner, we tried the glazed tofu, pad thai, flatbread, and the carrot cake. The flavors were exquisite and served with so much love and care. The staff here is very kind, gentle, and helpful. The ambiance is relaxing, cozy, and very peaceful. This is the restaurant that is inside the hotel on a hill side near the ocean in Mendocino. The hotel is gorgeous during the day. At night during this time it's filled with Christmas charm and giant fireplaces in the lobby. The lobby also has an amazing array of books. Go past the lobby and there lies the restaurant. Tables are spilled out of the dining room. I wanted to love this place because I was ranted and raved too about it. What a great restaurant!! I mean, if you want steak it's not the spot for absolutely delicious and nutritious and soul feeding food that's made with love - this is the place. Stayed at the stanford inn and ate here multiple times for dinner and had one breakfast. All of the items me and my partner had were delcious. I enjoyed the food being both flavorful and creative. The cocktails were great, and the service was impecciable. I felt that the staff really paid attention to us and remembered us each meal we dined. We ordered take-out while we were in the area. It's so wonderful to see a vegan restaurant that offers wonderful, delicious meals. We got the breakfast crepe and breakfast benedict and both were good. I would say the crepe was a little thicker than I had anticipated and both dishes used the same "egg" mixture from tofu, tumeric etc. that was good, but not amazing. A few years ago pre-covid we ate in the restaurant for dinner and had a wonderful experience. The location is on the beautiful coastline overlooking the water. The atmosphere is comfortable and they allow dogs on their "patio" area which is cool. We really enjoyed our meal, which is why we got take-out when in the area during covid. So glad we were able to get a reservation and celebrate our anniversary at Ravens. The restaurant is in the Stafford Inn, Hidden behind lush spectacular gardens. When we made a reservation we were asked if we were vaccinated, tables were socially distant and they followed Covid proper protocol. We entered the hotel lobby, walked through the gift and book shop into the restaurant. Luciana, our waitress & the staff were all on point. The menu wasn't extensive but it did look interesting. We enjoyed the guacamole with chips, they were flavorful without being spicy. The portobello mushroom enchiladas were very satisfying and delicious. The chocolate mint torte was the perfect end to our anniversary dinner. Excited to have enjoyed California cuisine at Raven's. I asked about the recipes and if there is a cookbook and I was told that there was one in the gift shop. Beautiful views, exceptional service, and wonderfully delicious meals that leave you satisfied but not overstuffed and weighted down. The staff were genuinely kind, happy to serve us, and attentive! I felt very welcome. The meals aren't drenched in the oil, sugar and salt that most restaurants rely on for flavor. The menu included several creative, flavorful, healthy and cruelty-free options to choose from. I got the Kahlua Mushrooms and Coconut Rice. My mother got the Raven's Raviolis. We both enjoyed our meals thoroughly and guilt free! I appreciated that I felt satisfied and energetic following the meal. Not overstuffed and needing a nap. I found out that Ravens has a happy hour at the bar - so my husband and I came by after a long weekend of yard work. We were greeted by staff warmly and were told we could have a seat anywhere for the happy hour! Drinks were great - gin and tonic, beer, Rivino wine. Had to wait until the restaurant opened to order appetizers but guacamole was delicious. Could have done without the futomaki, but I'm glad we tried it. Ambiance was wonderful. Bar staff were great. Takes card. Easy parking. Wonderful grounds to explore. Price point was a little high for my liking but it was worth a splurge to explore my local businesses. Amazing staff, great food, and super cozy atmosphere. So my friend and I were a tad skeptical to go to a vegan restaurant, but we're so glad we did! It was raining and we found that Ravens allows dogs INSIDE, so it made our decision easy. The staff was incredibly welcoming and kind to our dogs, so even if the food had been bad, they already had our business. Turns out, vegan food is really good though!! We were pleasantly surprised and we will definitely return on our next girls trip outing to the Mendocino area. It's not every day that you come across a fancy vegan restaurant, especially with an ocean view. I notice a lot of negative reviewers complain about the price so let's address it now: the ocean view adds value beyond just the food and ambiance. I've been to plenty of mediocre seafood restaurants that charge outrageous prices because of an ocean view. I wouldn't come here every day but for a special occasion I thought it was worth it. I'm not vegan but my wife has severe dairy allergies so we often eat vegan when we eat out. The biggest thing I liked about Ravens was that their menu was built around real ingredients, namely vegetables. Too many vegan restaurants serve processed crap (Beyond, Impossible, Daiya etc) in an effort to imitate non-vegan foods. It was refreshing to see dishes highlighting and elevating actual plants. To start we shared a sushi roll which was decent sized and tasted fresh. It was listed as a special but if it's on the menu I'd recommend trying it. I ordered the mushroom polenta for dinner and I was pleasantly surprised how well the flavors worked together. The sundried tomatoes and port reduction gave depth to the polenta and the roasted mushrooms added needed texture. It came with a generous portion of Brussels sprouts which were tasty as well. My wife ordered the enchiladas and while they were ok I thought the polenta was better. They could have used a cheese sauce or something creamy. I did have a few things I thought they could improve on, especially to provide value for the high prices they charge. The bread was decent but cold,the dining room kind of echoed since there was no background music playing (as you'd expect at a fancy restaurant), and we had to ask to order drinks when our main course was brought out since I think our waiter forgot to ask. As far as the improvements for the food go, we got the strawberry shortcake and the cake seemed kind of doughy, not spongy as a shortcake should be. The homemade sparkling lemonade should have been called sparkling lemon juice as it lacked any of the sweetness commonly associated with lemonade. All in all, the positives outweighed the negatives and we had an enjoyable evening. If you (or your date) are vegan and looking to treat yourself then a trip to Ravens should be worth it! read more

This place used to be memorable for their food and now it's memorable for all the wrong reasons. We ate the New Year's Eve multi course dinner at 8 pm which ended up being almost 2 hours and 300 dollars for 2 people after a decent tip. Not only is the food so bland, under salted, and relatively unimaginative (unseasoned green beans?) - it also seemed like it was all prepared hours before and reheated or left to sit until lukewarm (room temperature berry cobbler?) one of the three entrees wasn't even available. The service was inconsistent and generally terrible. Plates basically dropped in front of us in a rush, silverware falling to the floor every time plates were picked up, and that was after we had been sitting for 15 minutes with no water given to us which led to an odd, awkward vibe. For the price and expectations this was so disappointing and not worth the money at all. If the service had been any better I might be able to give the food another chance. I still can't get over the whole experience with how highly esteemed this hotel and dining room supposedly is. My partner and I were baffled by this whole absurd experience. read more

The ambiance of this place is top notch. Surrounded by beautiful trees and well maintained pathways. But the food was down right disappointing. We tried the following: Futomaki- 2/5. The rice was too sticky , and it all felt lumpy when I took a bite. The wasabi had an off color. Maybe we are just spoiled with the options in Bay Area. Maple Tamari tofu - 4/5. This was the saving grace. Absolutely loved the sauce it came in. Flatbread - 2/5. It came with a lot of veggies that were over done and pesto base was cooked, so it didn't have a very appetizing color. Squash Ravioli - 3/5. This was a decent dish that came with marinara sauce. Red Thai curry - 4/5. The curry was really good. Wish it had little less veggies and more curry. The cauliflower was practically raw. It came with a side of rice. We wanted some more rice but as we were the last order , they ran out of it. But were kind enough to give some roasted potatoes to have with the curry. I'm a vegetarian that regularly eats vegan. Ravens is maybe the most underwhelming vegan food I've ever had. This is what I tried/shared: -Chips and guac: this was pretty good, the best thing I had at Ravens. Chips were a little darker/crunchier than I'd prefer. -Tomato salad: so so boring. -Ravioli: the sauce had no flavor, the ravioli really lacked flavor and was really mushy. It also had a pile of unseasoned, uncooked kale. I LOVE kale, but c'mon don't just put a pile of uncooked unseasoned kale on my plate. The entrees came out right after the apps which isn't ideal, but the service was friendly and nice (and clearly quick). The price is extremely high for the quality. Beautiful restaurant and inn. Breakfast is delicious and creative. I love the polenta with braised greens. Happy hour is fantastic with very reasonable prices. I had a phenomenal margarita with pineapple and jalapeño infused tequila made by Brad, the most excellent bartender. They also have a great gift shop area with outstanding wines, knitted hats and booties, lots of books and art. Whenever I need a good bottle of wine for a gift I head to The Stanford Inn. A very special place for both residents of the area and our many wonderful visitors. read more

Vegan breakfast is one of the most difficult foods to find on the planet Earth, which makes Ravens' Restaurant extremely exciting for me. The entire menu is vegan, which might be a taboo word for some, but it needn't be, as long as the food is good, right? And the food here is good! You'll find familiar sounding breakfast items like Chilaquiles, Benedicts, and Burritos, but without all the animal products. I ordered the Portobello Benedict, and my boyfriend ordered the Grilled Polenta alongside a few fresh squeezed orange juice mimosas. The Benedict was ab-so-lutely delicious! The hollandaise sauce was plentiful, and had a nice consistency. Although it could have been creamier, it was still very nicely executed. The Grilled Polenta dish was also a huge hit. It came with four large cakes, perfectly charred and flavorful. Ravens was a little challenging for us to find, since it is located in a hotel. Parking is located at the top of the hill, even though there is also parking at the bottom; and then the restaurant is through a few doors, by what I assume was the front desk. The signage was kind of ambiguous, but the journey was worthwhile. The restaurant itself is a bit more casual than I was expecting, and for the price tag of the meal, the ambiance seemed almost too basic. However, the service and food was excellent, and that's what's important after all. read more

Yikes. This dining experience was a disaster from the get go. All the more disappointing because now, more than ever, we need plant-based dining experiences to shine. The food was bland. Dishes were poorly conceived and executed, all of it being underseasoned and lacking depth. I am all for letting high-quality ingredients speak for themselves. This was not the case here -- it was a mishmash of flavors, delivered with an outdated presentation style that transported me to a "fancy" vegetarian restaurant circa 1989. Glazed tofu and flatbread were acceptable. If everything else was at that level this meal might have been tolerable. But sadly that was not the case. "Beet salad" was a bunch of romaine stalks with a few tiny slices of beets cowering in the corner of the plate, underdressed with an unbalanced balsamic vinaigrette. All the main entrees were so unenjoyable that none of us finished our meals. Servers were clearly overwhelmed -- most seemed inexperienced so I'm not dinging them for the service, that seems to be a reflection of our current employment market. They were earnest and affable and the service lead was great. There are many other places in Mendocino to get well-crafted vegetarian and vegan food. I would not got back until they secured a new chef who completely revamped the menu. read more
