They did a great job remodeling, although when you first walk. Up to the building it was not obvious to me to go upstairs. We came at 11 on a Saturday, we were the first ones to sit in the bar. We have been loyal patrons of this restaurant for over 30 years and were excited to bring our large family group, including children, after the recent remodel. While the new decor is nice, it became painfully clear that changing the atmosphere means little without competent management and staff who prioritize customer safety. Our expensive dinner was completely ruined by a loud, heated argument between a man and a woman seated near us. The situation rapidly escalated, drawing in other bar patrons with foul language and physical confrontation including a man pushing his wife out the door. The bartender tried to intervene and wanted to call the police, but the manager overruled him. One man at the center of the dispute stayed seated while chaos unfolded around him. When we notified the manager, who was sitting nearby watching the entire incident she refused to contact the police, dismissing it as a matter of "private property." We suspect this inaction was because the disruptive, intoxicated patrons were staying in the restaurant's on-site hotel rooms, with profits apparently taking priority over patron safety. I reminded her that restaurants have the right (and responsibility) to refuse service and remove disruptive guests. Servers ultimately had to escort the intoxicated patrons out, unnecessarily putting both staff and other customers at risk. Restaurants have a legal duty of care under premises liability laws to protect patrons from foreseeable harm, including violence from other customers. Failing to intervene in a clearly escalating situation involving intoxicated individuals, overruling calls for police assistance, and allowing threats to continue outside the premises raises serious safety and potential liability concerns especially in a family-friendly, high-end establishment. As we left, the ejected men were waiting just outside, openly planning what they would do to the other individual when he exited. We have never experienced anything like this in a restaurant charging premium prices, including $12 for a simple loaf of bread and butter. The food was good and our server worked hard, but the disturbing incident, the manager's complete lack of concern for customer safety, and the unsafe environment have cost this establishment our business after more than three decades of loyalty. read more

I was concerned that some of the reviews were pretty rough. Generally a great view means not great food, but that certainly isn't true at the wharf. I went hard on the appetizers- mussels steamer, calamari, and fresh oysters. All were fresh tasting and very well done. The oysters were sweet and a little larger, the calamari crisp, tender, and fully cooked. I liked the mussels, but they were a touch small and the sauce was actually great but there wasn't much. We closed out with the Caesar salad topped with the local rockfish done Cajun style, wow! We didn't want a bunch of extras and it let us try the grilled fish. Shockingly good salad (yes, rest of the US, you can do it!) and the fish was perfect. The view was spectacular, right out the harbor to the sea. The interior was huge. My only complaint was the person who took our reservation and then checked us in was abrupt and disinterested in customer service. Her manager seemed squarely on it and so set a great tone. Had dinner here with friends on July 3rd. We had a reservation but the restaurant was less than half filled. The service was OK but below expectations for a restaurant with these prices. We were seated at a table but only two bread plates and set ups for four people. We had to request additional setups. We ordered a bottle of wine but the server had no clue as to what was on the menu and we had to point it out to him. We ordered seafood, filet mignon and prime rib. The prime rib was cooked properly but lacked flavor. The filet was over cooked. The server never returned to check on the order which was disappointing. When the bill arrived, we were charged an additional $4 for a service charge for the back of the house. This was not disclosed either in signage at the door or on the menu and came as a surprise. In fact, under California law (SB 478 and SB 1524), restaurants can legally add mandatory service charges and automatic gratuities, but they must clearly and conspicuously disclose the exact amount and purpose of the fee on all menus, advertisements, and displays where food prices are listed. Overall this was a disappointing, expensive meal. Even though we have eaten here numerous times during our visits to Fort Bragg, sadly, we will not return to this restaurant. read more

New look, same menu(cook). Looks snazzy, quieter environment yet the seats are closer together (we could hear our neighbors as though we were dining together) too close. Waiter was nervous, and did a fine job. Was quick to attend, and got our drinks and soup right out to us. Had to wait for the meals, but that's ok. Had the rock cod sandwich with Caesar salad and one of us had the garlic clams and linguine. Loaded with clams (in their shells, not canned) and the flavor was great. A salad would have been a nice touch with it, but it was a good meal. The sandwiches were ok. The lettuce for it was wilted from being under a heat lamp. The sauce with it lacked flavor, we were expecting a chipotle spicier sauce. It appeared to be a thousand island tartar sauce creation. It was good though. The Caesar was doused in dressing, tasted good and the anchovies were a nice touch. Being a local, it would be nice to tell out of towners to dine there. Standard fare, prices about the same as anywhere else here. The view is the highlight, watching the boats, sea lions and other wildlife is well worth the price. read more

The Wharf has an amazing view especially on a sunny. The water and the foliage is gorgeous and I recommend walking around as much as possible, beautiful scenery. This place truly saved us on New Year's Eve. We got into Fort Bragg pretty late -- close to 9 PM -- and just wanted to find somewhere open where we could sit down, eat, and unwind before heading back to our hotel. Since it was New Year's Eve, we called ahead, and Gina answered the phone. She told us they were almost done serving food but said, "Come on over, I'm here," which immediately made us feel welcomed. When we arrived, we sat at the bar. It was quiet with a few people there, and the vibe was relaxed and comfortable. Being right on the water was such a nice way to end a long travel day. Rafael was behind the bar, and between the two of them, the service was warm, kind, and genuinely accommodating. I ordered the spicy chicken wings, which were really good, and Ray had the fish and chips, which he enjoyed. I had a double IPA (Pliny), and Ray had a Hefeweizen, which he liked a lot. What really stood out was learning that the wharf, our hotel (The Beachcomber), and several other spots around town are owned by the same people. It explains why the area feels so connected and welcoming -- very much a small, close-knit coastal town. We were able to eat, enjoy ourselves, and still get back to our hotel before midnight. Asked for a table by the window and the waitress rudely snapped " I can't guarantee anything, you get what's available". Geesh, can you be kinder and say I'll see what I can do" or if you don't mind waiting, we can clean some tables by the window." Not a great way to start. Prices are astronomical and the food just wasn't memorable. They add on fees/tips to your bill automatically but they don't tell you or have signs posted anywhere. We got seated and it took 20 minutes to see our server and get bread, then an additional 15 minutes to get our apps. For our main course it took over 45 minutes for just four people. This wait time would be normal if it was busy, it was not. It's a Thursday. More than half of the restaurant was empty. We could tell the food was super rushed because the bread we got with our chicken Alfredo was burnt and stale and our sauce with the steaks was over powered with garlic. When we went to pay, they had our card for 10 minutes before we went up and asked and then server we asked said "I don't have your card?". We arrived about 5:00pm and were promptly seated without reservations. The restaurant appears to have been redecorated recently. Our waiter was very pleasant and answered a couple of menu questions. We ordered chicken Marsala and filet mignon. Our orders came as requested, except for one misstep. My filet was ordered as medium and arrived as very rare. It was politely sent back and returned about 10 minutes later as more medium rare, but I could tolerate that. The veggies were well cooked with a bit of crunch to them and the serving of garlic mashed potatoes was very large. I added a bit of salt to everything (not my usual move). My husband's chicken Marsala was very tender, but it too needed salt. A small basket of locally baked sourdough bread with butter was brought to our table and was very good. For dessert we shared a vanilla crème brûlée, which was well prepared and quite tasty. The restaurant was a bit noisy but, was expected as there were several tables with children seated at them. When the waiter brought our bill out, he was quite apologetic about my steak, which he noted was not charged for. When I objected, he was emphatic that that wasn't how they usually serve filet mignon. We did note on the bill there was a small charge for kitchen tip. Though we don't often visit Ft Bragg, we would return. read more

My fiancé and I had one of the best meals here at The Wharf. We were in town for the 4th of July celebrating our anniversary. Of the three different restaurants we dined at over the weekend this was by far the best. We had the Crab Cakes, Halibut Fish and Chips, and the Clam Chowder Bread Bowl(cheesy garlic). Wasn't expecting the Clam Chowder to be out of this world good! Best I've ever had. Better than any I've had visiting all the coastal towns of CA. The Crab Cakes were good and I enjoyed the bed of greens and light dressing on top. Halibut is one of my favorites. This was very good as well. However I wasn't crazy about the breading. To each their own though. We love a good margarita so we tried their Blood Orange Margarita. So good! Sadly they used too much ice and we only got a few sips out of it. All in all it was a great meal, great wait staff, and will definitely return on our next trip up the coast. read more

We pretty much worked out of here, and Cassidy and Ashley were amazing the whole time. They gave us A+++ service, made us feel welcome, and really helped make the experience easy and enjoyable. Our mother used to live in Ft Bragg so we are familiar with Noyo Harbor and the Wharf restaurant. Happy it was open for business this week. We arrived around 4:30 or so and seated in the main dining room with a window seat. Our server offered us fresh bread and butter, (not would you like to order) which we were charged $3. Pretty sneaky. Ok, place was recently renovated so not a surprise. We ordered Halibut fish and chips. Menu said it came with a salad. We decided to share the dish and ordered a side salad as well. We did enjoy the Harbor view as we waited for our food. First off the temp of the fish was slightly above warm. They advertise the breading as "beer battered" then rolled in panko. There was nothing light and airy or flavorful about the breading, matter of fact there was no flavor at all. My sister equated the fish to being pulled out of the freezer and tossed into the fryer. The salad was an average salad, nothing memorable about the taste. We also realized there was no Chips to "Fish and chips". When we asked our server she said we didn't get "chips" because we had salad. That was not the description of the dish on the menu but I wasn't going to press the matter because We didn't need the extra tasteless calories. We sat by the window facing Noyo Harbor bridge and the river flowing out to the ocean, fantastic view, 5 stars. We ordered the cioppino, wild caught salmon and frutti de mare and all were great. Service is good. The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 was they added a mandatory "kitchen tip" which i think is nonsense. When i tip, whether 15, 18 or 20%, part of that is the overall indication of the food and service, not just the waiter. Tip should always be shared with the bus person, as well as the kitchen staff. To keep all the tips to the server and not shared is unfair, it's an indication of overall satisfaction. It made me consider taking off the total tip amount minus that "Kitchen tip". Fort Bragg local family. Took our family here to celebrate Father's Day. We had a reservation and were seated but it took 30 minutes for someone to take our drink orders. It was downhill from there. Hair in all our food they tried charging me for salad I never had. Mostly we were ignored when we tried to ask for help. At the end of the meal we voiced our concerns but only had the salad removed from our final bill. This used to be a good establishment. Lack of care towards customers means my family and I will not be going back. Be careful bc this place has a nice view but it's not worth the service. read more

This restaurant is under new ownership. Short : Good food, lovely view, reasonably priced. Long: We went in late November 25 for a birthday dinner to check it out. Entrance is through the bar which had a familiar odor of fish. Dining room did not smell fishy. Hostess could have made some friendly eye contact, smiled or greeted us, or been more like.... a hostess. We were efficiently escorted to our table by the window. The view from the second floor dining room has a lovely view of the Noyo river. We enjoyed the sunset time watching the last few boats returning as night fell. The dining room was sparkling with cheerful holiday lights. Random idistinquishable background music we tuned out as quickly as possible. (Restaurants don't seem to realize how this makes conversation much more difficult, especially with the older crowd. It's not music, just noise). Drink service was slow despite the bar and restaurant not being particularly busy. We were there at 4:30 a half hour after opening for dinner. Our food server was excellent. Caesar salad had house made dressing and was quite good.Unfortunately another food server apparently delivered my entree to another customer so my husbands meal came before mine. I enjoyed the delicious bread while I waited. The vegetarian option of eggplant and portobello was also delicious and there were a few other tempting non meat options on the menu. The creme brulee was good but came with sort of bland tube shaped cardboard looking cookies which took away from the dish. The place filled up with more locals which is another recommendation. Having a 'date night' with my grandsons(7&11). We were greeted with a smile and where would you like to sit? We said, by a window! And no questions or (those are reserved) we were seated by the window with the striking harbor view. Seals, otters , boats and birds a plenty to entertain. The wait staff were very busy, yet very attentive to our needs. Our meals arrived and they were delicious(the waiter didn't bat an eye at my prawn allergy and offered substitutions). Clams and linguini for the boys, fruita de mare for me. Hot and fresh and yummy bread also served. We split a warm crème brûlée and ice cream with hot fudge. The sun had set, a marine layer fog settled in and it was time to leave. Prices like most local higher priced restaurants, the experience and food made it worth it. read more
