I only live 20 minutes away from the winery, but I visit frequently due to its spectacular view. It might have the best view on the Mendocino Coast. My wife and I always bring our out-of-town guests here with a picnic lunch. I typically order a bottle of red wine to go with our lunch or snack. Definitely worth the visit for the beautiful views. Personally, I wasn't a fan of their wine, but we did end up purchasing a bottle of their signature "It's My Fault" in the white to drink while we were there. I've had better $10 wines, but that's just my opinion. They do sell some charcuterie items in their store which we did purchase. There was packaging from the items we purchased along with plates and napkins that were handed to us. It was odd there no trash cans on site. We had to dispose of our trash in the small restroom trash they had. I'd say visit for the view, do a tasting for $15 (light on the pours though) and stay to soak it all in. read more

Delicious wines in one of the most beautiful locations on the coast. There are many areas on the property where you can sit and enjoy the stunning views. Just a 15-20 min drive north of Ft. Bragg, perfect for a picnic. And at the right times of year, for whale watching. Dad's Daily Red, Tempranillo, Barbera and Charbono are my favorites of their reds. For whites i recommend the Semillon and It's My Fault white. Sally, Marcus and all the staff are friendly and welcoming. And very informative if you wish to take a deep dive into wine discussions. The views were amazing and our chat with Sarah the owne,r as we were leaving, and her dog was the highlight! Saw a video of Pacific Star on instagram and knew I had to stop here while on vacation in the area. I mean a winery overlooking the ocean, how could I resist?!?! Truly this was such a beautiful space! There were Adirondack chairs spaced out throughout the property, all set up to overlook the ocean and the beautiful views. There was also an area right next to the tasting room with a bunch of picnic tables, so lots of seating to choose from. You could get wine by the bottle, glass, or as a tasting. I opted for the wine tasting since wine tasting is a top hobby of mine. Unfortunately I was not a fan of any of the wines here. There wasn't much flavor variation to them and they tasted on the pruney side. I think this is a cool place to go to experience the property, but not to go to expect great wines. Tasting also isn't the best option if you want to explore the property. You get each wine one at a time and pick them up right outside of the tasting room, so you really couldn't venture that far. If you want to enjoy walking around and take in the beauty as much as you can without having to get up constantly, a bottle or glass is the way to go. Though the winery's address is in Fort Bragg, it is quite a ways up highway 1 before you get here from the center of Fort Bragg. The road is also pretty windy and narrow in a few spots, so plan to drink responsibly. read more

No warm smiles, no "Hey, how's your day going?" just a very dry, business-as-usual vibe. That would've been fine if it was just a "one-off," but we couldn't help but notice that the energy shifted when older white customers came up to the counter. The smiles got a little bigger, the conversations a little warmer. Now, I'm not saying it was intentional, but when you're on the receiving end of it, you notice. And honestly, it left a bit of a bad taste that didn't have anything to do with the wine. We get it, maybe it was a busy day, maybe it wasn't on purpose, but the energy wasn't equal for everyone, and that's something that stands out. If the service matched the beauty of the views, this could be a solid 4 star spot. But sadly, we felt like we were just another transaction, and that's a shame. Now, let's talk views. We drove 7+ hours from the Central Valley to the northern coast for the weekend and this was one of our must-stop destinations. Annie took great care of us, was warm and friendly, and really appreciated the wine maker's vision. The wine was good, but not my favorite style. The red blend I got a glass of started out tasting a little thin but really opened up and ended up being pretty nice. We arrived at the open so it may have just needed a little more time. Of course the views of the pacific ocean are great and what most folks write about Pacific Star Winery. I had a conversation with the wine maker regarding her wines. She mentioned that (and I think I got this correctly) her wines are a well balance in taste especially the blends, but not the thick syrupy type that some people like (oops that's me), but very drinkable and more suited for a picnic type of wine. Well, we just happen to bring a picnic with us. So we purchased a bottle of Sea Red and we throughly enjoyed it with our picnic. Yes I recommend visiting Pacific Star Winery. read more

This was a great experience. My fiancé and I both aren't wine people (but would love to be LOL). This was our first time going wine tasting, and we did mention that to them. It was a rainy and cloudy day on the Mendocino coast, so we decided to take a drive up the coast. Several times we thought about turning around, but curiosity about what was around the next corner kept us going. We came around the next corner and here sat Pacific Star Winery, along Hwy 1, sitting alone. We are always up for a winery and wine tasting, so we made our way down to the winery, they had the wine tasting set up outside, and there is an inside little store and counter. A downpour of rain had just passed and the owners or staff were wiping everything down for the guests. We stepped up to the table and on this day they were pouring 5 wines, and the tasting was $14, which is extremely reasonable. It was fairly busy which was surprising for middle of the week. My only wish is that either the owners or staff, I'm not sure who they were, would have talked about their wines more. They really just poured and left you to it, a tad disappointing. We enjoyed all of the wines we tasted, two were favorites and we purchased the bottles. Bottle prices vary from $28 to $45. Some guests were just buying a bottle finding tables and enjoying a lovely picnic with their wine. The views from this winery are unbelievable. We sat at a table and had cheese and crackers and then walked down to the cliffs where they have fencing up and lots of Adirondack chairs and wine barrels to sit and enjoy your wine with stunning ocean and coastal views. read more

This winery is located right on the coast! When visiting Fort Bragg, it is well worth the scenic drive (about 12 miles north) to sip wine while sitting on a coastal bluff. There are plenty of chairs, so you can settle into one of the most beautiful spots, sip your wine and relax. Also, it is interesting to note that there is a fault that runs directly under the winery, and connects to the San Andreas fault system 12 miles out to sea. To commemorate the discovery of the Pacific Star Fault, they make two blends (one white, one red) which they have named "It's My Fault". We opted for the tasting (5 wines for $12). We then selected our favorite and bought a bottle which we took down to the bluff, settled into the Adirondack chairs, and relaxed into the ocean view. We had a wonderful time. Sally, the owner, was very friendly, and spent some time showing us a map of places we should visit as we made our way up north on our vacation. Some notes: The winery is open Thurs-Sun 12:00 - 5:00. Dogs are not allowed in the wine tasting area (inside or out) and are not allowed on the bluffs. A huge thanks to yelp wife Jackie F.-G. for suggesting we stop here on our recent trip up the coast! The view was stunning and the wine was wonderful as well, and at a price point comparable to tasting in the Lodi or El Dorado regions. I can't recommend a stop here more if you ever find yourself in the area. It's a short drive up Highway 1 from Fort Bragg. A short, beautiful drive with beaches along the way that will tempt you to fit extra stops in your plans. As for the wine offered during tasting on the day we visited, my favorites were the Dad's Daily Red (Petite Sirah, Charbono, Carignane blend), the Barbera, and the Carignane. Our tasting hostess was really laidback yet knowledgeable, and we had the option of tasting at the counter or wandering back and forth between tastes. After concluding the tasting menu, we bought a bottle of the Dad's Daily and enjoyed it in the comfy Adirondacks facing the waves. Those were some glorious hours enjoying the sea air. I had a great time here! If you're in a North Coast area, it's definitely worth a stop. The drive is a short one from Mendocino and Fort Bragg, but scenic. There's tons of space to social distance and great for pictures. Lovely little area near the barn with tons of picnic tables. Hubs and I packed a picnic and camped out near the cliff where there were also Adirondack chairs. Spent a few hours checking out the views and bird watching. We made a special stop to this winery because of the location (right off the coast). They are opened Thursday to Sunday from noon to 5pm. We enjoyed the scenery on the drive up. They have a large area towards the coast for plenty of social distancing. There are chairs and picnic tables for you to bring your own picnic lunch or snacks while listening to the ocean waves. They have 6 tastings for $10, but the tasting are chosen by the staff (menu items with green marking). They are a mix of white and red. You can also order bottles and snacks. The tasting room is outside and the staff are friendly and knowledgeable about the wine, but we aren't wine connoisseurs. We thought the wine was fine, but we mostly came for the atmosphere. They do have a bathroom inside you can use and also a small shop where you can buy candles in wine bottle (they smell divine: I especially like the banana bread scented one), and other souvenirs. This place is stunning. you can't beat wine tasting on a beautiful cliffside. I think we paid less than $30 for 2 wine tastings, which came with 4 or 5 wines. Was super excited to come here during our Mendocino/Ft Bragg trip and it was totally worth visiting this property. They have a lot of land with a variety of seating - all with a gorgeous, gorgeous view of the ocean. It is worth visiting here because it's a great atmosphere to be able to enjoy the coast while hanging out. A tasting was I believe $12, which for the amount of time you spend enjoying there is a good deal. I will say you're not going here for the wine. Personally, none of the wines stood out to us and I wouldn't purchase. But everyone has their own tastes and likes, so no hate! This is an embarrassing display of bickering and "nuh-uhs". It's like watching children defend pushing their siblings out of a chair. A Yelp page and advertising is only as good as the company that manages it and what I see is the inability to control online behaviors and zero care for the customer's money and/or experience. It's laid out in a black-and-white infantile exclamation of "I know you are but what am I..." That's sad because the location is beautiful and the vendors they use for their shop are true artisans. Sally was dismissive and rude to me personally and I really don't care why. Marcus was fun and funny but unless they decide to use their skills where they are best served (Sally back of house and Marcus guest facing) I will not be back.
