Lula was our first tasting in Anderson Valley and it blew us away. The vibe is super relaxed. You can bring food and have a picnic right by the vineyard, with rolling hills as your backdrop. Kim was such a fun conversationalist and kept the wine flowing, and every single pour was DELICIOUS. He also recommended we walk up the hill after tasting to check out the views, and it was totally worth it. The scenery was stunning and it made for the perfect little stroll. Visited Lula again recently and found it a bit wanting. Perhaps it was the lack of energy; it was a Monday afternoon and we were the only 2 people there. I've been to Lula previously and enjoyed it, but that was with a larger group and on a Friday late afternoon, so the energy was better. It was more festive vs. the transactional feeling of my recent visit. That said, my friend did like the wine and bought a couple bottles, and I bought 4 bottles the previous trip. For a vineyard & winemaker in Anderson Valley, it was interesting that we both thought the zin was the best tasting. And we both generally prefer pinot noirs -- go figure. If you're in the "Deep End" of Anderson Valley, it warrants a wine tasting stop, but I wouldn't consider it a destination visit. The best Pinot and overall tasting experience in Anderson Valley, imo, is Goldeneye, but you'll certainly pay more for both the wine and the tasting. Lula does comp the tasting fee if you purchase bottles of wine. read more

Good wine. Great atmosphere! We were staying in Mendocino and chose one winery to visit and this was it. A good choice. The wine's really good here. We ended up buying a couple bottles. Kim and the owner took really good care of us and was accommodating to our dogs. You're welcome to walk part of the vineyard, but I would check with the staff first. Beautiful grounds. Actually it was a little rainy that day so we didn't really walk the vineyard but that would have been cool. I might not have the most sophisticated wine palette but I know what I like. And it seems that I like Lula Cellars. My friend and I stopped in here for a wine tasting yesterday and were warmly welcomed. We had made an appointment and arrived on time but as it happened, three other parties who did not have appointments arrived just after us and were seated. That made it busy and certainly improved the vibe of this small space. Kim was our tasting host and he's just super. Friendly, knowledgeable about the vineyard and the wines and just a great person to spend time with. We also got to meet the vintner Ken and learn the history of Lula, where it came from, what's coming soon and where this great wine is headed. And while my tastes might be the most sophisticated, it turned out that my favorite of the tasting was the Pinot that was the most expensive and priced at $71. Uh, yeah. So we bought two less expensive wines for $25 or so and they were both quite excellent. We enjoyed the Sauvignon Blanc that evening with a seafood dinner in Noyo Harbor. Lula does not have food on site, so they are dog friendly. The tasting room is adjacent to their acres of vineyards, so there are some great photo opportunities. We dropped by for a tasting and really enjoyed their wines. We're not big consumers of whites and rosés, but both the dry-style Gewürztraminer and the rosé of Pinot Noir were quite refreshing. We loved their Pinots Noirs and took home several bottles. What really made the visit was the woman working the tasting room. She gave a warm greeting, provided location information about the grapes from the valley and how that affects the character of the wine, and made suggestions as to other wineries we may enjoy. The customer experience here was in sharp contrast to a pretentious place farther to the south. read more

Great vibes and super dog friendly. You'll get chatted up by one or three of the old timers working the outdoor tasting room - don't hesitate to 'revisit' your favorite wines. My favorite were the Pinots - which makes sense given that Anderson valley produces the most Pinot in the world. Nearby- you'll find a pond and pretty walking trail to enjoy with your honey and or doggie. Lula Cellars is a quaint vineyard located at the "deep end" of Anderson Valley. They produce mainly Pinot Noirs and, during our visit, offered an estate Gewurtzraminer which was more on the dry side. It was nice. The tastings are $10 and the pours are generous. Shout out to Anastasia for being hospitable. Definitely worth considering when visiting the valley. read more

What a nice time! Kim took care of us and made sure we were well informed about the wines we were tasting. Very laid back and low key, the very epitome of the Anderson Valley. We have been members of Navarro for years, but we joined Lula this year because we prefer their Pinot Noir. I'm not saying the Navarro is lacking, but the Lula, to our tastes is the one we want aging in our cellar. If that wasn't enough, their outstanding 2022 Gewurztraminer is world class as well (and a great deal too). We are looking forward to visiting Lula again soon in the fall! read more

Lula Cellars is so much FUN! Came here after attending the Anderson Valley Pinot Noir Festival and had an absolute BLAST! Hats off the Dan and Carol! They were such great hosts and kept us entertained until closing time. What you'll receive here is true personable service. Their estate is set right on the edge of Navarro and overlooks the serene Mendocino Valley. The tasting room is quaint and cozy; a total breath of fresh air from the larger wineries nearby. Not that I don't love larger wineries, but it's always enjoyable to embark on a more intimate experience. Lula is the land of the Pinot. Award winning Pinot Noirs line their tasting menu, as they should. Their Pinot Noirs are scrumptious! Best of all, they've got a Pinot to suit just about anyone. From your fruit forward and jammy varieties to your more earthy and spicy types, Lula's Pinots show so much range and versatility. I personally enjoyed all of them. Don't count their other wine offerings out! They also make a tasty Gewürztraminer, Rosé of Pinot, and a mean Guntly Red Blend which I had to purchase because I enjoyed it so much. For the quality of the wine that you'll receive, their bottle prices are extremely reasonable. This tasting room has such a relaxed and casual demeanor. You can come here knowing that you'll truly be able to enjoy yourself and all that Lula has to offer. Lula has been one of my favorite Anderson Valley wineries to visit, and I'm excited to visit them again during my next trip out to Mendocino. read more

It was our last stop of our wine tour on Sunday and it was definitely one of those "they saved the best for last" I'm so upset that I didn't get the name of the gentleman that helped us but he was an absolute delight. His energy was very uplifting and he was so funny. I couldn't stop laughing. He educated us very well on their wines as well. The wine was so good. I've been coming to Mendo for years and only discovered this place yesterday. What an absolute gem of a place! We were welcomed like family even before we walked into the tasting room. Kim was our guide and he was incredibly fun and informative. ALL the wines were spectacular and we left with 6 bottles. The property is beautiful and Kim invited us to walk around and take in the epic view of Anderson Valley. He also treated our dogs like they were his guests. Very nice place for Pinot Noirs. We went here on a whim yesterday and only had to wait about 5-10 mins to get a table for a tasting. Even after that the employees were apologizing for how long the wait was. Tastings were super cheap too(I think $10/person?). I did notice that their Pinot's seemed just a little tad more acidic than I am used to normally. Maybe it has something to do with the area's soil? I only mention it because I tasted another Pinot at a earlier winery and it too seemed a little more acidic. Still very tasty though. I was happy to see that all the staff was wearing masks. The people who served us were pretty funny too. Overall we had a really good time and an added plus is that they have a friendly dog called Kepler! read more

Honestly, Lula: you had me at Guntly. I admit, it is a weird word, but here at Lula Cellars "Guntly" is spoken with reverence. It is a nonvintage blend of Mendocino County Zinfandel and Pinot Noir, with a smoky, earthy core that practically begs to be served alongside grilled meat of some sort, like pork, bison, or beef. Food friendly and slurpable at the same time. It's like the best of both worlds. One precious acre of Gewürztraminer is also used to make around 90 cases of crisp, floral, and flavorful white wine. And when it comes to gold-medal winning Mendocino County wine, the Costa and Peterson Vineyard Pinot Noirs here are drop dead gorgeous. You will want to make love to these wines and Yelp into the stratosphere like a wolf howling at the full moon. Dogs are very much loved here at Lula, so if you've got one, bring a canine companion as +1 when you taste. $10 fee for 6 wines, waived with purchase. Two flight options, all reds or mixed. Unless you are a total Pinot Noir geek, go with the mixed flight if this is a first visit. Note: 2016 vintage and older were crafted by Lula's original winemaker, a true Anderson Valley character whose wines are rich and rewarding, especially those sourced from small, dry-farmed vineyards in the nearby town of Comptche, just North of Anderson Valley, with even cooler, foggier mornings that allow for longer hang times on the vine and later harvests in October, which allow the Pinot Noir grapes to bubble over with alluring aromatics reminiscent of black cherry, rose petal, foraged mushroom, and wild plum. Since 2017, a New Zealand winemaker who splits his time between the Southern hemisphere and Anderson Valley has been in charge, and his wines are different. Delicious, but different. We had such a good time here!! My two friends and I all work in wine so I can honestly say we've tasted at A LOT of places. Lula has solid wines and a great vibe but what made the tasting stand out was Ray. She was a wonderful wine educator - well informed, timely and graceful in service and charming. She left us time to enjoy our conversation but also kept our glasses filled. Her choice of bonus pours was spot on. We had some extra time to kill before our next appointment and she suggested we go see the coots on the pond and sit in the Adirondack chairs. What a gorgeous view! My boyfriend and I had a wonderful time at Lula Cellars. Kevlar came and greeted us as soon as we got out of the car. It was a very windy, cold day and they had the fire ready to warm us up a bit. We did 6 tastings and wow. I am impressed with the talent. My favorites were the Peterson, Anderson Valley and Costa Pinot Noirs. My boyfriend enjoyed the Guntly Red. Dan was super kind, informative and I enjoyed his character and conversation. He kept us entertained and laughing. I wish I lived closer so I can come by more often. It was recommended that we visit Lula for a tasting after visiting another nearby winery and we were so grateful for the recommendation! Under normal circumstances, Lula operates a smaller indoor tasting room. However, with covid, they tented a portion of their back patio to provide socially-distanced outdoor seating with gorgeous views of their vineyards. We were told they plan to keep this set up year round, now! They do a great job of providing hand sanitizer, space between clients, and incredible wines! Dan was our wine educator and could not have been more delightful. He taught us about Lula's wines but also provided lovely comedic relief with his jokes, stories, and general friendliness. The owner, Ken, was also there and just as lovely.
