Stayed at Little River Inn last October, but just now getting to a review. All I can really say is…read morethe place was worth every cent and then some. The rooms are quaint but spacious enough. But the real appeal is the views. Just unbelievably gorgeous. It's just one of those things you must do and see in person. We stayed in one of the rooms with the long shared balcony. My initial concern was privacy but it was a non-issue. Everyone was polite and friendly. No noise issues or anything. We spent most of our room time outside enjoying the views and just soaking all of the beauty in. The Little River Inn is just down the road from Mendocino, and a short 10-15 minute drive to Fort Bragg. Perfect location for what we were doing that weekend. Staff was wonderful. The real surprise of the trip was the restaurant. I normally shy away from hotel restaurants, as I prefer to sample the local cuisine. However, we decided to give it a try our first night for Dinner. I was delicious and quite popular with the locals as well. I'll be doing a separate review for the restaurant, as I strongly recommend having at least one meal there. We ended up having two...lol. Just a great stay and a definite revisit when we get the time again. If I could give the place more stars I would.

Nice porch with comfy chairs to enjoy the garden and partial ocean view. Primarily garden so choose adjacent room if you want full view. The inn has only one outdoor uncovered table if you want to eat at the restaurant. We ordered our breakfast to be delivered and it was very nicely packed and tasty. Also, loved their bloody mary kit . Very nice ! Our patio was a nice spot to enjoy our meal with our dog. Overall,a nice stay, good location but would have loved a later check out. Its 10AM and that is a bit rushed when in vacation!

Farm-to-table magic on California's North Coast…read more One of our favorite stops and one we still daydream about was Pennyroyal Farm. The cheeses alone are worth the drive, especially their Laychee which happened to be studded with fresh blueberries when we visited. If you try only one thing, make it the seasonal Laychee. It's unforgettable. We also devoured their ultra creamy deviled eggs, sipped wine, and ordered a cheese board because, honestly, cheese was the only thing on our minds. Boonville sits about 115 miles north of San Francisco, tucked among vineyards, redwoods, and small-town farmland. This whole stretch feels like a little slice of heaven. Stepping onto the property, it reminded me of a European farmstead. What makes Pennyroyal so special is that everything you taste comes directly from this land: goats, sheep, gardens, vineyards, cheese, wine - all feeding into each other on the same 66-acre ecosystem. Nothing is outsourced. They're open daily, and you can grab a table overlooking the vineyards or wander over to meet the animals and the people behind your very happy stomach. If you're exploring California's North Coast, this place belongs on your list.

Great for kids, even the younger kids won't complain about the walk and the animals are exciting for them. Following the farm tour was the wine and cheese tasting, which was excellent of course. There are many great wineries in this area and the wine was good, but the specialty is on the cheese. The cheese was amazing! They offer a limited food menu (think heavy snacks or appetizers rather than a full meal) and the food was also excellent. Plenty of space for the kids to run around. At my next visit I'm bringing an ice cooler so that we can take cheese to-go for home enjoyment. Overall this is a delightful and kid-friendly wine and cheese tasting and I look forward to my next visit.

But the…read moremost delicious is following the winding road through Anderson Valley wine region which is replete with wineries and eateries along the entire stretch of this Northern California appellation. And towards the northern extreme of the valley are the spectacular vineyards of Roederer Estates and the home of some of the best sparkling wines in Northern California. Situated atop a hill with a commanding view of the vineyards, valley, and surrounding mountains, Roederer has a beautifully modern tasting room and new outdoor patio with abundant seating and umbrellas for shade. On the day we visited it was 81F outside in the sun, but thanks to the natural air conditioning of a Pacific breeze from the coast, it was super comfortable on the deck. Roederer has everything from traditional tastings of various house wines (mixed vintages, estate reserve, and flights) to wines by the glass to bottles if you are in the mood. Prices vary by vintage, but begin around $18 for a glass and go up. Tastings begin at $35. Bottles begin at $40. Members of wine clubs receive an approximate 20% discount on bottles and tastings. In addition to wines, a limited but nicely curated selection of nibbles are available (think Marcona almonds, olives, prosciutto and cheeses, and duck rillettes, but if you're feeling indulgent they also offer a variety of Tzar Nikolai caviar options that can break the bank). We ordered the duck rillettes which were yummy, albeit a very small portion and not house made. Also, they did not come with crackers, which were an additional charge. This was our only gripe, because do people just eat the rillettes straight out of the jar with a knife?!? But that aside, we loved our sparkling wine selection (a bottle of Brut rosé) and the casual luxury of enjoying our bottle on the outside patio during a gorgeous summer afternoon. Service was quick, attentive, knowledgeable, courteous and friendly, but not hovering or overbearing. Perfect balance. If you want to experience the best of Anderson Valley in Mendocino County, be sure not to miss this gem of a winery.

A poorly managed, lazy business hiding behind a beautiful landscape…read more My wife and I were in Mendocino for a family trip/mini honeymoon. Friday afternoon, we decided to venture out toward Philo to explore the vineyards in the area and stop by for some wine tastings. Roederer caught our eye off Hwy 128, so our group of 4 decided to go for a quick glass to enjoy the beautiful view. Enticed by the large door and expansive patio, we walked in to order our wines around 4:25pm. A taller long haired man greeted us with "Hey, sorry we're at full capacity" was our greeting. No hello, no welcome to our estate. I let him know we just stopped by for a glass and were not there for a full tasting. Uninterested, he just repeated that they were at capacity and finished for the day. Their hours state that they close at 5, and rejecting 1 glass of wine at 30 minutes before closing seems absurd and rather lazy to me. Let the photos speak for themselves...half of the interior tables being available, along with half the exterior being available meant full capacity. There are an abundance of family run and established vineyards all throughout the Anderson valley. DO NOT waste your time coming to Roederer Estate.
