Now, for starters, when I think of a room "suite" you're expecting pretty nice amenities. You definitely want to feel like you have the comforts of home at your disposal. This room is listed as having. . . White Water Ocean Views King Featherbed Wood-burning Fireplace Mini Fridge Private Bath Tub and Shower So, let's get into it..... Firstly, I found it very easy to reserve the room via the app from Booking.com It's one of my preferred travel reservation methods, and the Inn Keeper John later reached out to confirm payment details and to charge the room just before my stay. That part was very simple. We arrived on Sat 14th around 3 ish in the afternoon to be greeted by one of the hosts named Diane. She is very welcoming and friendly. Gave us a little tour, asked if we needed anything, showed us to our room, etc. Diane gets 10 stars for her individual role within the Bed and Breakfast. Mind you, December is VERY cold in Mendocino. Some roads can be flooded. The ocean waves are angry but beautiful. It's windy and rainy. It's cold!! But I am dating a winter snow bear so she likes to feel the chill while retreating to a comfortable room. For this review, I am going to simplify it with a pros/cons list of how the experience was for 2 days, 2 nights. PROS --- Diane makes homemade cookies daily. Delicious! Delicious homemade breakfast served daily outside the room (picture) Wonderful upstairs views of the ocean tides Best homemade pesto sauce I have ever had during breakfast A very large plush king sized bed with like 12 pillows A mini fridge which is appreciated Strong fast wifi connection A seating area to eat cookies and interact with other guests Walking distance to the town of Mendocino A large enough room where we didn't directly hear too much noise above or below Up front parking right by the Inn You have a set of keys to come and go at all hours from the front locking door to your room. CONS --- Featherbed, you say? It is so plush, that you have zero support for joints. For those of us in our 40s, we went from a relaxing massage in town, to waking up with back and joint pain from it being too feathery. No support. Tub and Shower? Sure. They even have a cute lavender sleep bath salt. What could be the problem. How about that the tub only filled up with barely lukewarm water. My breath has more heat. The tub and shower wasn't cold, but it definitely did not warm us. My partner had to use the tea kettle to boil water and pour me a bath. The lamp on one side of the bed kept flickering and wouldn't turn on. We had one lamp across the room by the sofa. One small lamp on the other side of the bed. One very wobbly lamp on the table by the bay view window. And the bathroom lights. The room is dark and dreary. Oh, let's not forget the wood-burning Fireplace. I have never been so anxiety filled near a fireplace. The fireplace is the only place to really have warmth. The room itself is large and drafty so it will get cold. There's a tiny space heater behind the couch but that does nothing. You could touch it with your hand. The fireplace chain screen that is there as a safety measure so you don't have fiery embers flinging out on the carpet or worse, on you, doesn't close all the way! It is very old and outdated. Downright safety hazard! I was cold every day, and every night. I couldn't get heat from the tub, shower, fireplace, space heater or anything! Obviously, we cuddled and had the bed blankets, but then your back hurts from the pillow softness. The couch is more comfortable. I am not even going out of my way to find negativity with the stay. This is just how it went! For the price of this suite, my experience was very disappointing! I have been cold ever since! We would not stay again.

You'll learn about the fish and wildlife, and see seals, etc. The electric boat is very quiet and Captain Dan is a pleasant, low key kind of guy. He takes up to 6 people on the boat during Covid times. We have eaten and driven around the other side of the harbor, but really enjoyed seeing the working fishing boats on this side. We learned exactly what commercial fishing life entails. Highly recommended! Kristin answers the phone when you call and book. Refreshing to talk to a human.

When I called I reached a voicemail inbox and began to leave a message, but in the middle of it someone picked up - no greeting or other info, just a very brusque "hello?" Out of simple curiosity I asked if they ever do whale watching trips at other times of year, but was abruptly interrupted by the person shouting, "why doesn't anyone ever look at the website, we don't do that here!!" I was so taken aback that I apologized and hung up. The tour genuinely looks like it would be lovely and I was interested in what Captain Dan would be able to tell us about! But I'm not about to risk continuing to being treated so rudely on a special occasion.

When my now husband proposed to me in November of 2012 in Mendocino, I knew I wanted to come back to Mendocino for the wedding but looking for a venue was the hardest part. Mendocino itself is the most beautiful and charming place I've been and making a decision to get married in Mendocino was an easy one. After searching high and low I came across Spring Ranch and was immediately fascinated with its history, charm and location. My husband and I must have drove by here dozen of times, all I knew was it looks like a victorian house that someone lives in, I never really noticed the barn. Spring Ranch consists of the following: a 5,500 sq. ft Grand Victorian House that can sleeps up to 13-15 guests. The Guest Loft (aka Honeymoon Loft) Can sleep 2, perfect for a honeymoon suite with plenty of space and beautiful views of the ocean bluff. Finally, the Wedding Barn....both the interior and exterior of the wedding barn is rustic and stunning, I truly love everything about it. I reached out to the owners Laura and Derek and they are the nicest people ever. They live in SF but they have people in Mendocino that takes care of Spring Ranch. My husband and I made a trip from Orange County to Mendocino to see the Barn through our wedding planner Mendocino Weddings (Mendocino Wedding is one of Spring Ranch's preferred vendor). We fell in love with the Barn and booked our wedding here when I got back. The contract is a little long but nothing confusing...it covers all the basics and provides rules of the house/Barn and loft. Although the pricetag was a bit expensive but the package came with 3 night's accommodation for the House, The Honeymoon Loft and the Barn. Although, compared to other venues this package was extremely valuable. We used fthe barn for our rehearsal dinner and reception on the day of the wedding. The package was all-inclusive and Laura and Derek allowed us to bring in our own Alcohol, food and basicially everything else. We did not have to use their "preferred" vendor. In Mendocino, there are not a whole lot of choices when it comes to vendors and such. The Honeymoon loft was nice, perfect for 2 and our little dog. Don't expect modern hotel style though, everything here is rustic and full of character. We got married in November and it was cold, there is no central heating. The main house has individual heaters that guests can use. The Barn has no heat but we were lucky enough Laura and Derek installed central lighting in the Barn prior to our wedding so we did not have to rent power box. I was very clear on my vision for the Barn, I wanted to keep the rustic feel but add romantic elements to it. Our DJ was kind enough to add up-lighting inside the barn which made the place look amazing. Overall, I had the wedding of my dreams and Spring Ranch had much to do with it. I would recommend this place to any bride to be who wants something different....this was truly an experience my husband and I will never forget. Laura and Derek overall were great to work with, they were extremely accommodating and overall great people. If I can do it all over again, I would still book Spring Ranch for my wedding in a heartbeat.

So I again email the innkeeper and he responded quick and said he would have the manager of the day call me tomorrow. So I get a call from one of the owners who didn't seem shocked and was semi apologetic. This cabin was over $400 a night and I would expect a clean and safe room. I asked for a discount and was offered a discount on a future stay and I said I would not be going there again and all he said was "okay and bye" and hung up. So some other thing's wrong in this cabin, slider door to patio, lock broken so the lock is a stick. Shower head is about to come off the wall. I will post pictures of that. The entire property is very unkempt, spider webs and weeds everywhere. Not worth the price we paid.

You can't beat that price for any room that's actually in the tiny town of Mendocino. There's no breakfast served at the cottages but you're only a short walk from downtown Mendocino which has plenty of coffee, food options, and great art galleries. Mendocino is adorable, and has a completely relaxed vibe. The cottages are on the very west end of town so only a 1/4 mile walk down the road to Mendocino Headlands State Park with breathtaking scenery. The room was very clean, quirky and cozy decorations, and plenty of firewood is provided. The three cottages are on the same property, kind of an extended backyard, but the incredible garden and ample space made it seem very private. The proprietor was nice but not overly involved in our stay or our business. She lives on site but was pretty much absent. This is a great place to stay in Mendocino and the price is unbeatable.
