I'm leaving this review in the hopes that it actually gets to someone who can make some changes in staffing and customer service. I attempted to make a reservation for the harbor tour with Captain Dan for my anniversary. When I called I reached a voicemail inbox and began to leave a message, but in the middle of it someone picked up - no greeting or other info, just a very brusque "hello?" Out of simple curiosity I asked if they ever do whale watching trips at other times of year, but was abruptly interrupted by the person shouting, "why doesn't anyone ever look at the website, we don't do that here!!" I was so taken aback that I apologized and hung up. The tour genuinely looks like it would be lovely and I was interested in what Captain Dan would be able to tell us about! But I'm not about to risk continuing to being treated so rudely on a special occasion. read more

My fiancé and I went on a private Noyo Harbor Tour on Monday. This was such a great experience. We actually booked this tour online back in May (we're on our annual anniversary vacation and we plan very very far ahead). Booking online was super easy, we were sent a confirmation email with a number to call to confirm our tour time. Since the availability of the tour in really dependent on the tide, we did call back a couple weeks ahead to confirm and pay for the tour. Kristin helped us though the process and made it really easy and painless. Captain Dan was super nice. I appreciate all the stories and knowledge he shared about the harbor, who does what in each boat, the surrounding properties, his time in Alaska, and more. Such great conversations. We got pretty lucky because there was a couple boats selling tuna and cleaning fish so there was a lot of sea lions and seals around waiting for fish. We were on an electric boat, so it was really quiet and didn't scare away the marine life and we were able to get up close. We got to see lots of beautiful birds, he had even told us which ones to watch because they dive down and catch fish. And we did see one catch a fish! It was so cool. Such an amazing experience we'd go again the next time we're out in the area. I definitely recommend! read more

Not sure how they have 5 stars. Never been, was coming to celebrate 15 yrs w hubby. Called them in the morning, left a message for reservation. Going down my check list w a quick minute to spare later in the afternoon, called again. And lady answers. RUFE BEYOND BELIEF! WOULD NEVER SPEND MY MONEY! So upset, i cancelled the whole trip to that area!!' No hello no intro to business when answering. "Yes, i know you called. I work another job ok. Im not ignoring you. There are no reservations right now. Only have call once." All the other moms in our carpool heard too and was like "good to know!!!" Not sure who Captain Dan is w/great reviews; however, your phone lady ruined it for our business with you and spread of word to stay clear. Rather go with someone kind any day! read more

While staying in Mendocino for four days to celebrate a BIG birthday ;), we stumbled across a flyer for Noyo Harbor Tours at our hotel. My husband called and made reservations that same day (lucky for us the tides were in). Kristin was kind enough to fit us in and told us to meet Captain Dan at the dock. We were worried at first because we paid over the phone prior to our arrival. But these are good people. This was, without hesitation, the best part of our trip. Captain Dan was absolutely wonderful. His boat was a clean, warm Duffy boat and he was kind, informative and most of all, patient with ALL of our questions (yes, there were a lot). You see, he is a seasoned fisherman with interesting stories and immense knowledge of the harbor and it's inhabitants (human, flora and fauna). On our trip we came across, river otters, seals and sea lions. It was amazing! Skip the train and come visit Captain Dan. Highly recommend. read more

What a great little boat tour- on a great little boat- the Noyo Star. It is clean, quiet, and comfortable. Captain Dan was terrific with our restless toddler as he told us about the Noyo River, area history, wildlife, and even a few restaurant recommendations. We departed at 4:30pm, which was dependent on the tide charts- so call ahead to determine what times are available. The ramp down to the dock is pretty steep- so folks with limited mobility may have problems. You certainly want to wear shoes with a good grip. read more

We took a delightful, relaxing one hour plus harbor tour this past week with Captain Dan. (Masks are required and there's hand sanitizer, etc.) Dan knows everything about the harbor, including the boats, businesses, and people. You'll learn about the fish and wildlife, and see seals, etc. The electric boat is very quiet and Captain Dan is a pleasant, low key kind of guy. He takes up to 6 people on the boat during Covid times. We have eaten and driven around the other side of the harbor, but really enjoyed seeing the working fishing boats on this side. We learned exactly what commercial fishing life entails. Highly recommended! Kristin answers the phone when you call and book. Refreshing to talk to a human. read more

Kathy and I stayed at the Noyo Harbor Inn at the end of July. During our stay we noticed a pretty boat cruising around quietly on the harbor. We wanted to do that! I looked up the boat online and tried to book the tour through their website, impossible! Save yourself the trouble, just call them and you will talk to Captain Dan's lovely daughter. We booked for the following day and were treated to a 90 minute tour of the river, around the harbor, and under the bridge. Captain Dan is a fountain of knowledge about Noyo Harbor, the wildlife, fishing and the fishing boats. read more

Five stars for Dan and his tour! A last minute call, while we ate lunch in Noyo Harbor, and Dan had us on the water within an hour or so. He was patient with my not so thrilled three year old, when we boarded. And explained fishing, boats, etc... as he drove us though the river and harbor. He made sure my daughter got to see many sea lions on our tour too! Lastly, the boat is immaculate and rather toasty with the windows up. It was very relaxing! read more

Thank you Captain Dan. We had such a wonderful up the Noyo River to the bridge. He not only told us about fishing and the fishing industry at Noyo Harbor, he also told us about the people. From the commercial fishermen and women to the seasonal residents and those who live on there boats year round. And we saw seals, sea lions. And seagulls competing for what fishers discarded after cleaning the fish. We saw one seal catch a salmon and the seagull snitch a loose piece. We were lucky to have Captain Dan to ourselves. This is a great way to see Noyo Harbor and a little bit of the river. You will learn about the boats and some local history. Captain Dan is awesome. He points out interesting sights, tells you about local fishing, and even has great restaurant tips. You will most likely see many different types of wildlife. His electric boat is perfect, it hardly makes a noise and you don't have any engine fumes. Overall, a very relaxing and informative way to spend an hour or so.
