What an amazing day, we went for a ride on the train through the redwoods. Just Magical! We booked the Skunk Train from Fort Bragg up Pudding Creek to Glen Blair Junction. My little one was thrilled to be in the train. Got to learn lots of history about the railroad that was there, and learn about redwood trees, had an amazing experience. The timing of our ride was at 11am morning and there was no rush at all, it took 20min to reach the pudding creek Glen Blair Junction and their was 45min halt on that beautiful spot in between the redwood trees where you can go for small trails, eat chat and take a-lot of pictures etc, there after it takes another 20min to return. The train had clean restrooms and a small snack bar. The staffs were very friendly. This is a train ride of a lifetime! .

It was a fun ride, we went there with kids , we did the rail bikes. It was Very scenic. We did some stops and had guide give us informative talk. We had a pretty easy ride, the cars have pedal e-bike assist. At the end of the track there was a nice stop with bathrooms and a beautiful pavilion for a lunch break. We did end up doing a quick loop hike over there before heading back. I just wish the trip would be longer. If you are in the area - do it.

We had such a great time at the Mendocino Skunk Train! It's perfect for a date or for bringing the kids. The whole area has a really relaxed, fun atmosphere. We especially loved the concession cart and the bar/refreshment area with the outdoor games--it made it easy to hang out and enjoy the space before the ride. We walked around the property and brought a pre-packed sandwich lunch, which worked out perfectly. Overall it was a really enjoyable experience and a great way to spend a day in Mendocino.

This trip was beautiful yet disappointing at the same time. We spent so much money for this tour to ride on the tracks for maybe 35 minutes total and then sit for over an hour at the train stop to wait for the train to arrive and then off board and then onboard folks again. It was complete money grab to purchase alcohol or food while we waited too. I didnt even bother with the gift shop as I had already spent enough at this place. Educationally-speaking, there were two stops where they talked about the redwoods and then how the train got its name that lasted for about five minutes each, and that was it. The tour guide in-training lacked confidence and charisma, which seemed like he wasn't passionate about his job. The main tour guide had a very dynamic personality, so the contrast was undeniable.

I booked two Pudding Creek Express tickets as part of my celebration of my 1-Year Wedding Anniversary with my wife. We caught the 11am trip in Fort Bragg on a Wednesday and it was a pretty good turn out of people attending. Checki-in was easy and all spirits were high. We left on time and headed into the Redwoods. It was only a seven mile journey I think, but it was great taking in the scenery of the beauty the Redwoods present. We sat down at first when the journey began, but then headed to an open trailer where you can enjoy the sights outside. We arrived at the Glen Blair Junction and got to spend time there for 45 minutes..They had games like corn hole, Jenga, and Connect Four you could play, a bar you can buy drinks or snacks, or you can walk some of the trails and explore. We just took it all in. Everyone we interacted with were great and the Skunk Train staff made the trip very educational and fun at the same time. Learning the history of the Skunk Train was fascinating. But being able to walk into the Redwoods and witness how amazing nature works in that region with my wife is a memory I won't forget. After our 45 minutes, we headed back to the Fort Bragg station and got some souvenirs before heading to lunch. The both of us really enjoyed this experience and hope to do it again. Maybe in Willits next time

We did the hike to Pudding creek with lunch and train ride back. Our tour guide Scott was fantastic. Scott was extremely knowledgeable and explained all sorts of things we didn't know. For example redwoods don't die when cut down. Jordan a Skunk Train Conductor Scott's wife also came on our hike along with their cutie pie daughter Meadow. After learning and seeing so much on the hike I felt bad for the people who just rode the train or rail bikes. We rode in the open air car behind the engine and that was fun. The steam from the engine blasts tree branches sending leaves and drops of steam all over lol. The only disappointment for me was the lack of giant redwoods. Overall this was a fun experience.

We got digital vouchers on Groupon and went on a Monday. The train ride was cool. Upon arriving at the midpoint, we only got to walk around for 40mins. Too short. Better go on a weekend, and early so you have more time to walk around. Definitely arrive 30-40 mins early to check in and get your paper tickets. Overall we want to go back and on a weekend.

Nice activity for a date trip or with kids too. The timing is short if you don't plan to stay and wait for another train to take you back though. Nice are for hanging out eat and enjoy nature. Some nice hikes around there too.

The Skunk Train is a must visit in Northern California and especially in Mendocino County! It's worth the trip alone just to enjoy this experience!  The train ride is a 7 mile scenic drive that departs from the depot in downtown Fort Bragg and takes you along Pudding Creek to Glen Blair Junction. You're surrounded by beautiful redwoods throughout the ride. Glen Blair Junction has a bar, couple large fire pits, adirondack chairs, games and live music on the weekends in the evening. They also have a nice 1 mile hike along the hill. The view from the top is absolutely beautiful during sunset! This experience is a perfect spot for a date night or night out with friends or family. Pro Tip: Be sure to bring layers as it can get a bit chilly on the ride and during the evenings too. You can also bring your own food to enjoy!

Fun Experience, But Poor Handling of Dog Accommodations My husband and I booked a rail bike experience a week in advance on the Pudding Creek route for a Thursday afternoon, and we planned to bring our dog along. About 45 minutes before our scheduled time, a representative called to ask about our dog's breed. After learning he was on the smaller side, they asked if we would consider holding him in a "backpack" instead of using the crate we had already reserved, because another customer with a larger dog needed one. Before agreeing, we arrived early to see if the backpack would work--only to discover it was actually a cooler. Our dog was clearly too big to fit comfortably, and despite being told they could cut holes in the bag for his feet and tail, we declined and asked to keep our original reservation. What was especially frustrating was how the situation was handled. At times, it felt like we were being gaslit--as if this was a normal or reasonable alternative, when it clearly wasn't. We had planned ahead, reserved appropriately for our dog, and still felt pressured to compromise his comfort and safety. That said, the rail bike experience itself was awesome! Our dog really enjoyed the trailer crate--it gave him shade and comfort throughout the ride. Even if a proper dog backpack had been available, I wouldn't recommend holding your dog during the ride, as it would likely take away from the experience. What disappointed me most was the lack of care shown for our dog's well-being. It felt like the priority shifted to accommodating more customers rather than honoring our reservation and ensuring a safe, comfortable experience. Suggesting that our dog be placed in what was essentially a backpack cooler didn't sit right with me. I do hope this is something they learn from, because overall, this is still a place I would recommend--and one I'd consider revisiting for a different experience

Great experience! We did the shorter ride but we definitely want to do the longer ride since the carts have a motor that helps a lot and you don't have to do all of the work. Even with the rain, we enjoyed everything. We got the lunch meal since it was our first time but you don't really need it. We thought it was required. If you do the shorter ride, you can definitely pass on the meals since they stop somewhere where they have snacks or you can bring your own food. The lunch meals were okay but we did keep the bags. We definitely want to come back during the summer and do the longer ride. Our guides were great. I would recommend taking the end cart since you won't have anyone behind and you can go at your own speed.

This place was such an adventure! Way better than what we thought it would be. We saw the train in passing on other Northern California trips. I looked up info and we made the 10 hr drive. Well worth it. What an experience. My 8.5 yr old son had a blast as well as our Dalmatian who met another Dalmatian coincidentally on our excursion. We bought popcorn and a popcorn memento bucket en route in our rail car which came with a refill and was yummy. They also sell wine, soda and other items. From the gift shop at the train stop to the actual 90 minute train ride thru the Redwoods it was quite magical start to finish.

Glen Blair Bar wait? One review mentions having to show up hours in advance of the train departure…

You only need to be at the station 15 minutes before the train leaves to get your tickets. The first train leaves at 6:30 to The Glen and returns about 7:15pm. It leaves the station around 7:30pm. The next set of trains are essentially shuttles and… Read more

Is the route still shortened due to some tunnel collapse?

Yes, the tunnel is still closed.

In late December (winter) with light rain, will I still enjoy the experience?

It's a covered train with seats. You don't have to get out.

For the rail bikes, is therea 1-person option?

The bikes seat two, but one person can ride alone.

How is the seating? Is there leg room? I'm tall.

Yes, I'm 6"1 and it was very comfortable and roomy. And the seat slides back and forth (though I don't recall if I had it in the farthest back position). Also, with the battery, the peddling is very minimal.

For people who have been on both trains, which ride is better as for as taking pictures? Also which one offers a longer ride? Thanks!

I attempted to make a reservation for the harbor tour with Captain Dan for my anniversary. When I called I reached a voicemail inbox and began to leave a message, but in the middle of it someone picked up - no greeting or other info, just a very brusque "hello?" Out of simple curiosity I asked if they ever do whale watching trips at other times of year, but was abruptly interrupted by the person shouting, "why doesn't anyone ever look at the website, we don't do that here!!" I was so taken aback that I apologized and hung up. The tour genuinely looks like it would be lovely and I was interested in what Captain Dan would be able to tell us about! Kristin helped us though the process and made it really easy and painless. Captain Dan was super nice. I appreciate all the stories and knowledge he shared about the harbor, who does what in each boat, the surrounding properties, his time in Alaska, and more. Such great conversations. We got pretty lucky because there was a couple boats selling tuna and cleaning fish so there was a lot of sea lions and seals around waiting for fish. We were on an electric boat, so it was really quiet and didn't scare away the marine life and we were able to get up close. We got to see lots of beautiful birds, he had even told us which ones to watch because they dive down and catch fish. And we did see one catch a fish! It was so cool. Such an amazing experience we'd go again the next time we're out in the area. I definitely recommend!

We were quickly greeted by Russ and were pleased to find out that my friend and I were the only ones who made a reservation for the day so it made our first horse back riding experience that much better! Russ was informative and shared previous experiences from past riders to help us feel more at ease for our first time. You do have the option to wear a helmet. You can bring your own, use one of theirs or opt out. Regardless of choice you will have to sign a waiver. Once the waiver was complete we picked a helmet and a horse. I chose Walter my friend chose, Zez. Russ demonstrated how to properly get on and off the horses as well as how to halt and guide the horse while riding. This was so helpful to us! There is a stool to help you on and off the horse especially for shorties (like myself). We chose the ocean ride. To get there we crossed the road and went into the woods for a bit and took the same way back. Russ was patient with the both of us and helped to make this experience unforgettable. Walter was patient with me and I was so grateful to have gotten to ride him! Zez has a sassy personality of her own and fit very well with my friend lol! Some of the guests had actually gotten into their cars to drive themselves because they didn't think anyone was coming by the time the shuttle showed up.
